INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

Well, if we're talking about past pets, I have a few of those too. Rufus was a gorgeous Maine Coon, he was abandoned near my office in 1997, just weeks old, a tiny gray-brown thing. Took him home and he hid for weeks, coming out when no one was around to eat, drink, and poo. One night as I was sitting up in bed reading, and DH was sleeping on his back, Rufus crawled up on his chest and cuddled. This happened nightly, and eventually he discovered I was the one with pillows. So from then on I was his last stop at night. He grew into a magnificent beast, friendly, loving, a great mouser, and Rose's first friend. He died suddenly at age 12, probably of a seizure. He had been the picture of health.
Then there was Ace. He was the first-born (thus Ace) of our poodle Kris, who was pure white, and Coco, a stray who showed up one night and stayed. She was actually cocoa colored. Ace was pale apricot and my baby. I brought him into the world in the middle of the night, and though Coco left us a few months later - we had Kris and two other dogs, and she wanted to be an only dog, so she went to a family with a little girl and no other dogs. Kris lived to be 17, and after he was gone, Ace also lived to almost 17. He was 16 in the picture below.
I don't have digital pics of the other dogs.

Mags, Rufus is regal. All you're babies are so special. They are so much a part of us. Sorry that I've fallen behind on my project. So seriously into not. Hmmmmm so seriously into not. Yes, seriously into not. I do as the moment strikes and if it doesn't strike I do ...not.

Sassy, don't worry about the not. Been in a major flare of some sort and it's all I can do to drag myself out of bed and sit in a chair. Everything's on hold in my life. Sleeping 10-12 hours at a stretch.

Sas, thanks for the update on 2nd. We were going to do lunch, but she had so much going on so we postponed for now.
MammaRay you asked where I was in SoCal. I am between San Diego and Los Angeles, near Temecula. Are you familiar with this area?
Loveroflife, great name by the way...Annie Mae got cancer and had 3/4 of her pancreas removed. This resulted in her developing diabetes. And the diabetes caused blindness. The eyes were removed at the same time due to extreme pain and pressure. She has adjusted very well, and is very spoiled. There is a Facebook page called blind dogs which I am a member of. It is so amazing to see how these blind dogs get around. They are way more resilient then people.
Hope everyone is doing well. Just finished watching an old Bruce Wilis movie, The Sixth Sense. Hopefully I willnot have nightmares tonight

Hugs to all.

I just love all of our pets! "the KING" reigns.... Hah! We used to call our Lacee.... "Princess Lacee"..... because she was.
Sass, great information for JWOW.... but everything else you said, as "seriously into not" ..... I will just act like I know exactly what you mean, but I don't. Seriously.

I'll find a picture of our first dog Chevy.... laying with our first Grand-son Brandon right after he was born... He loved that baby! Guarding him like he was his own Puppy.....

Sas. - big hugs. Thanks for the update on 2nd the other day. She as become s great friend of mine. She is truly an awesome person. I certainly miss her here. Hope she is reading occasionally and know she is missed.
Smarty. - I agree. You look way too young to be great g'ma. Looking great !
Mags. - love your past pets stories. They lived a long life. I hear ya about sleeping all the time and dragging out of bed. Wish I could get some energy. Just a shower for makeup wears me out and I need a nap. Ugh. Sick of sleeping. I wanna LIVE !!!! Always love hearing about yall's wonderful adventures.
Holeinone. - checking on you. Funeral over for your bff? Things slowing down where you can just grieve ? Hugs
I am feeling a lil better today. Dang counts so low supposed to stay away from people boo. Seems everyone has cough and fever. Staying inside.

Ds2. He is 10. He has this smile on all the time.
Ds1. He is 13. Almost never smiles. Partly just the age and puberty partly worried about me all the time.

Patti, Great photos. I would definitely hang on to that lot. We had a dog with BC also. I think it must be pretty common.

Patty, what a good looking family, and cute pups! It must be a bummer to be feeling better, but not able to go anywhere because your counts are low.
Mags, Rufus was gorgeous, with that sort of lion's mane ruff around him.
FF, King Arthur must be the same cat in you avatar. Is he as tiny as he looks in the picture? Sometimes it's hard to tell from photos.

So funny Mags about the names. I have friends who have had Ace, Deuce and now Trey and another with Trey that I forget but not "cards" related. Rufus was beautiful.
I had one cat for a while adopted from my mom's cabin. He was 3 pawed "Hop A Long". She figured he chewed his way out of a trap. Eventually he went to live with her groomer. He was so lonely, started peeing on things to let us know. Backed up to basket of clothes and let loose in front of DH one night. I was working 9p-7a and slept most of the day. First nursing job. Vet checked and nothing wrong. I understand he did fine at the groomers. Second cat I had was an Abyssinian "Tessie". Loved me but not a snuggler. Loved DD more. She lived to be 9, died suddenly of some kind of paralysis, maybe tumor related. Last cat. Early in marriage had a wire haired terrier "Boris" - DH wanted a manly name. When we moved from Garland to Ft Worth had to rent a house and could not keep him. Breeder took him back - he might have gone on to show him. Nice dog but we did not have the time to train him. 2nd dog was Scarlett - chow mix from humane society. Nasty tempered. Lived to be 13 and died of a stroke. 3rd dog currently "Terra" rat terrier 9 years old. Probably the last terrier I'll have - bad skin problems. Don't laugh but bathing her with T-Gel shampoo to kill yeast. Might be working some. I hoped by getting a not purebred dog I'd have less problems. Scarlett had fine healthy but would have bitten your hand with little provocation. This one is a love. The breeder had even brought in an outside male to expand the genetics but it didn't help with mine. BUT then I knew terriers were prone to skin problems. Geesh I can't seem to find a smaller dog that doesn't have something wrong. Terra went to obedience class which most dropped out of so we got basically 1:1 lessons. She is very obedient, stay/sit/gentle when she gets treats. A great dog except for her allergies/yeast problem.
Jazzy - we had a kestrel for a few years out here. Not seen them recently. Have a yardfull of cardinals and doves. Need to get DH to put out more birdfood. We got your storm but no snow here. Looks ugly out and 39 degrees.
Yes Smaarty that is a picture for keeps. Hope Evie gets to come home today.
I understand Sassy's not. Not gonna happen, not today. Right Sassy? I ran around trying to find another pair of pants (other than black) to wear to church tomorrow. I found one, just have to set a button over. One of those double button waistbands but I don't tuck anything in so it won't matter if the waistband is a little funky. Went shopping yesterday but couldn't find any decent pants. I don't like pull-on ones for dress, they just don't fit me right. Like zip up with belt loops. Seems the current style is pull-on. One of our Macy's is closing. Thinking they might put a hotel ??? there. Shopping in Ft Worth is the pits anyway. Oil/gas incomes are down. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. I need to go the other shopping center but further away. Looked and I don't have an in town appt. until the end of Feb. Or I need to go near DD again. She has much better shopping. AND if I could just loose 10-15# it would help. (Dream On)
OO DH passed by so I got my images on - at least some of them.
Our skinny Christmas tree
Scarlett the chow mix. Sometime probably before 2003.
Terra the rat terrier in her better days. Posting before I mess something up

Patty - you have nice looking sons. I know you're so proud of them. I'll just kidnap that littlest dog. Hope you are feeling better.
Spookie - Y'all expecting bad weather? I see storm chasers out in your area.
Midnight - When do you get some test result answers or maybe I already missed your next step?

Hi ladies- been working on putting away the Xmas stuff. Not that much really, but always a reorganization effort to consolidate in the garage. Made some good progress. Will shift gears in a bit to run errands and hit the gym. My body really needs the hot tub at the gym.
Luv- kind of cold and raw her today but snow has come and gone. My little mourning doves were lined up and huddled along the wall awhile ago.
Patty- your boys are so cute!
Hol- thinking of you with the services for your friend. My BFF lives in another state and cannot imagine life without her. I know your heart is broken. Thinking of you today. Finding a good friend that sticks with us is a huge gift and as equally a big loss. Hugs sister.

luvmygoats - aww I could just kiss Scarlett's long nose. So cute my dad used to have a goat that followed him everywhere outside. He would get up and set on the porch swing with my dad. Too funny. Gotta go look for this pic.

Hi my sweet friends! Hope today is going well for everyone! Keep all the pics coming. There are some very handsome kids/grandkids, adorable pets, and sweet babies here!
Well, my Dr called yesterday and looks like they found 2 more suspicious nodes on the ultrasound.Surgery next week to remove them and biopsy. (big sigh) ...feeling a bit down tonight. 2 years ago today I got that awful phone call telling me I had breast cancer. One battle over and another one possibly begins. I know I need to relax and just wait to see what is going on, but still can't help feeling down. I have a very low pain tolerance and the thought of surgery makes me cringe. sniff, sniff
Hugs to all you beautiful ladies! xo

Deb- sorry the news is not positive so far. You are more than entitled to feel down. I wish we could help more. Will be in your pocket during surgery. What day is your procedure?
