Morning Aly!  WHAT are you doing up?  This is my usual time, and I'm usually alone here....

Hey, I noticed your "If you are sent down a stony path God will give you strong shoes."

Is THAT one for ME?  I mean walking in my Crocs, down the alley, and twisting my ankle on a rock?   Who knew?

I'm still wearing those shoes...  I mean, it's highly possible for people to trip over ANYthing, or twist their ankle, for no justifiable REASON!   I went for my DEXA scan yesterday, and that was the easiest test I have EVER had!  You just lay there....  joking and laughing with the gal, and talking about us being neighbors when we were younger

We first went  about 10 or 20 miles (it seemed like) down to the coffee-shop, up hills, and down stairs, and I thought I would fall over (again) with an Asthma attack!

We went out of the building the BACK way, down to the Hospital part, before my appointment, because AS usual we were an hour early.  But it really was a fun day....  I should know soon if my bones are in glorious shape, or are on the down-side of  thinness.... Ha!

I don't care....  I'll just drink more milk... or chocolate cokes.

Chevy you are simply going to hate me for this.  I remembered from some reports along time ago regarding Bone Mineral Density and sodas. Took another look. Most articles are about infants/children/adolescents. BUT there was a study done using the Farmingham groups. Cola didn't do well. Oh so sorry, but better to know than not know.

To Everyone who has foobs. The swimming is just making the girls so perky. It's like I have a Wonder Bra on. I noticed it last summer when I was swimming, but then had to quit b/c of the dog falls. Now it's happening again. Sure wish I knew this years ago.

  • Thinking of all of you, just been really busy. Hopefully, will get a chance to catch up later.

Aly, so sorry this all is happening now. Praying for you and your friend's family. How awful.

Hi Maddy, I think lots of people are taking a break, at least from here. It's good to take a break once and awhile. Get rejuiced.

Plus, I should have said something before regarding loosing Bluebird. We are devastated by her loss. A loss from any cause, can cause us to distance ourselves from the source of pain related to a loss. Being here where she was such a source of beauty has been painful. It is expected that we would move from here b/c we are reminded acutely of her loss. We are still healing. Bless Bluebird.

Golf Girl. Thinking about what I said about pain and swelling. Hope that made sense. I'm not really cruel by wishing someone has pain. Getting folks to elevate can be a problem. As I said, once they find out that something as simple and as controllable as elevation reduces pain, I seldom ever had to remind them again.

There is another pain that I have always found quite useful. Thumping pain in an extremity. It also indicates internal swelling/pressure either created by tissue compression or from an external source.. The way to manage it is raise the extremity until the thumping stops. Then lower it till the thumping starts. Then raise the extremity till the point right above where the thumping stops. That's the perfect level. Conversely, if the thumping never stopped I'd go looking for another cause. Usually it would be a cast that was too tight and needed splitting or a dressing (post-op applied in surgery) that was too tight. It also was a good symptom in the evaluation of compartment syndrome. Not sure you would ever find this description anywhere. I made it up from years of working with patients. Don't remember when I first identified what I just described, but it always worked. :)

Orlando Daughter sent me this in an email............

    How
much do we notice as we
    go through a day?????

    Lisa
    Beamer on Good Morning America
    - If you remember,
she's the wife of Todd Beamer who said 'Let's Roll!' and helped take down the
    plane over
Pennsylvania that was heading for Washington, DC
    back on 9/11.

    She
said it's the little things that
she misses most about Todd, such as hearing the garage door
open as he came Home, and her children running
    to meet him.

    Lisa
    recalled this story:
"I had a very special  teacher
in high school many years ago whose husband died suddenly
of a heart attack. About a week after his death, she
shared some of her insight with a classroom of
students. As the late afternoon sunlight came streaming
    in through
the classroom windows and the class was nearly
    over, she moved a few
    things aside
on the edge of her desk and sat down there.

    With
a gentle look of reflection on her face, she
paused and said, 'Class is over, I would like
to share with all of you, a thought that is unrelated to
class, but which I feel is very important.  Each
    of us is put
here on earth to learn, share, love, appreciate and
    give of ourselves.

None of us knows when this fantastic
experience will end. It can be taken away at
any moment. Perhaps this is Nature's wayof
telling us that we must make the most out
    of every single day.Her
eyes, beginning to water, she went
    on, 'So I would likeyou
all to make me a promise. From
now on, on your way to
school, or on your way home, find something beautiful to
    notice.

It doesn't have to be something you
see, it could be a scent, perhaps of freshly baked
bread wafting out of someone's house, or it could
    be the sound of the
    breeze slightly rustling the leaves
in the trees, or the way the morning light catches
    one autumn leaf as
it falls gently to the ground. Please
    look for these
things, and cherish them. For, although
    it maysound
trite to some, these things are the
"stuff" of life. The little things we are put here on
earth to enjoy. The things we often take for granted.

    The
    class was completely quiet. We
all picked up our books and filed out of the room
silently. That afternoon, I noticed more things on my way home from
    school than I
    had that whole semester.Every
once in a while, I think of that teacher and remember what an
impression she made on all of us, and I try to
appreciate all of those things that sometimes we all
overlook. Take notice of something special you
see on your lunch hour today. Go barefoot. Or walk on
    the beach at sunset.

Okay, I gotcha Sass!  Damn!  So I will cut back to a chocolate coke like every OTHER day!  DAMN!  I don't drink anymore, unless we go up to Central City.....  Maybe that would be better than the Coke!

I also know about sugar substitutes....  so I'll use sugar instead....  I'm waiting to hear that I am normally perfect again..... should be calling any minute....  WTH?  At MY age, I figure, if I just have everything in moderation, then I am okay....  I'll drink more milk.... take calcium..... and walk even MORE!

She said walking is the best exercise....  Do you guys know how old I AM?   You should be saying, "Oh well, she is older than almost anybody ON here, so we will just go along with her, and let her drink her stupid Chocolate Cokes, and  pat her on the back, and just feel sorry for her!"...... Hah!

For a number of years I read Sarah Ban Breathnach's book "Simple Abundance" every day. She was a freq. guest on Oprah in the mid 1990s. Gotten out of the habit. She has several entries addressed to the ordinary day and appreciating them. One of them about 7 women killed in a commuter jet crash. It makes me cry even now.

"Today might be tough for you. You might not want the next moment to show itself, to reveal the twists and turns of life's mystery. But at least you have it. You still have life. A choice as to how you will live this precious day.

Don't wish it away. Don't waste it. For the love of all that's holy, redeem one hour. Hold it close. Cherish it. Above all, be grateful for it. Let your thanksgiving rise above the din of disappointment -- opportunities lost, mistakes made, the clamor of all that has not yet come.

And if today is so horrendous that the gift doesn't seem worth acknowledging; it you can't find one moment to enjoy, one simple pleasure to savor, one friend to call, one person to love, one thing to share, one smile to offer; if life is so difficult you don't want to bother living it to the fullest, then don't live today for yourself.

Live it for Nancy, Cheryl, Valerie, Kathleen, Gilda, Elizabeth and Patricia."  From Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach

"Yes, we ALL have had crap going on in our lives, but see, you have to look at it like YOU are still HERE! And so are we! So go walk outdoors, and watch a sunset.... or the sunrise, like I am going to do in a minute! Just thank God that you get another day.... See? That's your "present" ! Chevyboy, 2014

Oh Chevy so right. I hated to post that thingy about Cola's, but it is better to know then not know. You are absolutely right on those fake sugar things. I think Stevia is okay. I just did a whole thing today on the Constipation thread(housekeeping thread) on Miralax. Current rave. But it's a chemical. Prunes and apricots LOL.

Because of losing a relative at a young age, the rule in my house is never to leave the house without a kiss and an I love you.

Sailing another, oh do I have to really say it, thingy. BMD studies are normed for age. If you look at the graphs you can see it in an instant. My hospital got a densomitry machine in 1996. They taught the techs how to use it by doing tests on each one. A radiology tech who I knew, was found to be osteopenic. Her risk factors were nil. I smoke, I drink, I don't eat right. I figured I better get tested. I was 46. I was osteopenic. I went on Fosamax. Six months later I was tested. I was in normal range. I thought WOW great drug. I got a copy of the graph. I was absolutely the same level. The grading scale went down. What was different was the graph. Had I not been tested the first time. My second test would have been normal. I went off Fosamax b/c I don't like drugs. I waited to see what subsequent tests showed. I didn't show a drop again until being on the AI's @ 61(pre-bc one done in 08). I could go on a Biphosphanate, but choose to try other routes. Afraid of the s.e.'s. Drugs and I don't do well. Lesson for me: All things are relative.

    LMG--------Goats Rock!

  • just passing thru, big mess in the kitchen is calling my name.

Enerva and 44444' hope you're both taking it easy, resting, not overdoing, pain free and happy with the results.

Chevy and Luv, thanks for the inspiration. Stuff, both good and bad, going on. Just realized it must be the time of year for me, dx'ed twice in September (very long Labor Day weekend two years ago waiting for results). That puts things in perspective.

  • rats, had a long post, lost it.

    Hi1, love the new avatar

Badger, thanks for the info about the bar of soap and RLS. Need to tell DH, quick and easy, nothing to lose.

Thanks for all the videos, never know what you'll find on this thread.

This week or so has had highs and lows, dose of reality and dreams realized. Didn't want to hear myself whine, just really busy which helped. In the last week, high lights include: BS really pleased with the look of the foobs, scars are healing and fading nicely, did something I haven't done in over 22 years: tried on an outfit with spaghetti straps! (Doesn't work with a uni-boob.) Dad had given me a bit of money to splurge on me, got the sundress, 3 pairs of shoes (interview shoes, wedges, little kitten heels), a cami/bra, and a winter pj top; cashier had some special coupons, all this came to $75. Never thought I'd wear something like this ever again:

    image

And for other west coasters: Vinnie and his associate Renee Maschinot, are scheduling a trip out here to SoCal in the spring. Passing the word along, they'll be sending me info and flyer soon (long story about how this came about but happened when BS and I were discussing 3D nipple tats and she knew of Vinnie and how great his work is). Anyway, they'll be passing along the info to me for her, so let me know if you're interested.

Oh, OKAY 2222222222222nd!  So now what's this with you and Vinnie?    How come everyone knows about Vinnie, but I don't!  He left me on that Pier, and was never heard from again!  I thought he Drownded!   He threw himself into the raging surf, after that "meeting" and that was all she wrote!  Or HE wrote, as in this case....  hmmmm.

So now I'll act normal....  Sass, my phone was on strike... it was not taking messages!  (The answering part was somehow "off.")

And since we are gone all the time, I haven't heard from the Doc yet....  The Tech mentioned Fosamax, but said that in "older" people...(that bitch) sometimes taking it for a long time, causes your bones to become actually weaker.

I told her I also hate to take anything....  So she said wait and see what the tests show, and to keep walking, and gardening, and eat healthy....

Been cleaning out the refrigerator!  Jars and bottles I've had for maybe 20 years (almost) are gone....  Even if they were full!   It's like that Fridge takes on a life of it's own!  Buys stuff, and it never gets used!

Has ANYbody heard from that Cammi girl?  Is she SICK or avoiding her responsibilities of making us laugh?  She must be in jail with Phyllidink or something.

    Oh Lilgoats....  I loved that!

  • Ok, ladies, just jumping in here with a couple of questions!  Hope everyone is doing ok, no wait, hope everyone is doing great!  I've tried to read and catch up, but just have no memory!

Anyway, I've been having some weird hot flashes, I say weird because I never have them unless I am "doing something"!  And by that I mean any little thing, just folding clothes will  bring on a tremendous wave that will leave me soaking!  If I load the dishwasher, same thing!  I NEVER get them just randomly, it's always when I'm doing something!  And I'm NOT on any meds right now that would cause this!  I have been thinking that maybe my thyroid is wacked out, but getting that checked around here is like pulling teeth, no one wants to listen!

Also, I've had this "rash" on my ankle, went to doctor and he said either allergic reaction or eczema and gave me a prescription!  Been using that for over a week and the spot will almost go away, but then comes back with a vengeance. Tried all the OTC meds before going to doctor, nothing is making it go completely away!  Guess my next appt will be with either a dermatologist or an allergist!

Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions!

2nd, love the top, I NEVER wear spaghetti straps, they refuse to stay on my shoulders!  LOL  Plus my figure right now would never allow it!

Sas, I've been reading the info that you posted about the thyroid stuff, I really think most of my problems are related to this!  Just don't know how to find the right doctor!!  I've even been reading on that website and the closest doctor to me is over 4 hours away!  Sad  May end up making the trip if I don't get some relief soon!

Not sure why, but my back is somewhat better, still have my days, but it seems to be calming down.  I've started walking and somedays I do just fine, but other days, the pain is so bad I can barely make it out of the drive way!  Just don't understand, but going to keep on keeping on and see if things improve!

Enerva, glad to hear things are getting better!

Chevy loved the teacher story, this is oh so true, we all need to be more aware of our "present"!!

Well, I'm supposed to be working so I better get to it!

Chevy, Cami IS avoiding her laugh responsibilities. Maybe we're not giving her enough material to work with? ..........I wasn't suggesting Fosamax or any of the biphosphanates. They worry me b/c of the severe side effects. I think they are scary drugs. I rate them right up there with AI's. Just mentioned them b/c If I didn't know how to interpret the graphs on the bone density chart, I may have continued taking them. .......What week are you coming again? Spookie and I need to tighten up the schedule.

    Jwoo hellooooooooooo

2nd Thanks for yesterday. I always love our chats :)

Enerva glad the pain is better. Glad you had a great experience with your new PS. YAY. My scars are horrid. PS blamed me b/c I smoke. My thyroid scar only 5 months old is non-existant. The BMX scars look like they were done with horse suture and they are >5 years old.

Susan Yooohooo--I'm up to 33 laps. That's equivalent to 10 lots on my street. I can even walk the next day LOL.

ALY, Blondie, Blessings, Blueberry, Smarrty, LMG's, Sailing, GG, Gumby, WAVING sorry if I forgot anyone. :)

2nd, love the top. You might like the purple top that's coming your way. Don't know if it would be the right size. Are you still job hunting? Any luck? You would of posted if you had.

Well, I'm still in a quandary of what to do! I'm going back to see the PS (2nd opinion) on the 16. She's willing to try to fix them as long as I have realistic expectations. She mentioned using smooth round implants and going smaller, I'm 550 now. Whippetmom says 600-650 and no more textured. PS says smaller because of how stretchy my skin is. The 3rd PS said gummy HP, but didn't say size. He's the only one who said anything about removing the wings on the side and nipples if I want them (I don't). Now I need to talk to him again so I can get my head straight. She can do the boobs in November, him I have to wait until January because I'd have to change insurance.  Why do these things have to be so hard to decide?? I'm only going to do this once then I'm done with the whole boob business. It's nice having them again but I'm tired of them hurting and just want to be done!

Ok, no more whining from me.  It's still going to be in the 90s here all week. Great for my swim classes! You guys take care. Glad to hear enerva and 4sew are doing good. Keep up the good work! Which means doing not much of anything!  Now is a good time to catch up on tv shows or movies.

  • Sas I think Chevy said the 24th. I looked up that area it's right on International drive. I'm hoping her DD will pick a less busy street.  I'm free any day, just might have to change pick up day for the grands.

Okay you guys..... I  am coming out there on a Wednesday, the 24th....  And leaving the next Tuesday.....  Maybe we can meet on Friday?  I kind of have to wait until I see when the boys can get off.... but I will let you know as soon as we get there, and talk to them.....  Or else Monday?

We can meet ANYwhere near where she lives.... What do you suggest?   She just lives close to Universal ......  So think of a place...

No Sass.... I know.... you and I just don't like to take anything unless we have to, that's why I mentioned walking, and I'm still waiting for the Doc to call back....to tell me how my bones are!  They KNOW we want to know, and they just take their time....!

Nettie.... I USED to have a problem with a rash on one ankle..... drove me nuts!  er.....  But I finally went to a Dermatologist and she said it was stasis-dermatitis....  I used a powder.... Domeboro..... I bought it at Walgreens, mixed a packet with a little water in a jar.... kept it in the refrigerator, and patted that mixture on my leg about 3 times a day.....

It might have helped, but DON'T scratch it....  That just makes it worse.  I think it eventually goes away, after it drives you nuts, and after it  gets tired of you fighting it. Winking

Also, are you taking Tamoxifen?  I got "warm waves" while I was on that....  I never had hot-flashes, even when/if I went through the change.  I was taking  Estrogen for so long, I probably went through the change without even knowing it.....

I just talked to my PC!  She said "Your bones are actually very good.... no Osteoporosis!"  I am sooooooo happy!  Back to my normal care-free life, with no restrictions!

Maybe no more pole-dancing, BUT the reason I broke my damn hip had nothing to do with my bones....  so HAH!  So THERE, miss primary care, who said "it shouldn't have broken  the way it did!"      Loopy ThumbsUpHappy

  • Chevy, no Tamoxifen, not yet anyway, have the meds at home, just haven't had the nerve to take the first one as the Aromasin and Femara were terrible to me!  Just don't know if I'm ready to climb another hill!!

As far as the ankle rash, I'll have to check out what you said!  And yes, it itches like crazy and I keep from scratching during the day, but find that I scratch in my sleep!

  • Chevyboy
    Chevyboy Posts: 10,258

Nettie, I just looked it up again..... Now I'm not so sure that I had stasis-dematitis like she said........ It talked about blood-pooling under the skin...., and mine was always like little blisters under the skin....  and itched like crazy.   Did you try some cortisone cream yet?

Mine was just in one area, around my ankle, lower leg....  Maybe something like Caladryl?  And maybe a Benadryl before bedtime?

We need to take more drugs..... the more the better.....  THEN drink wine with them..... and go to bed.  Call me in the morning if that doesn't help.Loopy

  • Thanks again Chevy and Luv for the uplifting posts.

Now Chevy, Vinnie Myers (the 3D nipple/tit tat expert) was back on this thread much earlier this year, maybe around March or April? Then he got busy and disappeared. Should I post a link to his work? Can relate to the fridge taking on a life of its own, don't understand how I clean it thoroughly a couple of times a year and as soon as I do, the gremlins magically make it dirty (at least not as often now that DD has moved out again). ThumbsUp on the good test results - no osteoporosis!

Enerva and 4444, hope you're both still taking it easy and not overdoing....

I should talk... was walking downstairs and as my foot was mid-air, the muscle felt it twitched and my ankle twisted before it touched the landing, did a good job twisting it. Has this ever happened to anyone? Happened to me once before but I was in the middle of the stair case, had to grasp the handrail and hurt myself in the process. This time I was almost to the landing so no upper body hurting. Please don't say it because I'm getting older and the body becomes unpredictable!

Hi Jwoo, hoping things are calming down a bit, good to see you.

Smaarty, looking forward to seeing what comes in the mail. No, nothing on the job search. Some days I can't even find something to apply to, will let you know when whatever's meant to happen, happens. I really benefitted from having the "wings" (or mudflaps as I call them) removed, eliminated a whole bunch of pain. It was like some lymph fluid was building up and with the wings gone, so went the pain (plus, it does look a whole lot better too).

Sassy, glad the swimming is helping. What were you saying a couple of days ago about redecorating a pool enclosure? Did that get finished? I love our chats too, Winking

Nettie, hot flashes, they suck! MO put me on Megace (I'm on tamoxifen) and that seemed to make them worse. Something that seems to be working: sleeping with my feet out of the blanket (it's awkward, I know). Good luck with the rash, can stress be a cause?

Cami, missing you.... Please come back and play.

Can we talk? Hearing we lost Joan Rivers too. That's very sad.

That happens Maddy, when you fall off the pole.  That's it.  Our muscles just twitch, and take on a mind of their own sometimes....

So see gals?  It's not because I am getting older or senile....  well, maybe senile..... but sometimes me and Maddy just take a spill....  We don't PLAN on it, and it doesn't mean that we are older.... just clumsy maybe....  and we have issues when things twist or trip.

So if we break something, doesn't mean we have old bones..... just that we shouldn't have BROKEN something.  I will wear a pillow on my butt next time.

Yes.... It makes me so sad about Joan Rivers.....  I just cracked up when I listened to her.... I watched her and Juliana and Kelli and George every week....  I'm just sooooo sorry.

We just never know....  I'm just glad she didn't have to suffer.... or be in a wheel-chair.... or worse....  We lost a special woman.

  • Yea Chevy! Now just watch out for rocks this winter!!!!

I know........  They just go flying around, somehow, and land under the corner of my foot!    No matter what I was wearing, I would have twisted my ankle if one of those alien rocks flew under my foot!

We just mostly walk on sidewalks now, or in the mall!   But did you see  what 22222 did?  I mean she was on plain old stairs, and got a cramp or whatever, and fell!

Our stairs are soooooo steep going upstairs, that I just get down on all 4s' and climb up that way!  Then I call a Priest when I start down!  I lean against one wall, and go down one foot at a time, while my other hand is on the opposite wall.  I guess I COULD climb down backwards....  Ha!

So what have YOU been doing Spookers?  You sure don't say much....Winking
