Bedo - Thanks for the youtube link.  Very pretty.  Not a traditional hymn.  I bet you don't "stink".  Thanks for the good thoughts about tomorrow's mammo.  Sorry about posting so late.  I had put off listening to the video as DH had a program on.  I wish I knew how to make goat cheese.  Night night.

Bedo, Dan Schutte music is always good. I bet you are very talented.

Have to tell you guys a funny bit. We were going out to dinner at a chinese restaurant with friends. We all liked that one. We got there and it was closed , and it would have happened very recently, as some of us had been there the week before. Well,we were set on Chinese, so we decided to travel to one quite well known about 45 min away. So we all got in one car and drove down. It was good, we had a lot.of good food, including my fave hot and sour soup, and of course we got the pi pi platter! LOL. Anyway, then we headed back to where we left the car, we took the longer way home cause we were just talking and laughing. but, we really broke.up and busted out when we saw the restaurant we were going to at first, was just two blocks away from where we left the car. We wouldn't even have had to travel all that way! LOL. So we continued on to where we left the other car, Sat and talked in the car for a bit. While we were sitting there, another car pulled up. The guy rolled down the window and asked us what happened to the restaurant. We were able to tell him it just moved down the road. I wish we could have seen his face when he saw it wasn't there! He must have placed a takeout order and then Twilight zone time, it wasn't there. Much laughter! so that was an interesting night even if we had to change plans quickly! LOL

Here's another picture of us - my diabetic blogger friend Sandi is on the left and she's quite tall, then shortie me and then Kathy with tall boots that make her look taller than me.  I'm barely 5'2" - Kathy might be a bit taller.  My friend Ann always manages to be on the picture-taking side of the camera.  We had a great visit.  I wish JoyceK could have been there, too, but it's a long way from West Palm Beach to Tampa.

We got home early yesterday afternoon and I think we've decided that next winter we'll spend a few weeks in the Marco Island area.   I am a beach lover and Marco's beach is fantastic and didn't feel crowded at all.  Even DH loved the beach - he's usually good for an hour or so but we spent about 5 hours relaxing on lounge chairs under an umbrella and it was fantastic.

I'm not even going to try and comment on everything that you ladies have been up to but it looks like everyone has had good days.

LOL...DH just saw the forecast for the next few days - highs in the teens and lows below zero.  His one word reaction - "pack"!!!  I wonder just how serious he is because I could be ready in 20 minutes!!!

Michelle  what a nice picture...love how your all putting your leg forward or your foot in like your doing the hokey pokey...ha ha

Florida must have been the place to be this past week.  I ended up taking some of my rigatoni casserole over to my friends house because they were just coming in from Florida late and I didnt want her to have to cook when she got home, also added a tossed salad and some bread for them.

Luvmygoats  I was just about to tell bedo the same thing...I am sure they have goats in Ecuador. Was at our feed store yesterday with my hubby and he was making feed for a farmer for his goats.  He had some really pretty corn grown from a local farmer...I love running my hands through it.  Then he adds all kinds of nutrient stuff, mixes it and bags it.

Bedo  love the video...and you play lovely..no need to worry

Haha Carrie I wish that were me in the video.  that was one I found on youtube that played that hymn.

*Susan* is the only real proffessional violinist here

I really am a hacker and only play for free

I have two dentist appts today Wheeeee!

Then I'm going to make that orzo salad

Michelle, you and Kathy look gorgeous!  So does Sandi I'm so envious of your trip!

Great picture Michelle and I must say, your new "hair" looks fantastic.

After yet another sleepless night my doc has prescribed an arsenal of drugs for me to rid me of this cough. I certainly hope so because my throat feels like someone hit it with a hammer and the thought of suicide has appealed to me more than once.

But since there is light at the end of the tunnel, I think we'll have chili for dinner.

    Yum! and Welcome Annemarie!

I'm not sure if Special K's salad is meant to be eaten warm or cold, but I will eat it cold.

I would love to see your recipe.

I am the worst cook here and generally make soups in my crockpot or oatmeal or veggies, or boil things, but some of these ladies are experts!

PS Debbie 6122.  I have finally caught up with your posts in Hawaii. You have been a bad bad girl. Yes, it is time for you to come home.  You are grounded.

    Bedo- you have me laughing!!!

Last nights food was great and everyone ate a lot.  We were disappointed with the outcome of the game- but congrats Kay :)  We let the boys stay up way past their bed time so we all took a family nap today mid day.  I don't know if they will sleep tonight!  Both boys were out for three hours where Dh and I napped for about an hour.  We are just going to eat whatever is left over tonight.  My fridge is filled with leftover everything, meatloaf, fried chicken, mac and cheese, pulled pork etc.  Seems stupid to cook something new from scratch.

My stupid ear is bothering me again and I have only been off antibiotics for a few days so I am going back to the Dr tomorrow.  I am SICK of it!!  We are getting snow tonight into tomorrow....should be interesting getting me and the boys to the Dr for my 11:30 appointment.

Carrie - we were told this is the "red carpet" pose...lol!  Nice of you to take care of dinner for your friends returning from Florida.  It's going to be "wicked cold" here for the next few days - temps below zero and maybe 6-10 inches of snow.  And I have to go out in it - MRI tomorrow morning and treatment on Wednesday.  Ugh, I'm ready to get back on a plane heading south!!!  I spent half the day looking at vacation rentals in Marco Island for February 2014.  Hope I can hold out until then!!!

Well everyone, STAY WARM! It's 1- here now. Wind chill is somewhere around -25. Yikes!

Made a bean and Bacon casserole. Yep, maybe not the best for me, but, warm filling, fairly cheap AND high in magnesium! LOL I could be really bad and eat a brat I have in the freezer....... Hmmm..........yep, its gone! LOL

Nancy, I hope that the meds from the doc do the trick and that you FINALLY get some sleep! I suffered through whooping cough (yes, you read that right) and can identify with what a severe cough can do!

Michelle, Beautiful pic of the 3 of you.... lol, on the 'red carpet pose'... DS's girlfriend just left for FLA yesterday and picked a great week to go! The temps are supposed to be ridiculous here this week too although I don't think we're supposed to get that much snow!

Bedo, Lol on grounding Debbie!! I'm thinking I want to party with her! I think we would have a blast before being sent to the 'time-out chair' the next day...lol!

Laurie, Hope that doc appt gets that ear all fixed up once and for all and that this is it for illness for you this winter! Sorry about the Pats!

Holy Crap, Moon! Those temps are just crazy although I remember them all too well! We lived in Rochester, MN for 5 years and until you have experienced it first hand, you just can't imagine what those temps feel like! Stay safe and warm!

So funny that so many of us are watching (and loving) Downton Abbey although I am jealous of those that got their DHs to watch, too! DH has no interest.. Maybe when we all get caught up we can chat about it. I checked to see if there was a thread on BCO for Downton Abbey and, while there isn't one to discuss the show, there is one that contains a big spoiler from this season... Soooo, for those catching up... If you don't want to know, don't look at that thread....

And last, but not least, Welcome Annemarie!!!!

It's 33 here and I am freezing. Tomorrow it's only getting to a high of 22. Brrrrrrr! My DS in Minneapolis only got to a high of -2 today. Yikes!

Made beef and veggie tacos yesterday. Used mt magic something or other that I ordered off the infomercial to mace the tortillas into a bowl. I don't know what I was thinking when I ordered that. Bedo you crack me up! I definitely am in the running for worst cook here. One of my DD's favorite things I make is Mickey Mouse chicken nuggets which I buy at Costco and just reheat. Tonight I made her boxed Mac and cheese and made a salad and roasted eggplant and peppers. I took her out to her favorite Indian restaurant fr their lunch buffet since she was off for MLK day.

Laurie, stupid ear is right! I hope you get relief soon.

Debbie, hope you are safe and sound in your own home and had a good flight. Might as well get comfortable there since you will apparently be stuck in the house for a while. (Bedo is a meanie. LOL)

Everyone, have a great night and stay warm! Bundle up when you go out Michelle. BTW, I loved the pictures too.

Michelle- I am so glad you posted that picture - it is so much better than the one taken with my phone!  And yes, lol on our "red carpet" pose.  I do have tall boots on - I am about 5'2" without the heels.  I am so glad you enjoyed Marco Island - sounds like I need to get down there and experience it myself!

The orzo can be hot or cold.  I had just made it so I gave it to DH hot with dinner, but he had some as a cold salad with a sandwich the following day.  I made some soup from a leftover rotisserie chicken and put the leftover orzo in it - it was delish!  I have a great cold orzo recipe that has greek salad stuff in it with shrimp - really good.

On the TV watching - DH and I watch NOTHING together except when I watch sports with him - our viewing tastes are polar opposites!

Dinner was leftover Duck Ragu with pasta, served with a huge salad. Expecting some snow tonight [already started] but I don't have to leave the house until Wednesday around noon. We will just hunker down. And play with a shovel.

looks interesting deborye.  I can see mushrooms and some kind of greens--spinach?--plus some kind of stems I cant ID, and it looks like it is in a phyllo shell. Is it a Greek dish? The link just goes to the cookbook, was it supposed to go to the specfic recipe?

    Busy folks here!

Loved the pic, Michelle and Special.

Hope you can get the sled dogs goin for doc appts tomorrow, any of you locals who need to! We already have a few inches of snow here....actually there may be less up North this time...and wow, it is really cold! I think we've been spoiled with such reasonable temps so far this winter.

Had a friend over for lunch today....we had my favorite chicken pastina soup, spinach salad with cranberries and slivered almonds, and fresh faux french bread, right from the oven. We were all nicely sated! Had eggplant "for darn sures" aka leftovers, and salad for dinner tonight. I did ask my sister about that expression, and she confirmed that it was just the softer version of "for damn sures" shared by my mother's Southern friend. Neither of us know what that has to do with leftovers. I think I'll abandon the expression for "jump ups"! :)

Laurie, it sounds like your family will be well fed with" jump ups " for this whole week! ;)

Deb, I'll happily take your DH's share of that "pie".

Welcome Annemarie! Looking forward to your and other orzo salad recipes. There is just something so sweet about orzo! Altho it can get pretty hefty in soups. ;)

I, too, like the pictures of the 3 of you.  It's nice to put some faces to the names/screen names.  Today the weather here made up for last week's "cold" (near freezing) weather.  It was almost 80F degrees.  Very nice.  Like I've said earlier, you can gloat when it's nearly 120F (50C) here in the shade and the pavement is so hot that it feels stickey....like there is gum on the bottom of my shoes.

Whooping cough!?!  I've heard folks with that. It doesn't seem like much fun.  The Tdap shot is much easier! :-)

Nancy, I suppose you could tell the doctor you'll stop by their house at night and ring the doorbell if you can't get to sleep! :-)  That might work...

Laurie, I hope the ear gets better soon.  I used to get swimmer's ear.  It drove me nuts...not that it was a very long drive!

Hi Annamarie.  Welcome from, as far as I know, the only guy on here.  I was looking around for info about Sharon's (my wife) chemo treatments and found my way here...and was welcomed.

Tonight's dinner was a ham with a "add vinegar to brown sugar until it's a syrup" glaze, a regular salad and some soda biscuits (as an experiment) taken from my mom's recipe book.  The experiment was a success...they are standard soda biscuits, but the recipe was a bit vague.... "Mix flour, salt, soda and baking powder as instructed.  Cut in butter until it looks like corn meal.  Add thick sour milk until a dough is made. Knead 20 strokes, no more.  Roll, cut and bake very hot for a little bit under 10 minutes."

Either I hit it right on, or the recipe is very forgiving.  :-)

    Eric

Thanks, Seaside.  The MRI shouldn't be too bad - I hear it's not as long as a breast MRI.  Chemo should be routine.  The worst of all of it will be going outside to the car - it's really cold here!

Michelle- Hope everything goes well today.  Stay warm.

    Hope everyone is feeling better!

Today is the anniversary of my mothers passing- 8 years ago.  Hard to believe she has been gone that long.

DS #1 was up all night with a stomach bug, DS#2 has a wicked cold and my ear infection is so bad I feel like I am going to tip over.  We make quite the family.  At least DS1 has not thrown up now in an hour and a half- so I am hoping to still make it to my Dr appointment.  I really need to make it my equilibrium is way off.

AWW Laurie  probably got some fluid in there.  I still do, but feel as if its getting better.  I can hear it crackling when I yawn.

Michelle  Good luck today...they really need to make fur lined patient gowns for this weather.  Hope they have the heat cranked up.

Eric great job on the biscuits. About the whooping cough...they are now saying that we should be immunized again as adults

Whoever grounded Debbie...did you take away her computer too?  Hopefully she is just resting and trying to get her mojo back to normal.

I made a blueberry pie yesterday with the berries I froze in the summer when the price was lower.  Yum with vanilla ice cream. Had stuffed pork chops before the desert with baby potatos and veges.

    Eric and Carrie,

Totally agree that, if you are able to, all adults and adolescents should get the Tdap vaccine (not to be confused with the DTaP)!!!

Unfortunately for me I had it back in 2004 I went back to college and up until 2005 there was no vaccine available for adolescents and adults. You can bet, when that vaccine came out both of my kids received it pronto as they were experiencing outbreaks here... Hopefully this booster provides the lifelong immunity that they thought the DPT series would.

I don't think I have ever been so sick in my life and literally thought 'this could kill me'... Started in February and it was June by the time the cough finally was gone with the worst of it lasting 8 weeks.... Wouldn't wish it on anyone!

    (((((((( Laurie ))))))))

Sounds like you are having it really rough! So hard to be sick yourself and still have to take care of little ones especially with the stomach thing!

Thinking of you today as you remember your Mother... Time goes by quickly but, in these cases it often feels like forever ago and yesterday at the same time....

    Sending you healing thoughts!

    Carrie,

    Blueberry pie sounds so good!!

    Lacey,

Did you give your recipe for your Chicken Pastina Soup? That sounds good!

Ooooooohhhhhhhh Debbieeeeeeeeee! Come out, come out, wherever you are!!!! Lol!!

Sending healing and caring thoughts your way Laurie. Enjoy some wonderful memories of your mother.

Michelle glad to hear your MRI won't be as long as the breast one is. Maybe you can ask for a little antifreeze to be added to the chemo. ;) It is such a shock to the system to return here in the middle of a cold spell after being in FL romping in the sun and surf.

I imagine that Debbie is feeling that same shock!

Carrie, I'm glad you mentioned your blueberry pie. I have blueberries we picked last August in the freezer.....better do something with them before they turn to freezer burned dots!

It's cold here too (for us anyway), 9°. The drugs seem to be working, I did manage to sleep (thanks to cough syrup with codeine) finally and my throat is very much better since I'm not coughing as much. My doc thinks it's bacterial, so she gave me antibiotics in addition to something else for the cough. Same thing happened to me last year only not this bad.

Laurie, I feel so sorry for you! You guys just can't catch a break!

I need to use the leftover rotisserie chicken, so I think pot pie is tonight's entree. I've felt pretty uninspired lately, but everone else's menus have sounded wonderful.

Hope everyone stays warm and comfortable!

Carrie, that's a good point about the fluid in the ears.  When my DD was a baby, she kept having problems with ear infections.  She'd go on antibiotics, they'd get better, but they'd come right back.  The pediatrician sent her to an ENT suggesting ear tubes.  The ENT said the reason she kept getting the ear infections was that she had fluid in her ears which was always there.  So the antibiotic would kill the infection, but the fluid would still be there and if fluid is just sitting there it is prone to infection.  The ENT put her on a teaspoon of Dimetapp (and she was just about a year old) a day to dry up the fluid.  He said he always tries that and usually it doesn't fix the problem, but sometimes it does.  It did in her case!  She may have had an ear infection since then, but it if so it has been very rare.  And she just couldn't shake them for more than a couple of weeks before.  It may be worth bringing up with your doc, Laurie.  I hope you feel better.

Thanks everyone for your warm thoughts about my mom and the thoughts on my dumb ears.  I just got back from the Dr and they are ordering a cat scan of my sinus'.  Because, yes, at the age of 37 they think I might need tubes in my ears.  Grrrr.

Eating a quick lunch of grilled cheese and going to take massive doese of C and D and an airborn and go snuggle with my germ filled boys for a nap.

Grilled chicken Caesar salads for dinner tonight.  DH's request, after all don't you grill when temps are in the single digits?

Vitamins helped a bit, so did the nap. With it being the anniversary of my moms passing and feeling like crap I think wine might help too.  DS1 is doing better as of about an hour ago.  Just happy he is drinking right now.

CAT scan is scheduled for 9:30 tomorrow for my sinus'.  We shall see....
