    Your dinners all sound lovely.

Carrie, congratulations on your designing eye

And Lacey on your cooking class

Boy you ladies (and guy) have been busy!

Tonight I am having panic attack served with stage fright

I have to play violin at Mass tomorrow

    I am not Catholic

I am also not a professional violinist.

Why can some people just not "Say No???"

I did have a lovely bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar, bananas organic cranberrys and milk from the Winter's Farmer's Market.  It was very tasty and cheap.

Every Saturday there is a Farmer's Market in my town.  I've been a few times, even did some Christmas shopping.

Deb, I think of you when I watch Downton Abbey. That fascinator is so lovely!

Bedo, good luck tomorrow.... You did fine before and will do so again, I am sure!

Loved your dinner selection....am particularly fond of oatmeal with such wonderful toppings, any time of day or night.....:)

    Lacey,

Just heard of Downton Abbey a couple of weeks back and am playing catch-up watching with my Amazon Prime membership! Just finished Season 1 and am part way through Season 2.... Just loving it! Such an elegant time in history...

Tried to talk DH into watching but it's just not his thing... Oh well.... It's my 'me' time and just soooo good! And while catching up, I allow myself 1 episode per day and I watch while on the treadmill so I figure it's good for me, right? lol

    Bedo,

The anticipation is the worst... Once you begin playing it will all start to flow and you will be fine! Will be thinking of you tomorrow!

Seaside, DH and I caught on to Downton Abbey several weeks ago and did just what you are doing...tho not in as heart healthy a way! ;( The bad thing now about being caught up is that you have to wait a whole (!) week for a new episode. I am actually surprised how many men are into this series....all the news anchors and morning show men talk about it.....tho who knows if that is their script for its marketing. My DH is as into it as I am.....every once in a while, out of the blue, he poses a question to me about a particular character's motivation for a specific dastardly behavior....so he's hooked too. But we need a new series to catch up on now that Treme is on hiatus, not sure what is happening with The Big C, and Breaking Bad and Madmen are a while yet to return. Such guilty pleasures! ;)

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip Debbie, I am so glad you got there. Have a safe trip home.

Bedo, good luck at mass today. I am catholic, I guess I better get my butt moving and get to mass myself.

Funny, I am just getting into Downton Abbey too! Some of the dance moms from my DD's group were raving about it last week. I have only watched two episodes from season 1 so far, but I think I am hooked. And DH has already been hooked and is watching again with me. I don't have any access to season 2 though :(. How does DH get into all these trendy shows that I know nothing about? Must b all the young people he works with. My DS is into some trendy shows, but they are either too violent or too crass for me. And I agree, Deborey would look so good in Downton Abbey. Your picture is very cool.

DD made pancakes for breakfast. I am trying to stay away from that, but also m very bad at resisting temptation.

Debbie- Safe travels home!  The cruises sound wonderful!

As the morning has gone along DH keeps expanding on our game food for tonight so he is headed to the grocery store with the boys right now.  I laugh when ever he does this as he always swears he will never do it again.  But my boys love the grocery store.  He took some sweet and hot sausage out of the freezer this morning, when I asked him why he responded with, you'll see.  I am thinking sausage subs?  I am going to make a mac n cheese for the kids, the pulled pork and some sweedish meatballs.  Our friends are going to come over in the afternoon and where the game doesn't start until late I have a feeling it will be an eating fest all afternoon.  Hopefully my brother and his girlfriend will join us.

Ok- time to get a few things done well all the boys are out of the house!

Just lost a long detailed post for the second time. Maddening! I have a chuck roast that I may turn into beef bourguignon if I feel up to it. Otherwise it will be plain ole potroast. I actually feel better except for this horrendous cough. The kind that causes people to move away from you quickly when you're out in public and start up. My throat is so sore just from coughing that I can barely talk. Anybody have any suggestions? Dextromethorphan isn't cutting it. I am going to email my doc today.

Nancy- Have you tried Robitusson DM?  It helped me a lot.

  • auntienance
    auntienance Member Posts: 3,904

Laurie, no but I've been using delsym and Nyquil, both of which are now ineffective. I'm assuming the DM is for dextromethorphan?

    Laurie08 Member Posts: 2,047

Nancy- I honestly don't know.  But when I was pregnant I got a really bad cold and could take almost nothing because I was pregnant.  This was on the short list of what I could take and it worked great so I still use it.

Nancy, DM is the best, but your doc can give you prescription strength DM.  If it's from post nasal drip and gets worse at night when you lie down, ask him to recommend something for that.  Guafenesin thins the secretions so you should cough less, but bring up more when you do, if that's the problem. Ask him if you can take that.  Then there's good old cough medicine with codeine, but he's not going to prescribe that on a weekend.  I hope you feel better!  Chicken soup???  Sorry you're not feeling well. :(

Honey & whiskey can work as a cough medicne.... Mix it in equal amounts and drink a pint.... Or skip the honey and drink a half pint. :-)

Dinner last night was actually a large Mexican food lunch. Then we went to watch the production of the radio show, "A Prairie Home Companion."

YUP Nance  I used just the regular robitussin, but they also have a robitussin nighttime that also helped me get through the night.  It only made a small dent though, basically just had to wait it out for the cough to be gone.

DH is much better, but not his mood..hmmmm.

SpecialK  Love the sound of that orzo "salad"  did you wilt the spinach first? I think I had a sald kinda like that with quinoa that was also very good.

Making spaghetti sauce with crumbled up leftover meatloaf in and gonna add it to some rigatoni.

Laurie  Ahhhh good practice for superbowl!!

Eric, you may be on to something. Maybe I just need a good old fashioned "hot toddy." Of course that's what I thought Nyquil was (10% alcohol)

For all you cold sufferers out there, I've found that Chinese hot & sour soup really loosens up the "gunk". Chicken broth, vinegar, garlic and chili oil are a "can't-miss" combination. And there is often a restaurant that will deliver it if you don't feel up to (or don't feel like) making it yourself.

carberry - I boiled the orzo until done, then sauteed the garlic, red onion, spinach, lemon zest in a tablespoon of olive oil.  Mixed in the cooked orzo, lemon juice, parmesan.  It was yummy, but I just had a taste - I am doing myfitnesspal so trying to limit the carbs.

Curveball, that's a great idea...the hot and sour soup....or even better, I wonder, the Thai hot and sour soup which always cleans my sinuses pronto!

Nance, my DH's cough finally cleared up this week, so there is hope for you soon since you weren't far behind him as I recall. He's happy to be back in the marital bed, sleeping like a baby.....me, not so much....happy, that is, ;) but still not getting the greatest sleep.

Gotta tell you that I was greatly disappointed this AM when DH came tearing up the staircase to announce that the irises really looked pretty sad, so I'd need to use the other flower arrangement (good thing I never tossed them!). So I checked, and yes the irises were either not blooming and looking unhappy, or bloomed with pathetic curled up petal edges. So I did a complete reassessment of what I had thought was a mish mosh arrangement, did a little redo, and up to church it went. I left it in the clear glass vase, which looked pretty as the sun glistened through the water. At the end of the service, several people came up to me to tell me how beautiful the flowers were...and I laughed to myself. I have to say, they did look okay from far away, which worked. Whew! Next time I will know not to select really fragile flowers when doing this.

Bedo, I hope your violin playing was successful....and not too anxiety provoking once you started. We are clearly our own worst critics!

So my guys are all off tailgating at the Pat's game with their many layers of clothing, etc. It's supposed to feel like 16 degrees by the later part of the game. So glad I am here instead...Am cooking up my mother's chicken pastina soup for a friend who is coming to lunch tomorrow. Also making chicken chili....for later this week, since the guys will roll in pretty late, and I am supposing will have been eating all day. They do elaborate tailgating (which I think is why DH loves to be included) with yummy marinated grilled meats, etc.

Laurie, your food fest for the game sounds like it is growing in the most tasty way. Enjoy your party!

Better get back to the stove...Enjoy Sunday afternoon everyone.

Curve, you're right about hot and sour soup. Unfortunately, our only Chinese restaurant makes a very tame version which is not the same thing at all. I could always add my own hot stuff though.

Lacey, thanks for the ray of hope. DH asked me this morning when I was moving back in (our bedroom). I told him I doubted that he would get any sleep with me breathing like Darth vader and frequent intervals of barking like a seal lol!

Take equal amounts of habanero peppers and *HOT* horseradish...puree in a blender....

Just eat one tablespoon...and what isn't used for the sinuses could be used to clean the oven... :-)

Gotta love your cold remedies Eric...lol if it doesnt kill poor nance it will make her stronger right?  Or stronger smelling!

Thanks specialK,  I somehow was thinking it was a cold salad, probably good either way.

Kay I too, will root for the ravens...just because at this point I go for the underdogs.  Dont really care as long as I get to see a good game that is close and has lots of drama.

DH and I "discovered" Downton Abby last year, season 2.  We watched all of those episodes and are watching season 3 now.  There was a really interesting pbs documentary on the actual home and the couple that live in the home.

Today's dinner was at noon at my mother's house, provided by me and my younger sister.  I cooked a pot roast with carrots and onions and made a tossed salad.  She made her signature mashed potatoes with cream cheese.  She and her dh also brought a king cake, our first of the Mardi Gras season.  I bit into the plastic baby!  So I'm supposed to buy the next king cake.

Darn.  Looks like Atlanta is going to lose their game.  I was pulling for the dirty birds.

Carole - I don't think I've ever had cream cheese mashed potatoes. Yummy sounding.  Love Downton Abbey.  Found it last year at Christmas when I was sick. Just put PBS on for something else and Masterpiece Classics came on and there it was.  Hooked ever since.  My only trouble is Dallas Stars hockey is on at the same time tonight.  No DVR in this house so will have to switch back/forth.  I do think Downton Abbey is on net later in the week.  I've been a verrry bad girl and read the spoilers.

Michelle and Special K - Glad you 2 got together.  Is this the 1st time?  Several Texas ladies were doing that this afternoon.  A little too far for me and have mammo at 8:45 in the morning so need to get chores done tonight too.

Stay warm those of you getting the cold blasts. 69 degrees here today but only about 50 tomorrow.  But I know winter is not over but can't find anything on web about more ice/snow for us.  Weatherman on one channel was hinting last night about 10 days out.

Give me that goat.  I'm not kidding.  All I've been doing is fantasizing about goats.  But how will I get it to Ecuador when I retire???

Mass went OK thanks to Xanax and Inderal.  I am not cut out to perform without other violinists.  It was at a Skilled Nursing Facility that had a chapel.  I hope they liked it.

I think I'm going to make that orzo salad.

Leaving for California Palm Springs next week, so I'm eating everything in the fridge.  I'll probably then go and buy expensive things for my friend who is staying here.

Bedo - I think you are lovely for playing there.  I admire anyone who can play anything.  What does one play for church music on the violin as a solo?  We have hired violinists for our Christmas musical and occasionally for our Easter one as well.  I could (note the past tense) play the piano a little after oh maybe 3 months of lessions about 50 years ago.  That is the sum total of my musical talent.

Goats - I bet they have them in Ecuador.  I'm trying to work up my macho to milk one this spring for real.  Understand milk prices on the rise due to grain prices from the drought.  Not that I won't have to feed her well to milk her.  Biggest problem is she has a nasty personality but a very nice udder and nice teats.  She is due to have babies around the first of March and is already quite round.  Had 3 of them 2 years ago; spit them out nicely/easily as her momma has always done.

Go on the Nigerian Dwarf Goat Association (www.ndga.org) page and find your state. Lots of breeders in New England.  These are knee high 60-90 lbs. Most of mine around 60 lbs. estimated.  I use big dog crates and a pickup though I have put a crate in my Equinox with the back seat down.

    This was the first one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLcVC3CoOVA  The violin comes in at about :56 but I chose to play a much easier part, basically, the tune with some added things.  There is a Nun who plays flute, one on organ, a singer and me. My idea of a 'solo' is people being able to hear me!  lol I stink.

I am not Catholic so I don't always know what to do.  I like the elders who live there

    Gimme some goat cheese.

    Positive thoughts for your mammo!
