what a friggin day! Picked up one grand, the other was home sick. DD didn't tell me that, I'm holding up car line waiting for him. And I had him most of the weekend! 102 temp.
But wait! It gets worse!
Sick one was playing on the floor, bro walks over him, and KICKS him in the head! I went after him, managed to loos my balance, fell on top of #1. Screwed up my wrist pretty bad. On my LE arm. Had it xrayed, maybe a hairline fracture. Won't find out till tomorrow.
PCP gave me a wrap, ice bag, 2 shots in the butt. One was steroids. Just what a diabetic wants.
Wah, I want to go to bed.

Tang, My BS ordered the first one and MO ordered the 2nd. I haven't picked it out yet. You do need a place that does it all the time and knows what they're doing.
Spookie, OMD! That could be a children's book: Grannie's really really bad day. Hope nothing is broken and you won't need a cast. Bed sounds like an appropriate destination.
Sass, hope the water's fixed soon. Cold doesn't sound pleasant at all.

OK 5 pages behind again. I plead the 5th. I did go shopping on Saturday, DH's day off. How can I get that far behind that fast. I'm reading on 616.
Rosevalley - I completely agree about no dogs on your couches. I have only a 19# terrier and she has her dog bed. I will admit for a couple of years she slept on sofa covered with beach towels though crated at night/when we're away from house. I finally said enough and now she loves her beds - 2 of the same kind with replaceable innards, zip off covers. Your cabin sounds lovely. My DM used to have years ago a cabin and log home in OK - long b4 cell phones/internet. Very peaceful for visitors but tons of work to keep up for her and stepdad. Patty you crack me up - Motel 6- they'll leave the light on. But maybe a laminated set of house rules ain't a bad idee (as Granny of the Beverly Hillbillies used to say). Any chance you can get a bulkhead seat, the 1st one after the 1st class cabin. They usually have a bit more room to stretch. Just make frequent BR visits - if flight attendant questions you say you have a bladder problem. I know not the most pleasant thing to say in a crowded plane but you'll never see those people again and not so farfetched. My GM best church friend's family owned the local funeral home. Good honest business we will all need someday.
2TA - Tiny House Nation? I get FYI (surprise didn't even know it). Are they online too? I always read those Yahoo trending stories about tiny houses. Yes Patty I agree I need my stuff though lots of my stuff needs to get shoveled out. That job coach needs some lessons in grace. Sounds like someone you don't need to be telling you what you probably already know. Your life ranks right up there with A#1 stressful and you don't need her right now. Doc have any idea what changed with your mom to "wake" her up? But wow your retreat sounds like so what you needed. Do you go to any job related networking meetings?
I've only gotten one election call but that may be because we have unlisted #. We are on the do not call list also and really get very little that is not from a company we have business with in some form. Texas' only semi-contested race is governor and nothing in the county I live in. There are plenty of ads on TV though.
I think Texas lost autumn; actually think Texas only has winter and summer anyway with a little spring tornado season thrown in. Record heat over the weekend. AC on right now but expecting a "cold" front - slightly cooler from upper 80s but no rain. Our leaves have all turned yellow but mostly from drought. We are just on the edge of exceptional drought. Keep hearing colder/wetter November. Bring It ON.
Mags - sorry about the costo. I have it in the clavicle. Hoping you have found some relief.
Smaarty - love the floor. We have only a small amt of Pergo in the kitchen. Most of house is carpet. Added on den is ceramic tile in red dirt color.
Sassy - purely nosy question. DS's gf has a boxer. How much room does he/she have? I would dearly love, love a boxer but I only have a 4' chain link tiny backyard. We had a boxer growing up. Don't remember having overly large yards but did have cement block walls (El Paso/Alb.) so they were high. I showed tremendous restraint Sat. Petsmart doggy adoption had a female bull terrier. Another dog I would love to have had. DH said absol. NOT. Afraid of her background. I told him in the next year or 2 I'm getting another dog - my rat terr. is 7 going on 8 in Jan. DH thinks I want a Chihuahua - not. Too afraid I'd step on it. Neighbor has an adorable chi mix just a tad smaller than my rattie who's 17#. Lady what kind of water heater you got that parts are in MN? Even your warmish tap water on lady parts - uh no not doing. You need an old fashioned douche bag. At least you could boil up your own warm water. You got an extra enema bag somewhere?
Blessings - I'm trying to merge like crazy. Hope your are better from your Okie truck spill.
Tang - love the pics. I recognize Whataburger. My fav. Love your new kitty. Are they the ones with the short front legs? There's been a new fat cat hanging around last couple of days. Black/white with bobbed tail. Unfortunately cats don't last long, either the road gets them or the coyotes. He's prob. a pet, neighbor with the chi mix has a cat I know but don't know color. He was catching grasshoppers yest. so not sure what he's eating. Should be plenty of mice. Maybe he can catch my mole.
Footprintsangel - welcome to our crazy thread. Sorry for the insomnia.
Badger - the cobbler sounds very good. I have bags of frozen fruit I need to use up. May make that. Yummy.
I agree with the terrible movies in October. I like the stupid ones like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes or the old Dark Shadows but no slice/dice movies for me. I have TV off and internet net radio on tonight. I like Dancing with the Stars but preempted here in Dallas area for the Cowboys game so I just turned it off. I have been watching the World Series and like but don't understand hockey.
Spookie - you've had your evening. I would think bed would be inviting. Hoping no fracture. Did you know it was steroids? Hoping your DH can wait on you some. Hugs. Grannie's Really Bad Day - if only it hadn't happened to you.
Nettie - dog looks well loved, shiny. I hate it too. I'm on a corner so always suspicious of cars that stop out on the road. More than once I've gone out to investigate after they've left. I'm also on a creek that usually (not now) has some trickle of water in it. Spot for dumping stuff in. I don't see near as many dogs roaming as I did for sev. years and don't know why.
Mema4 - good to see another Texan. I'm NW of Ft. Worth.
Spank me now. Sorry for the book I've written. I just can't seem to keep up on here. Not only lots of talk but lots of members. But that is what does make life interesting. Friends.

sass, heat some water in the microwave before you head to the bathroom, pita but better than cold! You do own a microwave, right?
Here's the rugs I ordered. They'll come in while we're gone. REALLY like the modern one, probably end up with the geometric one. It look gray but it's blues.

0 -
OO I really like the top one. Since the bottom one came out gray toned. But the blues in the top one are great. Reminds me of fish. Cruise coming up soon.
Blondie - I forgot to mention you. Prayers for all you have going on. When is your trip?

LITTLEGOATS, we haven't seen you in awhile.
I'll survive the cold water. Our water never gets cold like up north. But warm is better than even slightly cold.Back in end of 2000, I sought out an energy efficient and or long lasting water heater. HAD TO DO A (friggen) search. Found a MARATHON. Tank made of same stuff as water softners tanks which had a history of greater than 30 years. This company in MN. invented a water heater out of the same stuff. They shipped it here to Florida. Had to find a company to install it. They got it wrong , then wanted to charge me for their error. The guy that corrected the error and handed me a bill at the second visit said "Well Billy Bob(joking-don't remember the name) he's the slowest guy we got" Me "Well if he's that bad why did you send him, I told you this was unusual" Him "Well we figured he might work it out". Were talking a $256.00 installation fee---For someone to come out and do something a second time-------------raised hell---they ate it.
LOL I only know the charge b/c I had to go through the house box and find the warranty. The installation bill was attached. The MARATHON tank has a life time guarantee. Regretfully , the "something " doesn't. It's an electrical component. 100$ with S&H and overnight fed-ex. New the word earlier-----oh well. Bottom line cold showers till the part comes.
Krips I always have to do a search---------------------took me 4 months to buy windows for the porch-----by the time I got done I knew more than the sellers. CRAZY. Same stuff all the time.
How's Bucky?

Smarty the blue modern one is very neat. I like it.
Spookiesmom- sounds like you had your own version of "Alexander's No good Horrid Rotten Day!" I loved that book and they just made a movie out of it. Yikes... nasty chain of events. I hope things get better for you.
Sass- funny about the warranty and BF got a chuckle over that. Hope your water heater parts come in fast!
Night everyone.

Littlegoats, Good to hear from you again.
Smarty, I really love the top one. I would decorate the whole room around it - it's that good looking.

Rosie (like that name for you), thank you for joining us in this thread and sharing with us. Pleased you are comfortable enough with us to share difficult feelings. About the compression sleeve, back early on before I knew they existed (before 2000), I would wrap a wide ace bandage snugly (not tight) around affected arm and secure with (new) pretty diaper pins (don't know if they even make those any more) since the little gripper tabs would fall off so easily. Would adjust as needed and sleep with arm elevated by pillow (and used pillow any time I was seated and could do that comfortably as necessary). Only found out years later sleeping with it on probably wasn't a good idea so check with BS. (Actually had 2 bandages, one to wear and one to wash, inexpensive enough to do that).
Tang, would send you a PM but others may benefit from this. As others have said, check to see what insurance will cover, these are medically necessary. Prosthesis forms and bras came under the category of durable medical equipment (DME), so they're handled a bit differently. Ask insurance the process. Ask how many you're entitled to and how often (for me, one form every 2 years, sometimes it was 4 bras a years, sometimes 2 depending on insurance companies). They should (hopefully) cover all or part of the expense (something's they give like an allowance so you don't always get the most expensive ones (cost cutting measure). Next, and I learned this the hard way, ask for the name of the approved provider. Here's where a little research pays off. I was originally assigned to a prosthetics company - like the people who make prosthetic body parts, so cold and impersonal. Few samples, wanted to order out of a catalog. Uh, no thanks. Spoke with my PCP (who had undergone bmx herself so she's extremely knowledgable and understanding) and asked her about prosthetics providers. Was referred to a "specialty" lingerie shop with lots of stock, sizes and colors. Worked with women and didn't feel like a piece of meat. Specialty shop gave me the correct words to go back to insurance and request the specialty shop instead (I think the key words were "third party provider"). From then on, it was snap. Also, ask if someone in the shop sews pockets in bras. Mine charged me $5 per pocket, gave hints what kind of bras worked best. If you sew or have a friend who sews, there's online instructions, some good you-tube videos. If all that doesn't work, there's a company associated with ACS with a great catalog for all things cancer, especially BC:
Someone posted a yummy looking recipe for mac & cheese. Was that you Badger? If I got it wrong, sorry. Looks like something I would like, since I'm the only one eating it (DH doesn't like), can recipe can be cut in half?
Cammi, hope you're feeling better!
Chevy, where would we be without you?
Will catch up when I can. 0 -
Thanks Wren,I'll survive,
To all on the Ebola thing, you all know I have a wide background in nursing. What I see coming out of this is many varied areas of preparedness, real infection control. Worldwide cooperation on diseases. Real action on vaccines that should have been developed before now.
I don't want anymore to die, but Ebola has awakened sleeping giants that were complacent and selfish.
The next year or so are going to be bumpy and ugly. But out of trouble better things WILL happen.

sassy, why are up at this hour? Never mind, I get it
Patty and Little Foot, awwe shucks, glad you liked the images
Tang, kitty looks so sweet! Looks like he'll love being spoiled
Local story of poor kitten:
http://abc7.com/pets/partially-paralyzed-kitten-to...
Paws, glad the little family is getting along. Great having cooler weather, huh? Heard a report we may get rain this weekend, that would be great. Will be in your pocket Thursday.
Rosie, I have funny stories about prosthesis, especially in a swim suit and a pool, let's just say they were very different weights and I was very lop-sided.
Spookie, ouch, double ouch! Hope you're feeling better.
LMG, you're right, job coach was an ass. Better without her. Have been so busy, haven't had time for job networking meetings. LOTS of time spent online thru the many searches and get lots of email searches sent to me. Spending as much time as I can looking and applying. Lots of prayer, and have come to the conclusion that it will happen on God's time, figuring I'm meant to help Dad with Mom right now otherwise it would have happened. More details about mom later, thanks for asking. Haven't checked for online videos of tiny houses, I just check out stories, pictures and floor plans. Only one election call! Wow, I get several a day.
Blessings, you live up to your name!
So sorry I forgot to ask about the truck mishap and acupuncture session. Mags, hopefully you're feeling better, sweetie!
Smaarty, pretty rugs! What will you do with all your time after house reno done?
Sorry for all I didn't call out by name.
Hugs to all who need or want them!!
My craving right now:

sorry, I know I'm tired of hearing myself about all this, for those I bore, skip this:
The roller coaster of Mom's health: somebody said my Mom was comatose, turns out not the case. With Alzheimer's, any infection in the body adversely affects cognitive abilities, she's had a UTI that I think has never been cleared. Twice now appears she's on death's door but springs back to life. I got to tell her everything I needed to "just in case". Waiting for eval to see if she can swallow (and have nasal feeding tube removed) and PT eval to hopefully regain use of her legs. Dad was there all morning, other than typical care, no evals. Suddenly this afternoon, case mgr calls to say they're moving her to the skilled nursing facility there (the receiving facility knew it would be sometime this week, not as soon as today). I was on the phone for hours trying to sort it out. Hospital was talking about inserting tummy feeding tube, I absolutely refused and then hassles began. Bottom line, not moved today. Dad is so confused and overwhelmed most of this is falling on my shoulders. Good thing though, legal document was found to finally give me some authority in this whole process, not just responsibility. Plus, mom will be moved back to the community where she and dad were living, in a skilled nursing facility. Not sure if this is permanent or if she will be able to return to assisted living. Dad wants me back out there this week but I have some plans which will keep me from going out there. Hoping this all sorts itself out and with good results.

2nd time- I feel your pain. I leave next week for Florida to visit my Mom. Last time I went I spent 10 days taking her to MRI's with and without contrast and she ended up diagnosed with dementia. There were other tests, neurology visits and even a psychiatrist. Dementia was not a surprise. My brothers have been caring for her and there has been some talk of assisted living. I need to see these places and see what she looks like. What can she do and not do etc. It will be hard. Just having a conversation with her can be hard. I think it helps my brothers and all of us if we spend time looking at options and I spend time just being with her. I am looking forward to seeing her.
I hope everything works out with your Mom. Until the UTI gets cleared I wouldn't try and assess her mentally. Does your Mom have an advanced directive? That might help you in your dealing with the hospital. It must be hard on your Dad, and you too. Best wishes.

Sass! Can't you just go to Walmart? I mean you search all over hell and
back for something, and then these "little" things come up, and sometimes maybe
the "best" turns out to be a big PITA!!!When you just have to "go" in the bathroom, why not fill a little bottle
with warm water.... from your Microwave, that you drove to Singapore to pick
out the one with high-speed, Internet with a hand that comes out and hands you
a pot holder?0 -
And another thing.... My DGS has a shower head attached to some water line
outdoors, and so beside his "pool" he can stand there, with all the privacy
bushes/walls, and take a shower! With that huge like "rain" shower head. Now the water is not cold in Florida. So ANY water from a tap is not
really "cold"... That's why all Floridians have ice-boxes...(cross that off)
Refrigerators with water.. to make ice, and have ice-cold water, that makes your
teeth shiver! You can't drink the tap water, because it is "tepid" water, which means
everyone has a direct line from the ocean... so that's what they are drinking.
Ocean water.. usually with salt. Now Sass... You would be better off sitting in a pool of your normal tepid
tap-water, with the salt, than having some fancy-dancy heat infused water
from some foreign tank from Caracas that don't work 1/2 the time! And WHAT is this DDBBFF going to do with a screw-driver? A Phillips-head!
He can't even get past your DOOR-way 1/2 the time! If the parts are coming
from the Space-Station, you are going to have to wait awhile...! Even WITH a
screw-driver.0 -
So now are we done talking about this water issue? I looked down in the basement at our hot-water tank.... from Walmart... It had a sad look on it's face. It even has a "blanket" on it... And that thing NEVER gives us any problems. I should go paint a happy face on it!
Okay..... now to scroll back....You guys when my Grandma was going through all that you are talking about, I never KNEW what would happen next... It's just that way when their health is on the wrong track. Their abilities to think normally have been taken away from them... You want to sit there and have conversations with them, just like you used to, but you can't.... it's just lost somewhere.....
I took her to the LAST appointment, to have her "assessed." And I swore I would never take her to any more damn appointments, to see how she was, because WE ALL KNEW HOW SHE WAS. They couldn't tell us anything that we didn't know.
I looked at her when they were asking her what "this" picture was of an apple.... She couldn't say... she just kind of smiled, and looked at me... A few more pictures of things, and I said, "Okay, I think we are done here.... this isn't doing any good for anybody."
She was just frustrated, and didn't know what was going on.... So I told them "We are going to go get a hamburger!" We left, and I never put her through anything like that again. She was MINE now, and I could help them help her, by not going along with all their "Let's see what's wrong with her" crap.
Every day is a new day with them and you! Just thank God that you still have them.... Work through it, and try and not cry in front of any of them.... It will break your heart, to see these changes.... But it's up to you, to not put them through needless tests, and treatments and things that won't help even a little bit. When things get really rough, the staff will KNOW what they can do to help....
Our bodies can only live for a given amount of time, and then these things just happen... You know, I am just thankful now that I could be a part of Grandma's last few weeks. She had no-one else that cared.... But I was enough.

Good morning, ladies. I read here every day but thought I'd speak to let you know I'm still here. Sorry about the difficult times some are having with their mothers. I'm am so fortunate to that my mother is in good health. We go out walking almost every day. She lives very close to me and helped a lot after my surgery.

Chevy...I agree with Teka but I do enjoy your free time LOL.

Chevy wise words! You are right but if there was something medically wrong it would be nice to intervene. Get rid of the things that are eating away at mental acuity - like UTIs and low thyroid, low B12, depression etc. Have a great day ya'll.
