Can I come?!........lol. Your back area looks wonderful Lisa! And you pool so inviting!!
Nancy your little house is starting to look really amazing and I want to thank you for sharing its progress with us. It looks like Spring has finally sprung in your neck of the woods and before you know it summer will be upon you.
We went to a friends birthday bash last night. They live out in the bush so were allowed to build a huge bonfire.......it was such fun! I haven't been to a party like it for years........good music, good down home cooking, great company and a bonfire to top it off!! When I get on the laptop I will share a photo but I can't do it from the iPad as the pic is in Dropbox.
Getting organised to go down t the city for three days this week as I have my appointment with the therapist and then the first fitting of my hearing aid. Unfortunately or fortunately I have a whole day of nothing before I have to meet with the anaesthesiologist for my knee replacement. I can believe that is only a few weeks away..........time sure does fly sometimes! Next weekend is our towns annual Antiques fair and I will, as usual, have a house full and a busy weekend in the shop helping my other half control the crowds.......lol.
Hope your week is a little less hectic than mine......lol.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

I' vejust has four glasses of wine and some pizza with my friends. bestest friends. They are two gay guys who love over the road and they are lovely and they are my best friends.

Lol Aly.....sounds like you've had a few more than four!....hahahaha! Glad you enjoyed them!
0 -
Aly....Aly....Aly!!!! Your typing fingers had way more than four glasses!!!! hehehehehehhehe I LOVE when you say they `love over the road`.....sounds so romantic!
Lisa, I`d like to come for a dip, too!!!!
Chrissy, I canNOT believe your knee surgery is already here!!!! I didn`t realize your DH had an antique store, or am I reading your post wrong? Love it!!!! Enjoy your time with retail therapy as you await your appointment at the hospital! I see a new jumper in your future....or new wool for a new jumper, at least!
0 -
Barbe yes the weeks sure have flown and so will the next four! I have a lot of things to organize before then so things will go smoothly when I get home. The appointment with the anesthesiologist is always done about four weeks before surgery date in case he/she wants extra tests done beforehand and then there is no last minute rush or possible cancellation.
You read my post right.......lol.......my DH has an antique store.....I call it his play pen. He has been collecting for the last forty years and the time has come to get rid of some of it (or all) but he just can't help himself, as he sells he buys a bit more.......lol.
Here's the pic of the bonfire from last night.
Those flames were about fifteen feet high and the heat coming off it was incredible!

Aly you are so funny! Four glasses would put me under the table. It sounds like you had a great time with your friends. That is just such a good thing for us isn't it?
Mac I invited a friend in great need to live with us. I believed I was drawing clear boundaries, and I did. Still the outcome was really sad for me. Having worked in the field for many years I thought I would know how to manage the situation but the end was a repitition of her endings with every other person in her life. How silly I was to think I would be the exception. The story is too complicated to retell here.
A friend has made a film titled Worn Out Welcome Mat, The wage and housing crises in our country has caused huge numbers of people who are homeless to double up. It is a complicated issue and a very real need. If I may, I would suggest donating a service or giving in someway to a local homeless shelter. You would still be helping while not committing your home to her. I know we all want to help others and sometimes we can, but giving through the professional services can do more in the long run.

Alyson, here's to good friends and good times! Glad you had fun.
Chrissy, I surely didn't know your DH had an antique store either. Hope you get first pick! I love the bonfire. Haven't been to one in years and years.
I can't believe your knee surgery's almost here either. Honestly, it seems like time has passed abnormally fast since Christmas to me.
My DH is going on a 4 day kyacking trip with 3 friends on Thursday, and will be gone for his birthday (Friday). Don't recall that ever happening before, but we'll just postpone the celebration this year. I hope to get some cleaning done and some clearing out. Clearing out always works better if he's not here since he's sure he "might need" whatever I want to clear out!
We're waiting for the bad weather to hit. I just heard there are flood warnings out for our county, but so far not a drop of rain has fallen!

I need some advice and where better to come for it than to our thread where we all have Good Sense.
My DH will be out of country for July. I am in a brace for broken back until September. I cannot bend over. I have two dogs, one is large and I cannot walk him. I do have a dog run I can access through a door in the garage and sit inside on a chair while they go out. I have two elderly cats, 17, 18 years and they need to have the liter b ox changed and be fed twice a day. I can feed them but not do the liter box. I do have a cleaning lady every other week.
I need some sort of help while my husband is gone but I am not sure what or how to find this help. You may recall I was stolen from by my first house cleaners in 2010 so I am still kind of afraid. They were bold. My house is where you cant see it from the road or other houses. I don't know anyone here other than my DD and SIL and they work long hours.
Any ideas?

Ginger can some of your church group help on a rosta system so no one is committed for the whole time? If not, what about contacting your doc and asking for recommendations........im sure his NP would have an idea as you wouldn't be the first to need this sort of help.
Hope things can be organized for you in a way that makes you comfortable.
Got my new hearing aid.........finally! Oh what a difference it makes! I can barely feel it in my ear so there us no problem getting used to it. The kids tell me that I am speaking softer too so that's a good thing.......lol.......didn't realise I wad yelling as I couldnt hear myself........lol.
Knee replacement is all set to go, saw the anaesthesiologist this morning so that is all mapped out and all other paper work was lodged yesterday. Just need a blood test and an xray done as well as pick up some Gabapetin fir which I have the script, pack my bag and I'm reafy to go.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

chrissy, my kids told me the same thing about talking more softly when I got my aids. They said they were going to have to get aids, too. lol I am glad they are so comfortable. When is your knee surgery again?
Ginger, I agree with wise chrissy, ask your doc office if he/she has any recommendations. Maybe they could order home aid for you while you are home bound. Maybe insurance would even cover it? Here we also have a company called "Vineyard Village at home" that is just for those times that someone needs some help.
My DD is driving her way across country now. Her life is packed into the back of her car. They drove through some of the tornado damaged area yesterday. She said it was just horrible.
Here's a new pic of the house:

How about a scout group asking if any of the kids wants to earn some spending money to help with the animals.? Or maybe they need some community service hours for a merit badge...or the local 4H clubs...
I know the high schools around here require the students to do so many community service hours even for some baccalaureate programs.
Does the outfit your DH works for have any wives groups?

Nancy the knee surgery is scheduled for 31st May....four weeks away so coming up soon.......lol.
I just read what I posted earlier and laughed myself silly! I was on my phone and there are so many type 'o's' that it's almost like another language.......hahahaha! I'm so glad you were able to understand it!
Your little house is looking fabulous! Keep this pics coming as I'm loving following its progress! Safe driving for your daughter........we hear on the news the devastation that those tornados have caused and so many have lost their lives......very sad.
Lisa great idea about the scouts or the high school kids helping Ginger! I should have thought of that seeing as how I was a cub leader for many years and doing service work is one of the requirements for a badge.
Dinner is ready so time to go eat......yes I'm home and pooped but can't stop yet as there is a busy weekend coming up!
Love n hugs all! Chrissy

I haven't been here in quite awhile. Just a thought - Looking in the mirror I have two circles on my Foobs where my nipples use to be. I have an anchor shaped scar from my belly button to the smile scar from hip to hip, I have sags and wrinkles that I thought would never happen when I was young. I will probably need a full hip replacement as the C has eaten up my hip. BUT I know who I am and it has taken a lifetime to get here. It is all good.

Great post, Brigadoon! I feel much the same. I savor the good things in life. Like the wonderful weather we had today. And an afternoon spent with my 91 yr. old mother. I took her to a supermarket where she rode up and down the aisles in the motorized shopping scooter, gazing at the selections and making her choices. She was shocked at the total price as am I. Everything is so expensive. But why save money when the clock is ticking?

Thanks friends. I think I will talk to my vet to see if there are any pet sitters on staff there.
We moved here four years ago between my DX ,surgery and then treatment chemo and rads out here. It was terrible timing on my part wasn't it?
If I was back in Illinois it wouldn't be a problem, I had friends from church and life, children and in-laws I could have called on. We all know a social problem occurs when people become disconnected from their communities and I am experiencing it. I was always connected, a lifetime of connections, and now I don't know any friends and only know people from the Doctors. I am in an unincorporated area and if I don't make some sort of big effort to get reconnected I don't think it is going to happen. I always had something to offer, work, transportation, fund raising and all that sort of thing. I offered service and now I need service and really don't feel at all good about that. I have always suspected it is easier to give than receive. Now I am sure of it.
I need to humble myself and let go of any idea of actually being independent.Your ideas are always appreciated and welcome. This group BCO has helped me so much over these years.
Venting on you, sorry.
Love Ginger

Vent away Ginger you know we are always here for you. I hear you on moving to other places and being disconnected........sort of did the same thing myself when we moved here. It's hard to ask for help when we have been so independent and the ones giving the help for so long but sometimes we just have to swallow our pride, bite the bullet and yell from the roof tops that we need help!........well, maybe not quite so loudly but you get the picture........lol. It's surprising the help that is offered once it is known that you need it. Good luck!
Brigadoon great post! Yes, it's good to be able to look at our bodied and know that for every little imperfection and scar there is a life time of stories behind them and oh! If those imperfections could talk just think of the books that could be written!.......lol
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Had my annual single mammogram...good to go...

Great news, Lisa! Such a feeling of relief!
Ginger, I can only imagine how hard it is to find help when you have no connections in the area, but I do think the vet is a good starting place. Also, you could consider teenagers who might like to earn money during the summer and would walk dogs and keep the litter box changed. If you have a church, or even if you don't, many of them have youth groups who also need service hours or perhaps money for summer trips.
Loved your post, brigadoon. We're all a product of our experiences both good and bad, and sometimes you can see the scars.
Got the date down now Chrissy, and it's a good thing you've got so much of the preliminaries already done---it'll be here before you know it. New hearing aid and new knee to boot!
Nancy, the house looks better and better as time goes on!

Yes, great news Lisa. time for a sigh of relief.
Chrissy, we'll be with you through the new knee procedure. You know what they say we really only need a few letters to figure out what someone is trying to say when writing. All the typos help keep our minds sharp.
Ginger, at least you have some time to get some plans in place. This will spur you on to reach out to the community. Meeting people and forging friendships can be hard work. We'll be with you. Another thought, is there a cancer support group (American Cancer Society) in the area?
Did anyone see the US national news with the segment about early stagers BC patients having a hard time getting their lives and employment options back on track after tx. A physician was filmed saying the medical profession has to be more realistic about how tx affects us and be honest with us. I know if I didn't own a business I wouldn't be able to hold down a regular job any more.
Cousin update: she is not moving east! She is figuring it out where she is. We're staying in touch, but she finally heard what I was saying.
The electrician and plumber are working on the house now. Then the windows will come in. My DD gets here Sat. night.
brigadoon, good way to look at what we've been through. I would not appreciate where and who I am without all the experiences it took to get this far.

Mac, I did see it on NBC Nightly News...wish my DH had been home to see it especially the part about no energy...
I did my chemo 13 years ago now and if I had known what they know today, I would never had done that for what my
DX was. They didn't have ONCO DX or much of anything. Arimidex still had not been approved by the FDA...but what is done is done and now I have a fried liver from the miasma of crapola I was given.
But I am still here...
I saw my liver doctor today and he was surprised...

wow, Lisa, we are glad you are still here and taking pictures.
I know about wanting certain people to watch the segment on the news. I always think if I could just pull it together, I'd be able to do more. People that come in the shop are always so happy about me being "back to work", if they really knew how little I can do now. And my brain just does not work the same way. But I am here, as you say, and enjoying my days and my friends and family. I am so grateful!!!

Macatacmy - I did not see the segment but will look for it tomorrow. I can't imagine having to go to work right now. I can't even put an hour in the garden. In the same vein - I am fortunate enough to have 100% health coverage and when I first started this journey I was free to concentrate on what I needed to do and not having to fight hospitals and insurance companies for approval and payments. I don't know how people handle that either.
Lisa - Congrats on the good report. I hold my breath at every scan. Lately I haven't had much to be relieved about so I am doubly happy to celebrate with you!

Good news on the mammo, Lisa!

Yay Lisa!!!! That's great news!!!! I hear you all on the no energy thing and I really have to push to get things done. If I have a busy few days it can take me a week before I have my energy restored.
Hind sight is always twenty/twenty but the decisions that we made years ago were based on knowledge at that time. Times and treatment change, ideas come and go but we can only do our best with the information we have at that time.
Have a good day all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Lisa, I cannot believe it`s your mammo time again!! Seems like just yesterday you had your last one! Great news, though...
I think what we all forget, and my daughter-in-law reminded me about, is that we are OLDER than we were when we went through the surgeries and, or treatments. That in itself is a kicker! She was talking about me losing weight and how tough it`s been, but it does apply to anything as we age. We would be getting aches and pains from ageing alone, and we have to remember that. Dealing with cancer was just adding insult to injury!

Barbe 1958 - That is a good point. I always have to ask myself, is this the cancer or arthritis, pollen, not drinking enough water. I am so bad about reviewing my symptoms compared to prior experiences.

Some days I feel this old...

Love it Lisa.
It is something I think we have to remember -we are getting older. A friend was looking at a list of things that happen with menopause and it could have been the SEs for an AI.
Have had a lovely few says away and now it's all on getting ready for my trip.

Lisa, just hope we can stay as well preserved!
Alyson, where are you going? If I'm supposed to know, please forgive my faulty memory.
