Not falling physically. Just want his oxygen saturations to drop to justify the supplemental oxygen order. Got to think like Medicare thinks. That's why she wants him to stress a little bit to push it down. Doc at least is coming around lol.

Sas: glad doctor is coming around. Hope Charlie fails enough to get the home oxygen. In this case, failing would be a good thing. And yes, I'm in Gatorland! It's actually my 3rd time living here,,, so I hope 3rd time is the charm, cuz I don't plan on ever moving.

Susan-------fail not fall.Medicare is wonderful, but sometimes not too smart. In this case of Charlie with acute anemia. The overall affects of acute anemia are very stressfull for the entire body. Very. If the measurement is based on a device that measures a singular parameter without a balance of what that means, the patient can suffer. It can lead to permanent damage or death. For example, Heart rate. Normal 60-100. Usually, resting heart rate is 60 to 80. But varies with activity. With cardio workout we expect it to get higher than 100 and recover to resting rate with x amount of minutes. In acute anemia, that rate can be very altered. Plus, if the person was on certain drugs i.e beta blockers which block elevated heart rate. How do we access need. We think. We don't base action on numbers. We base action on what we know of physiology---how the body works. what are the feedback systems to control changes. With the pulse oximeter great advancement in science.........but if the physiology wasn't learned............a danger occurs.
Pissed............... he didn't fail--------he only dropped to 90%---fail was 88%...... Chit.

Sassy - He will have home health, right? And he has a previous cardiac diagnosis? I would think any HH nurse (I'm assuming he's going home, not rehab) worth her weight would measure his O2 sat at home. Maybe send out his caregiver to buy his own pulse oximeter. Walgreens seems to have some and are noted to be in stores in Akron area (?DB's area?). Cannot get it to copy/paste product URL here. Same with CVS. But I will say as a caveat I've never worked HH. I know it is much more diagnosis driven (read reimbursement) than hospice.

MR. Homeschooling. You're stronger than you think if your tackling that. I think the lack of estrogen and adjusting to dx makes us less patient. Is he 1st or K? Mine is first. He's reading Junie B Jones. I took over reading after the first few chapters. I had to keep stopping and saying we don't say that, we don't do that. I love Junie B but hope he doesn't pick up anymore bad habits!

Everyone on BCO has taught me a lot about marketing since I joined cancer land. I still like pink and my support group does pink things. I do have a couple blush pumpkins I put out for myself. But I do that for me - sort of my Emmy. We have a Kroger here that contains a small jewelry store and of course I was looking at a pink necklace for a whole other reason. A lady working there asked me if I was buying it for BC Awareness month. When I told her no, it led to some chatter between us. Long story short, she had been told twice to have a biopsy and hadn't done it because of insurance. She also was convinced the doctor just wanted more money. I offered to show her my chest if it would increase her "awareness" and probably scared the chit out of her. I offered her money to help, to help her with the insurance as my nephew is a family doctor (his wife died of BC), whatever to get her into action. I don't know, she didn't seem very concerned. I'll check back on her soon.
I do like pink. I like purple too. It stands for epilepsy and I've had two seizures. So, I don't mind colors being used. But, I dislike the pretty version that is sold. I think we should show more reality than we do. I've learned through all of you to be more sensitive and have become more sensitive to the foolish banter I hear and read. I just cancelled a neighborhood event for BC because it wasn't coming together right. It's like any disease in this country, you have to provide a song and dance to get a donation. I prefer to donate to an individual if they need help or a research hospital. I pulled out of all Komen events much to the surprise of my support group. But, I don't hate pink. I like to think it has helped in many ways and has went so far now that there is no way in heck people are going to reverse their thinking of that color. What we need to do is find better and smarter ways to do something with pink. Like me buying that pink Mustang and riding around topless!!!!
My husband has prostrate cancer several years back and I didn't see jock straps flying or penis's flying around on banners. So, not sure how we got our breasts plastered, calling them tatas and whatevers, every place I look. I think I'm going to start a new line of marketing materials! Love all you guys.

Mema- I love your post. I am glad you were able to have the conversation with that woman. I think you shared many good things with her to give her some options for how to get things checked out. It is good of you if you reach out again to keep in touch.
She sounds like she just does not trust the medical community at all? There are doctors that are trying to make money, I have met some that are a bit surgery happy, but not true of cancer docs. They are trying to save your life........
I also think you are right about there being less attention about the male parts with marketing efforts. Prostate cancer is as big a problem for men as bc is for women.

Ms. Spookie and Ms. Sas, you gave me an excellent idea about using the car key as a weapon. I googled and showed the picture of the prizm to Dd2(12 yrs old) and her response was "we should get the car for Sis because if she wrecked it, it wouldn't matter because it's not a very nice looking car." This is the same child who asked me if the reason I got a ticket was from driving too slow. I have to admit that I was told by my Sisters many times that I drive like a "grandma"....no offense to all the grandmas on here.
Rose, I hope you got your nap and are not too taxed from the family gathering. Guilt is terrible because it drains you of your energy

loveroflife....no gift..or kinda I guess. I have no idea how long I will be here. So I started a box up that I fill with knitting for future grandkids. If I am not here, they have something from me, if I am here, I get to see them in them. My daughter and her hubby love to see what's in the box. It's not sad for me, it makes me very happy doing this. Her hubby is in med schoo, so prob awhile til they have kids.

I manage to skip a lot of the "pink" marketing out here. That and not too many trips into town scheduled for October so I won't see much.
Zills - I finally got my cuppa Yorkshire Gold today. DH's been off for 3 days so it's been coffee in the mornings.

Lovelife- Love the photo bombed pictures especially the camel and Susan your knitting is gorgeous! Any little one would look great and be warm and toasty. I shouldn't ever post when I am all emotional and her text did me in. DD1 is retarded, autistic and about the same age developmentally as a 7 year old, so she wants her Mom and Dad. I think she understands why but it's the emotional component. Had a lovely day with my girls.. so fine to see them together and the weather was beautiful sunny warm.
Luvgoats- I don't have all the supplies I need. They sent me home with a box and pamphlet. They didn'teven send home any dressing supplies and such. I was told "do not touch it until HH nurse comes out Monday." I am trying to be a good patient.. but I noticed getting ready for bed tonight there is some drainage and the dressing will need to be changed tomorrow. So if they don't show up I need to go get some supplies. Stupid of me not to have some here, I thought I would be given some. Hope they do show up cause I am sure another couple liters need to come off. It's funny how on BCO there is precious little about ascites and what happens. Folks pass before they write much. I feel so tired and "out of it" that it's just getting me down. At least now when the next person ends up with ILC and gets ascites there will be something to read. I just wish I understood what the cancer gets out of all the fluid production. What benefit does ascites provide for the cancer cells? I have read and read and can't find the answer to that. Sas or Luvmygoats do you know?
Sassy- Glad your DB is home and better. Mema loved your response. Pinktober is not my favorite. I try to focus on Halloween since our neighborhood goes ballistic for Halloween and there is a crush of happy excited kids. It's one of my favorite holidays because of the little kids... the 2 year olds who hollars "me pick!" Never put too many choices in the candy bowl!

Jazzy....yep, the essay that I just got the grade on was the one I was having trouble with. Looks like we are finally going to finish Poe this week and start with Virginia Woolf. Sure she is going have us do discussions and possibly an essay.
More news on my aunt. No movement still in the left arm, but she might be moved to where she is going to do her therapy today. I'll know more tonight or tomorrow at the latest.

Rose: I love Halloween too! especially the little kids. Last year's "cutie for the win" award went to a little boy about 2, who, when pressed by Mama, managed to produce "zcquivit?" (Trick or treat?) for candy, then spotted a late snapdragon and repeated, considerably more enthusiastically "Zcquivit!" He got one of the blossoms.
I don't blame you a bit for getting emotional about your daughter's post, much less posting about it. I teared a bit, and I haven't any kids or mobility limitations.

It's 9am and I called my oncologist office to see which home health agency they are using. Then I called the home health agency only to find out that there was no referral placed. The Home Health agency hasn't any idea who I am and won't be out today. The surgery nurses told me it was all faxed Friday after the Pleurx drain was placed. The receptionist said the order was placed Saturday... I find that odd since the center is closed on Saturday and I was told orders for home health and supplies were faxed Friday and not to touch it and they would be out Monday. Hmmm
Welcome to my world where nothing is easy and don't expect anything ever. Well I just decided to edit this, since I am grateful to have gotten the drain placed so quickly but if you can't use it what point is there.
Mommy- Great grade on your paper and you will LOVE Virgina Woolf! She was very cool and advanced for her time. Amazing woman. Smarty love all the quilts. Just beautiful. Can't get over Susan's knitting skills just beautiful.

Smaarty - I am just amazed imagining all the work going into the quilt show. They are all lovely. Sorry they didn't judge your beautiful rose. Batting/flannel I guess I don't see the difference.
Rosie Sweetie - after all the exhausting phone calls do they have the order straight now I hope. Bit of drainage, increasing or staying about the same? Serous or sero-sang? Damp? Maybe make a couple of calls to a bigger pharmacy (esp near a medical center) and see it they have any single packages of drain sponges - so you don't have to buy 50 of them or however they're packaged. Is that what is on it or is there a bigger bulkier surgical dressing? And Jazzy's right, it shouldn't be this hard. And you are sure no dummy to the medical community's wacko doings. The one blurb I read on ascites said irritation from the CA cells themselves, blocked lymph pathways, liver malfunction, etc onto worse stuff. I had never thought of CA cells being irritants.
