So...whats for dinner?

carberry - sounds a lot like the dish my MIL would make for the kids (5 children in a 7 year span - including a set of twins) when she and my FIL were going out for the evening - she called it Mulligan Stew - same ingredients but not baked, without cheese.

Michelle, if you can't find the ginger candy, small pieces of crystallized ginger will work as well. You can find that in most large supermarkets, although it will be more expensive than the candy. Personally, I found the candies too peppery for my taste, but did have better luck with Anna's Ginger Thin cookies.

Apple has touched the hearts and minds of so many....around the world, really. What a loss! Damn disease!
I keep thinking of her girlchild and what this will mean for her....so very sad.0 -
I was hoping Apple would somehow get better was not expecting to hear this news. I have tears and feel like I lost part of my family. Feel so bad for her family and loved ones. Heaven will be a lucky place when she walks through the doors.

Isn't it wonderful that so many of us are grieving for Mary and most of us know her only on these forums at bc.org.
More rain today.
Tonight will be a hotdog at the New Orleans Hornets (pro basketball) game. We're going with another couple who arranged for the tickets. It's Family Night with a lower ticket price that includes a hot dog, drink, and chips! They're picking us up so dh won't have to drive. He gets sleepy driving back home across the 24 mi. long Lake Pontchartrain Causeway at night.

Nausea so much better today, but the ativan is sending me to bed early. We were up at 3;45 a.m. so we'll sleep well tonight.
JoyceK and her hubby have a lovely B&B here in
I guess I forgot to post this last night. I slept until 7:15 after going to bed at about 9. And I feel great this morning. Yippee!!!

Michelle I'm so glad you are feeling better
I just read about Apple in the posts above. It makes me sad and I will miss her although I know not as much as those around her. They are in my thoughts. She has inspired me to continue playing music more and to try to be more creative, as well as to look on the bright side. I know that she has improved the lives of many and left a legacy for many more who never even met her. I will pray for solace for her family and friends.

Michelle- Sorry to hear you are have such bad nausea I love ginger and it does help with nausea I didn't care for the candy ones but bought and still do pickeled ginger which can be found in most supermarkets . They have a restraunt here in waikiki called Indigo that has awesome ginger. Hope your having a fun time.
Waiting for my sister to pick me up for lunch and going to the ala moana mall. The night before last Sheraton had a huge party put on by Silapta it's silver jewelry, met a couple earlier that day that gave us a band to get into it, almost 2,000 people there and crazy fun they closed off all the bars and pool areas just for them they had rented 900 rooms they had lobster, crab, chocolate fountains and huge bubbles in the pool with people in it, took some pictures from my room after we came back up so will try to post them all when I get home. Dh says he hasn't decided yet when we are coming back we are booked till the 20th but told him I don't want to stay that long, so still not sure at this. Still havt seen my best friend that lives here she doesn't even know we are here I think I will pop in today and surprise her at work she has a place at the international market place where she does fake tattoos.
Hope all those not feeling well get better sending you all hugs.0 -
Went to lunch today with 3 other women from our Friday golf group. We figured if we couldn't play golf with all the endless rain, at least we could get together. I split a sandwich with one of my friends. It was grilled salmon and was very good. The side was fried sweet potatoes.
It has been pouring down rain this afternoon. Am not looking forward to going to New Orleans in this weather but you make plans ahead of time with no crystal ball.
Debbie, that sounds like quite a party.
Michelle, glad you got a great night's sleep.

Michelle- Glad you got a good nights sleep and are feeling well. I hope both continue for you.
Carol- Lunch out with girlfriends sounds wonderful! Glad you had fun.
Did bunches of stuff I didn't want to do today- grocery shopping, errands, cleaning, vacuuming and did my brothers books for his business. At least I accomplished a lot. Dh is working late tonight so the boys and I are on our own. They are always sad when I say Daddy won't be here and then happy when I tell them they can pick thier dinner. DS#1 has requested left over spaghetti and sauce and DS2 wants english muffin pizzas. I have no idea what I will have. I think maybe I will have english muffin pizzas too....

Good decision Laurie! And I love how you give the boys some menu power after their disappointment about missing Dad for dinner.
Have two meals to make this coming week for families dealing with surgery, and a relative death. Anybody have a "go to" menu for such meals? I am always too ambitious in my efforts and it could be easy peasy, I'm sure!
Maybe a hearty stew for one family(whose Dad broke his hand while sledding with their 6 year olds)and Italian for my Italian friend who had a death in the family? Over choice reigns again in my brain...
Still so sad about Apple.....She does not belong with all of the octogenarians I know who are passing over this week.0 -
Deborye,
I feel the same.... Praying for good news but, Just feeling so very sad today.....0 -
Lacey- Italian always reheats the best. Maybe stuffed shells or lasagna with a salad? Do a double batch of whatever you do and give it to both of them. They won't know and it will make things so much easier for you.
So, While I was making the english muffin pizzas I decided to make a quiche too. So easy. I had my english muffin pizza, bribed the boys with a cookie if they ate all their dinner and cleaned up all their toys:) Got them to bed and came down and had a slice of quiche. Yum.

Thanks Laurie. And you are right about the reheating factor. We had Italian leftovers tonight which were twice as good as earlier in the week.
I happened to buy eggplant today so could make a lasagna with that and some roasted veggies I froze a few months ago....so it will be a bit more interesting than my usual lasagna. I think you are also right about making the same thing for both families. Not sure why I always think to do things the hard way.
Loved the way you worked things out tonight......Smart Mama!0 -

OMGoodness Debbie You are having way too much fun!!
We were sooo bored last night I really needed to get outta this house. Went to new wine bar where the tasting lady was from France and a totally professional wine enthusiast. Tasted some wines from all around the world....but my taste buds are still liking the Finger Lakes varieties.
I am on board for 6pm...but really I think of Michelle and everyone else here all the time.

I am in for 6 pm tonight too.
I agree Carrie- I think of all of you all the time.
Debbie- They don't call it liquid courage for nothing;)

I'm in too. I know exactly where I will be at 6PM, so it's seriously logged in!
And, Michelle, I hope you will be just relaxing and feeling the positive energy wave at 6 PM.....0 -
I know things get busy with everyone on the weekends and slower here at BCO but, for those who haven't heard, the mods posted on Has Anyone Seen Apple? that she has passed away..... My heart hurts....

Apple is now singing with the choir in the sky, as she used to say.
