Morning everyone,   Sat we did a restaurant, had chicken with marinara sauce over angel hair pasta, not sure what was up, but  only got through the salad bar and 2 bites of the pasta and was all of a sudden not feeling like eating.  i am 61/2 months PFC and I still get this way once in a while...like once every couple of weeks...what the heck!?  anyway had lots of leftovers for Sun night.

Michelle   I am getting the visual of the Sonny and Cher, cant wait for the pics and maybe there will be a recording of the singing?  Last year we did gilligans island (I was Ginger cause I had the big rack at the time)  We actually had a boat on a trailer that we pulled with a tractor and went around to all the local wineries, we all rode in the boat and sang the theme song.  What a blast.  This year us ladies are gonna be "the real housewives of Seneca county"  not sure about the men.

Today I am attempting an apple pie...gotta use up these apples.

Michelle--love the costume choice!  Couples costumes are so much fun. Would love to see the pictures! Sounds really cute.

Last year my husband and I went as Dog and Beth (the Bounty Hunters). The real joke was the foobs that we made out of extremely large syrofoam balls.  We carved out "room" for my real boobs, put on a cami and then placed these over the cami, put on another cami to cover the balls and a slutty leather vest, leather go-go shorts, and a long big over the top blonde wig. Seeing that I normally look like I stepped out a J-Crew catalog (pretty conservative dresser) this was quite a change for me. But fun!

As for dinner--salmon on the grill with grilled/sauteed golden beets, mashed eggplant, tomato basil salad and fresh corn.  Squeezing out that last bit of fresh summer mid-western area produce before its all gone.

corrine- mashed eggplant?  How do you do it?  (other than the obvious of mashing eggplant ;P)

I did a potato bar for dinner last night. I nuked the red potatoes, then had serveral bowls on the counter filled with cheese, olives, bacon, sour cream, ranch, and butter, It was very tastey Smile

I like to do a potato bar for lunch at our Senior Center.  It is the main (and for some) only meal of the day for most of our people. I serve it with chili.  For condiments I put out cheese, sour cream, ranch, butter, steamed broccoli, chives or green onions, sunflower seeds and tiny homemade seasoned croutons.  If there are leftovers from taco Tuesday Ill also put out taco meat and salsa.  It is one of the favorite meals.

My mom made it.  I will have to ask her, but it looked...well like steamed eggplant/overcooked eggplant and then mashed. :)

    Looked nasty, tasted great.

OK everyone, I'm sure there will be pictures!  Not sure if someone will record us, I'll see what I can do.  I've wanted him to do this with me for decades and I played the cancer card so he's not going to tell me no...lol.

Corrine - your costume sounds like lots of fun!  This is going to be a huge "stretch" for us, especially with everything going on.  As I was selecting the items, I was laughing so I can just imagine what my kids will think when they see us!  I had to pass on a real "Sonny" get up for DH because none of the costumes are his size.  That's OK, wait til he sees the wig and the psychedelic shirt!!!  I want to laugh all night long!

I went to the beach today, it was a perfect day!  I was even able to go into the water - it wasn't bone-crushingly cold!  Then I went for fried clams and clam chowder and now I am home suffering the aftereffects...lol.  Should not have had the diet coke and I would probably have been OK.  For some reason the combination of carbonation and fried foods is a big no-no.  So Tums to the rescue!  It was worth it, they were good!!

Michelle your day sounds wonderful. Minus the indigestion. So glad you got to enjoy it just the way you had planned. It's nice when things work out.

I am settled down for the Pats game, too.  Rick, on the other hand, is snoring in the recliner..lol.  His allergies are killing him!  I will grab something to eat later, not sure what he will want when he wakes up...if he wakes up!!!

we've been enjoying a gorgeous day here in NH.  Perfect temperatures and sunshine!  So we are going to play a little extra outside tonight and have a fast and easy dinner.  Taco's!  The kids are excited and it will be a fast cook and clean up for me, and I'll be honest, I'm a fan of them myself :)  Hope everyone had a great day!

Seaside- We haven't heard from you in a bit- I hope everything is ok with you and the flooding that was going on in your area.

Joyce- I LOVE fall, but am always sad to see summer go.  I ditched my chores this afternoon and went for one more dip in the pool and let myself dry in the sun.  It may be months before I can do that again.  Although I thought we were going to go into the 60's tomorrow, but it looks like the cooler temps will hold off one more day- so maybe one more dip!

Your DH's spaghetti sounds wonderful.  I make a good lasagna, but whenever I try to do my own sauce it is a disappointment.  Glad you enjoyed it!

Split pea soup is for dinner with fresh bread and peaches.  And, tomorrow, or the next day, barley mushroom soup with sherry in the recipe, both in the crock pot.  :)

Hi everyone!  I have had quite a day, to say the least!  First of all, let me tell you the sweetest words of all  "You are a candidate for DIEP!"  Yahoo!!!  And I already have an appointment scheduled for October 5th with Dr. Stephanie Caterson!   These boobs will be little, but they'll be "all me!"

So obviously I went to Brigham & Women's today for my appointment with my Plastic Surgeon...by way of Bedford, then Nashua, then B&W in Boston, then back to Nashua, then to Bedford and then finally back home to Salem...174 miles!!!  I have nothing left...lol...I am pooped!  Today is the second Tuesday of the month, the day my mom's musical group plays at the apartment complex where she lived for 14 years.  And I wanted her to be able to play.  So I picked her up early and left her with one of her friends while I went off to Boston.  When I got back, she was having a fabulous time, dancing around, playing her violin and she had the best smile on her face.  So while it was a bit grueling for me, it was better than any pill for her.

Rick cooked burgers on the grill and we sat outside and enjoyed the last of the daylight before the mosquitoes chased us inside. It's hard to adjust to such an early sunset...when we switch to standard time, I'm going to feel light-deprived!

Laurie - for years I have followed the OLD Mueller's Lasagna recipe. Try this sauce and see what you think. My only change is to add in some spicy sausage as we (normally) like the little added kick:

1 container (15 oz) ricotta cheese
    1 egg, lightly beaten
    1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    Meat Sauce
    (recipe follows)
16 oz. MUELLER'S Lasagne, cooked 7 minutes, drained
    12 oz. mozzarella cheese, shredded
In bowl, combine ricotta, egg and 3/4 cup Parmesan cheese.

In 13x9x2 baking dish, spread 1&1/2 cups Meat Sauce,. Layer 1/3 of the lasagne noodles, 2 cups sauce, 1/2 of the ricotta mixture and 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese.  Repeat.. Top with remaining noodles, sauce and cheeses.

Bake in 350 oven 50 minutes or until bubbly. Let stand 15 minutes. Makes 12
    servings
MEAT SAUCE: In 5-quart dutch oven, heat 1 tablespoon oil over medium heat. Add 1 pound ground beef, 1 cup chopped onion, 3 cloves garlic, minced, and 1/2 cup chopped parsley. Stirring frequently, cook 10 minutes or until beef is browned. Add 2 cans(28 oz each) crushed tomatoes, 1 6oz can tomato paste, 2 teaspoons sugar, 2 teaspoons dried basil, 1&1/2 teaspoon salt, 1
teaspoon dried oregano and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Bring to boil. Reduce heat, simmer, stirring occasionally, 30 minutes. Makes 7&1/2 cups

This sauce is my "go to" for any pasta, especially ziti or penne.  I will use fresh basil if I have it on hand.   And this lasagna gets rave reviews from my family and friends.

Chemo #7 of 8 is on for tomorrow! I can see the light! And so far, I've had very minimal neuropathy. If I am lucky, my worst nightmare will have been avoided.  We are kicking DH out so we can watch a chick flick and eat popcorn and candy!  And feed the nurses, too!

By the way, I saw signs of fall colors during my trek today.  It won't be long now!  Laurie - enjoy that last dip tomorrow!

Hi everyone!  Fall is right around the corner here too.  We had a gorgeous day here today as well, but you can feel that the cool temps are coming.  I too am sad to see summer go.

Michelle, congrats!  I know how badly you want the DIEP.  And I hope chemo # 7 goes well tomorrow.  Enjoy your movie and treats.

We had chili, corn on the cob and a spinach/tomato salad for dinner.  DH made the chili.  It was good!

    Have a great evening everyone.

Kay - thanks!  And glad your followup visit went well!  Chili will be sounding mighty good by the end of the week when the high will be just 60, even with sunshine!  Not sure I can eat it, though.  I might try making a mild version and hope for the best.  Maybe that will get DH to stop asking if we can go to a Mexican restaurant...LOL!

Michelle, when I make chili at the Senior Center I have to try to please people who can't handle heat at all and those who blacken their food with pepper and then dose it with copious amounts of Tabasco.  I cut the chili powder way down making it very mild, then add a good amount of cumin and a bit of oregano to boost the flavor.  Then I put out dried chili flakes and Tabasco so they can heat up their own.  I get no complaints and rarely have leftovers.

That's a good idea, Chabba!  I usually put in a generous amount of chili powder and some jalapeno slices.   So I'll just cut back on the hot stuff and let DH "fix" his as needed.

    Laurie,

My family and I are doing OK but sooooo many here are not! I will say this, the people in my community are just amazing! The stories coming out of this of just the sheer will of the human spirit in the face of such devastation AND the enormous heart and compassion from those in a position to help are tuly an inspiration!

My daughter was supposed to start her student teaching semester at a local school district last week ( she is studying to be a biology teacher) but, with the flooding, she has yet to start... She met up with the teachers from the district she was placed in and today, they cooked and bagged hot dog and hamburger bagged lunches and went into the neighborhoods where people were cleaning out to distribute the food! My son spent all weekend helping the grandparents of one of his friends clean out from having, not only their basement flooded but, the water so deep that there was 2 feet of water on the first floor! I am so proud of both of them! We are finally getting to the point that families are starting to be allowed back into their homes for better or for worseM

The situation here is dire but, we are a STRONG community!! We got through this 5 years ago and we WILL do it again..... One step at a time!

But, Enough about me! How is your recovery going after the lightening strike? That has to be SUCH a big mess as well!

    My son

So sorry to hear about all the problems being experienced in your area.   That is great that so many are there to help out though.  You should be proud of your daughter and son.  It is wonderful what they are doing.  I hope things continue to improve for all those experiencing such difficulties

Seaside - we are going to see The Waitress.  I had never heard of it, my DD found it on a list of top romantic comedies.

Deborye - I was just at Brown's on Monday.  Don't forget there's also fried lobstah, lobstah pie, lobstah stew, lobstah bisque...lol    Enjoy your lobstah

Michelle good luck to you tomorrow!  So happy for you that DIEP is an option! I can feel your excitement!!

Deborye- I don't care for lobster myself, but from what I am told from others- it doesn't matter how you get it- it's all good!

Seaside- I'm glad you are finding the good in all of it.  So much sadness for so many people, yet so good to watch others take care of each other, whether they know each other or not.  I know I was very thankful to my neighbors throughout everything we went through.  We have a ways to go to get things back to normal.  The mason is supposed to start the end of this week and the roofer next week.  I've gone through all the kids hand me downs and reorganized, now I have to do the toys, they had a play room down there and anything electronic is junk, I have to itemize it- ALONE- me and two boys going through 7 totes of toys just wouldn't work!!  So it will get done when it gets done.  I'm not stressing about it anymore, we'll get there when we get there.  Hopefully by Christmas.

I had a micro meal hormel manicotti, then had a snack session with snack hubby gone mad Laughing We had sea foam candy, licorice, chips, pudding cups and graham crackers, he kept going, and I popped a piece of gum in my mouth. I am glad I don't join him in his late night chomping very often, , WOW

Laurie, I'm amazed at your great attitude again!  This will serve you well no matter what you have to go through.

Seaside, down here in Philly, it doesn't seem like we have had nearly the problems your area is facing.  My yard has a big slope.  Rain runs down into the street, no problems with flooding basement or anything.  There were a lot of flooded streets that needed to be detoured around.  I am sure lots of people had water in their basements.  Nothing like your area though.  Hope things keep improving for you guys.

Zumba girl, wow, your hubby sure can eat.  I have a 20 y.o. son that can do that (not often, but sometimes), and he is 115 lbs and 5 for 10.  No fair!  But my brother used to be like that, but it caught up with him.  I wish I could donate some tissue to DS.

What a great topic!!! I just stumbled upon it when I was checking things out here.

I had a great dinner last night, went out to my favorite restaurant for dinner to celebrate my 14th wedding anniversary, and my 5 year anniversary with NED. On Tuesdays they have a "Losta Pasta" special. You have your choice of 5 different pastas, and 10 different sauces. I went for Pene pasta, with oil and garlic sauce, and fresh veggies. They weren't kidding when they said there it was alot of pasta, I brought home a doggie bag, and there's enough left over for dinner tonight.

Hi everyone   Michelle congrats on the good news....once my friends found out how the surgery was done, I always had lots of offers for tummy donations,LOL  I told them I had plenty myself and that I knew I was saving that fat for something   Who knew?

Well. this week has been the week from helll for me, was all set to go back to work, called my boss to set up an appt. with her to talk about me coming back and she says,"there is no job for you"  told me to apply for something else within the agency....I am a nurse>>>  so basically I am out of a job!  She had told me when I got sick, not to worry that she would always keep my job for me,  mind you I worked all through chemo, even during my sickest days, only took time off for the surgery followed by rads.  Uggg  time to get a lawyer? I am 53 and wanted to retire with this company, not to mention I love the kids I work with.

Hope everyone with cleanup from the storms is doing well, i know what a chore it is...I remember the flood of 1972 here in NY and cleaning my grandmas house...that mud and silt from the waters is impossible to get out of furniture and house.

That  tomato sauce is a lot like the one i make, my DH loves the meat in it...I prefer it without, but I do it to keep the dear hubby happy, and when we eat out I get just the marinara...love the chunky tomatos

Sorry this so long...off to find a new job!
