Hey chrissyb, I still have no sense but had to stop by to say I was so sorry to hear about AJ too. I knew her mostly from the time some of us got to meet up with you and Marybe. Good to see that you are still globetrotting and I enjoyed those pics of France (jealous!)

I am so very saddened by the news of Amy Jo's passing. She was one of the sweetest women here. May G-d send comfort to her family.

Chrissy, are you home yet?

Hi Girls!!! Home at last! I have been sleeping pretty much since we got home but am beginning to feel a little more normal.....lol...if that is possible.....lol.
I have downloaded most of my pics but now comes the sorting but I will have some to share shortly. Stay tuned!
We had such a wonderful trip and it seems like it was ages ago even though it is just a few days but I'm getting loads of memories jogged as I go through my pics.......there are sooooo many! I even have amazed myself at the quantity I took. It is already Summer weather at home even though the calendar says Spring and my old body is having a bit of a hard time adjusting to it being 10 to 15 degrees celcius higher than it was in France. I will adjust soon, I hope.
Lisa, I've been meaning to ask, how is your arm doing?
Love n hugs all. Chrissy

Hey All!!
I am so sorry to hear about AJ. This cruel disease takes way too many sweet souls!
I have been traveling too. It has taken me some time to recover from all the energy extended and get through all my book work and other necessary stuff before I checked in with all of you!
I took my daughter and a friend to St John for a warm lovely week. The water was so clear and warm. We did lots of swimming and I even got to snorkel.
Then we were home for 2 weeks and off to Minneapolis to see my oldest nephew and his family. This is the son she gave up for adoption at birth and they found each other just 90 days before she died (from BC). He looks so much like her!! His boys are 7 and 15 now. We had a great time catching up. My DD went with me again. I think she worries about me and won't let me go off on my own. haha. We took a side trip up to the "North Shore" of Lake Superior. Since I live by the ocean it was so different by a huge lake. The huge iron ore tankers (ships) and docks were amazing. It even snowed for us.
I did manage to slide down a stair case unexpectedly. So my back and neck were all out of whack. I was carrying some stuff down a carpeted set of stairs in my socks and my feet went out from under me. So I've been to the chiropractor, acupuncturist, pain doc for some lidocaine shots and had a massage. Now I can move and sit for periods of time again. Oh gosh, this getting older is a pain in the butt.
I am still having work done on the house. we gotten most of the paint on the outside, especially the doors and I have all the door knobs in, except one was defective so am awaiting a new ones arrival, Sheesh always something.
My super sweet, super smart and super sensitive dog decided she didn't like the dog door the contractor had installed so I am having another installed that opens automatically when the dog walks up to it (by a sensor on her collar). It is mainly installed but the guy has to come back tomorrow to hook it up to the electricity. I'll report more on that. haha
Now we are gearing up for Thanksgiving. My DS will be home, so a great excuse to cook lots of food and eat.
Oh I am so worried about the world we are living in. So much hate and discord.
I pray you are all healthy (it's relative, isn't it?) and safe!

Chrissy, my arm is still a work in progress, or not....it seems that one of the screws on the upper part of the rod is undoing and causing me alot of pain. The doctor says he can take it out, but not until my bone has healed some more. I see him on Dec. 7th and have new xrays taken and see where we stand. I sure hope I don't have to go back in the hospital. I am getting pretty good now at doing things one handed. I can use my left hand now, just not the arm very much.
It was 90 degrees here yesterday. We were at my granddaughter's soccer match. We are expecting a cold front to move in with maybe a little rain for Thanksgiving. I just got some new eyeglasses. I tried on some of the "new" frames, but they reminded me of my standard issue Navy ones from 50 years ago, so I went with ones almost like my old ones.
I remember 9 years ago in chat, wondering about my almost granddaughter being born in the Spring. She is 8 1/2 now . I so miss that chat room. We solved so many problems. listened to so many fears and formed friendships that even blossomed into real life meetings...
Here is my granddaughter from yesterday

What wonderful pictures, Lisa. I love the flamingos forming a heart! Your granddaughter is so beautiful. Doesn't the time seem to fly by when we look at children growing. I hope your bone has healed enough to take out those painful screws. Our bodies don't like foreign material inside, do they?
I am in the beautiful house by the sea! That is the house I have been renovating and will be my forever house. I got the utility sink installed in the mudroom this week and the shelf with hooks to hang my coats. So that will improve the flow into the house. Update on the dog door, the dog is getting use to it. She wears a magnetic ship on her collar so when she gets near the door it opens then closes softly behind her. It will keep out all other animals, humans included. I think she is milking the getting a treat for using it.
Aly, love the thought of all you "gals" meeting up and having a laugh and a chat! I love the picture since it is so nice to be able to put faces to the posts.
Chrissy, your hair has gotten longer. I know you enjoyed your trip! I sure you are busy, busy.
When I got home from Minnesota, I was sooo tired, it took me a few weeks to bounce back. Everything feels so overwhelming when it piles up in our absence, doesn't it.
I am going to the city next week for my annual mammo and seeing my BS. I am pretending it is no big deal. My DD is going with me so we will spend the night off island and get in some Christmas Shopping. Even tho, I just spent 10 minutes on Amazon and bought all the items in my cart that I had been saving up for gifts. It's too easy!

It seems to me when I took Psych 101 55 year ago, Pavlov found out that intermittent, non predictable positive reinforcement worked better than constant reinforcement, at least as far as dogs were concerned...anyone remember that?

I can't wait to see the forever home pictures.

okay, you are saying it's okay for me to be inconsistent with training my dog. haha My DD textes me from next door when I don't hear the dog barking to get in. I yell out "you have your own door" then she'll run over to that door and waits for me to pull out the treat then hop through the door. I'm not seeing the difference between just getting up and letting her in the regular door. I guess it's a work in progress.

SoCalLisa...yup I remember that....Intermittent (inconsistent) reinforcement is the most effective reinforcement!!

Well, I took my dog to a Positive rewards puppy training class when she was 6 months old. The whole rewards thing was every time the dog did something good and withheld when you weren't happy with the behavior. This made the puppy pay attention to you. So now I have a super attentive dog but she wants something from me every time she does something good. So she will do her whole arsenal of tricks without me saying a word, then wait for the reward. There is no just sit. She sits, then lays down, then sits back up to shake hands all in an almost fluid motion. But she does want my approval for things, like using the dog door when I just want her to be a dog and run outside to play.
I am not complaining at all. She really is a great joy and so much company on these cold dreary nights.
So I called my heating company today to have them come over and check out my heating system. The kitchen and living room were so much colder than the bedrooms. The guy came right over and went up in the attic and changed out the filters which had gotten clogged from all the construction. Then he explained to me that when the green light was lit on the thermostat in the living room the system was turned on, if the light was off the system was off. Oh, I said, you mean it wasn't turned on? oh boy, what an adventure it is being me.

Hi Macatacmy: So enjoyed your description of your dogs behaviors and waiting for a reward. I too have a doggie door but I got in the habit of letting my dog out frequently during the day - I'm retired - so he does not use the doggie door. However, he does use it at my DS house because her dog uses it and I do feel that if he really needed it at home he knows where it is - although I think that even for an occasional 6 hour day when I'm away he sleeps and goes when I get home. I forgot that sometimes he pushes the flap on the doggie door if I've ignored him and then like his well trained person I let him out the door

I have been reading some of these posts tonight.
I am 79 and DX August 31, 2015 with HER2+.
I had one treatment of Taxol, but side effects were bad so I had to stop.
Now I am on weekly, Herceptin, and I get sick for one or two days after the treatment.I have bladder sensitivity, gasto problems, general malaise
I will have radiation in the new year sometime.
I am scared, feel weak and like I can't do much of anything.Very low.
I know that is mostly emotional as so many people have much worst situations than I do.

NanaJA, Hugs. Of course you're scared. We all were. I'm sorry the herception is giving you nasty side effects. Do the gastro problems etc. come with the treatment, or were they present already? Do you have support from family or friends? Most cancer treatment programs have a social worker you can talk to or counselors you can see. I think it helps to have a place where you don't have to look brave and positive. And of course, this is one of those places as well. If you can't eat all the time, try to get as many nutrients in as possible when you do feel like eating. My DIL (daughter in law) got a smoothie maker and let us try one of her smoothies. It had a lot of spinach, a banana, and some milk (maybe soy or almond). It tasted pretty good and counted for one fruit and one vegetable. Please continue to post here. Lots of nice women who will be supportive.

Nana, so sorry you are going through all this, especially this time of year with short bright days...and it is hard to see the end of the tunnel...it is hard to balance what the medical community wants to do with what you are going to feel it OK with you. are there any groups of ladies going through the same things where you are? it really does help to have give and take talks with similar people. Many times we "older" ladies have different perspectives on our own treatments. I know I do.
here is a cheerful little flower that opened up today here after the rain
