Bedoe, congrats! lacy, let us know what DH thinks when he sees the cupbords are bare there too! LOL Michelle have fun tomorrow. My DH came home early to run to Culvers and pick up a hamburger for me, so not the healthiest. But I didn't have to dig deep in the cupboards. Actually, I was gonna make an almost Elvis again. I seem to be craving peanut butter. (Well, maybe its the Bacon...LOL) Very weird. Everyone have a good weekend.

    I know I'll miss someone...Again, my apologies...

Tazz..glad your drains are also out.

And Michelle....positive vibes that all goes well tomorrow.  Good job on getting the 9 year old all tired out... :-)

I'm probably jinxing myself, but so far I haven't had any laundry accidents.   If you have a dog, could there be a "the dog ate them"?  :-)

I've heard my mom talk about miso....what's it taste like?  I'e probably had it in something, but I didn't realize it.  Mom said it's fermented soybeans, so I'm guessing it has a bit of a sour flavor..????

I didn't cook tonight. I can tell that all the schools and universities have started again. I'm now spending a bit more than 3 hours total for my commute.

Tomorrow is the trash pickup day, so instead of cooking, I trimmed the bushes. My arms are scratched up quite badly.  It looks like either I was trying to escape prison by climbing over the razor wire or Jessie, our 31 pound (but according to the vet, not fat) cat decided my arms were scratching posts.

Sharon cooked tonight.  A cucumber, bell peeper, green onion, lime juice, salt, pepper and garlic salsa and Tilapia.  It was good. We have enough for tomorrow.

I can't decide if I should be amused or dismayed at the Tilapia packaging..."WARNING:  Contains fish."

Tazzy-Yay on the (Gonzo) drains! Hope the rads go by fast for you with no SE!

Michelle- Wow what a day you had but sounds like you had a good time with DGS before you have to start your tx's hope it all goes smooth for you. Glad you got your new laptop I prefer a laptop too I like having a big screen to look at.

Bedo- Too late I already spilled the beans and he really wasn't toooo upset! LOL! Congrats on Mammo being good!

Eric- I tried that in school when i didn't do my homework and it didnt work then doubt it would work now hehe! Ouch on the scratches, you should wear long shirts when you do that.

Tazzy  Yay on the drains and especially the NED part!!

    Michelle  Good luck today.

Had lots of leftover cheese from a cheese appetizer platter, so made mac n cheese last night.  Very lazy of me, but had a busy day of dill pickle making...wanted out of the kitchen!

Gonna be 90 deg here today

Eric, in the spirit of our thread's typo fun, I was wondering if 'peeper' and tilapia counts as "surf and turf"? ;)

Carrie - homemade dill pickles, yum!  Do you ever pickle green beans?  Perfect for a bloody mary!!!

Everything is running fast today at Dana Farber.  I'll have my CAT scan at 2 instead of 3, yeah!  This Rasberry Ice crystal light stuff wouldn't be so bad if it weren't so darn sweet.    But I'll be on my way to Old Orchard Beach an hour earlier, so that's a good thing...assuming that DH checks in with me soon.  We have a convoluted meet-up.  I'm going to the airport and meeting him there, leaving my car and he's driving me to meet up with my son and SO.  We'll all go to dinner together, he's going to head back to the airport to drop off the rental car he used for his trip to NJ and then drive my car home.  I hope this all works out...lol!

Luvrving, glad things are going well so far! Here's hoping it keeps up.

    Lacey, surf and turf, funny.

Carberry, mac and cheese sounded good.

Eric, miso is kinda like a teriyaki sauce, kinda. A bit salty, umame flavor. It's thicker though and a bit redder. I keep thinking its Saturday, how strange is that. Much love to all.

Hi ladies:  My goodness...I was gone from the site for three days and I can hardly keep up with the posts.  It looks like this one has been very active and that's great...a lot going on!  I was in Myrtle Beach for a few days then to Pawley's Island and Charleston.  It was a lot of fun with very good food.  The first night we had ahi tuna seared, with a wonderful ginger sauce.  The guys had prime rib.  The next night we had mahi mahi with a good cajun rub, sauteed in butter and garlic with some veggies and a shrimp stir fry.

The day we went to Charleston, we ate at Hyman's Seafood, which is rated as the best in Charleston.  It was divine!  The hush puppies were complementary at the door while you were waiting.  My friend and I shared a seafood platter with cole slaw and I had a side of collard greens.  Didn't have dessert, but they looked yummy...sweet potato pie, bourbon pecan pie, bread pudding, etc.

I had boiled lightly salted peanuts for the first time.  They were pretty good....I refer to them as redneck edamame now...lol!

I head for Florida on Tuesday...that is if the hurricane doesn't create a problem for me travelwise:(

Hello to everyone else - hope you are well.   Sorry for not addressing everyone.

Luv - hopng to hear all went well today.

Lasagne and garlic bread tonight.  DH had to drive to Vancouver (4 hours away) so wont be back until late'ish tonight.

Michelle- Hope things continue to run smoothly today and you got some good rest last night. Enjoy your dinner out tonight!

Kaara- Good to see you checking in. Sounds like you have been pretty busy and having a good time. What a great idea to give out little nibbles while you wait, wonder if they do that with coctails too? hehe!

We started out diet tuesday which means no flour. starch, rice, or sugar and the portions are about 5 oz for our protien and about 800=1000 calories a day, should be a breeze right? NOT! Actually I havnt really been that hungry because you eat several small meal a day, I will have 1 square of dark chocolate for dessert. but Friday wil be our "Free Day" Anything we want, we did that last year and it works great. So, tonight I will pig out and the rest of the week eat "Healthy" or Healthier I should say.

I itched all night last night, and woke up this morning with welts on my body and my eyes were almost swollen shut even my eyelids itched. I guess its hives? Maybe from all the stress I havn't eaten anything new or used a new product or soaps, so I am assuming thats what it is, but weird eh? Arghh!

    Have a nice weekend everyone!

Michelle, hope all the logistics worked today and that you are soon home resting!

Debbie, as a person who gets hives on occasion, (I have lots of allergies), I can imagine what you are experiencing, and hope you have some benedryl or an epipen handy to help it subside.

It is an awful feeling to have your body start puffing up without your permission! I hate it!

Am actually seeing an allergist next month to see why I have suddenly had some bouts. And yes, stress does impact our immune systems so that you would certainly be more prone to getting hives now. ((((Feel better))))

Kaara, fun reading about your culinary experiences in SC. Hope you have an uneventful trip to FL.

We are at Old Orchard Beach and will be heading out for lobster in a few minutes.  Everything went well and I go back next Friday to pick up my drugs.  Yippee!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

    Michelle, things are sounding good!

Now, as someone who planted 7 cherry tomato plants by accident, some were supposed to be other kinds, what can I do with the 40-50 coming in each day other than keep giving them away?

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

PS, Debbie official International Talk like a Pirate day is Sept 19th.  Aaarrgh! Maybe rash from weird fall mold from leaves turning?? I have allergies only in the fall and it's starting even though some days are still in the 90s, we've had some cool days.

    Yeaaa, Michelle! Sounds great!

Bedo, wish I lived next door to you, as someone who has lots of basil and no tomato plants this year. Got tired of feeding them to the chipmunks every year....but this year there would have been plenty for them and for us!

If you have that many tomatoes coming in, consider slow roasting them. Then throw them into a ziplock [enough for one meal of sauce or something] and freeze. I like to slow roast with some garlic and basil. Lots of instructions on slow roasting on the web.

Tazzy, yeah on absentee drains and NED!  Moonflower, I believe you got rid of your drains, too?  Yippee!

Michelle, how did bc ever catch up with you in the first place!  You are a Woman on the Move.  Glad your day at DF went well.  When you get a chance, would you do a recap on that corn salad you made a few weeks ago?  Ingredients and the dressing.  The corn is stacking up in my refrig.  People keep giving it to us.

Eric, long sleeves are a definite must for pruningj bushes.

The brats turned out great last night.  DH and I got on our separate computers and googled Cooking brats.  The concensus was "Cook the brats in a good beer."  So we did.  I poured a whole bottle of DH's beer, which is bitter, into a skillet and cooked the brats on the outside burner.  When most of the liquid was gone, he browned the brats on the grill and I dumped sauerkraut into the skillet and let it simmer in the remainder of the beer.

The grilled eggplant and yellow squash also turned out good.

Tonight's dinner was a walleye and wild rice meal at the American Legion in Park Rapids.  Potato salad, coleslaw, rolls.  The food was very good, especially the fish and the wild rice.  It was a fundraiser for the DFL, which turned out to be the democratic farmer labor political party.  I bought a t-shirt!

Tomorrow is the farmers mkts.  I haven't cooked everything from last Sat.!

Lacey- I took a benedryl and it did help alot. I used to get hives as a kid, at first they thought it was from strawberries then said it was from the sun I out grew both because i always eat strawberries and sit in the sun with no problems so this was really out of the ordinary for me now. but fine tonight, maybe the beers I derank relaxed me and it was just anxiety. Do you use a epipen? I have asthma and have one in case i need it.

Michelle- Been thinking about you today and glad everything went well for you. ((( hugs)))

Bedo. why don't you put the cherries in some one else's car with some zucchini too lol! You could always donate the cherries to a church or something, I don't know, sound like a lot though. I would love to join the pirates day I can talk the talk lol

Susan- I love slow roasted tomatoes. I usually put a lot of garlic on them with basil. oregeno, itialian seasoning. and parmesan cheese yum!

Rreally good cookie recipe for overripe bananas

    BANANARAMA 2 BITE COOKIES

1 1/4 cup lightly packed brown sugar

3/4 cup peanut butter  (I used part almond butter because I had it  but both work)

    1/2 cup shortening

1 cup mashed bananas (2 large overripe bananas=1cup)

    3 tbsp milk

    2 tbsp vanilla extract

    1 tsp almond extract

1 lrg egg or egg substitute

Combine above ingredients in lrg bowl at med speed

    Combine:

    2 cups all purpose flour

1/4  cup  oatmeal flakes (or a little more)

    1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt (I use sea salt)

Add dry ingredients to wet & mix at low speed

    Mix in:

2 1/2 cups or so of chocolate chips, walnuts, peanuts, raisins, craisins, pecans, dried fruit.....any combination of whatever you have.

Drop fat tsps of dough onto foil lined cookie sheet.  (The cookies remove easily & no trays to wash.)

Bake 350'     12-13 minutes, until lightly browned around edges.

Cool for 2 minutes & transfer to cooling rack....if you leave them any longer they tend to stick.

I am a slap/dash cook, but everything seems to turn out okay... doubled the recipe(because I had 4 ripe bananas ) & made 12 dozen...freeze well.

I take little bags of these "2 BITES" to my CCS drivers, therapists, neighbours...they love them.

    "LITTLE THINGS MEAN A LOT"

    EnjoyKiss

Wow Isabelle, those cookies sound great! Thanks!

Debbie, yes, I also have an epipen, but I have yet to use it. A few weeks ago when I broke out in an allergic reaction from head to toe, I opted to take two benedryl and call the doc rather than do the pen and have to race to the ER. Well, it was almost 5 PM so the nurse in the docs office told me I should go to the ER to be evaluated. Great! I went and waited for over three hours and my reaction had totally remitted by the time I was seen...thank you benedryl!

I know at benedryl is a no-no for Tamoxifen folks, but as my doc said the breathing risk trumps cancer recurrence. Guess I'd have to agree.....

    Michelle,

Glad all the testing went well and you are able to get started! Hoping this trial is the one!!

Hope you enjoy your stay in Old Orchard Beach. We went to York Harbor for a few days last year and it was so pretty!! Totally different than the southern beaches we usually go to and the lobster.........mmmmmmmmm!!

    Bedo,

You cracked me up on the 'grilled fresh brats' comment..... lol. Holy smokes on the tomato plants!!! I overdid it this year, too!!

This recipe is super easy (especially if you have an immersion blender but, regular one works too), really tasty and uses a lot of tomatoes and it doesn't matter what kind. I have made it with a mix, with just romas and even just grape tomatoes..... Comes out good no matter which you use...

    http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyler-florence/roasted-tomato-soup-recipe/index.html

    Susan,

Thanks for the idea on the slow roasted tomatoes!! Hadn't thought of that but am going to give it a try before the tomatoes take over my whole house...lol!!

    Debbie,

Sorry to hear about the hives! Stress most definitely can do that to you. I went through that a few years back. They never did figure out what was causing them. Guess that's more common than not... No known cause....

You must have freaked when you realized your Shout mistake!!! Bet you 'shouted' a few things, too!

My laundry disaster was when my kids were little. Made the fatal mistake of not checking pockets. My son had a whole pocket of crayons. They made it through the washer without falliing out where I would have noticed, but in the dryer they turned into an ooooey, gooeey mess!!!! All over everything including the dryer itself!! Needless to say I have checked pockets religiously since!!!

    Isabelle,

Thanks for the cookie recipe! I buy bananas frequently because my kids both like them but, I always seem to have one or two that get over-ripe before we get to them. I usually peel them, wrap them individually in saran wrap and add them to a bag in the freezer. That way I can use them later in banana bread, smoothies, etc. I think the next use is going to be in those cookies!!!

    ISABELLE'S PESTO     Makes about 1 1/2 cups

3  to  4 packed cups fresh basil leaves

1/2 cup toasted pine nuts or use about same of walnuts (don't have to toast)

4 or 5 large cloves garlic

1/2 to 2/3 cup  extra virgin olive oil (can use other oils but I prefer evo)

    1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese

    salt to taste

2 to 3  tbsp lemon juice (fresh or bottle)

I use an immersion/stick  blender & do garlic first , then add basil, nuts, cheese, lemon juice, salt  until chopped.  Gradually add oil, scrape sides of blender  to mix well.

Keep covered in fridge...can freeze in small quantities & take out as needed. (Use ice cube trays to make small cubes)

Tastes best at room temperature.   We have it on whole wheat crackers.

    Good on pasta too.

Because it freezes well you could use up your basil & enjoy this (usually expensive) treat during the winter.

I am the ultimate "Slap Dash Cook"  so don't worry about being too exact....always turns out.

    Lacey,

Just made pesto yesterday and froze it. I usually make it when I do a lot of pinching of the basil to keep it from going to seed rather than throwing it out....

I make it without adding the cheese and freeze it, first in ice cube trays and then transferred to a freezer bag. Then, when I need some, I just grab a couple of cubes, let them thaw and add roughly an equal amount of the parmesan cheese right before I use it.

Sooooo good and with what pesto costs in the store really worth it!!

this is nice. there are so many posts to read since I've last been here.  Yay for the drains.

I have no idea what to cook tonite.  I go downtown between 3.30 and 5.30 so it is difficult to figure out what to cook.. It's supposed to be raining gangbusters so i can't rely on the boys grilling.  We can't use the oven because it is summer and we don't ever use air conditioning and the oven at the same time.. rolley eyes.  I hate to cook the days after my chemo because i get so nauseous while cooking that i won't want to eat.  i love tomato sauces, but my family gets tired of my tomato sauce recipes.

what to choose.. what to choose.

Here is a suggestion:   when it is too hot for the oven I use the slow cooker & put it out on the deck.  Ribs, roasts, chicken, chops almost anything will work.  Toss in veggies & dinner is cooked when you get home.    Very little effort & very little clean up.

Google "slow cooker" recipes or I could help you out...use mine all the time.

Thanks Seaside snd Isabelle...With the pesto I don't recall ever putting lemon juice in mine...but I like the idea. Also like the idea of saving the cheese addition until the frozen cubes are thawed. I have this terrible habit of rarely using things I have placed in the freezer, so my pesto used to emerge like cardboard blocks months later. Now that I will be home to make dinner, I can be more organized about those little frozen cubes. My family used to love my creamy pesto sauce with shrimp and scallops over linguini. Was a Christmas Eve favorite....now we rarely use cream sauces.

I guess I'm the ultimate bell peeper.. :-)  Out in mom's back yard is an old ship's bell that I keep looking at.  Someday I'd like to bring home as it evokes a lot of fond memories.

The bell was at the house where I grew up.  In the quiet desert, it could be heard for at least 1/2 a mile...It probably could be heard farther, but until I was old enough for a watch, I didn't test it!  Anyway, when it was time for dinner, mom or dad would go out and ring the bell.

I managed to bring together "bell peeper" and "what's for dinner". :-)

Sharon was going to get rid of a couple of "dead" bananas.  She's trying to lose her chemo weight, so she may hate me, but that cookie recipe showed up just at the right time.  Usually I make banana bread..but the cookies sound better today.

Dinner last night was the rest of the tilapia and the bell PEPPERS and then we went to the Friday night football game between Ironwood and Independence High Schools.  Chrissy was all over the place excited as it was her first football game where she was a high school student.  "Our" Ironwood team won, so Chrissy was happy.

I can't say how much she makes me smile.....  But, I'm guessing everyone else says the same thing...  :-)

Off to the chores.  Got to finish up a wall (mostly painting now), fix a power window, sweep and mop..... and get Chrissy to mow the lawn.....

My DH ended getting called in to work. Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't an hour and a half trip each way. (That's why he has an apt where he stays during the week) I Told him he doesn't have to come back this weekend, but he wants to. So he will. Nice, but weird. So not like it was before bc, he wouldn't come home for months. I really am enjoying the attention.
