RV, Probably a good thing there were lots of kids. A herd is safer than a loner. It should teach those people to pay attention when their dog barks. Especially if it's not given to barking.

Wren44- so right you are! The parents freaked when they realized there had been a cat watching these kids play. They cut down the brush past their fence line so there would be no hiding spots. You can better believe they paid attention to the dog after that. The first wild sighting of a cougar my husband and I saw was leaving my Aunts house at dusk. We saw the cat running through a field and the tail was a give away. The second cougar sighting was up here in Oregon along a river at 4:30 pm with the whole family in the van. They are gorgeous but you need to be careful. We always take our dogs with us hiking and the dogs will smell and pick up things long before we will! Extra early doggy warning system.

Chevy- congrads on the "all clear." Flip-flops...brrrr I love the cartoon of the guy shoveling and yelling to his wife... "If that's my brother from Florida I do not want to talk." What a hoot.

Rosevalley, We always took our dog (singular) with us too. She had a pack and could carry extra water, tennis shoes, and her food. We had one dog who would insist on having her pack off when we took ours off to rest. We were camping in a park in Canada where people said they had seen a bear. We let the dog sleep in the car while we slept in the tent. Once we were camped on Mt. Adams with the dog in the tent with us. In the middle of the night, she woke me up shaking with fear. We were never sure what it was, but cougar and bear were the most likely. There were cows nearby and their bells were ringing, so they saw/sensed it also. The funniest thing I've ever seen was a cow hiding behind a tree to look at us. Needless to say, it didn't hide much.

Chevy, Thumbs up for a good mammo!

  • Congrats Chevy.

    Yay Chevy

  • nyone remember my possum story? A few years ago, I went out into the yard at dusk and thought I saw a big cat walking along the fence. "SHOO!" I yelled, thinking it was the neighbor's cat who was killing off the birds at my feeder.

But it didn't move. It just stopped and stared at me and moseyed on. I ran back and got a flashlight and called DH and we found it - a possum - staring at us from the neighbor's giant redwood tree.

Oh, how I wanted him to stick around... I heard they ate bugs in the garden. Maybe it would eat grasshoppers! But no luck. It was gone the next day.

Fast forward to a few months ago. I was hosing down the brick pathway on the side of the house, when a pile of leaves refused to budge. I got up close and almost fainted from the stench. It was possum poop. OMG!!!!!!

    Sick

I cleaned the area well, emptied a can of Lysol spray on the bricks, and sprinkled some mothballs around to fend off any return visits. It must have worked; there were no more surprises.

Until this past Saturday, when DH asked if I wanted him to cut the roses that were blooming and bring them in for a bouquet. What a sweet idea! Of course!

So he brings the flowers in, and says "I have something to show you....."

He took me out to the rose garden, which is under a huge October Glory maple tree. Directly underneath is a cherub statue that we were given, and I just stuck it there because there was an empty space. I thought it was cute, because he was smelling a rose.

But our little statue seemed to be wearing a hat. And upon closer inspection, half his hat had fallen down his back. We both leaned in really close, and AUGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! POSSUM POOP!!!!!!!!! All I can think of is that this possum must be the size of a German Shepherd, and it must have crawled out on a branch and let loose.

Fortunately, DH was the hero of the day, removing the evidence and cleaning the scene of the crime. I took care of the rest... spraying another full can of Lysol everywhere. Tomorrow I'll tie bags of mothballs to the branches.

I just removed the close-up. You can just imagine.....

Sorry it wasn't a cuter story.... SWEET DREAMS!!!! Shocked

    3. Blessings! Just in case you are missin' your Possum! I gave you pictures! I remember hearing something out in the ditch, early one morning, and could barely see these 2 possoms fooling around in the ditch! They were pretty noisy! We quit throwing scraps out for the Crows & foxes...
    4. AND, possoums got in through the cat-door at our neighbors, and they raise hell scrounging around in the big covered can of cat-food! So we try and discourage the epidemic of possum..... Oh wait! I mean RACCOONS! Never mind....
    5. image
    6. I remember we were visiting our Daughter's family in Colo. Springs, before they moved to Orlando, and one night we were watching TV, and the outdoor light came on... So DD gets up, and throws a couple wieners out on the porch, so the Raccoons could eat! She is the one who now houses a passel of feral cats, 3 french hens, and I swore I saw a partridge.... or was it one of those monster pupa's that merge into some kind of monster butterfly? You Florida gals would know this one... It's has a "monster" like name....
And Momom, you say that DH's are a PITA when they are sick? What ever gave you that idea? You mean like when they have the sniffles, and are just positive they are about to kick the bucket? And it is YOUR job to save them?

Or when you say "I think it is the rod in my leg that is hurting something" and they say, "yeah, I kind of have that too, when I wake up in the middle of the night, and my arm falls asleep, and it hurts."

So morning Spookie, & Sass.... WHAT? You ran out of words? You barely even made a sentence.... Snooze

    lol

Yep Chevy. I'm bold as brass. I gave him back the attitude that I get from him when I'm the one who's sick and I ask politely for something to eat or drink.

  • Well, I'm sorry for those of you have to deal with "ugly" hubbies when you are sick!  Although, mine can sure be an ass, he does take really good care of me when I'm down!  And I'm the one that's the ass, I'm NOT a good patient!!  But thank goodness he looks past it and goes above and beyond!

mine can be a jerk too, but he's been pretty good since I'm in the cast. He even gave Spookie a bath! He wouldn't do that when I was sick from chemo. Guess he remembers what happened then. HaHa!

I took her to groomer for bath, 3 days later we had Kris. Guess he doesn't want any more dogs!!!!

I guess given the tide of DH comments I should mention that when I returned from Florida mine had the house clean and had cleaned the oven! That's amazing! He is a big baby when he's sick and I will bring things and fuss.. he does the same for me. I am not a fun patient.. grumpy.

I just found that other web site Sassy made on the owls, kitties and fuzzy things.. I busted up! Some of those posts are hilarious. How do you capture and send it off? The tombstone one about did me in and the cats in solid and liquid state! ha ha ha Teka don't delete posts, some of us just found the site. It's now in favorites for sure!! Good Morning... supposed to get up to 40 degrees today - flip flops anyone??

imageGood Morning to all.....Snow, freezing rain & below normal temperatures. I wear my beanie in the house. The house is usually 68-70 degrees, but still feels cold.

We signed the papers & listed the house yesterday. The house next to us, also went on the market within an hour of ours. Would help to have more shoppers. There house is substantially more $ than ours.

I am making Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, my brother & sister-in-law will be out of town next week, so I thought I would have them over. Plus, I think my kids will be around, & DD will stay home next week, first day the mt. Is open. She skis or boards obsessively.

Physical therapy is making me sore, but I know it's what I need.

Good Morning to all....stay safe & warm.....

morning Owls. I'm going to my next to last swimming class in a few. It's only 45 outside. Good thing they heat the pool. Won't be able to get back in the water for a couple months.

This is what my grandson found on our patio while we were on the cruise. I'd bought a large container for dry cat food so nobody would go hungry while we were gone. I lived here for 37 years and never saw raccoons here before. There were 3 of them

Chevy, you cracked me up with that thing about the rod in your leg hurting and DH comparing it to his arm falling asleep! Remember last week when I ate that piece of kielbasa and threw up half the night? Well, last night cousin was at class, so DH says, I'm going to cook up the rest of that kielbasa. You want some? I say, you've got to be kidding me. After I threw it all up the last time? Oh. So he cooks it anyway, and I'm sitting here nauseous from the smell. And later, he's sitting on the couch obviously not feeling well. I say, are you ok? No, that kielbasa didn't sit well. Well, at least you didn't throw it all up.he expects sympathy?

Like when I say, my knee hurts pretty bad. (Because I have no cartilage in it and can't take my Celebrex because I'm having a freakin biopsy this week!) And he says, yeah, mines hurting too. I think it's the weather.

Yeah, my life hurts! I THINK IT'S THE CANCER!!!

    Sheesh.

Hugs for all those who need or just want them

Get it with the hubbies who need us to wait on them when they're sick or not feeling well. Waited on DH all weekend (flu/colds going around his office). Made homemade chicken soup last night and fell asleep for the night, slept thru till 8 AM. Finally, a good night's sleep.

Chevy, I think that saying is Mimi's tag line.

  • Mommy - After we lost our beloved Cedar dog, both my husband and I were in tears and couldn't take it.  We knew we would adopt another one in time.  I went on-line and looked at photos that the local shelter had posted.  That did it for us.  Both of us were ready to adopt one of those faces looking at us.  We knew we wanted a terrier mix and a female.  Well, two days after our loss we were at the shelter, walking through the cages looking for the right adoptee.  Sandy is a male terrier mix that touched our hearts and has been an important part of our lives the past year.  I pray the same thing happens to you.

Yes Wren! It IS Meemers tag-line! Thank you! I just thought it "fit" us shorter people.... Ha! Hi GrammaKathy! We just can't get another dog yet.... I wish we could, but it's best, with me fooling around with this "wooden" leg...that I don't have to watch out for another critter! I'm glad for you...!

We visited our old friends in the Assisted Living place today.... I forgot the little dog treats and stuffed toy I wanted to give the little lady that lives next to Theresa... But I went in to see them anyway! "Wilma" has this cute little black toy poodle, that is just the sweetest thing! I love to pet her, and she keeps putting her head in my hands so I will scratch her! I'll just love everyone elses dog for now....

Those Raccoons are hysterical! What? Was Spookie asleep when I posted about them? AND added PICTURES? See, she wears these shorts and flip-flops, and this attire keeps the blood from circulating to her brain, so she doesn't think too straight! That's my theory anyway.

I forgot MoMom.... When I broke my femur, and got home from the Hospital after only 2 nights, DH DID help me soooooooo much! He fixed dinner, brought it in to me.... even helped lift my leg up onto the bed....like for a week!!! I felt so bad, because he was so "lost" when I could not do anything.... I mean I had to hurry home, for him.... I guess it's a 57 year thing.... I just wanted to be around him...

Sure I can tease, and go nuts when he acts like a 16 year old, but isn't that what we are for? It's like we can just be so PO'd for one thing, and then 10 minutes later, we come to our senses, and think, "what would I really do without him"?
