So... Carrie showed us her new home, so I will show you near where I will be working and living for the winter.

Further South than I'm used to.
Well, that took me forever and a day!
But it will be winter most of the time so check out the mushers!
I had new lettuce and pear salad, and, butternut squash, black beans and cooked greens quesadillas for dinner out with a friend. I am feeling so much better and will finish my treatment in 3 weeks, about. I am already feeling stronger.
I will be making potato and onion soup for tomorrow with a bulb of fennel. I am craving greens, so I will have that too.
Susan, it's a 20-24 hour flight, broken up, what's the deal with bringing your violin as a carry on, I seem to remember some uproar. Although, as usual I probably won't practice, and am a hack.
Special K and all, I will be wearing long underwear in AK in case anyone is interested.

Colonial commando...
Hmm....I would imagine that where Bedo is going to spend the winter...on a windy day.... the practice could result in blue moons.....

Thanks eric, I needed a good chuckle!

Debbie: So sorry about the loss of your father. Sending you prayers!
I had good news this week...clear mammo and also didn't have to have my dreaded eye injection for the second month in a row.
In the process of moving from the mountains to the beach, so very busy. I'll catch up on this thread when I can...it's so active...sorrry I'm missing so much:(
Have a blessed weekend everyone!

Eric LAUGHING and getting a funny visual in my head!
Bedo those pics are gorgeous. I have always wanted to do the Alaskan cruise. My in-laws say it was one of the best trips they have ever taken (and they have been all over the world) So glad you are feeling better. I love the winter squashes, but never seem to get the motivation to cook any of them.
Bought all of the ingredients to make a big pot of chili....bring on some good Sunday football!

We're going out to dinner tonight with neighbors. No cooking, no cleanup!

Jumping on the chicken fried steak bandwagon. No mashed potatoes, but oven roasted leftover salted potatoes. I will make some gravy for the cfs. We'll probably have to have green beans since the garden keeps spitting them out. Trying to use stuff up! I'm really really really looking forward to some seafood next week.

Eric, I don't know what SCD means, maybe some kind of digestion disorder?

Was watching The Chew today thinking of Michelle and hoping that she can still enjoy watching it! Someday when I get back to NYC, I'd love to go to the Kelly and Michael Show as well as The Chew....someday.....maybe if I hint around enough, my family will go to the trouble to get tickets for me.
I'm no good at follow through these days.
I have been wanting to make pan pizza (aka bar pizza maybe?), so last night before going to bed, I made the dough and left it on the counter in its bowl until today (no need to kneed). Then today I made a fresh batch of kale walnut pesto to use on one of the pies.
It was wonderful! I think my pesto may never be purely basil based again!
So on the kale pie, I added roasted red and yellow tomatoes (which were waiting around in the fridge for these pan pies to be made) and mozz cheese.
The second pie had a tomato sauce with an assortment of roasted veggies and two cheeses. They were a fun change. I'm not sure I have ever cranked the oven up to 550 degrees before! Love those caste iron pans for this recipe! Had my "go to" cuke salad with it since I was too busy doing hot oven management to make a leisurely garden salad.
My sister sent me an Eat More Kale.com bumper sticker...not sure I could do that!! Every morning and most evenings!
I am getting more anxious than she is about her buying this barn/house with all the critters. Am crossing my fingers that another option comes along......this one is such a huge project!
Carrie your house is lovely! Looks so relaxing.....
Can't recall if I posted last night....we had a nice visit with our sons' old pediatrician who had a children's health center named after him, and which is attached to the city's poorest public school. They totally service those kids all day with medical, dental and behavioral health services. Dr. Hass is 75 and semi retired, but makes the trip to the center every other week to work.....a wonderful man!
Afterwards, we met up with DS2 for dinner in Southie. The level of twenty and thirty something energy at The Lincoln (where he claimed the food was good, and it was) was almost overwhelming to my aging senses! I don't recall any concentrated "yuppie neighborhoods" like that in Boston when I was that age....maybe Cambridge, but there it was more mixed. Susan, you must see some of the same in 02143.
Anyway, we had a delightfully light calamari with aioli and hot peppers. The guys both had black and blue tuna, and I had a sweet spicy grilled shrimp and caesar salad.
Tomorrow evening DH is doing a DJ gig in JP, so I am going to meet a friend for dinner at a restaurant that promotes a farm to table menu. While philosophically, I love that, I always worry about an errant " weed" getting in my food selection causing me to get hives. Will be VERY careful with my choices!
Nite all....0 -
Lacey, im with you on the Chew. But if I ever get there the guest will be some weirdo with a book about eating out of garbage cans or something! LOL. Its a fun show and they really seem to get along pretty well. Not like the first year when I thought Mario was going to kill Daphne. LOL
Supper was looking leftovers. Tomorrow will be Cheeseburgers in Paradise in Madison. My DD2 is trying to pick out bridedmaids dresses and we are going to Madcity to look. My DD1 is up there and so is my DS2 so we will visit at CIP. Thats where DD2 wants to go after. Much love to all.0 -
I attended a cooking class today at a nearby kitchen ware store. It's a wonderful store and has a beautiful kitchen designed for cooking classes. There were six women including me in the class and the chef was an older Italian man. We got to sample home-made gnocchi and pasta made into cannoli and ravioli. Chef Paul did several different sauces. It was a lot of fun.
We got 10 percent off any merchandise we bought at the store and I took advantage of the discount.
I should make some home-made pasta for dinner but I'm feeling lazy after all that sampling at the class!
Maybe I'll make a pizza.

In the pizza vein, calzones here tonight. Assorted veggies and bits of meats and cheeses to use up. I cut an arm load of basil, which I brought in and put in a vase. It will last a good while, but there's still a lot in the garden.
We leave for the gulf tomorrow. I'm ready! Carole, I sent you a pm.0 -
Excited for you girls to get together, Carole and Nance. Have a great visit!

Supper was at Cheeseburger in Paradise. My DD2 wanted it after looking for bridesmaids gowns. Yum.
Carole and Nance, have a wonderful time.0 -
Carole, your cooking class sounded like fun!
Last night I went to dinner with a friend at Patriot Place since she lives near it. Lordy does that place have a zillion eateries! For a starter we had a delicious foccaccia with three different spreads to go with it....a garlicy white bean, an eggplant (sort of like baba ganoush) and a beet/bean spread that was oh so delish!
I had cod for my entree that was plated with a few interesting mushrooms and greens.
We split a dessert that was a frozen pecan nougat over a brown sugar wafer surrounded by blueberry compote. Yum! Making myself hungry here......
Another beautiful day in New England.
Heading out for my walk.....0 -
Arrived home yesterday to a house in chaos. The kid had two young children so she could administer the Wexler test for a class assignment. Her friend, the procurer of these children, was here with a MASSIVE and rather smelly dog. One of the children was coughing and sneezing. They took over the first floor of my house. Finding a spot to eat lunch was not easy.
Made dinner in spite of all this. Grilled lamb chops [almost finished all the lamb], little baby onion rings [husband bought onions at the Farmer's market], steamed green beans, and some corn. I think the end of the corn season is near.
I have sliced the rest of the onions, along with some supermarkets ones, and they are carmelizing in the oven now. I will make a Lyonnaise French Onion soup when they are done. Serving it with the two leftover chops from last night, lentils and steamed broccoli. Or maybe I will roast the broccoli. Haven't decided just yet.
The whole house smells like onions just about now.

Oh, such chaos to return to, Susan! At least a house smelling of onions beats it smelling like dirty dog! Hope your family visit went well.
Managed to get distracted as I was headed out before. Now I really will go for the walk and maybe hit the Farmer's market on way home.0 -
Susan, I actually miss chaos like that. Whats wrong with me? LOL I actually made the mistake of trying to dry onions. Oh man the house reeked of onions. For a week.
Lacey, after the rsin we had yesterday, it turned into a besutiful day here. Gorgeous day. Enjoy your wonderful weather. Much love to all. Thinking of you Michelle.0 -
baked chicken with bacon and cheese, pasta and corn.

Had a great long walk, ending at the Farmer's Mkt. uptown, where I met DH. A lot of local baked good vendors peppered the booths, so we just had to buy some delish giant ginger cookies! All that walkin' ya know!

Bought some steak tips from the meat guy to have for dinner. Marinated them for grilling, then had a caprese salad over lovely fresh red leaf lettuce, corn on the cob, and candy cane beets over the sautéed beet greens with garlic and diced tomato. I have developed this obsession about needing to use the beet greens whenever I buy beets...they just seem so healthy!
Garden G, I hope you are okay...saw some awful footage of serious rains in Washington.0 -
DH's stress test results came back "abnormal." He is scheduled for an angiogram on Tues. morning. So it's unlikely that we will get over to Biloxi while Nancy and her dh are there hitting the jackpot at the casinos. I hope we can get together on her next trip. DH and I are hoping he qualifies for another stent to address his blockage problem.
I was up at 7:30 this morning and started peeling potatoes. I made potato salad, macaroni and cheese and baked chicken thighs for Sunday noon dinner at my mother's house. I also made a simple green salad, but the carbs were more popular. My oldest brother and his wife, his son and his wife and 8-yr-old daughter were there. It was a nice day.
I've been wanting pizza. I'm thinking that tomorrow night we will have home-made pizza for dinner.
Warm thoughts of Michelle.

We bagged the lamb chops. Soup, lentils and a little broccoli was the perfect meal! [Note to self: when having something with cheese, no meat needed.]
Ended up making the kids a mac/cheese and a ham steak. They needed an assist.

All this food sounds so yummy! Had a pretzel bun and brat at the Buccaneers game mid-day - just had chopped vegetable salads with some chicken breast for dinner.
carole - hope things go smoothly for your DH, my FIL has done the stent thing - worked great for him, and was a problem-solver.

Carol hoping it works for your DH. Pizza sounds good.
Tiday I had leftovers in stirfry. AND a cob of corn. Yum. Since I usually have an issue with the D I dont eat it often and I wanted it while I could still get a fresh cob. Double yum. Even if I have to stay home tomorrow its worth it! LOL0 -
Chicken, rice and beans tonight. And the sourdough is baking the oven.

Lovewins I had taste changes so the only things I could eat were, unfortunately, white things. Mashed potato. Baked potato. White cheese, swiss or aged cheddar or mozzerella. Toast with jelly. Chicken soup. Biscuits and gravy. Sweet potato baked worked. Not the best diet but I could hold it down and swallow and the taste was passable. I stayed away from most veg as I had diarrhea from tx. Much love
