Wow! Love the clarity of those pics LIsa!!! Gorgeous!!

Well, what a year!! For some a great one for others not so good but overall a year to remember. For myself it has been a very busy one and one with a lot of emotional ups and downs.........here's hoping the New Year brings with it only good things for all of us.

Today is the day I make the Dutch traditional New Year fare.........apple flappen and olle bolen. The first is an apple fritter covered in powdered sugar and the second is a yeast based soft dough with black currents and deep fried then covered with powdered sugar. My hubby loves them (he is Dutch) and would eat them every day but making them once a years is quite enough........lol. Thank goodness the kids are not at home or I would have to make a whole heap more as I used to! Tonight will be a quiet one for hubby and I although I'm sure we will hear the celebrations that will be happening throughout our small town........thank goodness our little dog is deaf so she will not be panicked by the sound of the fire works being set off.

Wishing all you lovely ladies a wonderful, safe, healthy and prosperous New Year! May all your hopes be bought to fruition in 2016!

Love n hugs to all! Chrissy

Chrissy, the apple flappen sounds yummy....Recipe please! We have NO plans for NYE...but that's how we like it. DS will be out with friends as usual, and DD#2 is in NY and NJ visiting friends!!! When I asked her tonight what she was doing tomorrow night, she had a great answer.....so funny coming from a 17 year old!! She will be with her girl friends in NJ. She's back east till the 4th. Thinking of making pizza for DH and me tomorrow night....My New Years Day tradition is chicken wings and potato knishes so that is what we will have for Shabbat dinner.

Here's wishes for only good things in 2016. DD#1 and I both have milestone birthdays (yes after cancer every b'day is a milestone), I will be twice as old as her!! and DD#2 graduates from high school....Now here's to good health in 2016. Karen

We're invited to a party at a friend's. We've been before and the people are very nice. I will have my usual problem of people remembering me and me not remembering them. I wish people would wear name tags. I have trouble remembering people I met last week, let alone a year ago.

It's our wedding anniversary. In retrospect, it's not a good day to choose. Going out is always crowded and extremely expensive. The day before would have been a better choice. We usually get something for the house. I think it will be a new microwave. I wish it was new furniture, but that's just too much money at this time.

Wishing everyone enough in the coming year.

Every year my friends and I toast the New Year with a remark that it has to be better than the old one. Well, I can’t help but think G-d is saying “you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.” We made that toast last year--and were presented with a year during which DH was nearly killed by a botched routine diagnostic procedure, I got bc, a dear friend went into end-stage COPD and then broke her hip, the mother of another close friend learned she had Stage IV pancreatic cancer, and her own mother’s non-small-cell lung cancer came out of remission. So this year I’m just going to say “Happy New Year,” without comment on the relative merits of the incoming and outgoing years.

I'm doing what I love to do best on New Year's Eve- staying home....its just another night of the week. I'm making pizza and salad for dinner. DD#2 is in NY/NJ visiting friends. DS is here, but he always goes out with friends.

Wishes for only good things in 2016!!!

New Years Day here, it's hot so I'm just relaxing in the air conditioning watching netflix. Just a very quiet New Years Eve for us, hubby didn't even see in the New Year but that's okay. .....lol.....he is an early to bed early to rise sort of guy. The sweet treats I made yesterday are almost all gone......not surprising as they are DH's favorites.

Stay safe and enjoy what ever you are doing.

Nice sunny New Year's Day here. Very cold, but cheerful with the sun. We went to a party last night that was like attending a banquet/feast. I have never seen so much awesome food. My scale says I indulged. We came home before midnight and watched the local fireworks on TV with our sparkling cranberry-apple juice. I'm so used to going to bed at 10:30, I was asleep by 12:15.

The best sweet treat at the party was "Victoria Brittle" which was the man's great aunt's recipe. It's a lot like peanut brittle, but made with almonds and chocolate added toward the end. I'm really glad it's not available to buy in a store.

For the past 30 years we have spent New Year’s Eve with another couple. We have dinner and play bridge and toast in the New Year quietly. Every year we switch houses. My turn this year. Too muchwork but a fun way to get together. Happy New Year ladies.

The three of us hosted dinner for 8 of our friends at our local wine-centric restaurant. I nursed a single flute of cava and a couple ounces of Pinot Noir--a far cry from past NYEs when I would have an aperitif and a different wine for each of four courses. We bought a couple of bottles for the table and took some of it home. I had shrimp/mango seviche (with my annual ration of home-fried tortilla chips), lobster bisque, grilled escolar over Tuscan white beans and dark chocolate mousse torte. Other guests had stuffed mushrooms, fritto misto, salads, salmon, steak, creme brulee and cheesecake. 5 of us made it back to my place, where though I’d chilled 3 bottles of bubbly (Perrier-Jouet ’99 and Thienot champagnes, Mumm’s Napa DVX 2006), we didn’t even finish the P-J. Everyone was exhausted and left by 12:45. Only reason I was up past 3 am was because I was online. Feeling a little better, but my lungs are still full of crud. No problem breathing, though. It’s just that the sound of my lungs annoys me--it even worked its way into a dream. Still can’t cough up much of what’s rattling around. Am on an antibiotic and Medrol, plus bronchodilator and Mucinex, so I guess I just need to be a "patient patient.” Son didn’t get home from his comedy collective gig till past dawn, so he’s still sleeping it off. Today makes four years smoke-free for him. I am so proud!

Wren - I think you have See's Candy in WA? Unfortunately they have a WONDERFUL thing called Victoria Toffee that sounds something like the Victoria Brittle you've described. Yummy. I buy some once a year only. At the same time I buy their Peanut Brittle.

Wren that brittle sounds delicious! Any chance of getting the recipe and sharing?

I took a good look on the mirror this morning and it's quite obvious to my eyes that I have over indulged this holiday season. .....ugh!!!! Sigh......guess I'll be back on the good food diet rather than the scrumptious food diet come Monday.

    Love n hugs all! Chrissy

Oh you bad people, recommending See's! Yes, I know right where a store is. Chrissy, I don't know the man well enough to ask for the recipe. He was describing making it and it sounded like any brittle recipe, plus added almonds (lots) and the chocolate is added as it cools but can still be stirred in. He also used awesome chocolate. And I think he melted the chocolate first. The chocolate was an added note, not the main taste.

I'll see everyone on the good food diet too. Why did I not cancel my PCP appt for Mon. They will weigh me for the permanent record. Ugh!

I sent my mother a two pound box. The chocolates were hand picked by me...she will be 96 next Friday. She was complaining that she just ate too many and would get fat...I told her who cares...she said she wanted to be able to fit in her clothes..lol

Thanks Wren, I think I'll do some experimenting as it sounds just too good.

Lisa, that is so funny about your mom and the chocolates.

Heafong back to the city tonight as I have my annual mamo and bone scan tomorrow........and the round about begins for 2016.

    Take care lovelies!

    Happy New Year, everyone!

I've been busy getting the "old" house cleared out. We thought we'd have it ready by the new year. HA ha!! another thing I have to let go of. It will happen when it happens. I managed to hurt my right shoulder, I've been getting some PT and it is feeling better, but not up to 100%, but then never am I. lol

I managed to grab the hot handle of a skillet that I had put into the oven with my chicken and brussel sprouts tonight. ouch!! I am such a space shot! Got a nice blister on my thumb.

Chrissy, how did your scans turn out?

Love the pics, Lisa. Still having trouble with your arm?

I have my 6 month check up pelvic ultrasound this Tuesday. And I have been to my new PCP. He is on the mainland, but I think I like him. He has some good ideas about changing some of my meds. I'll go in for a physical in Feb and we'll take it from there.

My DD made some really good peppermint bark for Christmas. Speaking of candy and bad diet choices.

Hang in there Lisa, the relief you will feel will be awesome!

I am amazed that we are already half way through January! Have I been so busy that time has just flown? Well, maybe but I can honestly say, that time can slow down any time now as this is getting ridiculous!!

Not sure what is going on with the weather pattern but yesterday it was just over 100 degreed and today it is mid seventies!! No wonder there are so many people suffering summer colds! Thank goodness I'm not one of them but yesterday I was sitting in airconditioning wearing the least amount possible and today I'm wearing jeans and a light sweater and feeling chilly.......just weird!

    Take it easy all!

    Love n hugs. Chrissy

Chrissy, do people in Australia blame el nino for your weather craziness?

Yes they do Lisa. .......apparently it has a world effect.

Lisa, Best wishes for a speedy recovery from your surgery. I'm sure getting the screw off nerves will feel a whole lot better. Will they have to operate again?

They keep talking about El Nino here, but so far we've had our normal winter.....rain.....rain.....rain.

    karen1956 Member Posts: 4,627

Socal....wishing you an easy recovery with the surgery.

Chrissy....strange weather...Denver has been know to drop 20, 30 or more degrees in a day.....

Lisa, hope the screw removal goes smoothly. Is the bone healed enough so no other screws or reinforcement is needed?

Chrissy, weather is so crazy everywhere lately! We are up and down here also. But of course we are in winter. Last winter we had so much snow and this year we haven't had but dustings.

Wren, We 're getting lots of rain instead of snow. It is a raw damp cold. Does your area stay green all year or does everything die off?

I had my 6 month pelvic ultra sound yesterday. Waiting for the results. I'll see my GYN next week.

It is very dreary here. I just made plans to go out to Arizona for a week in March. I have never seen the Grand Canyon. My DD is going to go with me then go to CO to visit some friends and I will come home. I'm excited that we finally made the decision to go. I was dithering about the date. You know fitting it between the appts.

hey Karen, We crossed posts. ha ha

So you live in Denver? My DD used to live in Vail and Avon. You know doing the seasonally resort shuffle. Working in the service industry and doing lots of skiing. Well actually more snow boarding. So she's been back here for 2 years so she needs some snow time.
