Lisa what a beautiful place to have lunch!!!  I'm sure it would have helped your digestion with the calmness of your surrounds.  Was the Hibiscus there as well?  Beautiful!

Nancy can you post a pic of the Oriole bird?  I have never seen one........I wonder if I could find it on the net and perhaps a soundtrack of its song?   I'll give it a go......lol.

It is Mother's Day here tomorrow but I have asked the girls not to travel up for the day as I will be in the city on Monday so we can do the celebrations then.........DD1 just rang to ask if I would like to go out for dinner on Monday night so that will be lovely and I'm looking forward to seeing both DDs and grands all in the same place.

I have another treatment for my neck and back on Monday afternoon and then on Tuesday, I have my second adjustment for the new hearing aid.......did I tell you all I'm loving it?.....lol.   It is soooo nice to be able to hear everything!  It proved itself last weekend when I got together with some friends in a group and had no problem hearing anyone.....woohoooo!!

Sounds like my washer has done and it's time to put the clothes into the dryer.   Take care all!

    Love n hugs.    Chrissy

This is my favorite tree!  Split leaf Japanese Maple-I had both red and green ones in the yard of the home I left to move to one level house.  They are dear to my heart because my DH and I planted together 15 years ago. I lost him 3 years ago. I have a beautiful yard where I am now, but none of these beauties-

Lol Barbe, yes I can hear my washer.....a new hearing aid and a washer with a bearing on the way out that makes it sound like a jet about to take off makes it easy......hahahaha!  I have been watching for your email but nada........you may have sent it to an old one.....I'm sure I gave you the current one as it it's the one I have now used for a few years......no matter, I'll PM it again for you.

Wilsie what a beautiful tree and what a wonderful memory for you.  I love it when something lovely sets my memories racing to something even lovelier.

Brigadoon thanks so much for that link, I now know what an Oriole looks like and sounds like........what a very pretty little bird both in looks and song!

SoCalLisa, what a beautiful place to have lunch! Thank you so much for posting the photo. Life is so precious to all of us survivors. I work with a gal in her 40s who walks through the office expressionless and focused. She's missing out and doesn't even know it. Life is beautiful, and fragile, and precious.

wilsie2, I too love a Japanese Maple. My BFF had one in the front yard of the house where she grew up, I miss it to this day. We are going to move to one level living in the next couple of years. Will I gain weight without having to climb the stairs?

Lisa that is a fabulous place to have lunch!  The peace of it would surely aide the digestion.

Wirdgirl I had a house that had many stairs in it and when I moved I didn't put on weight but my legs and butt sure showed the lack!  They sort of lost a bit of their tone.

I love Japanese Maples too. What a great memory.

I am trying to nurse a dogwood tree back to health after having to move it last year because of new septic system installation. My mother had planted it and loved it. I just saw some little sprouts on it the other day. yay

Yay, Chrissy for finding and hearing the bird and the washer. I love my aids as does my daughter. lol

Yesterday my DD and I found this great sink combo for the little house. It has a soapstone sink. Very funky. Now we just have to have it delivered to the island.

imageminus all the stuff on top and inside of it. lol we found it in the back of the store (they were using it but still wanted to sell it.)

Nancy that little sink is lovely!  I can just imagine that in the new kitchen and can't wait to see it installed.

moving to one level is the best thing I ever did. I thank my daughter every day for pushing me to do it. My arthritic dog appreciates no steps, and I now need a hip replacement and am doubly glad. As for weight, I don't think I can blame my weight gain on the steps!

Thanks Chrissy!!! So, to remind y'all, my sister in Portland, Oregon has no idea how she ended up with this item that would have started out in Toronto, Ontario!!! Weird, eh?? Also amazing is that my Mom held on to them for however many years... I would have been 11 when I gave this to her.

MAc I had soapstone in my last house. If you want to bring out the colors you just wipe on some mineral oil when it looks like it needs it. Mine had some green streaks in it that were amazing. I miss my soapstone and hope you enjoy yours.   Your set is going to look just great!

Barbe, how sweet that you made those gifts for your mom and how dear that she kept them!  Must make you feel good.

I, too, love Japanese maples.  They do grow this far south but my attempt to grow one in my yard failed.  However I was not home during the hot summer months to make sure it was watered.  It was pricey, too.  I paid $100 for it at a nursery.

I have not ever seen a soapstone sink but I like the name.

Chrissy, so glad your new hearing aids work well.  I play golf with a woman who won't wear hers on the golf course because she's afraid she'll lose one!  Needless, to say you have to yell to communicate with her.

I normally do not bake but I had my oven going this morning.  I made a box cake, yellow, and iced it with pre-made chocolate icing.  The cake is for a dessert selection tomorrow at my mother's house, where we'll have a family gathering for Mother's Day.  I also made carrot cake cookies following a recipe from Cooking Light magazine.  I sampled one cookie and it tastes good but the texture is odd.  Sort of "rubbery!"  They were supposed to be sandwich cookies sort of like small whoopee pies but I didn't make the filling.  When I figured out the weightwatcher points, the cookies are 4 pts.  I won't be eating many of them!

Tomorrow morning I'll be cooking a large ham and a pot of fresh green beans for the Mother's Day dinner.  Other siblings will be bringing food so it will be a planned potluck.  All in the "comfort food" category.

Happy Mother's Day to you moms!

Hi, Wilsie and Wirdgirl, I don't think I've seen you here before, so welcome!  Glad to have you.

Nancy , love the sink!  It's so old-fashioned looking and I hope you can get it moved and installed very soon.

Oh Barbe, I remember the sweet handmade mother's day gifts we used to make, and receive when our children were young.  It's amazing that your sister had this.

Carole, I'm joining you with the cooking today.  I've just found a recipe for a lemon icebox pie that I hope is the one my mother used to make.  This one calls for egg yolks and Eagle Brand condensed milk.  I remember her using the Eagle Brand but I can't imagine my mother using egg yolks, so we shall see.  I'm also doing potato salad and baked beans and DH will do barbecued chicken.  DD offered to bring something but I just didn't know what to tell her.

Chrissy, so happy your hearing aids are helping already even before another "fine-tuning" session.  I remember my dad fussing about "background noise" with his and quit wearing them altogether.  It's great that they've improved over the past few years.

Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful mothers!

    Kathy

I have been dropping in several places, Faslodex one, Bone mets one, and anything that seems to have an interesting subject line. I am no help when it comes to medical advise, I depend on those who seem to have the knowledge of a research scientist, and I am grateful for their words. I just like to occasionally whine or celebrate, and glad I have fallen in with you who have "sense".  Thanks for welcoming me.  Wilsie

Wilsie2 - We love whine and celebrate people.  We also love sharing the everyday normal.  Just put it all out there.  No censoring here.

My DD and I are so excited about the new sink and this is the vanity we found for the bathroom. We'll probably have to use a vessel sink. The rough plumbing went in yesterday.

I now get to wear a soft cervical collar now at night. Trying to get my neck ache to go away. lol I'll be quite the sight, mouth guard, compression gloves, wrist splints while trying to sleep. I'm so use to all the other stuff I'll probably get use to it too.

Happy Mother's Day to all you lovely Moms out there!!!

I have had a very nice day.......lol.......slept in (always good to do) then did a little laundry (it's never ending), opened up the house to let the weak Autumn sunshine in (it was a perfect day!) and didn't light the fire until about 4.30pm when the sun went and the night air started to come in.  Spoke to both DD's and grandsons and then put a chook (chicken) in the oven to roast along with a heap of veg and that will be dinner.  I had one of those days where you do heaps but nothing.....you know what I mean?

Girls those desserts, cakes and cookies sound great!

Wilsie and Wirdgirl, welcome!   Love having new ladies pop in to share.

Nancy that vanity is gorgeous!  Love the colour!   It might be your little house but boy! am I getting excited to see it all done!.........lol.  Do you get any sleep at all with all that hardware you need to wear to bed? Oh my goodness!

Mmmm smells like the chook needs a look so best go and see that it's not burning.......lol......have a great day all!

    Love n hugs.   Chrissy

It was the background  noise that bothered me with mine as well, so that's one of the reasons I stopped wearing mine. Also, I HATED when a battery died!!! All of a sudden the world tipped sideways......very nauseating! I loved at night when I took them out and was back to my muffled little world. Funnily enough, now I wear ear plugs at night to drown out my DH's snoring!!

My hearing aids were very expensive 10+ years ago, over $3,500!! They had a little remote to use for "plane", "movie/church" "phone" and "normal conversation" and a volume control. Was fun at first and then I got sick of hearing so much crap. Maybe I'll get back to them if they've gotten better.

I cannot possibly see how you can lose a hearing aid!! Mine went right into my ears (they had made a mold first)...but I guess if one was a wild golfer with their swing and wore ones that hooked over the ear.....but then you'd find it quite easily at the tee....heck, I don't know!!!!!!

I have the opposite problem. ..I hear too well. All my life I've had to wear ear plugs.  Everything is too loud and I can hear conversations that I probably shouldn't. But music is the most bothersome. I buy plugs by the dozens.

I wear ear plugs at night, too.  I've probably lost some hearing but still hear fairly well.  I stopped for a free hearing test at Sam's Club some months ago and my hearing was still in the normal range.
