so good to see both 3jays and Leah.

    3jays, sent ya a pm.

Leah, I am glad you got to the service, even if you couldn't stand like you used to. May your year have improved health!!!

I knew it was Yom Kippur because there was some heated discussion here about how a "Harvest Festival" was scheduled on the same day. It was suppose to be for the whole community, but someone did not check out the calendar very well when scheduling.

I have to have a tooth extracted now. I've gotten 3 temp crowns in 3 weeks but now the one that I crunched cannot be saved. But I need a surgeon dentist and he will be on island next friday, but I don't think I can wait that long. My stomach is starting to hurt from taking so much Tylenol along with my napraxon. So another trip is in my near future.

    How was the competition, chrissy.

    shout out to wilsie!

Wow Nancy!!!  That is stunning!!!   I can just see the floor peeking through the cardboard covering and it looks great and then I get a great big eyefull in the upstairs room!  Wow!!!  I bet you can't wait to be sitting on that patio area watching the boats go by.

Well, I have obviously returned.....lol......I got home earlier this evening utterly exhausted but I had a fun weekend with my daughter and I did so love watching her compete.  For a girl who was hoping for a fifth place in the Nationals she was just about blown away when they called her name for a first place followed later in the day with a second and then a third place!   She was walking on air last night as we headed for the airport and the two and a half hour flight home. One very happy satisfied young woman and a very happy, proud mama....lol.  I took a heap of pics so once I download them I will share a couple!

    Love n hugs all!    Chrissy

Mac, the house is really cute!  Ditto to Wilsie's comment that there's nothing "cookie cutter" about it.

Chrissy, how exciting for you and your daughter for her to take three prizes, including a 1st!!!!  I don't know anyone who has a bodybuilder daughter.  Except you!

Mac,  I love your house!  The built-ins are really cool.  Makes me want to move and start over again...almost.  Lol

3jays,  Good to hear from you!  I'm sorry you are having 'episodes'.  Sure hope they figure it out soon.  I will keep you in my prayers.

Chrissy,  How exciting for your DD!  She looks so fantastic, I'm not surprised she did so well.  Can't wait to see pics!  Hope you are doing well.

I have done 8 rads, 26 to go.  Skin is turning pink, but no discomfort yet.  RO suggested that I buy emu oil to use on my breast.  Have any of you ladies tried it?  I bought some today and plan on using it tonight.  My neuropathy is still annoying the daylights out of me!  I am praying that it goes away.  On the plus side, my edema has gotten MUCH better!

Hoping you are all having a peaceful evening,  lilyrose

3jays, it's wonderful to see you!  Just wish you weren't doing those face plant things.  I hope the drs can soon get it figured out and hopefully there'll be a solution.  Good thing Mur was there!  I'll look for that super thrive next year since everything's over now--flowers gone, vegetables too.  DH planted some greens, which I do not care for and that's all that's left.  It was 39 degrees here yesterday morning, and yes, the heat was definitely on!

Leah, I'm glad you got to attend part of the service even if you couldn't stand the whole time.  I'm sure that would not have been good for you.  Good to see you posting and I hope with the end of this xeloda cycle you'll see improvement.

Nancy, I'm amazed with what you've done with your house.  It's really looking great!  I love the color of the bathroom vanity, and all that storage space.  And built in bureaus?  Love it!  Sorry about your tooth and hope you can get something done very soon.  Dental pain is horrible.

Chrissy, you have every right to be a proud mama and your DD should be very proud of herself!  I'm looking forward to seeing the pics!

The Outer Banks fishing trip started this morning.  DH left at 5:00 AM and has called to let me know he's arrived.  Bud the Dog and I are doing quite well.  Late this afternoon I learned that the "pre-orders" for the church bazaar are to be picked up this Sunday, so I know I'll be making several (like 8-10) chicken pot pies and freezing them this week.  So much for other plans, I guess.

Hope we all have a good week!

chrissy , wow on your DD winning 1st in Nationals!! Sounds like a best in show to me!!

kathy, sounds like you will be busy and not miss DH too much. One of those chicken pot pies sounds good to me. I had a baked potato for dinner, eating all things soft for now.

you are right, nothing cookie cutter about this house. We have a meeting with the contractor tomorrow morning to go over the finishing details. SO hopefully soon it will be done!!!!

First the good news, I got the results from my biopsy this morning. It was Basal cell and he got clear margins. Yipee!! On to healing!!

Then I managed to get an appt with a dentist off island this afternoon for the extraction. It was just going to be local novacaine and I was ok with that. So a friend and I waited in the stand by line to get my car off so we could drive to the doctor's office. Of course I had to fill out a medical questionnaire and list my medications. He did not like that I have been taking Napoxen and tylenol for the pain. He wanted me to be on an antibiotic. Then he wanted me to get blood work done so he could be sure of my platelet level. He is more cautious than my BS. So even tho I was all suited up and had taken my little helpers to keep me calm and all the instruments were out on the table, he postponed the extraction. I was so bummed. On the paperwork he stated that the reason he wanted blood work was because of my Tamoxifen script.  We went to the hospital and had my lab work done and now I have to go back Friday morning. I had a nice nap in the car on the way home.

    has anyone heard from barbe?

    Love the picture, Lisa.

Lilyrose, I use emu oil as a moisturizer on my face and arms occasionally.  I bought it from a company online.  It was recommended by a friend who uses it.  I didn't realize you could buy it from a store.  I use more conventional moisturizers, too.  My dermatologist like Amlactin lotion for use on arms, legs, body.  It's available over the counter.  At one time I bought it with a prescription.

DH had an allergic reaction to Amlactin.  He uses the emu oil on his arms.  His skin is thin and he has bruising from taking a blood thinner.

I was wondering if Barbe had any luck selling her house.

Today I plan to take my mother to a dr apptment.  Then we'll have lunch at a casual restaurant that has good seafood.  She will be 92 in Dec. and is still living alone in her house.  She has mobility problems.  Fortunately, I'm still strong enough to manage loading her wheelchair into the trunk of my car.  She has an electric wheel chair but I don't have a carrier for it on my car.  This apptment is a regular checkup.  She was supposed to go this summer but waited until I got home.  She doesn't want to "bother" other family members but doesn't mind "bothering" me!

    Happy Tuesday!

Lilyrose, DH makes his own skin lotion and emu oil is one of the ingredients. I don't know what all else is in it, but he uses the mixer and does a big batch at one time.

lily, how you doing? Are you using the emu oil? (Does emu oil come from the bird?) I used aquafor or aloe vera gel during rads. I soaked a couple of t-shirts (just the chest area) in the aquafor and they would feel so nice and cool against my skin. I know a lot of people don't like it because of the grease and stain factor, but once I stopped worrying about my clothes..... I went with the advice of my RO and the rads nurse. By the end I was using a prescription, but they knew their stuff about providing comfort. Another thing they told me was to get a baby teething gel ring. It doesn't freeze all the way and it worked on the hot spots. Hope you are weathering the rads routine.

carole, I forgot all about barbe selling her house. Thanks for reminding me. Hope your lunch with your mom went well. My mom lived until she was 91. Are your siblings men? My mother didn't like bothering my brother, but I truly miss the time we got to spend together, now that she is gone.

Anyone getting up for the luna eclipse? Someone gonna get pictures?  I will be snoozing, if I know me.

It's a bit lonely here tonight.  I pm'ed Barbe and she said she's okay, so that's good.

Lilyrose, I also used the aquaphor during rads---it's a greasy mess indeed!  Near the end, the radiologist told me to use Eucerin lotion so I switched to that.  I never tried the emu oil but lots of people recommend it.

Carole, it's remarkable that your mother is able to remain in her home at 92. My mother died at 63 but my dad lived until 93, with his last year being spent in a nursing home.  I was wondering the same thing as Nancy, if your siblings were boys.

And Nancy, no.  I will definitely not be up for the lunar eclipse!  I doubt I could see it due to all our trees, but maybe DH will get a good look on the coast.

Kathy,  Thanks for the info!  I have been using aquaphor...and yes...it IS greasy!  I have been wearing DH's old soft undershirts under my clothing.  The emu oil seems a little less greasy.  I'm hoping it works!  We used to go to the Outer Banks every summer with our kids.  Loved it there!  I would love to order one of your chicken pot pies!  😋

Carole,  I bought the emu oil at a local grocery store that carries mostly organic foods and supplements.  My RO told me to go there for it.  I hope you had a nice day with your mom!  My mom died almost 3 years ago at age 93.  She also had some mobility issues after breaking both of her hips.  But managed quite well with a walker.  I still miss her everyday.

Mac,  Yes, emu oil comes from the bird.  My RO tells me it has worked well for a lot of women.  I'll try anything!  Lol  And I think I am doing pretty good.  Feeling a little stronger every day.  I'm hoping the rads don't knock me down again.  I hope you get your dental issues taken care of.

Lisa,  Those moon shots are amazing!  Love the butterfly!  That's a Monarch?

    Chrissy,  Where are you???

Wishing you all well,  hugs,  lilyrose

Hi girls!!  Sorry I was MIA but I was just so pooped after the weekend away with my DD starting with an early flight on Friday and then a full on weekend including a 3.45am start on Sunday followed by a full day of comp followed by a mad dash to return our rental car and then a courtesy vehicle to the air port for a 7.00pm flight home.  We arrived at 10.30pm and after helping DD remove the tan we both fell into bed.  Luckily I was able to sleep late before driving home but have been really, really lacking energy but thankfully I am finally on the up.  Sorry to make you all worry.

Lisa I did see the eclipse last night as it was around 9.00pm at it's fullest here......it was really interesting but I couldn't get good shots like you did......they are amazing!  Even with my strongest zoom lens, I couldn't get enough light to register.........maybe we are further away than you were.  That butterfly is stunning!!  You have even captured great boker which makes the butterfly really stand out.  Is the white flower a magnolia?  It's lovely.

LillyRose I'm so glad you are feeling better........the rads are cumulative and the tiredness will get somewhat worse before it gets better.  The Emu Oil works a treat!  There are so many women who have used it and sworn by it.........I'm really amazed that your onc actually recommended it but good for him!

Kathy doesn't sound like you are going to get much R & R while your DH is on his fishing trip!  Hopefully you will have enough time left to do some of the things you want to get done.........by the by, I love chicken pot pies!....lol.

Leah, this disease really does make us make sacrifices and some of the treatments are really horrendous.......the good thing is though that we are still here.  Sorry that the Xeloda is kicking your butt but I'm hoping it's really kicking cancer's butt!

Yay Nancy!!!  Great news that your biopsy was a BCC and the second bit of good news is that the biopsy got it all..woohoo!!!!   Definitely on to the healing bit!  Good luck on Friday for your return trip to the dentist.....hope all goes to plan this time.

Carole I hope you had a nice day with your mom........it is hard when the aged parent seems to rely heavily on only one of the children.......my mother did the same thing to my elder sister even though my other sister and I were always willing to do what ever was needed.  For us it seems it was all something to do with being the eldest daughter........I wonder if it isn't something like that for you?

    How are you doing Wilsie?

Okay girls, a couple of pics of the weekend.  The first one was taken by another competitor on DD's phone but I thought you might like to see it.....lol.

wow, what great pictures and so much work I know.

3jays, wondering if you have what my husband suffered with......many trios to Dr and ER until finally diagnosed. Neurocardiogenic syncope. They did the tilt test finally and it made him pass out. Controlled by med.....got much better. Eventually had to have cardiac ablation, but many people are controlled by cardiac  drugs. You may want to read up and see if it matches your symptoms. My best friends dad fell backwards with it and had a bad concussion...we diagnosed him before the doc.....who wondered how we knew it!

Beatmon, isn't it amazing how educated we become when we're introduced to a medical condition that previously didn't exist for us?

The husband of a golf friend has a rare condition that causes his tongue to bleed.  He just had some sort of laser surgery on his tongue.  The name of the problem is so long and complicated that I can't remember it.  It's genetic.  This was a topic of conversation over lunch after golf yesterday.

I went to my hair stylist this morning and we decided not to color my gray roots that I grew over the summer away from home.  She gave me a very short cut to remove as much of the colored hair as possible.  Once my hair is all gray, I'll decide whether I like the color.  If I don't, I'll go back to artificial color.  It would be so much easier and less expensive to go "natural."  This style is probably a little too short but short is so easy!  And easy is good.

Chrissy, you and your daughter look so happy together in that picture!  Really nice to see.

Guess I should get off my rear end and do some more chores around the house.

Lisa, That picture of your DGD ? startled me!  How did my DGD get on BC.Org?!  Took me a second to figure out she's one of yours, not one of mine.  Cute kid.  And what a wonderful sport for girls.  Love all your photos.  Jan

Nancy, hope all is well after your dentist appointment yesterday.  Thinking about you.

Hi Beatmon and Jan, it's good to see you both!

Chrissy, your DD is stunning and that's a great picture of the two of you!  You look like one proud mama, and you certainly should be.  Congrats to her.

DH returns at last late tomorrow afternoon.  I haven't been able to do diddly in the house this week since I cooked until Thursday night.  Best laid plans, you know.  We all thought we had another week until we were told that pre-orders had to be in by Sunday.  Oh well, it made the week go by quickly at least.  I did vacuum and mop the kitchen, the site of the chicken pot pie massacre, and did a bit of laundry, but that's all.

Lisa, great pic of your DGD.  I love her orange shoes!   Orange has always been my DD's favorite color, and I like it too.  Are those flowers zinnias?

I'm going to read a while before I take Bud the Dog out for hopefully the last time tonight.  He usually goes into a decline when DH is gone but this time it hasn't been too bad.  Poor dog will have to learn a new routine tomorrow night though, because I've let him sleep on the bed with me this week.

Hi girls!!!  Hang onto your hats, I'm about to brag again!!........lol.

DD has been in Sydney competing in the Nationals for the ANBA (Australian National Bodybuilders Association) this weekend and has just notified me that she has done it again!!!!  Yes she has scooped the pool again and taken out the overall title for Figure Bodybuilding and been presented with her Pro card (not sure what that means exactly but I know it's something big!).  This is a different Association than the one she competed with last week.

    image

She is going to have fun trying to get the three cups that she won back home on the plane as well as her luggage but I guess she will work something out.  This was her last comp for the year so I know she will be glad to resume her normal diet as the one she has had to follow for the comps has been brutal.......needless to say, mama is happy that she will be eating normally again....lol.

Beatmon nice to see you!  How are you doing?

Carole, you are right, short hair is just so easy and I know you will love it once you get used to it.  I have recently had mine cut really short again (although summer is not quite here....lol) but it is easy to just get up and go or style it up with a pair of mini flat irons to give it some lift for something special.  Hope you like the 'natural' you!

Lisa watching grands play soccer is so special!  I used to love going to watch the grand sons play when they were in primary school.  Is that a hawk that you captured?  Gorgeous bird and lovely flowers!

    Hi Jan!

Nancy how is your mouth feeling?  Hope all went well for you and the healing won't take too long for you.

Kathy I know you always look forward to your DH returning from his annual fishing trip.......strange how we long for some peace and quiet without them until it happens and then we want them home right quick smart......lol.  Sorry you didn't get a chance to do some of the things you planned other than massacre a few chicken pot pies.....the best laid plans etc......lol.  Bud will wonder what's going on when he is no longer allowed to sleep on the bed with you when DH returns.......like all animals they like their little treats and comforts........he will get used to the 'normal' quick enough......lol.

Hoping all are well......take care all!

    Love n hugs.    Chrissy

wow, chrissy, the competitions are so close together. That is wonderful that she aced it once again. Now some much deserved rest. That cup is huge!! It will need it's own seat on the plane.

I am starting to feel better. I'm cutting back on the pain meds. I think my jaw is a bit out of place, but hopefully that will settle down soon. Still on my very soft diet. My DD made me a very nice Carrot-Ginger soup. It is delish but after eating it for 3 days now I'm ready for some variety.

I have a dr appt this morning (yes, sunday morning) It is my pain doc she comes only a few days a month. She'll get a kick out of me this time, stitches in my mouth and my back. I've all ready postponed this appt once, so better to go and face the music. My routine has been blown by the different procedures. I have not exercised in weeks, my supplements are not being taken, My sleep habits are all messed up. Oh well, easy enough to remedy.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend. Here it is a long holiday weekend. Columbus Day is monday. In Canada it is their Thanksgiving. Is it anything special in NZ or Austrialia?

  • chrissyb
    chrissyb Member Posts: 11,438

No special Holidays here Nancy so it's back to work for those who do tomorrow.  For me it will be getting my laundry done as I have been lax these last few days....lol.

Glad to hear that your mouth is on the mend and you are needing less pain meds........that's always a good sign. Gosh I sure hope that you jaw is not out of place as that will cause the joint to wear unevenly and cause arthritis there and, take it from me, arthritis in the TMJ joint is not good.  I have already had surgery on mine and cortisone injected into the joint to help.

I wonder what your pain doc will say about your messed up routine...........probably just give you a look and tell you to try harder.......lol.  Good luck with it all!

Nancy it just depends when the different associations decide to run but it really is easier in a way for the competitors to have the comps close as it is easier for them to keep the diet and exercise routine going.  I know DD prefers it this way as the diet is really so grueling that if you stop it would be too hard to start again if the comps were say a couple of months apart or way too hard on their bodies if they were to keep the diet going at comp level for that long.

    Love n hugs.   Chrissy
