    Ginger...late , I know..but I am joining in the chorus...just do it !

I fell UP a short flight of 4 stone stairs...coming out of my sitting room. HOW on earth we manage to fall UP stairs I do not know !

I always remember my G/ma and Aunt, seemed to have a fresh bump or bruise each time I saw them when they were older. My Aunt, who's been gone 2 years now, seemed to somehow just be getting her face clear from one black eye when she'd go fall again. She had some really spectacular 'shiners'. I got a few calls late at night from the police to come get her, she'd been found wandering on the roadside quite a way from her home, invariably bruised up again ! ( One time she'd wandered to the airport 2-3 miles from her home, and was happily sat playing cards with the security staff when I got to her... and bruised again !)

I am going to the ER for a CAT scan. I called my Doc because my neck seems swollen especially on the sides. She said that is unusual and thus I need to be seen.  I am of course sore all over from the fall.  I think I was sort of shocky last night things seemed a little off.    So thanks for all your feedback. It is what I would have told anyone of you.

I'll let you know later what's up.  I imagine I will be diagnosed as stubborn and clumsy.

    Thanks

    Love Ginger

Yep, I have a concussion. Not too bad though. My neck is hurt and it isn't uncommon for the pain to be in the front from hitting my head on the back.  The cat scan did disclose that I have an anatomical condition called Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. My ventricles in my brain are enlarged, apparently if I have no  symptoms it is okay but if I get a certain group of symptoms then I would need a shunt.   Wow, I think I will need to meet with Doc Google soon.

My back exrays were okay just showed lots of deterioration in my cervical area? Neck.

I am able to resupply my vicodin supply now since the cleaners filched my previous batch. These are going into the safe.   I only took one and hope I don't need the second. I prefer ibuprophen.

So thanks for looking out for me. I am stubborn about actually getting to care.

    Love Ginger

Elisimo, thanks for the memories you just brought back to me.

My Dad always used to say that when he came to pick me up after school, three hundred kids would run out and one would fall over, it was always me!

He also said that I didn't see my knees for the whole of Primary School because they were covered in Band Aids.

Fortunately I grew out of the falling, but I still do my share of walking into things.

Ginger, pleased you went and got sorted. You can always find 100 reasons why you don't need to go when you are being pressed !

Anyone got any ideas on this one ?? Foxing me . As I brush and comb my hair I hit a spot on my skull that sounds hollow ( NO laughing here )...an area about 2"x1" Just sounds as if I am running over the top of a taught drum. No pain, no swelling, nothing...if I scratch the area I can 'hear' from inside my skull that it's different, as if it's hollow.

I just do not fancy going to TRY and see my Dr, as they'll think I am losing it with this one! I had a shocker of a letter from my cardiology professor this morning ( he's supposed to be treating my AFib and my runaway BP) He'd sent a letter to my GP, who in turn, had sent a copy to me.  He was berating the fact that I had stopped the drug perindopril, had 'taken it upon herself to stop taking the drug because it was making her dizzy' Dizzy was a monster understatement I had a hellish bad reaction to the drug, fever, flu symptoms, floor coming up to meet me, nauseous, couldn't walk a straight line, and just dare not get into a car and attempt to drive. I  had to call an emergency Dr. out, who promptly took me off the drug. He went on to say I should have halved this drug...but...I didn't know this, the emergency Dr obviously didn't know this, and I took the advice of the emergency Dr, and in about 24 hours I was OK.

I 'worry too much about all aspects of my medical care' no flipin' wonder the treatment I am getting ! and was advised by him to 'engage with hypertensive therapy' (whatever this is) at my appointment..... NEVER mentioned to me. I am also ' too involved with what she is reading on her computer'( I try and keep my trap shut here, as I know the medical proffesion DO NOT like you to read anything on the pc that they don't know about !!)

I am trying today to get hold of my GP practice manager...I have just had enough of this, being unable to get an appointment to see a decent Dr ..being hurried off in 8 minutes...and being misread each time I see a Dr. I have had 3 go's already to try and speak to the practice manager, who seems to be 'unavailable' all day !

I suppose if I even start to mention a little bit of my skull sounds hollow they'll be running for a straight jacket !

So sorry to hear you have a concussion Ginger.

I missed your post about going to the Doctor. Good thing you did. Not so grand finding out about something else though is it.

I hope you don't have pain for long.

    Take care!

Ginger - My oldest granddaughter had a shunt put in last week for hydrocephalus!  Hers was the result of some microscopic scaring on the ventricles caused by the viral minigitus she had just after Thanksgiving!  Everyone was praying for Kendall and she went back to school for the first time since Dec 12 today.  It is evidently not an uncommon thing to have done.  But it really is scary when it happens to your 12 year old DGD.  She turned 13 in the hospital on Feb. 2nd.

Isabella - I have a spot on my skull that sound hollow too. It is on top where the soft spot on a baby's head would be.  Mine has always been there as far back as I can remember anyway.  There is a name for it but I cannot remember what it is. I'll have to look it up again.  Mine is from my brain not filling up a portion space after the bone had grown to cover the soft spot.  I hava a "normal size" brain, but there is a slight dent in that one spot and it is filled with CSF all the time.  It has never caused me any problems even with all my klutzy moves, but if it ever starts to give me problems I will probably wind up with a shunt also.  If this is something new for you, then you do need to get it checked out.  How about coming to see one of us in the states and get it checked out over here.  Good excuse for a trip to America. Smile

Hope everyone is having a good week.  AJ

Thanks AJ, glad it's not just me. I will TRY and mention it next time I manage to get an appointment.

I have just managed to get an appointment with the manager of the medical practice, to sort out with her about these stupid 8 minute consultations. I have to wait until mid-March to see her. I have been asking around about other practices not too far away, but no-one has a good word for any of them either...all I want is a decent old fashioned Dr who has time to sort things out, I don't know whether I shall find one tho'.

It is soooo cold today, I cannot keep the house warm, and outside is shocking. Heck of a windchill. We are in for another week of bitter cold and snow, starting tonight. It must be 18 months now since we had any nice warm weather. A lot of the crops are failing in the fields, just stress from all the water and ice, it is going to be a not very good year , don't think there will be any profits at all. I think I am going to retire this year. I said that last year, but the miserable weather is pushing me hard this time. There is no interest when it's so cold and miserable all of the time, and nothing grows or produces anything. I like to ride around and look at things, but just can't be bothered when it's so cold , and there is a real possibility of getting stuck in the mud somewhere.

I sold a puppy yesterday to a blind girl...about 18-20...and am having panics about it. Her mother lived with her, as her carer, so there will be a sighted person in the house....but, young lady walked around with a long white stick, and puppy looked worried by this. I suppose it will learn to live with it, I have impressed that I will take puppy back, should things not work out, but it doesn't stop me worrying ! These puppies are my babies while they are here, I try and get the best homes and families I can for them. Over the years I have refused a handful of people a puppy. I shouldn't set myself up as so judgemental, but have to think of the longterm home that the puppy will end up with. I find it quite easy to refuse on the 'phone...as I ask questions, and can usually tell by the answers that it will be a suitable home or not....but sometimes one or two get by me, end up coming to see the puppies, and I have to say no.

My stray dog is becoming a nuisance, as he finds his feet. He can jump onto the top of the kitchen units, and has made some quite spectacular gouges in one of my windowsills, marks that will not come out. He was up on the dining table 2 days ago, but, luckily, no marks. I am trying to persuade DH to take him to his house, so the dog can jump up and ruin his kitchen units !! I won't normally have male dogs in the house. I find them always 'squirting' up chairs and curtains. SO FAR this young man hasn't done this. I run a female only establishment !! Just me and my girls.

Isabella maybe you could get the stray fixed? everyone would be happier.  We left our standard poodle boy akine until after he was a year old thinking he would mature physically more. He was bey9ond playful and bouncy until we got him fixed. He is much more civilized now.    One boy with all those girls, hm what kind of crossbreds would they make?  lol

I am off to the Dr to get referrals to Doc for this Normal Pressure Hydrocepghalus I seem tpo have. I truely did not and do not wantg an additional condition.  My brain is messy enough on its own it doesn't need any help.

    Laters my friends

Okay, I have a referral to a Neurologist. Also instruction to take it easy for a few weeks and not to expect my head to clear up right away. I have felt mysteriously cranky.

After this is settled I am to go to a clinic for my gait and to straighten all of that out so maybe I won't fall over so easily.

We went out to dinner with 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter tonight. She demonstrated he ability to slurp spaghetti up into her mouth. She is quite good at it really. We had a good time.

    Sleep well my friends.

Ginger, I hope all this clears up soon - clear head, clear gait, continued clear from BC.

Now, the ability to slurp up spaghetti - a useful talent that will get her far!

Take it easy and slow Ginger.  Need to get you well.

Your granddaughter would fit right in in Japan.  Slurping your noodles is the proper way to eat them.  My son works over there and one time we chaperoned some students to their town's sister city in MA.  He had to teach them how to eat spaghetti.

    Hello everyone,

so glad you are getting fixed up Ginger.

Isabella, your medical system would drive me crazy. I think AJ has the right idea.

I haven't been on the computer in a few days because (talk about klutzy) I torn my cornea in my right eye. Bright lights really hurt it. I have been going to the eye doc every evening at 5:30 and having it debreded (sp) and checked out for infection. So I am back to having someone drive me around and fetching stuff for me. Totally bummed. The doc leeps telling stories about how kids heal overnight from these kind of injuries. We all know I am not a kid anymore and it seems to take forever for me to heal. A friend said to me today maybe I was starting to do too much and this is the universe's way of getting me to slow down. If I could have seen her better I would have decked her. LOL

Ginger, your crankiness is totally justified!  Let us know if the gait training helps with klutziness.  A lot of us might need that!

Mac, so sorry about your eye.  I'm glad you're getting it treated.  Years ago I had a problem with a scratched cornea caused by dry eyes, and you're right about the bright lights.  Hope it gets better soon!

We don't have very encouraging news about Bud The Dog.  He's been on antibiotics since Christmas Eve for his anal gland rupture and although it's no longer swollen, it's still full of holes, as the vet says.  Today the vet gave him an antibiotic injection that should last 2 weeks, then back to be checked.  The vet said it could be cancer.  The only thing to do (if this antibiotic doesn't help) is surgery to remove the gland, which is very expensive and could leave Bud incontinent.  We couldn't handle that, especially with DGS and 2 new babies (1 here now, 1 due in August) around.  We're hoping and praying that this new drug will make a difference even though the vet wasn't very encouraging.  I know we can't afford the surgery.

On a brighter note, I took DGS home this afternoon and got to hold baby Aiden while DIL went to the grocery store.  So, MeMa got her Aiden-fix and I'm good to go until Tuesday.

    Not in sparkling form today.

Woke up @6am in very bad pain, in my back.

I'ts been getting slowly worse for 2 weeks. I have tried to get a GP appointment for this, and the first one I can get is March 13th.....17 days away. I took the bull by the horns at 10am, not being able to do very much at all, and called our 'emergency' service. I can't wait 'til March 13th. I had to leave a message. At just after 12 pm a nurse called, spent ages taking details, and said a Dr would call me within 2 hours. At 3pm a doctor called, repeated all the nurses questions, and said an emergency Dr would be with me 'in 6 hours' and if I hadn't heard in 6 hours to ring them again.

I have had to ring G/son and get him up here to sort out my dogs and puppies, I just cannot move very far without great pain. If the pains were at the front, and not all in my ribs at the back of my body, I would say I was in labour !!! No tablets I have in the house will touch this pain, so am hoping eventually for emergency Dr to give me a prescription for something a lot stronger.....of course if it's going on midnight when he turns up I shall not be able to get the prescription made up until tomorrow.

Goodness knows when I will get my op. for 3 slipped discs....maybe this will move it on a bit. I have been waiting now over 2 years....and 2x MRIs and numerous consultations and I'm still not sorted out. I couldn't get in my car and drive this morning, so am pretty well stuck. DD has said she will come stay tonight, then get the kiddo's together to sort out more cover....but almost everyone have jobs to go to and I don't want to be a nuisance.

To liven things up a bit it's just started to snow a blizzard, it's only forecast showers, but they're damned big showers to me !!

Maybe by morning I will have produced twins !!

Isabella - you are too funny.  So sorry you are having to deal with such horrible pain.  Your medical system is so horrid and out of control let alone any seeming competence or compassion.  Hope the ER doc can get thing going in the right direction for you.

oh Isabella, I hope you have been seen by the doc and are feeling much better.

I am still having trouble reading, but the eye is slowly getting better. I go back to see the eye doc again tomorrow. My DS came home for the weekend to help me out. Which was very nice of him. He is going to CO to visit my DD on Tuesday.

Has it always said women over 60 for the "older people with more sense" discription? I never noticed it before.

I am watching the Oscar's show on TV. Lots of glamour.

Isabella, England has the worst medical system I've ever heard of.  How does anyone in need of acute care for anything ever get treated?  I do hope that by now you at least have something to relieve your pain!

Mac, I'm like you in that I never noticed the "over age 60" before, and I don't think it's always been there.  Just sort of jumped out at me the other day.

Nancy I called it that as at the time of starting the thread there was a bit of a stouch going on within the thread most of us used to inhabit........lol.......I called the whole thing senseless so hence the 'more sense' tag.....lol. Hope your eyes keep on improving for you as there really is nothing worse than not being able to see clearly.

Isabella, I'm sure your kids and grannies are not considering you a nuisance at all! You are in great pain and need some help, just try to relax a little and let them aide you. Hoping that emergency doc can help ease than pain and put in a report to help get things moving with the op........two years wait for something like that is just plain ridiculous! Gentle ((((((((hugs))))))) hoping you feel better soon.

AJ are you doing okay? I was soooo pleased to see that your GD has finally returned home to her family........poor little mite sure had a mountain to climb to get there.

Awe Kathy......making the decisions regarding our beloved pets is so hard. They give us such unconditional love for years that we hate to see them suffer in any way.

How lovely to have new babies coming to your home! I'm at the point of waiting for great grand babies.......mind you that won't be for quite a few years yet but all my grand are teenage boys.......sigh........the waiting could be long, hopefully I will be here to see them....well at least one......lol.

Ginger, I am so glad you went to see the doc after that fall. Hopefully the specialist will just tell you that the hydrocephalus will just be a wait and see sort of thing but good to know it is there. See, you were meant to fall and go get checked out just for that reason.

Kathindc did I welcome you? If not I do heartily welcome you to our little group!.....my memory is getting really bad........sometimes I can't remember what I did five minutes ago......lol. Anyway, hope you feel right at home here.

Hoping all you girls are having a good day.....or night.....lol.

    Chrissyb,

What is a stouch? Also, do you know what banjaxed means? I am reading a book written by an Irish author...lots of new words.

  • chrissyb
    chrissyb Member Posts: 11,438

Hi Hightide welcome to our little group! A stouch is a fight or argument. That word is used often in Australian slang I guess from the Irish immigrants many years ago but the other word, I'm sorry I really haven't got a clue.....lol. If I knew I what context it was used I could probably guess at it though.

    Afternoon all

Just catching up with reading. Having a quiet day because I just don't have any energy at all and feel horrible, joint pain etc buts thats me.

Kathy don't judge all of the UK's medical system as being the same as where Isabella. Most areas have excellent care. Isabella must live in a problem place as many rural areas are, at times I just shake my head in disbelief after knowing the care my children and other relations have received in the UK. Have heard complaints about GPs in certain areas and the fact you often do not see the same doctor but this doesn't happen everywhere.

Hightide welcome. A stouch, here in NZ and in Australia, is slang for a fight - it was quite a good barney. Banjaxed is smashed up - not a word I would use really -we would probably use munted.

    Has anyone heard from 3jays?

    Big hugs to all

Sorry for the delay in saying thank you for the translations. Had cataract surgery on Monday. All went well and the difference is amazing!

What was the quote? 'Two english speaking countries separated by a common language'.

It is good to know that Isabella's care is not the norm. I think the best care I have seen was in the Netherlands.

When you need to be aggressive the most is when you don't have the energy but we have to be our own advocates and cheerleaders for anyone getting less than what is at least a reasonable minimum.

These boards seem such an odd place for a 'stouch'. I can see it happening though...exhaustion, anxiety, pain can make all of us hypersensitive and a little weird. I have vented and then regretted it.

We have to live like porcupines in a small room: quills down.

hightide, I like the idea of porcupines with quills down.

wow, cataract surgery, yesterday? And all ready you can read on the computer? Wasn't someone just asking if anyone had experience with that type of surgery?

I am still struggling along with my eye trouble. Yesterday the eye doc said, usually in cases with so much swelling I put them on steriods. I said thanks, but no thanks! Had enough of those. It is getting better, just very slowly.

have not heard from 3 jays lately. will send an email.
