INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

Told my hubby about Mags and what the doctor said and he was floored. He can't believe that a doctor would have the temerity to say that to someone or even try to give her meds to deal with the problem.
Maybe we need to get a voodoo doll and stick multiple pins in it to show how outraged we are at this situation! And if we can’t get a voodoo doll, here is a better option:

Love what Wren said.

I just got home from my appt. with my MO. Yay!!!!! My PET scan is clear!!!! Only my T11 vertebrae is active. So tomorrow morning I will call the neurosurgeon to schedule an appt. to discuss the surgery he has proposed and the blood clots in my lower left leg. My MO said that she has had patients that have had the same type of surgery I am looking at and they did well. Since the neuro is usually booked out about 3 weeks and I will have to stop the Ibrance for 3 weeks prior to surgery, the soonest I could expect to have surgery would be 6-7 weeks from now, but that is if he doesn't have plans for vacation in August like a lot of docs tend to do.
This whole surgery thing scares me though. It will be a very big one and require a lot of time to recuperate.
Now to get my Kirbster home. A lady I am acquainted with has offered to take me to go get him on Saturday morning, so 2 more days without my little fur-butt. His trainer texted to let me know he is having a blast though. He doesn't get to have the Zoomies when he is with me.

Junie you have MADE my day!! So happy to read this...and I bet the Kirbster will be just as happy to get back home to momma! Big hugs to you darlin...such good news!!!

Hi friends- not here too often these days but saw someone post on the prayer thread that Mags is transitioning in to Hospice. Just wanted to come here and check in and also let you know.
Peace & love to everyone here

Yay! I am also delighted to hear the good news. When did you change your avatar? Love it!!
Queenie, ankle monitor bracelet? Hmmm
Mommy, I would hate to make you mad. Hehe!
Egads, I have no problems with resisting junk food (most of the times) I did have a seared ahi salad when I was in the wine countries several weeks ago. Was so proud of myself. Felt good afterwards. Even remember to take a photo to show you.
And then I slipped on my last trip to the coast. Had to try the famous crab sandwich at Nicks restaurant in Pacifica. I should have tossed the bread, but then realized there are so many hungry people in the world..... so I ate the whole darn thing. My redemption that day? (If there is such a thing) I walked seven miles.
Guilty pleasure.

Thank you all for your concern and kindness!
Helloooo! Jazzy Girl. Very long time since you've visited our group. I hope you are doing well!
Loverly - Your lunches look Delish! 7 miles, Yikes! How'd your feet feel after walking that far?

Loveroflife - thanks for posting the pic...that salad looks SO good,.. thanks for taking and posting...7 mile walk.....you killed the sandwich carbs for sure! Great, it’s 8 am and now I’m craving ahi and a side of crab lol! ))

Lover: now you've made me hungry. How was the crab in the sandwich?
And yes, the nurse was teasing about the ankle monitor...

Queenie, it was good, but not good enough to cost $25 dollars. Yes, I am cheap. It would be perfect if they sprinkle a little Cajun spices or cayenne pepper. I like my food with a kick.
Egads and Junie, 7 miles is only approximately a quarter of a marathon. And I was walking not runn....
I did a six mile hike (total) the next day along the coast and in the evening climbed up the cliff (second photo). It was exhilarating. And Junie....my legs were sore the following day. A good soreness kind.
Climbing up was not as challenging as coming down. Heart was pounding for sure.
View from the top. Wish I had a better camera.

And then I flunked Paleo that day by having a hot bowl of Pho afterwards.
Egads, there were slices of meat and beef tendon underneath the noodles. Really.

Mmmm, pho. Finally had that at a little hole-in-the-wall place in Chicago.

Hello, everyone,
Went to see Mags today and took lunch. I should have taken a picture of the food at least since we didn’t take one of us. The cupcakes from GiGi’s cupcakes were divine.
We had a marvelous visit while her sweet cousin ran some errands. She may be on Hospice, but there is a lot of life in our Mags. Her new house is beautiful. She was comfortable and we really enjoyed our afternoon.
Wish you all could have been there with us.

BeatMom - So glad to hear you're close to Mags to be able to visit her. I bet she enjoyed the company & cupcakes. I wish more of us could be closer to each other to help lift each other up in person more often.
Well, ever since I spoke with the neurosurgeon here I have been really concerned about his telling me that he has not done many of the procedures he's proposed for my T11 tumor, but I was stumped as to what else to do. So, last Sunday my sister sent me a text with the link for US News' yearly report on the top hospitals in the country for Neurosurgery, and Mayo Clinic in Rodchester, MN is the #1 in this specialty. So I called them on Tuesday and they called me back today. I now have an appt. with their Neurosurgery Dept. on August 14th. My head is spinning with all the details I need to take care of before then. I called the ACS today for assistance with lodging, I submitted an application with Angel Flight for transportation, but they called to say they couldn't help because the Mayo Clinic is outside of the 13 western states they serve. They are emailing me the contact info for an organization that books flights on corporate jets specifically for BC patients, so I will check with them tomorrow.
Once my lodging & flight are taken care of I need to seek assistance with finances for meals & incidentals for my trip, as these are the only things I (a patient) would be responsible for unless the ACS is unable to find a hotel willing to donate a room for free, then I'd have to pay a reduced rate for the hotel room. Whew! There is so much to weed through, but I am so thankful there are options for us.
Catch you all later!

Junie, Good idea to go to the best. I wouldn't want anyone operating on my spine who hadn't done it 100's of times.
Beatmon, I'm so happy you and Mags are close enough to meet. I was in your town briefly for my 60th high school reunion. They said it will be the last, but who knows?

Wren - The article on Mayo Clinic said that they do approx. 400 spinal tumor surgeries per year on adults & children (if I read it correctly). I'd say they have a wee bit of experience!
Oh! Loverly - I forgot to say, that bowl of Pho looks really good! Yum!

I spoke to Angel Flight yesterday and it turns out that they do not fly to Minnesota. They only serve the 13 most western states. I did speak with Corporate Angel Network (CAN) and they are checking to see if there are any corporate donors who will be flying when I need to go. This group flies cancer patients to medical facilities all over. They will let me know by Aug. 10th. Then there is Medical Angels, an organization that provides tickets on commercial flights for out of state medical treatment or service dog training outside of a person's home state. The application process is quite involved. One must get a letter of clearance from their local doctor, submit a tax return and a bunch of other steps. It appears I'll be quite busy in the near future applying & researching. Again, I am very thankful that these options are available.
I am sharing all of this info in case anyone reading might be interested in seeking treatment for themselves at a facility they might not have thought would be possible otherwise.
