Geez, Deb...you're passing very near Joyce and me! We are less than 20 minutes apart. She's in Hudson and I'm on the Windham/Salem line.
Ick on the cigars!

Love the pics everyone. Michelle, I love staying in B@B's, really cant wait for my husband to retire. We own our own business, open 6 days a week and my DH works 24/7 , even on Sundays....we have not had a real vacation since the kids were at home, about 6yrs ago!
So we went boating yesterday..the sun was warm..and my DH got in the water..YIKES it was cold. We drank some wine (my DH a little more than me) and when we got home he locked his keys in the car. Ha ha love when he does dumb things like that...gives me a little wiggle room for when I do dumb things!

I agree love the pics. Imagine if all women everywhere stood up and took control of the remote? I am sure a few would have a heart attack if they couldn't hold onto it!
Last night we had ham and cheese and rice, it was so yummy. My husband was very happy with his dinner after eating garbage all weekend. I'm hoping to make either meatloaf or pot pie tonight for dinner. I woke up this morning feeling horrible, sore throat, head ache and achy all over. Both boys have super runny noses and I think have it too. Although they don't seem to feel as miserable. I took 1000 mg of vitamin C and I am going to make some chicken noodle soup to have for lunch, I think we all need it. Hopefully between the vitamin C, some homemade soup and a nap woth the boys this afternoon I'll feel better.Yucko!

Icky Laurie! Kids do spread germs!!! I was much healthier after they all got out of school!
Speaking of pictures, I just took a trip down memory lane picking out photos of my son who's turning 40 on 10/1. His SO is having a surprise party on Saturday and I told her I'd give her some pictures. OMG, too funny! The party has a 70's theme and these pictures will certainly reinforce the concept of leisure suits, Star Wars, etc. And while I was picking through all these pictures, I found a four-generation picture of my great-grandmother, my grandmother, my mother and me. I was maybe five or six months old. You would not believe the hair...I can only hope that once chemo is over, those "strong hairgrowth genes" take over, I could have record-setting growth if I am lucky.

Carrie- I'm with you on that one, love when our DH let us know they are human once in awhile LOL!
Laurie- Hope you and the kids feel bette soon, i just got over being really sick with pnemonia, one of the worst cases i have ever had, its going around, I started taking a lot of zinc the last few days and it helped I think.
Michelle- Love the picture of all 4 of you, so cute.
0 -
Michelle- I agree, love the picture! Fingers crossed for you that your hair growth gene takes over too!
I made my chicken pot pie and manages to function pretty well today. Thankfully the kids went easy on me. I made it clear this morning that we were all sick and there would be no fighting. They took pity on me, thank God!
There have been different things going on in my life lately that has had me thinking. I had a friend pass away last week at the age of 35. I hadn't seen her in years, and she drank herself to death. She passed from liver failure. I had another friend, from high school diagnosed with stage II BC, she is 35. So I started looking through old photo's and thought I'de share something kind of nice and weird with you all. (you might think I'm nuts!!)
The day my mother passed away there was a huge snow storm. My brother who does photography went for a walk after and took a bunch of nature pictures. Just to get out of the house and kind of deal with things. he took a handful of pics and sent them to me. He titled only one and called it "Still Here". When I looked at the picture I called him right away and told him it was eerie, why did he do it? (He did a project a long time before of combining two photos sometimes putting peoples faces in tree trunks etc.) He had no idea what I was talking about. I described to him where I could see my mothers face in the water, and then he saw it too. I asked him why he titles only that one picture and he said he didn't know, he just did. whats weird is that women see her face right away while men take longer.
Like I said this is kind of weird, but kind of nice too. I'm going to post a picture of me and my mom so you know what she looks like and the nature picture. Can you see what I saw?

How can you post pics here, I don't know how.

I made whole wheat penne pasta with spinach and beans from the pink ribbon diet book, I just started the eating plan today. very tastey. Before today, I never cooked much with olive oil. It really brings good flavor to things :O)

Tacos of dinner with chocolate mousse yum!

Laurie so sorry you are not feeling well Yes, when the kids are in school the germs become rampant...always have them wash their hands when they come inside the door at the end of the day. i used to tell mine to wash before lunch at school too ...dont think that ever happened,,,but a mom can try right? Are your kids even in school yet? they look young in the photo.
Debbie pnuemonia? thats tough. I wonder if the docs are recommending flu shots or pnuemonia shots for us ca pts? Last year , as health care workers we were highly encouraged to get a flu shot, but i was going through chemo and could not get one, not so sure I beleive in them anyways, have never gotten one. I have always been healthy and felt if I did get it my body could fight it. Ha Ha little did I know!
Michelle very cool pic.
I did one pan chicken and rice last evening, had fresh sliced tomatos on the side. tonight, not so sure what the plan is

DH made boneless fried chicken tenders (from scratch), mashed pots and buttercup squash with apples and cinnamon (with a little supervision from me). Quite impressive - his cooking skills are getting better and better. This morning he whipped up bacon and eggs. I think he's trying to fatten me up...lol!
Debbie - pneumonia...yikes! That had to be rough! I've had bronchitis dozens of times in my life, but I have not had pneumonia since I was a young child. Glad you are feeling better!
Laurie - hope you and the kids are on the mend this morning. Nothing like homemade chicken soup to make you all feel better.
Deborye - I have had luck posting pictures by using the copy/paste function. Right click inside the picture and then select copy. Then click in the text box, right click again and select paste. Interestingly, it doesn't work every time. But I always try it first. You can also click the little tree icon in the grey area above the text box and then paste a link to a photo from some place like Picasa, Shutterfly or Flickr.
Thanks, all, for the compliments on the picture. I am impressed at how well these old photos look after scanning. I have thousands of old pictures...it would be a lifetime project to get them all into digital format. But I need to do some of them so my kids have them.
Not sure what dinner will be tonight...maybe we'll go use some of those gift cards that our DHs won in that golf tournament last Saturday.

Love the pic Michelle. It is so cool to have 4 generations of women in the one photo. Both my grandmothers had died before I was born, so I really appreciate pics like that.
Debbie, sorry to hear of the pnuemonia. It sounds like you are recovered now? I hope so. Laurie, I hope you're feeling better. I definitely used to get the colds my kids had when they were younger too. It seems impossible not to. Washing hands as often as possible is the best advice any one can give I think. My DD carries around hand sanitizer with her now. It apparently is a "cool" thing to do. Bath and Body Works sell small bottles that can be hooked on to a purse or back pack or lunch box or such. And they come in different scents. Some even seem to be aimed at boys.
Met a few friends from high school last night for dinner. Had chicken quessediallas. I know I butchered that spelling. Probably not the most healthy thing, but the conversation was good.

Zumba- Good luck with your new pink ribbon diet!
Carberry- What is your one pan chicken and rice recipe?
Michelle- Your dinner last night sounds really good. Everytime I amke my kids pancakes I think I should try the chicken tender recipe on the back of it.
Debbie- I hope you are all better now!
I am a little better than yesterday. All three of us were pretty pathetic. We laid around and watched cartoons pig piled on the couch with a box of tissues. With the kids doing that gross kid sneeze thing- you know where it explodes and hangs? Gag!! We had the pot pie for dinner last night. No one ate very much. I didn't have much of an appetite, the kids didn't seem to either. My DH spent the afternoon in Boston watching the Red Sox game and I think he had filled up a bit on sausage subs, hot dogs and beer. Ohwell, I did my part and made it despite feeling yucky.
Tonight I am making meatloaf and mashed potatoes. I am craving it and looking forward to it. It's so dreary here today, perfect weather for it.
The mason starts to rebuild our chimney tomorrow and he said it will take him a week to a week and a half. I'll be glad when it is done and I know I can light my wood stove if it gets chilly. I suppose it's time to start thinking about winter...sigh.
I don't think I ever posted a picture of what it looked like after the lightning strike?
I hope everyone has a great day!

Welcome back, JO-5. Love the new diet!!! Maybe it would put a little padding on my meager butt...lol!
0 -
Apple- thanks, once again for the smile!
Jo5- that is one heck of a "diet"!
0 -
Yup, meager butt is genetic in my family...lol. When my son was little, I bought him extra-slim pants, he wore a belt, and he could still pull down his pants without undoing the belt, zipper, snap, etc! He wasn't that thin...just suffered from meager butt!
I am diabetic so I'm afraid your diet might send me into diabetic shock!!! But it sounds good, especially the Snickers bars!
Lunch was clam chowdah and a garden salad with good blue cheese dressing. Supper will probably be some leftovers. We need to clean out some stuff! Unless DH comes down from work and says the word...pizza!!! Why does that sound good tonight? I'm not going to tell him, but I won't deny him should he bring it up

OOOOO, let's go apple pickin
0 -
I love grapefruit but since I have to take Simvistatin, grapefruit is not allowed.
0 -
There is an apple orchard five minutes from our house. They make great apple pie, although I'm ready to try Deborye's Swedish Apple Pie! I heard it's a bumper crop this year - perfect weather for apple growin' and pickin'
I have a crisper full of Macouns!
0 -
Macouns are my absolute favorites. I haven't seen any in the stores yet.
0 -
I made another dish from the book I am reading, and tonight it was corn, blackbeans, rice, and italian flavored tomatoes sauteed in olive oil. It was very good.
0 -
Zumba- that sounds pretty good! Can you clarify Italian flavored tomatoes?
Ok and I am going to show more ignorance here....what the heck are Macouns? Must be an apple but I'vve never heard of it?
0 -
The canned diced tomatoes, that have Italian seasoning in them0
-
Jo- So good to see you again, Hershey kisses is right up my alley, I think i have been on this diet for awhile too LOL!
Joyce- Pork roast sounds really good, enjoy your evening in your pjs
Laurie- Dont feel alone i have never heard of macouns either, i know there are many varieties that i probably never have heard of. Your chimminy looks scary/ How are you and the boys feeling?
Was in the middle of making steak sandwiches with garlic fries tonight when a friend called and wanted us all to go to dinner, i said sure why not, put away what i started, had fried clams tonight and they were tough, first time i got a bad meal at this place we go to.
0 -
Debbie- I admire the fact that you put the stuff you were cooking away and headed out with friends. I am anal and would have said we had to take a rain check as I had already started dinner. Sorry you got a crappy meal.
Joyce-I hope your husband has another great dinner waiting for you too! Hope your day at work goes well!
This cold is dropping into our chests. I had been hoping that we might get outside and go to a park today and meet friends but, the weather doesn't look like it's going to cooperate and we really shouldn't spread our germs. My almost 4 year old was up coughing most of the night. I probably got about three hours of sleep the whole night between feeling crappy and helping the boys deal with their own issues. So I am looking forward to nap time! Hoping this thing passes quickly.
Hope everyone slept good and has a great day lined up!

Laurie - time to stock up on Mucinex! Hope you and the kids feel better soon and get some rest. It is nice and sunny this morning.
OK, well I've only seen Macouns here in NH, hadn't eaten one in more than 20 years. This apple orchards has a few varieties that I had never heard of...the first batch we got were Mollies!
It's a cross-breed from a Macintosh and Jersey Black. The flesh is a snowy white sometimes tinged with green, fine-grained, juicy, and very crisp. Macoun tastes wonderful--a nice
sweet-tart balance with hints of strawberries, plus spice and floral notes. The Mollie is another cross-breed that includes lines from the Gravenstein and Golden Delicious. Tasting notes: Crisp creamy-yellow flesh, more coarse-grained than not, delivers a mild flavor
that is sweet but not cloying, with a hint of lemonade. This satisfying apple went down very easy. The very start of the first few bites hints at a bit more complexity--berries perhaps? but this impression is quickly overwhelmed by the sweetness. My next trip I will pick up Honey Crisps - really, really like those and we were able to get them in the Midwest.
Debbie - I've had way too many tough clams in my life. Now when I order them, I specifically ask that they not be over-breaded and over-fried. So many places cook fish and seafood to death!
We did go out for pizza last night, so now there are more leftovers in the fridge. We'll be eating a smorgasbord for lunch today!
I have my appointment with the radiation oncologist this afternoon. Should be interesting. I am not convinced that this local RO office will have experience with someone who has already been radiated with Mammosite. But we'll see...
Hop everyone has a great day!

Laurie sooo sorry you guys are going thru this:( rest and drink tons of liquids, till you think you will float away.
chicken and rice: I used drumbsticks and thighs and seasoned with salt, pepper, paprika, and cooked on both sides in deep fry pan till golden on both sides, added some saffron flavored rice, the water (chicken stock would be good) and some frozen peas put the lid on and simmer till rice is done and chicken is fully cooked. MY DH had such a fit, cause he really doesnt like dark meat chicken but I noticed he had seconds.
Jo 5 i like the sounds of that diet, I always keep some chocolate in the fridge for those urges!
Supposed to be gorgeous here today, going to marina tiki bar to celebrate BIL birthday, dinner willl just be hor derves (sp) and cupcakes.....LOL sounds kinda like jo 5;s diet.
zumbagirl I use those canned tomatos in everything very little calories and already seasoned, they are great added to spanish rice, but my favorite is just plain elbow pasta with the tomatos yummm
Have a great day everyone

i absolutely adore grapefruit - but can't eat it at the moment because of meds.
tonite/.. minestrone with ww garlic bread and maybe salad. I still am not driving (since my seizure) and this older lady picks me up and takes me to rehearsals on Wednesday so I invite her to dinner.
I am so much safer when driving myself but OH well.

Michelle- Being inspired by your DH I am going to make homemade chicken tenders tonight. Going to serve it with left over cheese and rice and corn on the cob. With the kids being sick they have hardly eaten at all in three days. I am hoping the chicken tenders help them find their appetite. I am making dinner as kid friendly as possible.
Apple- I think your dinner sounds great!
