Hello all, just to mention, my MIL passed this morning quietly in her sleep. I guess she just wanted to go when no one was there. I thought she was holding out til Xmas. But now she can get all the hugs she wants, she is in a good place. !

Oh Moon, so sorry. Thinking of you and your family. (((hugs)))

Monica,
I am sorry to hear this sad news. Such a gift for all of you that she passed quietly. May your memories bring you and your family some comfort.

My sympathies, Monica. I wish that fond memories sustain you and your family.

Moonflower, I am glad she passed peacefully. She was lucky to have you as a daughter
ltmguy There are medications that your doc can give you for nausea or lack of appetite, can you ask her/him? I hope you feel hungry soon
uvmygoats Sorry about the prep! I will have to do that soon. Enjoy the versed! Lol tonight is the worst part
Debbie, I was sad to hear about your Dad. I hope that you draw strength from your family and friends. I hope the best for your husband too. Hang in there
Michelle I'm glad that you're feeling better.
I was to have a day off tomorrow but found out at 3:00pm that it was not to be.
Went to Onc today. Referred me to a liver doctor.
Hoping that all is well so that I can keep hiking (major shin splints today) playing violin ( I stink) reading books, eating and seeing friends when I insist on another day off.
It's been hard to keep up, but I think of you all every day. Even those that I missed

I also have had 2 colonoscopies. The first one they found a polyp, I have a long and twisty colon so the hose was not long enough to reach the cecum so I had to go back and have xrays with a barium enema with air contrast to check way down into the cecum. So if they find a polyp you have to go back every 5 years. The last one was almost a year ago and because of my long and twisty colon the doctor had me start two days of just liquid, clear broth, and jello except red and then I had the prep called half lightly, it was a lot easier that drinking that gallon of sea water, made me sooooo sick.

Moonflower, sorry for your loss, but I do understand you saying she is in a good place. My Dad's QOL was not good for a long time, now he is with my Mom. She passed away at the young age of 64 in 1996 of BC.
My brother made me laugh a little at the ceremony for my Dad, he said to me, "Deb, can you hear that?" I said, "Hear what?" Mom is saying to Dad, "What the hell took you so long Bob, I have been waiting for over 16 years for you!" I chuckled at that cuz my Mom was a bit of a nagger and I proudly take after her, DH will attest to that, LOL.

Monica - I'm so sorry for your DH's and your loss.
Colonoscopy fine. On 10 year plan now. Wanted to eat everything in the house this afternoon but used restraint. Took a long nap instead. Propofol was the best. DH and I actually did a little bit of shopping after. MO appt next week. Labs but don't expect any major changes.

I have never had a colonoscopy unless you count the one about 25 years ago in my dr. office, I mentioned some problems and he said well, lets take a look! So he took this long thing a ma jig and tried to see what was going on, (trying not to get to explicit here) ha! It was so painful and I screamed for him to stop, he said it was his first time doing that and apologised. He also said it was twisted and couldn't fiqure out why! I left there crying and so upset, back then you didn't hear to much about those procedures and had no idea what i was getting into. Ughh!
Joyce- Hope your EGD goes well and find nothing serious going on!
Moon- Ahh so sorry! Any time is hard but the holidays must make it that much harder! (((Hugs)))
Bedo- Thanks! I hope nothing serious going on with your liver! Good to see you posting again!
Deb- I got a chuckle out of your post. Im sure things are hard for you and Michelle during the hoilidays too. Sending hugs and prayers!
Been busy making choc chop cookes and pochettes to send to my Grand-daughter she said she missed my cookies. So much for my diet I ate too many tonight! Made a crown roast with carrots and yams. Really good!

Debbie MMMM on the cookies...have not had a cookie in the house in a long time. Will do some Christmas ones when my daughter comes home, if I do them early they will be gone by the time she gets here.
Moon so sorry for your loss. So glad she went peacefully...thats all we can all hope for.
Deb funny story
Our steak last night was horrible...so tough. I have got to find a better place to buy meats other than the grocery store...so much money wasted.

Carrie, I buy all my meat at Costco. I've been more than pleased (and their steaks are outstanding). It's the main reason I joined. The one where I shop even has prime cuts.
Bedo, did I miss something? Are you ok?0 -
Nancy - Bedo said her doc is sending her to a liver doc...(((Bedo))) hope it's nothing serious.

Bedo, best of luck to you for a good result at the specialist appt.
Moon, condolences to you and your family for the loss of your MIL.
Just spent two days at the local hospital to be evaluated for cardiac symptoms (I was not convinced that was the right plan but none of my docs would give me an office appt, saying I had to go to the ER). And of course I was admitted...this has happened before with the results of the chest symptoms being nothing but muscular/skeletal issues related to my arthritis. This time, tho, lots of dizziness and nausea. My heart appears to be fine....symptoms seem to be related to the "optimal" dose of Gabapentin I had just reached in my constant quest for some sleep while on this Tamoxifen. So I am going to titrate off that new one.....tho still need to talk with MO.
Just now I heard on the news that the new recommendation for Tamoxifen duration is going to be TEN years. Great! (she says with utmost sarcasm!)
I get a colonoscopy every five years since I was so lucky as to need polyps removed the first time. I'm having "ten year colonoscopy scheduling envy" for those of you who had clear colons! And yes, the prep is actually the worst part. What I have enjoyed, however is knowing that after being totally emptied out, I can enjoy a really nice dinner that next evening....with no worry about calorie counting. Not sure I could ever undergo the procedure without sedation, however. Deb, serious ouch!
Michelle, what a terrible thing to be curled up in an ER chair trying waiting to be treated for kidney stones. Yikes! I hear it is so much worse for men to pass those...and not just because we are the stronger sex!
Have a good day everyone. Need to get back to normal here, and get something done at the tender hour of 1PM . I sure can waste time when it is available! Not sure how I ever worked ten hours a day for so long.0 -
(((Lacey))) Hospital for two days - yikes, glad you figured out what was causing the trouble! I haven't had any problems taking Temazepam (Restoril) for sleep. Maybe you can give that a try?
Yes, he was in extreme pain and couldn't pass it. It took two sessions of lithotripsy to smash it so he could pass it.

Michelle, be glad the lithtripsy worked. My hubby had a HUGE stone (almost an inch in diameter) and they tried lithotripsy - it wasn't even fazed. The had to go in through his back, cut it in pieces with laser (so that it would fit between his ribs) and take it out that way. It was a long slow recovery.

Michelle, glad the litho worked. That's probably the closest thing to labor pains and birth men get!
Lacey, glad they found it wasn't heart related.
Bedo, hope you get good news from the liver doc.
To all much love.0 -

My poor BIL had kidney AND gall stones. I remember during one particularly bad attack he laid on the floor and begged someone to kill him. I don't think he was kidding ;-)
Lacey yuk on the cardiac alarm. Glad you're ok. My doc just prescribed temazepam. I like it. Re: 10 year tamoxifen study, apparently the similar study on the AIs will be completed in 2 years. I don't even want to think what my joints will feel like in 10 years.0 -
Lacey, Two days in the hospital? oh dear oh dear. The best place in the world to get sick. Not often the search for sleep ends you up in an ER.
My husband had kidney stones early on in our marriage. And yes, if there had been a pistol nearby, he might have used it on himself. I have never seen him in that kind of pain before or since. We did go to the ER and were given a screen, sent home to filter pee and bring the stone back. Back then, our insurance was pretty awful. Certainly no offer to do anything other than letting nature run its course. Tough birds out in Montana.
My husband turns 60 today. We are having a celebration dinner this weekend with the kids at Rendezvous so I was told nothing special today. But, around noon, he decided we could do something special. He wants a burger from The Independent at the bottom of the hill. So that is the plan! Grilled cheese and tomato soup for lunch. Again, one of his favorites.

Susan, peeing it out through a filter is still standard treatment if the stone is small enough, but large stones that cannot be passed still need to get out of the kidney... ergo lithotripsy to break it up (kind of like getting kicked in your back for almost an hour) and then you still have to pee out the pieces, or if that doesn't work, surgery to cut it out...

So how did they know how big it was? No pictures were taken.... not that it really matters. He stopped drinking tea 3 times a day, and has never had another stone. [Thank goodness!]

Hubby was having unspecified gastrol pain. Doctors kept telling him he had IBS, but as he had never had a problem he kept pursuing the issue. They investigated up and down without finding anything. Finally a particular good doctor found that he had a "fairly large" kidney stone and referred him to a urologist. More pictures, more complete diagnosis, lithotripsy and ultimately surgery followed in rapid order.

My husband remembers having an xray or "something" to determine the size of his rock. I remember he came home from the urologist and explained the surgery that would occur if lithotripsy didn't work...he was bound and determined and told the technician to "turn it up all the way"... LOL!
Susan - wish your DH a happy birthday and enjoy the dinner celebration!
I was so ambitious today. I have a storage area just off my dining room that goes under my entryway stairs. It has been a nightmare of jumbled, disorganized and unused kitchen crap since we moved in. And I've had to store some nice serving dishes up in that "dead" space at the top of my kitchen cabinets. Today I emptied it out (also had 17 cans of paint that the landlord had stored in there), put the paint in a container for the landlord to pick up and do whatever, shed some old pans that I haven't used in a year and a half, put those nice serving dishes back on the shelves and basically cleaned and organized the whole closet. I had to take a few rest breaks but I am so happy to have it done. I have a box and plastic bag of stuff to be donated and it's in the car. I also cleaned up my messy corner near my chair to make room for the tree. But now I'm pooped! On Monday I cleared out the pantry closet in my laundry room so I can actually see white space in there and I organized all the food. Woohoo!
DH says he doesn't care what we have for dinner so I think it will be spaghetti. I have sauce left over from last week and neither of us is very hungry. I really need to go grocery shopping!!!

Wow, Michelle! That was a lot of work! Now you get to enjoy it!

What a lot of work for one day!
We are both getting massages tonight so I'm on the early train. For dinner I'm not sure. I took out some hamburger this morning, thinking I'd make a meatloaf, but that would be awfully late. I like your spaghetti idea, so maybe will "steal" some of the hamburger for spaghetti, and eat meatloaf tomorrow.0 -
Wow, Michelle, what an impressive feat! It must have been very satisfying to get rid of those paint cans! Enjoy your newly found space!
I have the intention to organize my kitchen food cupboards before Christmas so I can feel organized in my cooking efforts when the kids and grandbabies come to visit...that was to start this week....obviously I'd do anything to avoid it....thus the hospital stay. LOL! But you have re-inspired me.....:)
Happy BD to your DH, Susan! I'll be looking forward to your dinner post at that "special celebrations" restaurant.....0 -
Michelle!
That is a healthy person's day. My goodness how gratifying it must be to see the shelves and all your belongings clearly. I cheated for Thanksgiving and just loaded everything I didn't need for that meal into a box and took it to the basement. Thank goodness for basements.

I could not take Tamoxifen cuz I am Post men & ER/PR+ her2-. I finished Arimidex in July. Now I think the muscle ache is coming from the statin I take.
((((HUG EVERYONE)))

I do miss having a basement, until summer comes and I can enjoy the lake!
Joyce - the bunny has a little more energy these days! I think walking in Las Vegas built up a little endurance. I am finally caught up on laundry, too, and the summer clothes are packed away until I need them for Florida.
Tomorrow I have a cleaning service coming to give me a quote. DH talked a good story about doing the cleaning, but the reality is he doesn't have that much free time. He's vacuumed a few times and he helps with the dishes but I'm still cleaning the bathrooms, doing the laundry, degreasing the kitchen and dusting. Every moment is precious; I don't want to waste our time together cleaning.
Gardengumby - enjoy your massages, sounds divine!

I've been on tamoxifen for 2+ years and am 20 years post menopause. They started me on the Al's but I couldn't handle the se's. I was afraid I might have re-runs of menopause but guess I'm far enough away from those days to avoid that se. The side effects I have experienced have been moderate and do-able. Kind of like an acceleration and intensefication of the normal effects of ageing. At 70 I think I can handle another 3 years, at 75 I'll have to re-evaluate.
