Aren't DGDs the best ? So lovely to have them in our lives. My youngest one is 3 and a half, and a poppet....the oldest one is 23. I had young one visit me yesterday, she had the place in uproar. She keeps a box of toys here, which is well overflowing..things just all over the place....she is iPad mad..she got one for last Chistmas. She will squeal at me 'Grandma, you don't do it like that' she has me beat on this one !

DD caught her looking on Utube last week at aborted babies...OMG...sometimes I think a brake should be put on these things...but DD says she can look at what she likes. How times change. I DO NOT think things like this should be allowed at that age..or am I just old fashioned ??? Just glad I haven't to start and explain what she's looking at.

AJ thinking of you, hoping things will resolve soon.

Lisa those pics are just superb..almost felt I was on that train. We get pics a bit like this in travel brochures, but yours look just so real.

Dull day today, driving down country to buy 2 dogs soon, about 3 hours each way. I won't be able to move tonight, nor indeed tomorrow ! I love to drive, but I pay for it !!!

Well, time to get my slap on, secure all animals , and the house, and be off. Just made a pile of sandwiches for myself and my little sausage dog companion who is riding shotgun with me today.

3jay, love that you figured out Cinderella was wearing blue. What colour was Sleeping Beauty? More ammo?? Or Beauty and The Beast? hehehe

Isabella, did your DH ever have his shoulder surgery? Did I miss it??

i have the beauty and the beast YELLOW belle dress for her waiting till the next time i see her. i do love to see her all "girly" as i wasn't as a kid, nor even as i got older.. but she's such a beauty. jason did well. my dil is beautiful as well, and athlete in school, and after two kids, fit as a fiddle..

I so love dressing them BOTH up.. Fischer has his suits here, as his parents don't berlieve in them.. at christmas, he knows we have to come here first to dress up for santa.. Finley lives in dress up everyday of her life.. she's a pistol

if its old fashioned, Isabella, and i don't think it is, im right there with ya.. i monitored all that my kids watched on tv, listened to on their walkmans when they were growing up.. and fish only knew the Disney channel, and A&E channels when i watched him. we still watch Disney when we baby sit. Jason says "you CAN watch TV, mom, i tell him this IS tv jay..lol

so, i think we've earned the right to be "old fashiioned" i happen to think its moral..

what kind of dogs, Isabella?? can't wait.. King Sapniels or hot dogs?? i say the spaniels, you breed beauties, don't you?

well, girls, the red carpet is on.. gonna watch the rich and famous, and the housewives tonight.. neither which i'd let my GKids watch.. but im 62, and can watch any dam thing i want!!3jays

Feeling very cross and sad today. One friend is now sleeping most of the day - she is in the hospice while another is struggling with her fourth lot of chemo, not dose, but fourth round and is pleased that she hasn't lost her hair this time. Then today another was rushed into hospital because the abscesses on her shoulder began to hemorrhage - this is from mets to her shoulder. I hate this disease so much. And I have a scan tomorrow.

Sorry to be a grump but some days it gets at me.

Had a great day with a friend. We drove an hour away to look at a quilt shop then went on anither hour to try to find where her grandparents were buried. Successful day for all. I got some fabric and she found what she was looking for. It was almost 6pm when I got home but it was a good day. I know that next week I will have to help my friend cut out the bag she got, that should be fun, as she doea not sew.

Oh Aly I'm so sorry about your friends........... Yes this disease and what it does to those we live really does stink! (((((((((Hugs)))))))))

Your day out sounds fabulous particularly the bit about the quilt shop........ lol.

Great adventure day Aly!! I like to poke around too and see where the next road takes me.....

I don't have any friends in real life with breast cancer except those I've met on bco. I'm beginning to wonder about that fact about 1 in 8 having breast cancer. I know a lot of women and they don't have it!!! Did I take one for the WHOLE team????

Alyson sorry about your friends... it is so damned frustrating and sad to see those close to you going thru this. I sometimes despair when I hear these things. I don't know anyone with bc in 'realtime'  never joined up for all the razzmatazz after my bmx. I can put my own makeup on, thankyou. I can make my own drain shirts and fathom something out to hold the drains whilst I shower, I can make my own hats (as I am sure most of us here can)  and I don't want to join in with a group, and watch them being picked off one by one over the years. I just want to see some results on the horizon for a cure.

3jays. I bought 2 Cavalier King Charles'...they're lovely. AND I got a telling off from DH ! not that I listen ! I was just slowly driving back from my trek when who should I spy but DH in the village, en route to the pub.... I just prayed the 2 dogs would sit down and shut up as I slowed to talk to him....but no...they went berserk in the back of my car. Just couldn't play the game with me and keep quiet !! Someone or something is always dropping me into deep do-do........see below !

barbe... DH had his surgery, was quite uneventful, and he got over it quickly. He was in and out of the hospital in about 10 hours. He was supposed to keep it still for a few weeks...but..did he ? no, he did not. So now he complains he doesn't think the surgeon was so hot because it still hurts him ( about 6 months down the line) Immobility seems to be the crux of this surgery.

He has since had a further surgery on his elbow..the nerve was badly flattened, mainly because he was a wrestler when he was younger. Well, he wrestled until he was 55, (from about 15) and all that banging about on the canvas with his elbows did for the nerves. Again he was told to keep it up in a sling, and again he didn't, so I just don't bother to listen to him now when he mentions anything more about arms, shoulders and elbows. If I am feeling particularly bloody minded, when he starts moaning I just say 'swap you for bc' always shuts him up.

We are absolutely deluged by heavy rain and 60mph winds. We have had a months rain in half a day...it is miserable. My farmyard has become like a shallow, fast running, wide river. The water has come in from the neighbours fields, my drains just cannot take that volume of water, so it's swished in thru' my garage, at about 8' wide, and widened out to about 20' for about 50 yards, right across the farm, soaking everything in its path. The neighbour, the one I am permanently at war with, just sloshed cow manure all over his fields that adjoin mine, 2 days ago, so the water that's come down is a nice shade of brown !! Doesn't smell , just doesn't look too nice.  Last week he was out with his tractor and tanker clearing out individual cess pits from houses not too far away, totally against the law, and was blatently spreading it on the land straight from the tanker, so all that will have swished nicely across my yard. I was going to call Public Health, and get them to come and sample this brown water, as human excrement is easily dectectable in a sample, but do not have the stomach for yet another fight with my dear neighbour. Luckily the water is carrying along on its way out of my yard, so when it stops raining it shouldn't leave too much mess, its roaring along at such a speed I don't think much will be left behind. As long as it doesn't take my house for a ride, and I end up 20 miles away when I wake up, it can carry on for me !! Probabaly be ecoli , salmonella and goodness knows what left in the wake.

Just one more little bump along lifes path.

    Hi all'

Isabella like you I haven't joined any BC group here and I didn't go to LGFB because at the time I was too busy trying to be super woman. (This is the place I come for support.) The friends who are not so good are that; friends from my everyday life which in some ways makes it worse. One is a neighbour, one a friend from church and the other the wife of someone I have been on committees with. And I have just heard that the wife of one of my husband's colleagues now has secondaries from BC. It seems to be everywhere, cancer sucks big time.

Scan went well. Everyone could feel the lump but can't find what it is, wasn't showing up clearly, could be thrombosis of a lymph vessel but they just don't know. So I suppose we will just have to watch what happens with it. Even the radiology doc came in to have a look and talked to me about it which is great.

Have done some gardening this afternoon. Must put out some snail bait as they have been having a party on some of the things I planted on the weekend.

    Big hugs to all

oh,  Isabel!!la, you have had /ENUFF rain this year!!now, this!

i would imagine if you did have public health there, theyd make you liable to clean it up! will the animals (or you) get sick from the soil later? gosh, I hope not..

Im glad the scan didn't show mets, Alyson, but anything that has to "be watched" always scares me a little.. im so sorry about youyr friends.. there's just too many of us, like chrissy said.

so, we talked to the realtor, today, and can't quite figure out whats' going on.. we're going to have her over to talk, but end game, (i think ) is we'll move, no matter.. she said he didn't want to sell, but he didn't want to do any more maintenence, either.. maybe he's just gonna pay the hoas, and let it sit? anyway, i don't think i'll feel like i could trust him, i don't think we're getting a straight answer.. so, seeing some properties is in the future for us.. i hate its' over the holidays, but its the way it workeed out the first time..oh well..

i hope God did give me those strong shoes, allyson.hahaha3jays

3Jays, I know I got the strong shoes but some days they are just too heavy and its hard to pick up my feet and get them moving.

DD breezed in having taken DGD to have her hair trimmed and she had a blow out just as she got there, luckily there is a male hairdresser who changed her tyre for her.

Now I have to think about dinner, freezer seems rather low on meat/fish/protein so not sure what to have and the cats are down to their last lot of food so I should visit the supermarket. Was going earlier now not sure if I can be bothered but we do have to eat.

    Big hugs to all

Alyson, at least your scan didn't alarm anyone even if what it is can't be determined right now, so that's good.  Like you, this is the place I come to for support.  And I'm so sorry about your friends too.

I do know too many women with breast cancer.  Think I'm the 9th or 10th in our church, and then they're 2 work friends of mine and 4 who worked with DH.  I never joined any local group and never went to LGFB either.  This site was recommended to me by the radiologist who dixcovered the tumor and I've been here ever since.  And, I don't think I could ever find a finer support group than all of you!

3jays, I'm sorry you're facing this upheaval now, just about all you need.  Something sounds strange-- the guy wants to keep the properties without maintaining them?  Well, it shouldn't be the renters' responsibility to maintain what they don't own.  Anyhow, I wish you and Mur the best of luck in finding another place soon.

Isabella, do hope the rain and wind has let up and the nasty residue is carried away.  Surely don't want you to be exposed to anything the neighbor's uncovering!  Be careful, please.

We had DGS today and are loving the Tuesdays and Thursdays with him.  He wants to be outside all the time and the weather cooperated today.  I told him we'd make peanut butter cookies Thursday and am adding the ingredients to my list right now--he'll remember I said that!

    AJ, hope you're okay.

    Night everybody, and hugs

Well, the rain has stopped here, but has left in its wake floods all over the locality.

I was going to drive into town this afternoon, but both of the main roads I would use are closed, and I have no idea where the water is on the back roads, and I don't really want to find out!

I have a knitting 'bug'    aarrghh.   I feel I must knit, knit, knit ! That's why I was going into town. BUT, 20 mins sat at my pc... the exact pattern I want, plus 16 balls of super chunky wool, all paid on Paypal.... for delivery tomorrow !! A lot less than shop price, plus free postage, and 24 hour delivery. I save on this, on not having to fork out for petrol, and no trek into town ! Really no wonder at all why the shops are losing trade and shutting down. One small problem. I have absolutely no idea where my knitting needles are, could be absolutely anywhere in the house. And IF I find them I cannot guarantee having big fat needles, so will have to go somewhere local for needles ! I shall get obsessive when I start, shall be clicking away in my sleep.

Had a litter of puppies yesterday, 8, quite a big litter  really for this breed, Cavalier King Charles, so have some babies to look after again. I hate being without babies in the house to look after, it's been about 2 weeks now since my last ones left me.  They are doing fine. I have them in 2 shifts at the moment 4 on their mother, 4 on a hot water bottle, giving mum a rest, so they all get a good start at the 'milk bar' and no-one gets left behind. So, there I shall be for the next week or two, sitting knitting, messing about with puppies !

A nice warm shower is calling me now.

Dear Isabella - can I come and live with you for a while - you could knit me a lovely sweater and I could cuddle the babies 24/7 - I have wanted a Cavalier King Charles for many years but alas cannot afford one (I do have a wonderful elderly Bichon though) - you are a lucky lady (except for the flood).

LOL barbe, you crack me up every time!!

    Thinking of you all.

For some reason I couldn't log onto this site for a couple of days and then yesterday I was back in city at ENT doc appt. He stuck some tube down my nose and said my vocal cords looked good and no acid refux (I could have told him that.) Then He had me do a CT scan of my sinuses. So now a few days wait for those results at least they could do the test at the same day. Then I picked up my friend from the airport and she drove me home, I was so tired. So now just hangng in pjs with no doc appts for a day!

Last week my PCP had upped my bp meds and I woke up on Sunday with elephant legs and feet. So now on another med to make me pee even more than I do already. No one ever wants to go on a drive with me.

Oh Alyson, I feel for you and all the friends that you have struggling. Life feels so unfair sometimes. (((hugs))))

    3jays, moving? bah!!!

    Isabella, new puppies, how sweet!

    Aj, hope you are ok.

    Chrissy, how are you?

    purple, good to "see" you.

    kathy, enjoy the gks

lassie, strong shoes don't have to be heavy just well built.

Got to get off my duff and "do something" about my business, even if it is just deleting the 40 thousand phone messages. This is the time of year I get really busy, once it cools off and every one pulls their shoes out of the closet and realize they need heels or soles from last year. Oh well, not this year for me.

Nancy, thank goodness this new doc is really hunting for the cause!!!! I guess they put you on Hydrochlorothiazide. Do you have to split the pill in two? I used to, but now take a full pill. I don't pee any more than I used to, but when I get lazy and don't go, boy do I really see the fluid build-up!! For anyone who doesn't think pee weighs a lot, just lug around a jug of milk or orange juice and see how much weight it can add!!!!

  • macatacmv
    macatacmv Member Posts: 1,200

barbe, yes they put me on the pill with the name I can't even say and I just take one in the morning. I have to say my ankles look more normal today. But is it the bp med or the prednisone, or does it even matter? Yes, the new pulmanary doc is great at calling me back and seems concerned. I called him on monday when my legs were so swollen, but ended up at the PCP.  The ENT doc was looking for a infected plug of mucus stuck in my sinuses somewhere (yuck) if that is not the case I get pushed back to the pulmonary dept.

I drink water all day long b/c I am always thirsty (assuming prednisone) so I pee all the time. too.

My DS is coming home for two days tomorrow. So I will have some company and someone to hang around with besides the dog. yay!! Just the right amount of time for a visit. He can get his laundry done and the house won't get totally messed up.

Mac, I take that diuretic too and my dr calls it HCTZ, much easier to remember! I'm glad you've got somebody now who's actually trying to find a solution. And enjoy having your son at home, too.

Isabella, I'd really welcome your expertise around here right now!  We're dogsitting DD and SIL's dog Chloe, an American bulldog, who outweighs our Bud The Dog by at least 25 lbs.  Tonight's the 2nd night (one to go).  The dogs are giving each other a wide berth so that's good, but it's going to take Bud T.D. a few days to sulk off this invasion, I imagine.

DGS told me today that when he grows up, he wants to be a squirrel so he can jump from tree to tree.  Oh my goodness.

  • macatacmv
    macatacmv Member Posts: 1,200

Kathy, I can't remember how old DGS is, but you could get the kid a zip line. (a small one, of course). I would love to be a squirrel too. (except for the part of getting squashed in the street.) How's the dog, happy too have you guys back to himself? or giving you the cold shoulder?

My dog gets so nervous every time I pull out my bag for a day trip to the city. She has now figured it out what happens after that gets packed. I have a pet sitter that comes and takes her to the dog park and comes back and feeds her dinner. So it is not a hard day for her, but she just looks at me with "those" eyes. She'll be real happy to see my DS today, too.

purple, I guess it is good news that we can't find a glaring problem for my breathing issues. But it is very frustrating. This new doc seems more committed to finding a solution. And with the new insurance they seem to be more willing to preform tests. So onward I go. It just seems that one med leads to another med leads to another med...........

Hi girls! Sorry I have been absent but you know how it is.........lol.

Oh Isabelle new puppies? Oh how I wish I could share your puppy sitting! I just love all new life but there is just something special about puppies and their sweet puppy breath. I can just see us now, you on one side and me on the other both of us with knitting in hand having a right ol conversation ........lol.

Nancy I hear you on 'that look'. My little dog gives it to me every time I pick up my handbag! ........lol...... they are pretty good at making you feel guilty even when there is no need. Loving your new doc as he sounds like he's doing good things for you. Hope you enjoy the visit from your son!

I have finally decided to tackle a very fine knitting project, knitting lace. I'm doing okay but every now and then I have to unknit a row or two because I've done something wrong.........it's a stitch by stitch thing and boy do I have to concentrate! Hopefully as I get more proficient it won't be such a challenge.......lol. I'm doing well and have decided I want to loose a few more kilos so am slowly getting back to my good eating habits....... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the weight will start sliding off me soon.......lol.

Hoping everyone else is doing well and having a great day.

    Love n hugs. Chrissy

Chrissy - I'ld love to see a picture of your lace.  How do you plan to use it?

The only lace I've ever made was tatted.  My Mom made the finest crochet lace 've ever seen.  She did edgings on the finest linen handkerchiefs made using the tiniest hooks ever (you needed 20 20 vision to even see the hook) with super fine linen thread.  She made them for all of her sisters-in-law and most of her friends but never got around to making one for me before her vision failed enough that she had to give up making them. I so wished I had one to carry on my wedding day.

Chabba the pattern is actually for a triangular shawl. If it turns out like it should, I will gift it to my DD and then do another for my other DD. something they can remember me by each time they wear them.

Once finished it has to be blocked to pull it into shape but I'll be happy to share the progress with you.

Chrissy, I saw your shawl on FB and it is AMAZING!!! How big is it at that point?

Mac, here's hoping they find a stinky luger of infection that has been bugging you all this time!! Get it out and be DONE!!!!
