I got shingles, too, about 2 months after radiation. It was a mild dose and I got to the doc's in time to get the anti-viral meds. Or I got to the docs in time so therefore it was a mild dose. Who knows? Anyway, I asked the doctor about the shot and he says it only works about 50 % of the time and after the chemo and rads, he didn't recommend putting anything else nasty into the body.

Now 4 1/2 monthsa after rads, breast still sore, hot, red. I wish it would settle down. I made an appt. with the rad onc for May 1st. Same day I have my one year mammogram. Not looking forward to either. Why do we always think the worst?  Oh, yes..... it's because we've had cancer!Smile

I don't like to disagree with those damn white coats but my dr.told me because I already had the shingles years ago if I took the shot I could never get the shingles again...I spoke to other drs along with my pharmacist who is both holistic and reg meds and he told me the same think..I strongly suggest asking other drs.please

I spoke to Jo and she is out of surgery and doing well.  She did have a hematoma and had to get 2 pints of blood before surgery.  I hope this took care of it.  Will keep you posted when I know more.

Just spoke to Jo and she is still draining blood.  She said the doctor came by this morning and order another blood test and said he would see her this afternoon.  So it does not look like she will be going home today

Hi Sistas!  Yes, I am finally home.  Thanks to Sherry to giving all the updates.  I am really sore and resting in my chair.  I am so far behind in reading posts - will try and to back later and do some reading.  In the end, this was all worth it.  The new boob looks amazing even with the swelling.  LOL!

Granny - I did not mean to scare the shit out of you.  I so wish I could of had my computer with me.  The past two days were so boring.  All I could do was just sit and wait for test results and of course the doctor to set me free today.  So glad to be home.

    Karol,

I tell you, it was one hell of a pocket party.  This was the noisiest one yet.  Sorry you got kicked.  I'm sure whoever did it did not mean it.  My aunt made me a small chocolate cake.  I know you have stomach issues so I ate your piece for you.  Did not want you to get sick later on.  LOL!!!  Now the healing shall begin.

Pretty tired and just took a pain pill so off to bed.  Good Night and Sleep Well!!!!!

A good friend brought me a strawberry swirl cheesecake for my b'day and so sorry girls, I did not share it with you.  Instead, I gave some to the wonderful nursing staff I had.

Tori - Yes, April is the best month for birthdays.  It is great to be home.  Just have to make myself slow down and rest - hard for me since I tend to be so active.  I don't have Granny on here kicking my butt and telling me to take it easy - I sure miss her.

Hi Jo, so glad you are doing good! What a scare!

I had a thyroid biopsy last Monday, Tuesday I got the B9 results! yeah!

Went on a retreat, been gone since Thursday.  I highly recommend a get away for everyone, this one is a religious retreat - but for $150 you get a place to sleep and three meals a day.  Turning off the phone, the computer, the tv, the noise of life, let's you really figure stuff out sometimes.  The retreat center was just beautiful too!

I have lots of catching up to do on the boards!

Nice to see you back JO - Hope you heal fast!!!

I have a little funny I would like to share with you, but not sure it is in real life.  I have been watching a dry spot near my incision scar where my nipple used to be.. It has been growing bigger(about 1 cm now) It is a perfect circle scaly spot.. I showed it to DH and he says it looks like my nipple is trying to grow back...ROFL... when he said it - I hit him but after I couldn't stop laughing.

(I have tried my creams and aquaphor on it and it just keeps getting bigger.. Called to talk to a nurse today and, of course, Doc wants to see it YellTongue out not again - why can't they just suggest a cream that I haven't tried yet..) I must admit it has baffled me.. Anyone else have a dry spot like that? - or am I the only one that has these weird things happen?

I didn't have that kind of surgery, but I have found a cream of all creams - can only find it on the Internet but Walgreens.com sells it.  Mediline Olivamine skin repair cream. it's an olive oil base, don't know if it's all natural or such, but it works!

Thanks Gina - I will see if I can find it - I see doc tomorrow - wondering what he will say it is..

I just saw your post too - Good news on the thyroid! Hope you are healing well too.

Update on weird dry patch - Primary took a scraping and went and looked at it - he says it looks like fungus and put it under "Dermatophytosis" - well that is ringworm - how in the heck did I get it  on my boob???  More creams...arrgh... he said if its not looking better in 3 days to call him back.  I just love these docs ROFL - He did say it didn't look like pagets, which is a good thing even though they removed that whole area during my second surgery. On the other hand that is where the dry patch cropped up - in the area of where my nipple was.... weird.

Ladies, I just wanted to tell all of you - I love and pray for everyone here - you are so patient with all my ranting and raving...tears whelling up..... I wish there was a way to meet everyone of you.

Love and prayers for all of you!

Gmafoley.... I have a drying spot. It is kind of like scaly skin and is wired too.tried all the creams too and it doesn't seem to change. I really don't think mine is ringworm. I will discuss with doc next time. Let me know if you find out something different.

Ann- i couldn't wear any of my bras for months after radiation last year....except this camisole support thing I found at walmart for $14.00...was actually good enough support for my DD's...and comfortable...I also had an old wide band spors bra by warners that had no wire but enough support and the ;tata tamer' from lulu lemon is also great...none of them hurt me. I AM back into my regular underwire and regular sports bras now...actually started wearing them off an on about 6 month post rads...started going to a lymphodema specialist(massage therapist) and she helped to move the fluid that I had not even known was there and work with my ribs, which were quite affected by rads....made getting into my bras possible...so...in the meantime, tuck 'em at that back of your drawer and find something comfortable for the next few months while your body heals...

I am 1 month post rads.  I'm haning in there.  Still some discomforts and fatigue.  Going under the knife again tomorrow.  I am having my ovaries removed.  Have wanted them out for over 20 years since I have had many problems with ovarian cysts my whole life. I guess I had to get cancer first.  I've wondered if I could have avoided it if they listened to me back then and took them out.
