Morning gals... Susan, glad you are keeping busy! I'm busy too, keeping an eye out on that weather! Running back and forth to put pots on top of my tomatoes, because of cold and now HAIL! But it will be worth it....

Just CAN'T stay nice out! Except it looks like I see the SUN coming up this morning! Been a week since we had SUN! Every thing is wet, but not flooded like some parts...

So you wear the compression sleeve? How often do you take it off? I sleep with my compression stocking on for 2 days and 2 nights... take it off to shower, then put another one back on.... both legs, otherwise I look pretty funny.... but only ONE foot, ankle and let swell up...

When I take it off, if I don't put it on within a couple hours, it blows up like a balloon....

So whether it is Lymphedema or Edema, the treatment is the same. But I'm pretty sure it is Lymphedema... because of the messing around with those nodes on that side, and THEN falling and breaking my hip on that same side, and all the needles they had stuck in there after that surgery.

I'm just glad the stockings make it look normal! I ordered tighter ones, and they work MUCH better.... I couldn't put them on if I didn't have that Donner though.... DH helps me pull them off... Ha! That's his job.... at least he doesn't pull me off the chair anymore...image

    Morning Spookers and Sass!

JWow! Hey girl! I thought I was SEEING things! Glad you posted!

Yes, I read Texas is getting the same storms WE did! I roll my hair, comb it out, and it's like trying to your hair in the shower! So much humidity... it goes straight, and then frizzy... Ha! Yes, we needed the rain too, but maybe I'm done with it for awhile! At least it isn't snow!

Hey Wren! Have YOU been getting this rainy cold weather?

Smarty..... so sorry about your Mom.... and then getting sick on top of it all.....

Oh Loverly, that looks dee-LISH! It's been so long since we've had crepes!

Wait.... Okay.... just a quick question here.... Sassy, are "musas membarnes" the same as mucous membranes? Just wondering...

And how is she going to "shake it around in her mouth with water before swallowing?" Just thought I would point that out....

You really DO have good advice.... ! Just wanted to tease you, or you would think I was sick.

Reminds me of that guy saving that little ground squirrels life! He massaged his tummy, and he finally LIVED! What patience! Don't know if my HUSBAND would spend that much time saving ME!

Morning Rosie... Yes, let's complain! I am so WET! I mean everything is filled with water! The squirrels are even sick of it! I think all the mice have drownded! (I know that's spelled wrong, but it looked funny.)

What do you mean move the fluid manually? Do you massage it back up your arm? I wonder if I could massage that fluid UP my leg, away from my foot and ankle? Or just wear the stockings... It swells right back up, after awhile....

But you SHOULD wear your sleeve! I think you should.... Is it just too hard to get on? I need to know.... I have to fix you.....

Spookers.... sounds like you have to battle it all the time! I'm sorry....

Is lymph fluid just about the same as water? I don't understand this at all.....

Hi Mel! Doesn't it make you feel good to get stuff cleaned??? If it would just STAY that way!!!

Glad the Claritin D helped!! Hope your pups are okay....

    Hey Blondie! You doing okay?

    You too MammaRay!

The LE pumps work pretty much the same way DVT pumps do. Squeeze, release, repeat. Medicare will pay for them, not cheap, couple thousand. Lymph is a clear fluid, may be mixed with blood, depending on injury. Didn't realize she did it, wondered why the chair was all wet at dog park. Made a real mess on my shirt.

The last time I had cellulitis it didn't present the way they talk about it on the LE threads. Fooled me. Now I know a little more. Will continue to watch it, but the way it leaked I think all the germs washed out.

This dog flu thing is spreading like wildfire. I remember years ago they actually closed the Greyhound track here because of it.

wren, I am a hairdresser, gardener, knitter, and I love to carry and move heavy things...my friends call me a blockhead....lol. Prob my worst enemy...but, I'd rather live with a swollen arm than not live.....by live I mean doing life...I will be getting one of those arm thingys, hate tight stuff...promise I won't complain about it :)

    Go blackhawks....wow such intense games.

    Happy Sunday to all

Thanks for the mind telepathy sas !!!!

Thanks, everyone. Jazzy, your post confirmed my own research on the dog flu: Fever, cough, nasal discharge, lethargy and decreased appetite. Mine had none of these. Vomit and bloody diarrhea. Both ate their breakfast. Big dog had a little lethargy that morning, Rose was her perky self.

She is not her perky self today. He has recovered his energy to some extent and ate breakfast, she ate half of hers.

It's not the food. The vets have seen several cases just last week, and can't find a commonality. They promised to let us know when they find out. We have had the same vet since we moved here 13 years ago. He's very good. These kids have never known anyone else.

Chances of it being passed on by other dogs is very slim since they never leave our premises except for Rose getting groomed, which was a month ago, so way past most incubation times. No city spraying, no pesticides in the yard, no dead animals, etc. We think he got it first, he started symptoms 24 hours befor she did.

Anyway, still a mystery. I'll sure let you know when we have an answer. In the meantime, here's Rose's baby picture.

Ms. Spookie, so sorry to hear about your complication...leaking lymph for 4 hours would send me into a panic mode. Goodness grief!!!! Hope Humana will authorize the LE pump soon.

My Sis's Shih Tzu and Poodle mix looks like she could be related to your babies

    image

Mika is 4. She is very calm and could be a therapy dog. She has this amazing sixth sense of when to sit quietly by your side. The previous owner had to rehome her because the family 10 yr old Pit Bull tried to attack her, so she was kept in a small crate for 7-8 hrs a day when they are at work.

Rose, so sweet the sight of children enjoying the simple things of life. Can't wait to see their pics.

Mag, your Rose is so cute! Glad the babiesare home and healing.

Jazzy, can't wait to see the pics of the botanical garden.

Ms. Chevy, my Heirloom tomato plant from a seed. Only two made it out of twelve. Not sure what happened to the other seedlings:( I suspect slugs or snails...thought they don't like tomato leaves....hmmmm

Cute pup Mags. Mom slept good last night. Having coffee now. Just weak.

I'm picking up go soon so he can finish his quilt.

Loverly, I love going to Crepeville. Get the Hawaiian crepe every time! We'll have to go when you're moving more.

Smaarty, good to hear Mom had good rest. Sleep is important.

Sounds like a good plan; would love to try the Hawaiian crepe. The Mediterranean crepe was ok. I actually liked the tuna melt sandwich my DD ordered

Jazz - thanks for the Allegra D recommendation - I'm definitely going to try that since my allergies are bothering me today since I didn't take anything. I have some regular Allegra that my DD2 had taken, but I really think I need the decongestant component. I went through my medicine cabinet a little while ago looking to see if I had any decongestants and all I found was a lot of expired stuff, so I'll have to go to the store. At least I got that cabinet cleaned out!

Chevy - Yes - I do feel great getting some of my cleaning done! I just love that feeling, but, as you said, it's just too bad it doesn't stay that way!

Mags - sorry to hear about your dogs. I have been wondering what triggered the coughing in mine. Since they are still eating fine and Spencer's is getting better, I'm hoping he will be over it soon. Dixie, for such a little thing, sure cough loud - especially in the middle of the night! She is a few days behind him with this, but so far today she hasn't been too bad.

Spookie - sorry to hear about your arm troubles!

Loveroflife - I saw a note a number of pages back where you asked about my shoulder - thanks! I think it is actually a combination of muscle trouble and joint trouble. I'm not sure if the exercises will help the joint, but they do seem to be helping loosen up the muscles.

Been extra lazy today after all my cleaning yesterday - made pancakes and doing some laundry, but so far, nothing else productive an it is already 2:30! The fun stuff I did was to watch some of the Disney World vacation DVD we got in the mail. We've had it for a few weeks, but hadn't taken the time to watch it yet. DD2 and I were talking about our upcoming trip and wanted to see what we have to look forward to - it was fun, but it's long! We are on the last section, but took a break and will finish it later. I actually have some stuff to do for work, so I think I will work on that in a few minutes.

Just noticed the notes about crepes - can't remember if I mentioned that we went to a crepe place in Wilmington when we were there for DD1's graduation. They were delicious! The best part was that they make gluten free ones so DD2, my Dad and I could enjoy them as well!

Hey Mel!! Lazy Sunday is good (well for us usually after church). You deserve a break after the cleaning you did yesterday! Yes, it would be so nice the house stays clean. I always ask my kids and Hubby to please let me at least enjoy a clean house for a few days before I have to start all over again....one of the trivial things I fuss about.

Glad to hear your shoulder is a bit better. Whenever I am stressed or have to work with the computer a lot, I carry the tension in my neck and shoulder. Massage really helps with the muscle spasm. I usually have my DH find the knots and release them by putting pressure on the knot with the finger/ thumb and move it in circular motion. It will hurt at first but then you will feel good afterwards. If it's joint then you just have to try to rest it. With your work, I guess it's tough to stay away from the computer or repetitive movements right

Loveroflife - Thanks! Yes, I am going to try *really* hard to keep up with the clean now that it has been done so fully. So far, so good, but it's only been a day - LOL! Funny you mentioned the massage thing - my DH and I used to always take turns giving each other shoulder massages while watching TV. Not sure how or when it happened, but we haven't done that in literally years. Something made me think of it recently - probably my sore shoulder - and I mentioned it to him and we have started the massages again! It's a win-win situation since we both love shoulder massages! Yes, it is hard to stay away from the computer, especially with work, so that is why I haven't been on it much at home. I just need to keep a good balance and take breaks to stretch and I will see if that helps.

And how are you feeling? I hope you are good!

I am slowly getting my energy back. Thanks for asking. Acquired tinnitus again with this surgery from the Keflex PS gave me to help prevent infection, but no complaints because I can still hear the birds and the wind chime in my backyard :) I hope the ringing is temporary because it's hard to fall asleep at times. I am still sore, worse when I forget and move my a arms more than I am supposed to. If I was not married or a widow , I would probably stay flat....well, lopsided because I was a Uni. Don't want bc to rob us of the intimacy also. I was too self-conscious. Ok, sorry too much info there.

DD took the AP Chem exam and said it was really hard. The year that my youngest brother had Chem, only 3 out 40 in his class passed. Yikes! Her teacher told the class anyone who passes with a 3 score automatically get an A in the class, so the child carried the Prep book with her everywhere she went. Now she is trying to study for the SAT that is coming up in 2 weeks. Your DD2 is done with the SAT right? Will DD1 pursue graduate study or she is done and ready to look for a job

No little Loverly.... We talk about everything here.... Don't forget.... I am 77, and we are still THAT with each other.... Hope you get your energy back FAST! Sometimes we just feel awful.... don't want to move.... but drag yourself out of bed anyway.... drink coffee.... and go outdoors...

Man, I hated school.... And didn't go to College.... I know that's hard for y'all to believe, but Nope.... only graduated High School, then met my DH that year, and we got married 1 1/2 years later....

I'm glad I don't have to help any kids out with their school-work... especially MATH! My worst subject....

I can beat that Chevy, got married at 17, the summer before my senior year started. Finished high school, went to work, had kids, the rest is history. Took some college classes but theywere fun types.

Loveroflife - glad your energy is coming back - I hope the tinnitus resolves soon. I think that is one of the things my DD2 had with a Zpack years ago. It's such a bummer when you get side effects from the meds! As Chevy said, no worries - all sharing is good! I can totally understand your feelings!

Yes, DD2 is done with the SAT!! She improved her scores the second time, so she was happy about that (and we were, too)! She did well the first time, but I think it helped her to see that studying a bit more and taking it the second time gave her higher results. I hope your DD gets that 3 she is looking for on the AP Chem exam! Mine took the AP English exam last Wednesday, so we'll see how she did on that. DD1 is ready to look for a teaching job but is also looking into taking classes to get certified to teach Pre-K and younger. Her degree was in Elementary Education. I suggested years ago that she look into getting a double with both because I knew how much she likes the younger ones but she didn't think it would fit in her schedule. Now she wishes she had done it. It doesn't look like it will be too many credits, though so hopefully she will be able to do it without too much trouble.

Chevy - my best friend and I always joke about math being the hardest thing to help the kids with once they got past Elementary school...many times I had to say that I had no idea how to do whatever they were doing!

OMD!!! Math. I have 10 fingers, 10 toes. That's about the best I can do. The grands ask me to look over their homework I tell them to have their mom check it. 1st grade is beyond me, 4th is like a foreign language. I read numbers wrong all the time, it's called dyscalculia.

Well, neither DH nor I have a college degree, yet he is a manager in the IT department of an insurance corporation in charge of a web applications development team, and I ran my own graphics arts business for 18 years. We both made more than our college educated siblings.

Yesterday was the 28th anniversary of the day we met. We married 2 months later. I am 9 years older than he. We have so many strikes against us it's a miracle we've made it. My family had bets on how long we'd last, and I think they topped out at 5 years. His folks waited a year to send us a wedding present. We got married at the courthouse by a cross eyed judge. We couldn't tell who he was talking to. Our reception was at my sister and BIL's house and we had leftover wedding cake and champagne from their big church wedding the month before.

    It's been an adventure.

Mags--glad the furkids are doing better. Mine are my only children and I would be completely broken if something happened to one of them, especially at this time in my life.

First chemo got bumped to Wednesday instead of Thursday. It's only 20 hours difference but I'm still kind of pissed that the forced me to change my time. I feel like I have little enough control as it is with cancer and one small piece of control was choosing my appointment times. <sigh> Add in being down with a sinus infection for the last few days and I'm having a peachy time. At least the weather is will be warming up. Positively freezing with a high of 68 the last couple of days...

Sas--good advice on calling 911 first. Over the course of my 21 year career of giving pre-arrival medical instructions, I've only had one call where we were unable to dislodge the object before the medics arrived on scene but given that our average response time from phone call to arrival is about 5 minutes, that one person would not have made it had the family waited to call. And that's one time too many.

Loverly - I took the AP chem test 27 years ago and scored a 5. It's tough and I don't think I slept for the whole 3 days prior. Didn't get me squat, though, other than 6 college units. I was a biochem major and my university made me start all over with Intro to Chem. And now I'm a dispatcher so I don't use any chem. I did, once upon a time, save a group of people stranded on a boat about 2 miles off of shore with the cunning use of Trigonometry. So if anyone ever complains about not using math later in life, you can tell them that math saves lives. My brother has Ph.D and is a math professor at South Dakota State University and uses that line in his classes. Plus, he worked with cancer researchers at the Mayo clinic a few years back developing mathematical models for viral therapy in Immuno-oncology.

I may have to get him that T-shirt!

Morning gals........... Marla, can you still get chemo if you have a sinus infection? Make sure you tell them that...

I never had chemo, and don't know anything about it, but just thought I read somewhere, that it matters, if you aren't feeling well....

YOU took chemistry? Man, you guys are smarter than I was/am... This must be college we are talking here? When EYE was a kid, my folks didn't have enough money, to barely get by... much less send me to college, and IF I wanted to go... Ha!

Besides, they MOVED out of State right after I graduated high-school...

(Wait.... I didn't MAKE them leave, it wasn't on account of ME that they left, Ha! It was more that they decided to make a new life... and my Brother and I .... oh never mind....) They wanted a new life without any encumbrances .... like kids or old "friends".... image You know...come to think of it...... that really sucked, them leaving us!

And I wouldn't leave my "boy-friend" who then became my husband 1 1/2 year later... to tag along with them.

So we had each other... that was all that mattered... and still do... all 57 years together...

All I ever wanted was a happy marriage... First a Husband, then hopefully we could have children, THEN maybe our own home.

And I got everything I ever wanted... I didn't shoot big... just wanted my own happy life....

Congratulations Mel! Our DD1 finished college by working her way through, grants, student loans, and working part-time... She also got financial aid... I was only working part-time, so we couldn't help her out much... but she MADE it! Very proud of her....

I admire ANYbody who is comfortable with math, and figuring things out!

Spookie! YOU just made that up! What is "dyscalculia?" She made that UP girls....

Oh for DOGS sakes! She knows what she is talking about! No WONDER I had such a hard time!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyscalculia

I'll be darned! BUT, I make up for it by having the ability to remember NUMBERS! I make up for that lack of whatever, by learning and remembering numbers from childhood even! Like that's gonna help me now..... But I know all of our account numbers by heart, and phone numbers, addresses, from when I was a child! So see? I DO know something... Ha!

Nice shirt Mags! I didn't see anything wrong with it at first!

Mags- I liked your story about your husband and yourself beating the odds, and everyone saying it would not work out. And that you are and have done well professionally. I come from a huge family of naysayers and they always tried to tell me "you can't" which only means they couldn't. They have had to choke on my accomplishments more than a few times.

I am watching the Weather Channel this morning and they are talking about the severe flooding in OK, including OK City. Are you guys okay?

How about our TX friends (Luvmygoats?)

We are ok here, our house sets high enough and we have pretty good drainage. But I have seen some horrible pics from around the state and Texas. With a week left in the month, May is already the wettest month on record in Oklahoma. We've had over 18" of rain so far, and the old record was 14.52". We are expecting another downpour this afternoon. I think I have mold in my underarms, scared to check.

Mags- whew, glad you are okay. I saw the Trinity River in Dallas is way high and have many friends in TX who live in that area. I heard more rain is coming.

Mold in the underarms is funny.....

For those who are interested, I posted a whole series of pics on the Gardening Thread from my trip to the Botanical Garden in Santa Fe yesterday. Rather than re-post, since I am still up here "resorting" today, I thought I would just send you to that link to see them if you are interesting.

Blessings to everyone here and their families on Memorial Day.Thank you to everyone here who may have served.

Enjoy your day, the pool and hot tub are calling......

20 feet in one hour. Oh My, those poor people and animals.

Chevy and Loverly, I did, I did, mortal sin, SR. Ann would be so unhappy.

Mel, when I clean out the medicine area in the linen closet, the question is who bought all this stuff? I've been de-cluttering for a couple of years now.

Math, I hated it too. But I did the Drug calculation lecture for my paramedic students. It was algebra. Every year someone would raise their hand a say very knowingly "This is just algebra". I was always pretty controlled in my response. It followed the line of "We don't use that word here". Some students would just shut down once they heard that word. Made my work harder. Only lost 2 out of the ones that didn't complete. One other student showed up after 43 hours of tutoring for the last two hours(45 total). Failed on the 3rd try. Then she asked what we could do. "Nothing". Keep in mind I'd come in on the weekend all kinds of weird hours and extra evening hours. I don't count her as my failure.

The test that irritates me is the PSAT. National test that is tied to the National Merit Scholarships. Think it's tenth grade. Material on it is not covered until the next grade. You can imagine the discussion once I found this out. It can be taken again after the material is covered, but it doesn't qualify them for the scholarship program. I imagine other states do it after the material is covered, but Florida doesn't.
