"so if you all are older and seemingly have more sense... i presume you will understand and respect my pov... if not.. i await your pm's"

Darn!    before posting for the first time yesterday I read through many posts and decided that this was a lovely group and I would enjoy being a part of it.  I see that I was wrong and there are those on here, just like so many other boards, that find fault with such insignificant things.  Perhaps the title should have been "For Older People with Scents".  Then the scents may have been offensive but not the title.  Personally, when fighting cancer I try to be upbeat and try to keep my sense of humor as a weapon against the BEAST.  Call the board what you will and I won't give up on it yet.................I need all the help I can get.

One of the reasons I love this particular thread and its sensible members is that we love and support each other, and don't bicker.  I'm glad Chrissy answered you Celine - our Chrissyb is the lovliest of ladies.

Welcome new ladies, and good to hear from pop-inners like me....

AJ, you are in my thoughts and prayers - have a wonderful trip to Japan, and I wish you good news from your scans when you return.

Barbe, glad to see you, hope you are doing ok.

Chrissy, your wedding plans are fun - the dress will be lovely.

    Isabella, where are you?

    Leah, how are you doing?

I am starting some spring cleaning, and a little gardening.  We had next-to-no-winter in NorCal.

    Hugs to all.

Mary I have answered Celine and changed the heading of the thread........the last thing I want on this thread is discord........we are here to support each other and make allowances for each of us having a bad day every now and then.

When I started this thread it was in answer to a problem on another thread and I believed we all had more sense as adult women than to fight like cats. Hence the 'more' sense but after all this time, the more is not needed so has been removed. Thank you Celine for pointing that out to me.

LC the wedding is going to be lovely as my DD has a great sense of style but its the organising and getting it done part that takes the time and patience.......lol.......I'm sure on the day all the stresses will just disappear as I see her walk toward her future husband.

    Love n hugs all. Chrissy

Chrissy - I am glad that you were able to explain the name of this thread. There certainly is nothing offensive going on here - just kind people chatting.  It's been interesting seeing people say their ages. I'm beginning to feel younger at 65. Kind of like at the bridge club where I play.

AJ - wishing you a worry free trip to Japan and good results when you return.

The wedding dresses are gorgeous! Too bad my only daughter is already married or we could make something wonderful again. I made her dress. We had a silk brocade top that my father got in Japan for my mother (while on leave during the Korean war). Mom had given it to my daughter years before. We made a spaghetti strap dress to go with it and she added my grandmother's necklace and kid gloves. Since my daughter is quite lovely (aren't all our daughters lovely?), it all worked quite well.

Good grief with all we are dealing with why are people so flipping hypersensitive about a thread? Good grief. Who cares? We are all battling the same disease yet we have to disagree on something like this. I just left another thread with a internet/forum war raging about posting on the Stage IV threads. It seems some people cannot see another's viewpoint. You would think with dealing with a disease with no guarantees be it early or late stage, would be enough to at least remain civil. For the record I am Stage II, Grade 1. Despite being anxious about my DX my heart breaks for all the women in Stage IV. We know they can survive a long time because they have but we also know for the most part the odds are against them. I also understand how the caregivers feel which is fear and helpless. They too need help and advice and who better to give it to them than ones who have it. I just lost a friend who had Stage IV melanoma. No I know this is a bc board but I am just saying I now understand how totally helpless you feel as a friend and/or caregiver. He cried when he told me he had it. I was stunned. Caregivers are just asking for assistance in what to say or do. Its hard on them too. All I am saying is we need to focus more on why we are here and less on what I consider to be petty issues. Hi Edwards, some days are hard to get through and if you are stressed out everything seems to get to you.........I know, been there and done that as have most of us I would think.

I try to keep this thread welcoming to all, as if you are walking into your favourite persons kitchen and chatting while having a cup of tea or coffee........no need for hot under the collar, just friends supporting each other when our lives seem to be a bit hard to cope with on our own.

I do understand what some of the stage IVs are saying when they say they want privacy but we are not all like that. I for one like the interaction of all stages and welcome all stages here. I don't want to start the debate here that has been going on on the other thread as I think all that needs to be said has been said and would like to see the subject closed and we return to the comfortable camaraderie that existed between us all here.

Hoping your weekend is going well.

    Love n hugs. Chrissy

Chrissy, you do a superb job of making everyone here feel welcome, and you have such a gift for knowing exactly the right thing to say in any situation.  So, love n hugs to you, my friend.

Lisa, thanks for the lovely picture!  It made me feel better on this freezing cold, rainy day here.

Chrissy, I didnt mean to come across as "one of those"; I know most of our nerves are raw. I am like you in that I like to be out there talking about what ails me physically and otherwise. By contrast my sister who also has BC is very close to the vest. We didnt know for months that she even had bc. I dont shout my dx from the rooftops - far from it - but I do feel better kicking around symptoms and opinions like we do on this forum. I have friends on FB too but it isnt the same. This is truly one illness that you have to unfortunately experience to really understand. I am a very optimistic person and I have nothing but optimism for all of us. As for the Stage IV debate I also agree with you...not getting in the middle of that; just using it as an example. Thank you for responding. diane

Lisa - Lovely.  I can almost smell the scent from here. Back down to freezing tonight and tomorrow night and fruit trees are blooming.  Ugh.

Thank you girls for your kind thoughts.

Lisa that is a beautiful rose and just the right color for the wedding......lol......shame I didn't have a dozen bushes that will be blooming right at that time.

Oh yes, over the next few months you are going to be worn out listening to me with the wedding bits and pieces. Forgive me girls if I bore you with my ramblings.......lol.......but I'm sure those of you with daughters have been through it all before.

The change of seasons can be lovely but it can also be a bit of a pain as we get a tantalising view of what is to come only to be reminded that the present season is not yet done........sigh.......I guess that just reminds us that we are all a little impatient at times.

    Have a lovely day all!

    Love n hugs. Chrissy

what a lovely flower, Lisa. I am listening to another report of snow for tomorrow. But it was almost 50f and sunny, so a wonderful day for a walk with the dog.

I really like the way we care for each other on this thread. I stay away from the ones with conflict, not because I have more sense but because love and kindness help me stay sane. Everyone welcomed me here, especially chrissy.

I had good news this week that I won't need surgery for the two basal cell (skin) cancers. One can be frozen and the other I can use a cream.

AJ, I hope you can leave your problems behind for your trip, have a great time!!

welcome to the new ladies, mary, celine, diane.

Is it just me or does every book and movie I see lately mention bc. I watched a movie the other night "Just Give". One of the characters was a rad tech. She gave mammos all day. She told another character that she thought of breasts as "tubes of potential danger". LOL

Nancy I think BC is so out there now because the awareness campaigns have done their job.........now that's a good thing.........and it does seem to be mentioned...a lot.....in all sorts of unexpected ways. It just gives us a bit of a jolt when we hear and see it in a context not regarding ourselves.......lol

Good to hear that you don't need surgery for you basal cell carcinomas. I had one frozen off my had last time I went to see my GP and he has given me a referral for the dermatologist.........now that reminds me, I must ring and make an appointment.

    Hi all

Welcome to the newbies. Pleased Chrissy explained, title made great sense at the time, now I don't even think about it.

Wedding fever is hitting here, its just a month away and FDDiL wants everything to be perfect so we have had to calm nerves already and DH has even decided that his teasing must be toned down. Though I must say teh the two guys who are going to drive the wedding cars were having fun making all sorts of suggestions as what they could do. Mainly along the lines of the decorations from 'my great fat gypsy wedding'

I have my dress and now have to convince DH he does need a new shirt and tie. We sorted out flowers for the venue yesterday after DGS's birthday party.

Have had wonderful day so far. DGS decided he wasn't going to M and Ms so we went for a 'fluffy' (for those who don't know fluffed milk with chocolate.) I had coffee of course.  Then friend took me out for lunch and since then have played with my new camera, haven't worked out how to down load yet but will try soon.

     That was sitting looking outside

And these are the only flowers in my baked garden. Think I am going to have fun with this camera!!!!!!

    Big hugs

I will and have welcomed her here should she wish to participate in the thread........we all have bad days and no harm was done.

Love n hugs to you. Chrissy

Wow what clear pictures Alyson. The camera was a birthday present? Happy Birthday!

I, for one, like the wedding talk. Neither of my kids are talking about marriage yet, so I like hearing how others plan and execute theirs.

Thanks for responding,Chrissy. You are right about the awareness campaigns. I am probably more sensitive to any mention of BC, too. It just seems to be in my face all the time.

A friend of mine just got diagnosed with ILC, so I've been doing some research to help her understand. I don't know much about the differences between that and IDC. The treatments seem about the same.

Anyway, I am going to try to sleep now. I like being able to talk to my different time zone sisters. Good night from my side of the world.

Aly, always just try tonremember just what it is you are taking the picture of/for. I find that if I am taking pix of flowers, it it good not to take it very close..step back and let the lens bring it close in..also give the lens time to adjust before and after you focus and you take the pix. Enjoy

Lisa you take such beautiful pictures.  I'm looking forward to when we get our camera - planning on a Canon Rebel T3i.  Do you have any suggestions?

  • socallisa
    socallisa Member Posts: 10,184

gumby, when I had my 33mm camera, I had all the lenses..now I just want one camera to fit all..and I love my Canon PowerShot SX50HS..it has a lens with 50 times optical zoom..I have to say I also had one to fit in my purse or pocket too..a panasonic DMC-ZS5..it has 12X optical zoom...Also the reason I don't buy one that is very pricey is that the tecky changes come to often to invest a huge amount of money in a camera..a better one comes along too soon..having said that just do it...Canon rebels are good cameras..

I have a Nikon and love it. Went from film to digital and just used the same lenses I already had. I have a 300X zoom!!!!

I went to the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula, Montana for a week with my sister years ago and I was only one of two people still using film in a class of 17. So my sister let me use her second camera, a Canon Rebel. It was so simple to use I was able to complete all the class requirements and more! Great choice Garden, but I'm still partial to my Nikon.....

Lovely pictures. Going out today so will try to get some pictures.

I have just written this on fb

    Dear Cats,
I know it was my birthday but I didn't need the RAT. Luckily the man about the house was first to see it and removed the remains. Despite that I had to clean the carpet. I don't know which one of you brought it in, next time leave it outside please.

Thought I would share it here.

Well I had better move myself as I am being taken out by DD and children.

    Big hugs to all.

Hi garden gumby & SoCal Lisa - nice pic of the same poppy Lisa! on the other thread. Just finally decided to take a look at this thread (age 66, diagnosed at 62) Nice to see you here - love the flower photos, especially at this time of year.
