Colo-i had low dull ache back pain also. I was sure I would be one of the few that got ,ets while still on treatment. I worked every angle until my pcp ordered a ct of pelvis and abdomen to check on a stationary kidney stone and uterine fibroids. Everything was clear and I told the radiologist to look at everything carefully. When Ipicked up the cd to take to my urologist, she was there and made a point to come out and tell me that she looked above and beyond. Backache has finally gone away.I think it was tamoxifen or herceptin driven.
I had a lung xray and a full blood workup for the metformin study I got kicked out of, and that was all good. So....next week is one year when I was told to get a biopsy for micro calcs that were probably nothing. I have decided to try and look forward, knowing that for this moment, with the exception of knowing about my brain, everything appears to be cancer free.
Penny-good luck Monday.
Mdg-i read an article in breast cancer wellness magazine where a person wrote about the two versions of moving forward.....the one that we talk about to everyone, and the one that we see inside ourselves every day wondering whether we really are. That is exactly how I feel.0 -
Penny-thinking of you and hoping your surgery goesl well. you will top myprayer list tonight

My neck pain has been responding to high dose motrin around the clock. I think I strained something bad. I hope it goes away. I will keep taking the motrin and see how the next few days go. I spent the weekend in Indy with my BFF. We went shopping, to a wine bar, laughed and stayed up late....like a slumber party. I am so lucky to have her and so wished we didn't live 5 hours apart. I am grateful to have spent the weekend with her and look forward to her coming back for my nipple surgery (she is taking me to my surgery and staying with me for the weekend after!).
Kay I am glad your docs are watching the heart issues closely. A low dose beta blocker can really be helpful and also act as a calming drug....so if you have any anxiety it can help for that too. Most have minimal side effects on BB's (I use to sell beta blockers years ago). Let us know how it goes on the new meds.
Fluff: I agree with the two versions of moving forward. This will certainly be a long road for most of us once all the surgeries and treatments are done. It's a process.....I am giving it time.

Mdg-i wish I had realized you were in Indy! We could have met! That's where I live.

Went to my onc today and she said i am doing very good. I will see her once every 3 months and redo my ct scan every 6 months for 2 years. I asked if I could get my port out and she said yes! So Dec. 13th is the day to do that, it is in office procedure. That is scary I thought it would be another surgery.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Hoping to hear from Penny also. Hope everything went well and you are recovering.
Good news KSMatthews! Good luck with the port removal.0 -
Has anyone else had port taken out in office?
0 -
Ks, jealous you get ct scans every 6 mons. My onc wont do follow up scans.
0 -
I am glad to get the scans, because of reassurance, but I hate to drink the nasty stuff and get the iv that goes along with it!
Ct is all she will do, I wanted mri, pet scan and all, for reassurance.

Me too. Back doored my way into a ct scan to check a kidney stone through pcp. Got a llung xray for the study I dont get to do. All clear. But I think thats it for me. I wont have a good excuse fore anything else for awhile unless i start making stuff up.

Thank you for all your thoughts ladies, I am now home, they wanted to keep me another day or so but I just wanted to get home. One drain is out, the other will probably be a few days. I have huge scars right across my chest and under both arms as he cleaned up the previous right mx. Very much like lilylady described for her. Its all flat now though as he has managed to remove the rock hard scar tissue I had from the radiotherapy so I am happy with the result.
They did a sentinel node which was negative, boob histology will be ready in a week, I am hoping this is the last procedure ever!
ksmatthews - good that the port is coming out - it means its all good.

Glad all went well Penny. I hope you are up and boxing soon!

Penny - Glad your surgery went well. I hope you are as comfortable as you can be with those pesty drains in.
Kay - I'm thinking of you and your heart problem. Do your doc feel it is directly related to the herceptin and is it reversable once you are done with the herceptin?
Ksmatthews - I wish I got ct scans every six months my MO is like Fkuff's he want do a follow-up CT unless he see something wrong with my blood work or if he feels something that don't feel right when he do my breast exams.
Mdg - I hope your neck continues to feel better.
Happy Thanksgiving to all my Lounge sisters...thinking of you all..

Hoping you have a speedy recovery, Penny.
Happy Thanksgiving to all in theUSA.
We are off very early tomorrow morning for a 2 week horseback riding trip to Florida. We go every year after Thanksgiving. It will be great to see old friends I haven't seen in a year.

Happy Thanksgiving for all you USA gals! Turkey is going in the oven soon! It will be smelling good in here in a while
Oh and thanks about my neck everyone. I am doing higher doses of motrin and it is about 95% gone. I guess I can rule out mets (you know how the mind goes there first.....). I don't think mets would respond to motrin.

ks...had my port out in September...the surgeon who put it in also said it could be done in the office but her schedule was booked so I went to outpatient surgery....be assured, there is nothing to it...I was awake for it and didn't need any pain pills after...
Take care...

I hope all of my American friends had a wonderful Thanksgiving! And I hope others had a great Thursday!
mdg: I'm glad your neck is better. Moving all of those boxes probably didn't help it!
penny: so glad you are doing well, and I hope the recovery is very fast.
jules: I hope you have a WONDERFUL trip! Celebrate!
Just yesterday Maggie Daley, the former first lady of Chicago, died from breast cancer. That has really hit me hard. She lived with mets for many years. It just gets me how random bc is and also how some people live for years and others are taken too soon. Sorry to be a downer. I wish all of us many many healthy years.

HI girls hope all you USA ladies had a wonderful thanks giving. Not much new going on for me right now. Decorated the house this week, was a little emotional but I got through it going to put the tree up this weekend with the kids. I guess getting through all the firsts is the hardest part

The latest comment from my mum - she just called her sister and told her I had my autopsy on Monday. I guess autopsy and mastectomy both end in y.
I am feeling very well considering.
0 -
Penny-LMAO. That needs to go in your book. I imagine your sister was a little surprised!
0 -
Penny...I would love to meet your mum! Hilarious. I am glad you are doing well after the autopsy. I have heard most people don't make it...LOL!

Penny - great laugh!!
Good to hear from everyone. Guess our holiday weekend is winding down here in the States... I've been laid up since Thanksgiving with a yucky, hacking cold. Meanwhile both my mom and my dp's mom are in separate hospitals and we're trying to figure diagnoses/prognoses. When it rains, it pours! Sending hugs to each and every one of you.0 -
Took a BC break over the holiday. I was the hostess and I will say it went really well. Everyone on their best behavior and not too many leftovers.
Penny-so glad your surgery went well. That is wonderful that they also cleaned up your scar area too. I will say I hate my huge long scars but dont mind at all being flat. I have 2 little peaks on my chest that I hope to get flattened out 1 day. They show when I wear something that fits close so I usually wear a tank top underneath. They stick out like little mouse ears.
Jules-your trip sounds great. That must take some logistics to pack all that stuff up and feed for the horses ect. Do you camp or RV? What part of Fla will you be in?
We have had such great weather I decided to spread a truckload of mulch on some of my flowerbeds-I was outside with floodlights til almost 11 last night. Wish the weather would have held out for another truckload. It didn't get done in the spring-maybe because BC got in the way-so now they will look nice all winter and all the bulbs will be fabulus in the spring.
I return to work tomorrow for real-dreading it but looking forward to the money. I am glad I took most of this year off but it sure wrecked my finances. Alos showed me how little I really need to live on.
Rads moves on slowly-7tx down/21 to go. I also see the lymphedema specialist tomorrow and the knee doc on Weds. Have been putting off the knee guy because I was thinking it was the Herceptin but it has me crippled to the point where I can barely do anything. Cant wait to see what 10hrs a day on concrete at work will do for me. REALLY need to get some fat off!!

Lily - I'm hoping rads will pick up speed for you. It's flown for me - I have 7 left. We planted 250 bulbs today and I'm so psyched for next spring. Good luck with heading back to work. I totally relate to taking a financial hit this year. I'm self- employed (and the main breadwinner) so I really need to rev things up in January... Good luck with LE and knee appts.
