Don't have anything to throw in - just stopping by to check in. Been doing great lately - how it continues. Going to have some recon surgery sometime in late April. Looking forward to not having to look at a breast that has a huge dimple in it and a full size smaller than the other one.
VR - Glad to hear you are feeling better. The side effects from anesthestia can be a bitch. I can see where the fire is burning brighter.
Think I will venture down to the good fire and warm myself for a little while - anyone want to join me? Maybe we will find some marshmallows and a comfy chair down there.

SAS...Haven't gotten up to the discussion about the plumbing yet. First have to get back the biopsy results. Right now, the gyno wants me to think more about what I want to do with endocrine therapy. My situation is being complicated by the fact that, last month, I stopped the Lupron injections. It seems Lupron probably discouraged my uterine lining from thickening more and the polyps from growing, while the Tamoxifen was trying to make things grow. If the biopsy is negative, I would like to consider watchful waiting for the next six months while still staying on the Tamoxifen. They're also watching my estrogen levels to see if I'm "truly" menopausal...There's an outside chance that I might have to resume the Lupron. Aside from the polyps, which by the way, I had been diagnosed with BEFORE I started this journey, I've done okay on the Tamoxifen and Lupron. So, I'm just not in that big of a hurry to start making changes.
Tomorrow is my six month radiology appointment and hopefully, if all is well, aside from an occasional blood test...maybe I won't have to see ANY doctors for a few months.
Also thinking that maybe while I'm taking one of my daily walks, I might have an epiphany and then I will KNOW what to do.... Now THAT would be something....
Know what's going into the bonfire today...All this THINKING about what to do TOMORROW! I'm tired of thinking about what I need to do next....

VR - It has been 14 months since I finished rads and am now looking at recon surgery sometime in April. I need to have my GP do the surgical clearance and I had my MO move my mammo from June to March 20. My PS wants to have the mammo prior to surgery just to make sure it is clean and to have a baseline. I will have the Latissimus Dorsi flap done - no implant needed.
I want to throw in those who could have told me I had recon options after lumpectomy. In as much as I loved my surgeon, all he kept saying was my breast looked good. Well, from his standpoint it does. The scar is minimal but the entire bottom side is gone and I was left with this huge dimple and a nipple that points down and to the left. PS will also fix the nipple and get it back where it is supposed to be. Actually kind of excited about this. Once I get the mammo and clearance, I will call the PS to get scheduled - he said to give him at least 4 weeks lead time. In my area, there are only 2 PSs and he comes very highly recommended. From what I have heard, the other one has had many problems with implants and outcomes so of course I stayed away from him.

Jo...I'm excited for you! Back in the day, I had emergency surgery and they opened me up down the middle...I looked like a split pig! Got a terrible staph infection afterwards and then they had to put a drain in and heal it from the inside out that left me with a second belly button. I walked around like that for years...Then, one day, my daughter, who couldn't have been more than 5 at the time, asked me why I had TWO belly buttons? Little did I know that I was a candidate for plastic surgery to clean up the mess. This was more than 20 years ago, BEFORE plastic surgery became all the rage. Anyway, I'm happy I got my belly fixed and am back to having ONLY one belly button and feeling "normal" when I look at myself in the mirror. It's still doesn't look THAT "normal"...but hey..."new normal" is what it's all about......

VR - Thanks. I know there will be some scarring BUT at least the boob will look like the other one. That is the "new normal." When I get a surgery date, I will post it here so you gals can jump in my pockets if you want to. LOL!

Well, Jo, I'd love to jump in your pocket for the surgery but they make you put on one of those hospital gowns without pockets so I'll have to just sneak into the operating room and hold your hand. Don't tell the surgeon, though, and then he won't see me.

I'm throwing in my self pity for the failed S-GAP reconstruction I had in April 2009 and along with it the fear to try again. Burn baby burn! Going to NOLA in June!

Okay , there is some discussion of scars. My Ps left me with outrageous scars. I had a partial colin resection ten years ago. Reason , put on Celebrex and should not have been. BUT I got an infection. Hope you can follow this ------It started b/c they put betadine ointment on my triple lumen catheter site. Within in about 6 hours I developed a contact dermatitis, beyond the dermatitis area , i developed a streptococcal infection, that infected the abdominal incision.
What appears on my body now is a cross. The incision scarring from the mastectomies and the abdominal incision. It looks like a cross. What's odd to me is I had a c-section and a abdominal hysterectomy. and you can't see those scars. So why the cross.

I'd like to state that my first BS that misdiagnosed my cancer 2 1/2 years ago, whom I also threw in the fire a while back, left a hideous scar on my breast that actually looks like a crooked lip smile on a smiley face, sort of like this (----) but the line in between is curved. I swear it was done intentionally, like it's laughing back at me. My second surgeon who actually diagnosed the cancer did such a superb job that my oncologist commented that she has never seen such great work.
Sas - oooooo, contact dermatitus must have iched like a b-tch, and to turn into a terrible infection.

yep ducky...I think I am just used to being thought of as a fair bit younger than my age...people have always said "you're 35?really?" then "40..really?" then..."no way are you 45"...now I am 49 and being guessed older...which tells meI am tired looking or the pain I feel every day because of this back stuff is showing...I also work with people who are , on average, 20 years younger than me and I have never really felt older...but I sure do now....no starting the evening at 10pm for me any more!...at least, not at the moment!
