Chemo itself went pretty easy yesterday, but the place was a madhouse when I got there, every infusion chair full and the lobby packed. They were an hour late by the time they got my labs done, which they didn't even need to do because I'd just had them. Then I ad to sit and wit another hour for a chair. Just seemed like everyone has cancer. The halaven infusion is only five minutes, but with the steroid/nausea bag and flushes it was close to an hour overall. So far the only se I'm having is from the steroid which always messes with my bladder nerves - I have no urge to go, sometime in the night I wet the bed and never knew it until I got up this morning and my undies were wet in spite of the pad I wore. So until it wears off I have to make sure I empty my bladder regularly.

Someone suggested coconut water for hydration so my cousin got me some, now I need a suggestion on how to make it palatable. It makes me gag for some reason.

While we were there yesterday a volunteer brought a service dog around, the cutest little Maltese. My cousin was a bit startled when she ended up on her lap.

No, not yet, WildT. Today is the worst. Did the saline nasal rinse this morning and that took some pressure off my sinus. Will do the saline again in the shower shortly and may need to take NyQuil before bed. I don't like how NyQuil makes me feel. Always feel like I am in a different realm of time. DH ,on the other hand, loves it. He will take it if his "back is aching" or after a few sneezes. He refers to all colds as the flu. He is a baby I tell you. I am trying not to give whatever I have to him. He is the biggest baby. This describes him perfectly:

    image

How about you? Tough that you are by yourself. Hope you are feeling better. The world does not slow down when we are sick. I manage to clean the bathrooms today and did laundry. Now I am bushed! Snow so beautiful, but there is no way I will survive living in areas that snow.

Susan, hope you are able to sleep better tonight. I think I found a restaurant for us. It is called Fourth and Sea Fish and Chips. Need to call them to make sure they don't use peanut oil. Are you going straight to Eureka after lunch. It's a good 5 hrs drive. How old is your uncle? Can't wait to see you all, especially baby Elena.

JunieB, thank you for reminding me about the Honest Kitchen dehydrated dog food. Will order some to alternate with Mitzy's current food. So far less scratching and licking. I still need to get the lavender and chamomile oil Susan suggested for skin. So far no new rash either. It has only been one week on the new food though . I am hoping this will work for her. It has been a year since we are trying to figure out what's wrong with her. She is high maintenance for sure, but the love she has for us is worth it.

Ms. S, have you visited the beach yet? They have pretty beaches there. We were in Gold Coast in '99. Wish we had more time to explore Sydney. I had to scroll back a few times to look at the pics of Evie, Elena, Kirbie, and of course the cookies too Winking

Jazzy, do you get snow where you are? It has been cold here too. We had turn on the heater a few days ago. It went down to the 30's at night, but I am glad we don't have very many nights that cold.

Sensi, are you alive? You must be exhausted.

Patty, when do you collect an Out of Jail pass? You should try Ativan as Shep suggested. You will be "happy". Start low since you are on opioid. Fentanyl patches ,as Rose suggested, is good since you don't have to worry about keeping the oral pain meds down. You only have to worry about breakthrough pain.

JeanQ, wonderful that the burning pain has gone down. Glad you didn't have to take Neurontin. Yes the hike was good therapy. Quite a few people in their 60's and 70's in the group. I had to control my huffing and puffing around them. Those are some healthy people. I am new to the group. You should join us. When are you due back to work?

ShepK, hope you are not in too much discomfort. I have even less people now to tease. JunieB is too serious and innocent.

Mommy, Mitzy snores really loud too in the spring. How old is Jackson now? I forgot what he looks like.

    Good morning, Miss Feline.

    Welcome back SuzieM.

    MammaR, thinking of you.

Mags, what brand coconut drink did you get? Some leave an after taste. Some taste better than other. Bummer about the bladder.

Just looked up and saw the pic. Eww!!! That's gross Mags. I will never look at pumpkin pies the same way again.

WildT - I had my right thumb injected in September, but it didn't help at all, so I have another appt. at the end of Nov. I've also had steroid injections in my elbows. OUCH! That hurt more than the thumb.

Loverly - While "The Honest Kitchen" is an excellent food, I just found another one just a bit better. It is also a dehydrated raw diet and is 100% Grain-free, NO antibiotics or Hormones, Gluten-free, with vitamins & minerals, plus enzymes & probiotics. It is called "Stella & Chewy's" You can get both at Chewy.com, and if you do auto-delivery the price is a bit lower. Delivery is free for orders over $49.00.

Sorry you're not feeling well. I hope you get better soon.

Mags - I am so glad to hear that your treatment went well, despite all the waiting. The little Maltese is cute as a button. That is what I'd like to do with my little guy Kirby, once he gets some training and is a bit older.

Waving Hi to everyone else. Goodnight & sweet dreams!

Hi ladies- can't sleep so here I am on the insomniacs thread! The snow in MN is lovely, winter is starting in some places. I think loverly asked if it snows here and yes, we get snow here in the valley sometimes, much more in the mountains. It has been pretty dry this fall, but we are expected to get some rain on Monday/snow in the mountains. We need the moisture.

Mags- I cannot drink coconut water either. Do you like Vitamin Water? I like the Vitamin Zero, fluids with a few vitamins in it and decent taste. The orange one reminds me of the Tang we used to drink as kids (without all the sugar). It is good for hydrating after work outs, wonder if would help you during chemo?

I think cancer is everywhere and when I see my MO twice a year, it is always packed there. They give me my Prolia shot in the infusion area and that is always a busy place.

Wishing you better days sister. Is your kitten giving you lots of love?

Wild, I am originally from about 150 miles north of the Twin Cities. I have family down near the Twin Cities in Western WI. Thanks for the pics of the snow back home, I miss it. The last time I saw snow back there was in May of 2013 when hubby and I went back there for a week to see my family after being diagnosed with this crap.

MammaRay - Its brave of you to do what you really feel you need to do, hoping the change of scenery is helpful. Sending hugs your way.

Sensy - The fire looks so cozy. For some odd reason on my end your fire pic is on top of your text ... how did you do that?! So not sure if you said but hoping your work week was not too tiring.

Mags - The first time I tried coconut water it was terrible too! Tip I learned, take VitaCoco and put it in freezer in original container. Freeze until just slushy, I set a timer and check it every hour or so. If you overfreeze it thats ok, just take it out and set on the counter and let thaw till slushy. It is a sweet slusshhy treat seriously. It tastes completely different if not chilled and the different brands taste different.

Loverly - how are you today? I hope better. Your poor husband, he has something different from you obviously Loopy the clinical name I believe is MAN FLU and the symptoms are very hard for his gender! When and where does the hiking group meet, I'd give it a try as long as the 70 year olds dont tease me. Have finally been on the treadmill but not back to exercise class yet.

Tried on a bra today and thought oh this is great, stuck in my foobs. A few minutes later off it went, those nerves didnt like it. Back to the comfort of the cami for now. Raining here, finally. Hoping for a restful weekends for all.

    It is sprinkling here too.

Sensi, did you fall asleep taking notes. Hah!

JeanQ, I can't wear a " regular" bra any more. (Queenie, behave yourself) I can only wear sport bra. It will take a few months for that tingling feelings to go down. I still have a bit of it with the sport bra, but worse with the regular one ( stop laughing at me Queenie). MAN FLU....haha!

Our next hike is in January possibly in the Bay Area. I think they only hike the Sierra in the Summer.

MammaRay, hope you find the peace you are looking for.

I would love to see more pics of snow from where you are, WildT. We don't get snow here where we live.

Jazzy, we get snow in the mountains here in California also. We have to drive about an hour and a half to see the snow.

JunieB, I often order Mitzy's food from Chewy. Great company! Thanks. Will look into it. Did some research and saw that there are allergies tests for dogs. Not cheap, but may consider it to take the guess work out. I am cautiously optimistic about this new food I am giving her. The scratching is less and no new rash so far. No waxy buildup in her ears. This is the third limited ingredients trial. Hopefully, her shedding will go down also. Still vacuuming daily.

lover, my uncle is 82, going on 50. The man is timeless . He is amazing.

Mags, lots of people in waiting room....another way to look at it...they are keeping us alive longer, so they are jammed up. Always an upside :) my place is crazy busy too.

    Mamma ray,, hugs

Hi everyone else. Tired today. Gonna nap:)

Loverly: OK, fine, partypooper. I'll try to quit snicker----nah, not working (heeheehesnertsnorthee hee) Don't worry, I figured what you meant about "regular bras"; I never thought I'd be happy to put on my own regulars after all the SEs settled down. I mean, we're talking serious granny bras.

Lover-Ha, no didn't fall asleep.  My roommate came home and we started talking, then I got distracted and I forgot what I was doing (darn chemo brain).  Sorry I missed the hike. Great pics.  How's your cold?

Shep-thank you for the update on Sas.  Hope you are doing well

JunieB-Did you decide to go for the name Kirby?  My first 4 days back to work went well.  Was great to see my residents and their family members again.  We had our annual Thanksgiving dinner for the residents and their families.  Close to 150 people or so I think.  I went back into work to help serve dinner.  It feels good to be productive again, still working on sleep.

Smaarty-Chance seems to be coping, though he still thinks he's going somewhere when I leave at 5.  Try and get him to the dog park after I get home from work.  My roommate (renter) wants to get a dog, and I've given the ok as long as they get along with Chance.  So he might have a friend soon.  Love the pic of Evie.

Susan- Elena is a doll.  Wish I could join you ladies for lunch in December.

    Patty-waving hi back

Mags-sorry you had a long wait for chemo.

MammaRay-sending good thoughts your way.  Its good to unload.  We are here for you.

Wild-I put the cursor at the bottom of pic and start typing ;)

Waving hi to everyone else. Almost time for bed. 5am will be here soon.

Loverly, I hope you are feeling better. Cleaning and laundry will wait...rest! Men, in general, can be so dramatic when ill. Temps of 30's at night IS cold, but that was our high yesterday! And then there's the below zero temps throughout our winters..now that's cold! I took advantage of the cold day and defrosted my deep freezer. I put all my food in coolers outside in the meantime. You can tease me...I can take it!

Mags, I'd like to add to the hydration input and mention children's Pedialite. (I buy generic) I wish I would have thought about it for myself when I was going through chemo. I prefer it to gatoraide or vitamin water.

Junie, Bummer your Sept injection didn't help and you are going for another one.

Jazzy, I hope you got some sleep last night.

Feline, How cold are your winters?

Mommy, Sorry about hubby transforming to FF. You get plenty of snow in CT, don't you? I've never been NE.

JeanQ, Did you see sensi's note to me (intended for you), about how to get text at bottom of picture? I can't remember when you had BMX, but I know I had to wait at least 8 weeks after, per Dr, before wearing prosthesis.

Patty, are you still in the hospital?

    Shep, how you doing?

MammaRay, I'm glad you are taking this time for yourself to breath. Ever since I was diagnosed I have dreamed of running away somewhere by myself for a while...just to think and catch my breath. One day. I'm not saying that's what you are doing, but it's good to recognize what you need, and like Jean said, be brave enough to follow through. It's terrible to not feel like yourself. I do know what you mean by that. I'm with Jazzy, it made me sad, but at the same time want you to be comfortable sharing. We can empathize, and support you like others in your life may not be able to do. Let us be your sounding board and your group hug.

My hope is that I don't hurt anyone's feelings, or make anyone sad, by talking about minor or everyday stuff. I know that my aches or life concerns are nothing compared to those who are currently in treatment and/or have mets. My heart is with those who are struggling today.

Plenty of time for more snow pictures. Lots of winter yet to come!

I have my kids for Thanksgiving this year, so I decided to host. There will be 6 coming over, so with my kids and me, that's a good number. I did the last of my grocery shopping this morning, now I suppose I should get to picking up, laundry, dishes. Maybe a nap first, though.

Depends on the winter. Last year we hardly got anything. In previous winters we had so much snow that we were running out of places to put it.

Couldn't sleep again last night. RATS!!

My DD is down from college and we are going to see "The Barber of Seville" at the San Jose Opera for her birthday today. It's a matinee, but I'll probably doze off during the performance. Can't drink caffeinated coffee cuz it makes my heart race, so I'm drinking some Chai tea and hopefully that will work.

No time for a nap. At least I didn't doze off during the pastor's sermon this am, so maybe I'll be ok.

Patty - FF is Fart Face ! I have a FFH...Fart Face Husband. He's really a FFFH .....I'm a lady so you'll have to use your imagination for what that extra F stands for ;)

WildT - Well put......I also feel bad about kveching about the day to day chit. However, I do not mind "listening" to whatever is going on with y'all. We are all here to lift each other up. If I can do something to help "prop" one of our sisters back up, it helps me feel a bit more up too :)

It is currently a freezing 57 degrees here. Ick. The temp will drop to 33 tonight! Wicked super ick! Getting ready to accompany FFFH to go out in search of old fashioned bulb lights (not LED) to string on the citrus tree and palms. Every year FFF throws the lights out when spring arrives. And every year there is a last minute scramble to rush out to buy new ones. He is such a @*%$##. (Forgive me for cursing on the Lord's Day)

    Love and hugs to all!

Lita - Wishing you wakefulness for DD's birthday outing. I fell asleep during Les Miserables, Little Bear Live, and a comedy show! Thank Dog the comedian didn't notice - it was a big show but we were close to front! Those dark theaters are easy to nod off in if the entertainment isn't good :)

The Barber of Seville ......makes me think of The Little Rascals' Alfalfa....Hope the signing at your show is better!

  • jazzygirl

Wildtulip- talking about mundane stuff is a good thing. We all have so much to deal with every day that simple things can be a great joy. For example, I got a new bed delivered today! Been needing a new mattress set this year with a pesky spring that started sticking out the side a good 8 months ago and signalling me that I needed a new bed. So during the Veterans Day Sales, my bedding place had my fav mattress on sale and off I went. Scheduled to have it come today. Can't wait for good sleep.

And about self care, I think we all need to do things to take care of ourselves and without judgement by others. Especially during this time of the year. Holidays are not always easy for folks, especially people recently diagnosed, going through treatment or coming through the other side. And those living with advanced stage too. Or those missing family that are gone. There is an expectation everyone will be happy and spending time with family. Lord knows many just go underground to not have to deal with the questions around this stuff.

We deserve to take care of ourselves!
