I made Fried Green tomatoes for lunch today they were so good~ lightly dusted in flour ( if i have self rising flour on hand i prefer that)   Dip in egg whites, then in a crumb mixture of cornmeal and breadcurmbs and a little parmesan cheese- fry in peanut oil or veg oil , (season tomatoes with salt and pepper, a little pinch of oregono before coating in flour)

Tonight Im making a chicken, corn, cherry tomatoes, and zucchini in a cream sauce served over pasta

Laurie- How are you doing? I have been thinking about you, hope you are ok!

Ahhh....Coke....welll, Diet Coke...I actually managed to drink a whole can today over the course of a couple hours, and I think the Pepcid is working.  We had hamburgers for dinner, then I had a mini ice cream sandwich and some grapes.  No heartburn.  That is major-league progress!

    Bedo - good luck tomorrow!

Laurie - hope things are getting back to normal at your house and you are OK.  I think I'd be permanently traumatized if it happened to me!

Carberry - hope you're feeling better today.

I'm going to try to post an update, you are all so sweet thinking of me and your offers for help, thank you! So I'm typing this via phone... During the storm the boys and I headed to the basement because they were nervous. We had a ceiling light out that I went to change. As I was changing the bulb lightning hit our chimney. It knocked me back a few feet along with my youngest son, to the floor. I couldn't even begin to understand what happsend. ost of the electrical in the house is melted. Our water system ended up exploding and we had a foot + of water in the basement. The whole chimney exploded, bricks broke the pool pump, bricks in the pool. It goes on and on. But we are all ok, got checked out at the ER, etc. Very thankful. Also, very freaked out. Who gets cancer and stuck

Wow, Laurie!  I cannot begin to imagine how frightened you all must have been!  You are all so lucky not to have been injured!

Are you in temporary housing or is your house habitable?  I hope your insurance company has put you in something nice and family-friendly!

    Hugs,

Laurie, that is absolutely terrifying.  It is amazing that you were able to stay calm and think clearly.  You are in my thoughts.  I echo what the others have said.  I hope you are somewhere comfortable.  I was just thinking just before school starts too, but your boys are still too young for school?  Keep us updated and know we are thinking of you.

I love breakfast for dinner too.  Going to be having a bowl of raisin bran in a few minutes, but it will be for breakfast this time. And chocolate cake is even better, but I'm trying to be an adult now.  Blah!  What BC will do to us!  Had some more of the eggplant parm my sister gave me yesterday with some broccoli that DH made.  He tried it a different way.  He blanched the broccoli and then mixed it with a quarter cup of oil that he had boiled with garlic, red pepper and salt.  It was good.  I think he overdid the red pepper a little though.  He tends to have a heavy hand with the "hot" stuff.  I have grown used to it though and started to like things pretty spicey as well.

It's funny how many people like breakfast for dinner.  I'd rather have lunch or dinner for breakfast!  I love having a BLT (which is a little of both, I suppose) and I'll often eat leftover waldorf salad for breakfast.  I'm not a big fan of most breakfast foods because they tend to be high carb and most of the time, I try to keep to a lower carb diet.  I've become a big fan of plain Greek yogurt with berries, or apple slices with cheddar.   Sometimes I'll eat my leftover restaurant dinner for breakfast - it's usually meat and veggies so it works well for me.  But, if I really want a cheat, I'll eat half a bagel wth cream cheese or the blueberry muffin I'm going to have for "second breakfast" in about an hour, after which I am going to get off the couch and try to do a little laundry and cleaning.  We are hosting our grandson's birthday party here on Sunday, weather permitting.

Kay - I like spicy things, too, and I can make really good grilled Buffalo chicken legs. But I can't eat any of that stuff at the moment - just too painful going down.  DH is learning to back off the seasonings when he's grilling my meat.  I actually threw away a bottle of spicy hot Montreal Seasonings after he doused my steak with it, once again!!!

I am better today,  Sunday I slept all day, weather was cold and nasty, so took advantage and stayed home and rested.  i dont usually have this response to herceptin, but  I think I was just way overtired from all the summer activities. Only 3 more to go!

Laurie   so glad you and the kids are ok.  the clean up must be a nightmare though.....maybe collect all those bricks and use it for edging on a new garden...you can call it the lightning garden.

I worked the nightshift for 10 years and breakfast was always in the middle of the day and dinner was at 7am  glad i'm not doing that crazy mixed up schedule aymore. tonight will be simple BLT's

Debbie  no I didnt, was out mowing the lawn, but my daughter in NYC felt it and was evacuated from her building.  My DH also says he felt it at work about 20 min from our house.  Scary for those in the city as they never know what is going on, or whether its another attack.

I am in "redecorate mode"  Trying to do my sons bedrm a little differently, just scored a depression double bed frame from the local junk man...he has barns full of stuff but is getting older and doesnt display it outside anymore...I dont think he knows what is in his barns anymore, but he found a bed for me, I was gonna just get an old bed and paint it black but this one has fabulous wood, so will just keep as is.  Anyway the whole point to this story is that I am done in for the day...so guess we will just do tomato sandwiches for dinner.

Debbie - I've been to Paducah, and to the Evansville casino!  We wandered away quite a bit when we lived in the KC area!   And I am feeling pretty good, I think I finally got the worst of the heartburn under control.  I went to the grocery store and the drug store today - not too tired after.  And I agree with Carberry - we need to see the pictures!

Carberry - great score on the bed!  It's so fun to find treasures like that!

DocBabs - your mussels dish sounds like something I'd normally love to eat.  Can't go with the spicy marinara right now.  At least I can eat my own homemade meat sauce - lots of garlic, onion and basil but no heat.

By the way, Barbara, congrats on getting through the exchange!  I caved today and made 3 appointments for the rest of my fills.  The chances of me having DIEP are so slim, but I'll fnd out more on 9/13 when I have my next appt with the Plastic Surgeon.  If he thinks I have a prayer of having DIEP, I'll have him give me a referral.  Otherwise, I'm going to fill up these TE's and get on with it.

Fearless_One - hope you're getting your energy back.

I have a computer again!  Yaaaay!  Things are looking hopeful around here.  We have been staying in the house the whole time.  We had water most of the time except for a couple of days and half of the electric was working, now most of it is. Today was another busy day.  My husband took the day off to help me out with all the contractors etc.  Today we had the cable company, Ins. company, plumber, electrician, contractor, water purification guy, (we had radon issues and it filters all our water and had exploded)mason, pool company and servepro come visit us,  Insane huh?  But we are on our way to fixing things.  Michelle, you are right, what a mess!  It is going to take me months to go through all the contents of the basement and figure out what we lost. When the cable guy was here he just kept telling us what was fried.  We had a tv, wireless modem, a computer, our phones- all junk.  My dryer needs to be looked at too as it is no longer really drying.

But I am happy we are all ok and in the end we finally got the basement cleaned out, not the way we would have wanted but, ohwell.  The insurance company has been WONDERFUL not questioning anything and just ready to pay which feels like a miracle.  We have to actually have our whole roof replaced due to damage.

We are going camping this weekend as planned on a lake which should be fun and it will be nice to get away from the house and the stress of it all.  I need to get back inthe swing of things.  We have been so busy trying to fix things we have been eating whatever is easy.  The kids have loved that!  Personally I am sick of pizza, we've had it three times since Friday, usually we have it not even once a month.

Thank you for all of you thinking of me and saying prayers.  Perhaps that is what has given me the strength to keep sorting through things when I just want to sit down and stop.  Despite everything so far I am just thankful for everything.  My neighbors, family and all of these people and companies who have been so helpful, coming right out to help us.  Our pool is fixed, water is fixed and electric half done and it;s only Tuesday!  Hurray!!

I hope everyone is feeling well and had a great day :D

And for those of you that things are not so well, hoping for a change tomorrow

    Tonight's dinner:

    1/2 a watermelon

Seasalt and olive oil almonds (whole can)

Errrr I'm beginning to think I'm not very good at this

Spiced with bit of an attitude after rads planning

Laurie you have a wonderful outlook. It will get you through this. It sounds like you are already a good way towards normal. Keep us updated and your family will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

carberry great find on the bed! Wish I had some place like that here.

Michelle sorry to hear about the diep. I think I actually would have chosen implants, but they were not an option due to needing rads. I got one of the four drains out today though. Yay!! I think I'll be getting two or maybe all three of the rest out on Thursday. We were actually in the car on the way home from hospital where drain was removed when we felt the earthquake. It apparently registered 5.8 here. Being in the car, we felt the car shake, we bjth thought it was some kind of rough idling or something with the car. The building we had just left got evacuAted for about 30 minutes. It seems like thAt was pretty much the story in Philadelphia.

Debbie your trip sounds like lots of fun. Enjoy it and then tell us all about it.

Pizza for dinner tonight. My oldest friend came over with it.
