So...whats for dinner?

Kaara your Liver & Onions certainly go some discussion going eh - ha ha !
You have a lot on your plate these days Laurie and like the weather has done for you today.. things brighten upSteak, veggies and corn of the cob always sounds like a good dinner to me.
DH is golfing this evening - first day this week its not raining here either - as I am not a cook for one person I think I will do a simple Greek Salad and pita bread.
Debbie that is hilarious with 'no meat' tacos.... chemo brain ???
0 -
Debbie - I got a chuckle out of your no meat taco story, too! Best laid plans...
Laurie - glad you are able to relax a little today after the stress of yesterday and your friend's funeral. I was able to sit out on the dock and read for a while, until it started to thunder a bit. It's raining somewhere near us. We got a few sprinkles but that's about it. I almost finished the first Fifty Shades of Grey...feel like I should be wrapping the cover in a brown paper bag...LOL!
I used to cook liver and onions once a year for my ex-husband. I know what the liver does...so I'm definitely not eating it!
I went shopping today and sprung for some real breast prostheses. I've been making do with the "chicken cutlets" but I decided that I'd like a little more shape, and my recon surgery is off the table. These new foobs are not too bad, but wow are they pricey. I'll have to send in the bill to my insurance company - they'll cover most of it. Anyways, it's nice to see my chest stick out further than my tummy! It was all very impulsive of me.
We're going out to dinner tonight with my son and his SO. Hopefully the weather continues to be nice and we can sit out on the patio.

Michelle- Have a great dinner, it is now raining here again too. At least the weekend looks promising. And yay for you getting new boobs. today! I hope they are comfy and you like them. Sometimes the impulse buy is the best one. I know what you mean about your belly sticking out farther than your boobs, although I have met you and you are tiny!! That was one of my fears before my BMX, I had big boobs and it gave me camouflage for my belly. I did sit ups for the 7 weeks prior to surgery!
Tazzy - your dinner sounds wonderful, love a greek salad, I like to warm my pita bread in the oven. enjoy your quiet night.
Kaara- I wasn't grossed out by your post, think back a few pages ago....people eating organs and brains....that was tame!!! LOL! It is all good here
0 -
Tazzy- Im blaming it chemo brain, thats my story and im stickin to it lol! My Dh golfed yesterday and it poured but they still golfed, it could snow and they still golf.
Michelle- I have the cushiny foobies because i havnt found a good breast prosthesis that is not big and bulky or heavy. Maybe thats my problem these are not real maybe with a good investment i would be happier with mind. I wonder if after 2 years would ins still cover them? Glad you got out and shopped. im so sorry you are not able to have your recon surgery, (((hugs))))

Debbie- Talk about a Freudian slip!! Oops!
So DS#1 asked for spaghetti o's for dinner....sigh ok. I serve both him and DS#2 a bowl of them. DS #2 ( 2 yrs old) says " this not good. You not cook it. Yuck. I want real food." LOl!!!!! Out of the mouths of babes.

they are crazy golfing in the rain... well any weather in my mind. And yes, they would golf whatever the weather.
A few pages back talking about eating brains and organs... ???? My mind has gone into overdrive now.
I am joing to enjoy a nice quiet evening.. maybe even read for a bit - first time all this week. I may even have a beer to go with it.
I meet up with my surgeon on Wednesday about my surgery..been able to put off thinking about it this past 6 months whilst I've been on chemo. I will find out if I am a candidate for immediate recon or not.... I have no idea about all this stuff and buying new foobies etc.
0 -
Lauire- Yes, i decided to delete it even though it was an innocent mistake i didn't want to offend anyone.'-))
Tazzy- Good luck with your appt hope you are a candidate for recon.
Waiting for DH to get home so we can get this show on the road!!!

Chinese tonight, stopped at the Mango Grill in Ayer and picked up Port Fried Rice, 2 orders of Egg Roll and Beef Teriaki. They have good food there.
My left tata's skin aroung the nipple and below feels rubbery, I am getting anoying twingy type pain and it still is a little swollen under the nipple and to the armpit. I heard that once you get cellulitis there is a good chance it will reoccure. I HOPE THE HELL NOT!!!
More news on Rebekah & Nick. They are flying in Sunday, he will be admitted in the Lahey Clinic Sunday night, his procedure will be Monday morning and will be out that afternoon. They are staying at the Boston Marriot in Burlington until Thursday to make sure everything is OK.
((((WHOLE ROOM)))

Debbie - your insurance should cover prostheses. I think mine gets me new ones every two years. You should have no problem at all. My new ones are silicone but they weigh about 1/2 pound each. Remember, real ones have weight, too The brand I bought is Amoena Natura Light. I was surprised at how much better I liked these. I had tried some micro-bead foobs and didn't like those, either. I would have bought another set of chicken cutlets if they had a bigger size. But the biggest is about the equivalent of a small B (which is what I already had), so I had to get the real deal to go up a size. I put them on in the store and didn't want to take them off, so I guess it was a good purchase!

luv - weirdly, my insurance did not cover the actual forms (prosthetics) but would cover a mastectomy bra. I had immediate placement of TEs - so I was recon from the start, but you can see my list of surgeries and the removal of the left TE. It was out 7 months during chemo so I needed to put something there for balance. My insurance denied coverage for the prosthetic saying I was a recon patient - crazy, right? They won't pay for a prosthetic as a stop-gap once you have been designated recon, unless you have the recon permanently removed. I tried the cutlets but one popped out on the kitchen floor so I was a little nervous about going out in public with them, lol! I also used the fluff and cotton forms that came with my BMX camisole - I liked those because they are weightless ad I could pin them in so they couldn't escape. I finally went to the gift closet in the ACS Hope Lodge and they gave me a brand new prosthetic (the $200 kind!) for free! I about cried with gratitude!

SpecialK, well, I guess I could see their point about the form from an "auto-response" perspective. But I suspect a call to the nurse navigator explaining the removal of the TE would have gotten a better answer. In any case, I'm glad the ACS took good care of you. I could/should have bought these last November when both my TEs were removed. But I thought I was dealing with a temporary situation and couldn't see spending the money on true forms if I was having recon in a few months. But yesterday, I decided to just get over it, and get some real forms. I was worried about the comfort/weight but I wore these all day and I was fine. I'm sure my dresses will look better, too.
Deb - I am sure you're looking forward to seeing Rebekah and Nick, even if it's just for a couple days. Hopefully, everything will go well with his surgery.

Nay on the liver and onions....I remember once when I was little my mom made us have liver for dinner and I tried to give mine to the dog under the table and he wouldnt even eat it. My mom found it when cleaning up and I got in a lot of trouble...I think she made me eat another sm piece.
My son treated me to lunch at the local diner yesterday, kind of an old fashioned place that you can drive up in your car and be served or sit at the counter outdoors, they have the best homemade rootbeer, had a fish sandwich to go with it.
Laurie, So glad you at least got some moments to relax a little and read. That must have been an emotional day. Funny story on your sons response..they will probably grow up to appreciate good cooking.
Michelle Congrats on the new foobs. I read Shades of Gray but on my kindle, ha ha so no one knew what I was reading. I need to download the 2nd one, but have been too busy to read.
Raining here today UGHHH gotta find something fun to do with son and girlfriend since boating is out. I know they really had their hearts set on jetskiing today.

debbie: LOL on the DH golfing stories....my BF does the same...rain, hail, sleet or snow...the golf game goes on! I only play paradise golf...every condition must be perfect or I'm outta there!
Michelle: good for you on the new foobs. I would do the same...screw the cost...it's about looking and feeling your best! I read the first Fifty Shades book and am about half way into the second. Frankly I don't see what all the fuss is about. I don't think the writing is all that good...to me it's just a smut novel. Two words I will forever eliminate from my vocabulary I'm so tired of seeing them in print...."oh my"....and "come". Ladies, if you've read the book you know what I mean;)
I made asian lettuce wraps for dinner last night and we watched a Netflix movie "One Day" about a young couple who spent years trying to maintain a friendship rather than falling in love and making a life together. It was a riveting movie and sends a good message about going after what you want in life. Be prepared to cry.
I think I'll go into Asheville today and shop at the big mall. Our shopping mall here in Hendersonville is so pitiful that I can actually get depressed when I go in there:( I need a day off from planting flowers and herbs! My results look good though.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Oops: Hit submit before I got to the last page...good luck Tazzy on your app't, and deb..I pray that your problem does not recurr.
Laurie...two year old's are so honest...my little DGD uses that phrase too when she doesn't like something...."noooo good!" She kept saying this about her water in her sippy cup one day until I finally tasted it and UGH! there was something in the tip that had soured and it tasted just awful...poor little thing would not drink from that cup again! It had to be thrown out.

Carberry, funny memory about the dog refusing liver.
I never tasted liver since we never had to try palate challenging food growing up. My father was a very fussy eater and severely allergic to fish ( we could only cook Mrs, Paul's fishsticks if he went on a long business trip) and my mother only cooked what he liked, so we rarely had to try anything out of their mainstream of beef, pork or chicken, potatoes, peas, green beans and pasta. I used to love going out to dinner and ordering fish. I had a wonderful world of food to discover once living on my own, so we have a very different kitchen than my mom's. I also discovered during her visits here that my mother had her own fussy palate, but never realized that since in your mother's house she cook's what she eats! DH will eat anything.....I bet he'd even try liver, but I can't quite force myself to make it....even when my OB suggested it 35 years ago after I experienced major blood loss during the complicated delivery of DS1. The doc would not transfuse me since HIV tainted blood was showing up in bloodbanks then and he wouldn't take the risk.....said I could rest, eat liver and other red meat and replenish my blood cells on my own. I eventually did, but what a terrible way to start mothering a non-sleeping firstborn. I was like a weak zombie. A friend of mine had a similar need and her doc did transfuse her. She kept telling me she felt like a million dollars....I so envied her....and she did not get tainted blood. A crap shoot then, I guess.....but liver never entered the picture.
Laurie, I love that your two year old already has a discerning palate! I'm sure that DS1 will be the same once his throat can manage more textures and eat your good food again. Hope your weekend includes some relax time for you.....what a week!
I plan to do very little this weekend. After travelling to my college reunion in the midwest last weekend, (two days of travelling for two days of reunioning since there is no direct way to get to South Bend from here) and working ten hour days all this week, I am totally done in. One day this week when I tried to do an errand after work, I fell asleep at a red light. That was scary! So I will do no more travelling with this fatigue issue.....and probably need to stop the crazy work schedule. But this weekend......., rest, watch Celtics/Heat, catch up on MadMen, and no cooking tonight, since DH will be off DJ'ing a party for a friend of a friend. Maybe I should be eating liver for my mitochondria!!!
Sorry for such a long post......0 -
I pulled out some pork to thaw. At least that's what it says on the bag.....lots of frost :-) In the mean time, I've got to take my 94 year old mom to an eye exam and work on the kitchen cabinet under the sink and declutter...and get some sourdough going.
I saw my best buddy yesterday. It's been so long that I was almost nervous....
0 -
Lacey it sounds like you need a nice relaxing day! I hope you get it:) Technology is an amazing thing, Imagine how far we have come that they wouldn't give you a transfusion back then?
Eric-Hope you had fun with your friend. I have a couple of friends that I might go a couple of years without seeing and we pick up like it was yesterday. I love to throw pork in the crock pot with a can of diced tomatoes and some salt and pepper and make pulled pork out of it. I just remove and shred it when done and add BBQ sauce. I bet it would be great on that sourdough you are going to start...mmmmm.
We just got back from the greenhouse and got lots of good stuff. I wish I had an unlimited budget!! I let the boys pick a lot of what we got so it isn't going to be "balanced" but ohwell, they are happy and I am sure it will still look good. I am hoping the boys will nap and then we can do some planting and go for a swim. Fingers crossed!!

Both the dog I grew up with and the dog I have now absolutely love liver. The dog I grew up with was quiet when he ate it. The little yellow labrador retereiver I have now is very noisy when she eats liver.
I'm very glad I grew up with the silent liver eater. :-)
Off to the eye exam...

Laurie... for an unbalanced look - I think they are a lovely looking combination - and your little boy is adorable - he looks so proud. I hear ya on the unlimited budget...wouldn't that be nice eh?
Enjoy your night off Lacey... I had one of those on Thursday... no cooking, just did a Greek Salad, laid on the sofa and read... it was blissful.
I have just put some Pork ribs in the crockpot on low - gonna have them with coleslaw and corn on the cob.
AND it is still raining here - so much for living in a semi-arid dessert ????

Tazzy good luck on your surgeon meeting!
Laurie, those are a lot of flowers! Your son is so cute. I wish he could help with my garden
Carberry, I'm glad you had a nice dinner with your son, isn't it great to spend time with the kids?
Michelle, I thought you were beautiful when we met, but maybe with your personality, you could come out of a swamp looking beautiful!
Deb, I'm sending thoughts your way, "Bad tata, bad. Bad tata, bad, now knock it off already!" I hope that worked, if it didn't, I will try the carrot, as opposed to the stick approach.
Here is a great idea that I've been bringing to lunch. I use used spagetti jars, because I lose things. They are called "Mason Jar Salads" I like low fat blue cheese dressing with shredded carrots, canned beets, artichocks, cucumbers, onions, black beans iceburg and lettuce from the garden and sometimes some shredded cheese or fresh dill. It really saves time! There are lots of easy recipes on the web and they last up to 5 days so you can stock up. You can also put ham or chicken or tuna or whatever in them.

Great idea, Bedo....and the photo is like a still life.
Laurie, your garden is going to be a lovely work of art...and with that proud little gardener watching over his picks! So cute!
By the way, Michelle, I loved hearing about you wearing your new foobs home. It reminded me of that thrilling feeling of being a little girl allowed to wear her brand new Mary Janes home from the shoe store! There are very few things we get to wear home from the store! So glad they are working out nicely.....when I met you I would never have guessed you were hiding chicken cutlets in there.....seriously did you make up that term?
Deb , good luck to your family this weekend. Nice to have DD and her fiance here for the procedure...and such a deal! When is the shower?0 -
Bedo love the Mason jar idea!!!
Ok quick dog story. When I was little I was feeding my dog my broccolli under the table. We were all almost done eating and I fed him the last piece. He then proceeded to vomit- while under the table- with all of us sitting there. Needless to say dinner was then over and when my mother saw the broccolli in his vomit I was in a lot of trouble. After that I switched to the technique of saving what I did not like until the end, I would put as much in my mouth as I could and then excuse myself to go to the bathroom and spit it in the toilet. That didn't get me too far either.....

Those Mason Jar Salads are ingenious.... will be going on my shopping list for sure. Now to look up the recipes. Bedo do you make your own blue cheese dressing? Since I have been off work, I have taken to making up my own dressings and am always on the look out for new ones.

Awesome idea bedo, I have a lot of large mason/ball jars up in the attic, I have to put them to use.
The shower is June 23rd.
Doing yard work and being careful not to get scratched or bitten by anything. Sunscreen on and bug spray on.

What a neat idea that would be for a picnic...just pack the jars of salad and you're good to go.
I ate some hummus and lentil chips today and now I'm having severe stomach cramps. I checked the label and the hummus has wheat in it....definitely not gluten free! Didn't know I was that allergic to wheat...now I know what used to cause my stomach cramps:(

Hi all! I just browned some pork chops and tossed in some new potatos and carrots with an onion and turkey gravy. Ready in 45 minutes with no fuss.
0 -
for lunch we had barbecued chicken wings - done in the weber, just salt, pepper and some smoked paprika for spices - I can't stand barbecue sauce.... To go with I made potato salad - something I don't make often as it's got dairy in it (I use sour cream) - but certainly gluten free. For dinner we're having steak and salad - nice and easy.

Sharon wanted to clean up the refrigerator, so we are eating left overs....so I'm playing handyman today..

Michelle- There has been a lot of hype in the news lately about the 50 shades of grey had never heard of it before now, im guessing its and R or X rated? LOL! Also, never heard of the chicken cutlets either i thought you were making a funny, but i guess thats what they call them? Hmmm learning something new everday! Thanks for the tip on the Breast prosthesis i am going to ask my dr for a prescription for some new ones. The only bras and forms i ever got was from the AMC a couple of years ago they gave me like 10 MX bras (all new) and some big heavy forms so im due for some good ones.
Specialk- Funny story on the cutlets falling on the floor, i remember one night out a year or so ago i was out with friends in a club and after being there talking to people all night i looked down and happen to see my foobie sticking right up out of my top.
Carrie- LOL on the dog wouldnt even eat the liver. woops busted LOL!
Kaara- I saw that movie and yep it was a jerker.
Deb- Hope all goes well with his surgery.
Lacey- I was lucky that way too, never had to try those kinds of foods, my parents became vegetarians while i was still pretty young.Hope you get some good rest.
Eric- Glad you got to spend some time with your best buddy especially after your busy shedule lately.
Tazzy- Yum on your dinner.
laurie- I love all the different colors of your plants would love to see pics after you have planted them. Cute picture of your son.funny story on the dog too. ewww though lol!
Bedo- Love that idea on the mason jars and it looks scrumptous too!
Moonflwr and gardengumby- your dinners both sound so yummy its making me hungry!
0 -
Bedo - you are too kind! And the Mason Jar Salad idea is brilliant! That picture would look great in my kitchen, I may have to print it
Laurie - what an adorable picture! I'll bet the boys were so proud of their selections! And I'll bet they will love watching "their" flowers grow.
Gardengumby - great idea for barbecuing the chicken wings. I make "hot legs" on the grill - just put a rub on chicken drumsticks, grill them, then mix some Frank's hot sauce mixed with butter and brush it on the legs during the last 20 minutes or so of grilling. Pretty yummy if you like buffalo wings. And chicken drumsticks are always less expensive than chicken wings.
Lacey - LOL, I didn't make up that term - when I explained to my girls what I had bought last fall, they said "oh, chicken cutlets!". And if you go to Amazon and do a search, those breast "enhancers" show up! Apparently these things are rather popular with the young ladies! You'd be surprised how many two piece swimsuit tops have openings on the inside to accommodate inserts...who knew???
We had a nice late afternoon/evening with our next door neighbors and the family who lives across the street. DH was working on the patio getting the furniture out and all arranged. The people next door came over and we starting drinking wine and beer. The guys ended up removing the portion of fence that separates our two outdoor spaces, so now it's all one really big area. We made plans to have a neighborhood 4th of July breakfast cookout, which will be loads of fun. Then the folks from across the street, who have been "borrowing" our boat dock for their pontoon boat, came out with their parents and we went out with them for a cruise around the lake. The guys ordered pizzas so supper was more about the company than the food. The weather was just gorgeous today!

Sorry about that last long post i didn't want to leave anyone out.
Last night i went to the hag as i mentioned i was going there. didnt know that Dh had it planned out so a lot of friends showed up to celebrate my birthday since Tuesday Dh has to work early. I was shocked when we walked in and all these people were there they had the table decorated in hawaii themes. Large palm trees (Plastic ones) leis and the whole works it was so awesome. (too bad Lacey and Seaside wasn't there to celebrate theres too with me) They made me get up on stage and put this big Ginormous, Sombrero hat on and gave me a shot of tequiclla while Micheal sang the tequilla song i had to say Tequilla everytime he got to that part. It was kind of embarrassing but so much fun. then off to the Mist we all went and Brett had everyone sing to me and they were giving me shots of something called spider bites, never had them before and pretty sure i will never, ever drink them again. LOL! I had the spins when i got up this morning so went back to bed for most of the day.Ugghh! I had a great night though, so much fun from what i remember anyway hehe!
