You won't find gu at CVS but they do sell Clliff gel and shot blocks at Whole Foods. Honestly, I don't think you need these things unless you are participating in endurance events.

More food: brown a little chicken or shrimp in extra virgin olive oil, chop up as many different veggies as you can get your hands on, pour some white wine in and saute.

Ruth, last night I made Fricken Chicken (recipe courtesy of Rosemary) brown chicken in EVOO, add 1/4 c Balsamic, 1/4 c white wine. Add garlic to taste, I added thyme and marjoram then chooped up bok choy and mushrooms and steamed and boy oh boy was it good!

By the looks of it, Gatorade is fine for me. I do strenuous exercise, but not for more than an hour at a time.

Barbara A 'Recipe sounds so good.I noticed you are taking Nordic Natural Fish Oil.I have been looking for fish oil and co q10 without soybean oil in it.Is it soybean oil free?Doctor told me to not eat a lotof soy.

I got same advice - no soy oil. I get Nordics Natural Fish Oil at Whole Foods - 16 oz bottle, in vitamin section. Doesn't need refrigeration until opened. I get all my other supplements from The Village Green Apothecary, Bethesda, MD just off NIH campus. They make their own products, Pathway, and I've been using them for about 30 years. I used to live nearby, now I get them mail order. They've got a good website. I get my Co-Q10 from them too, they're made in RICE BRAN OIL.

My contribution to the food discussion is fish filets with veggie sauce. This was given to me by someone who once worked for me, who is a cook too.
Take filets of a white fish (catfish, tilapia, etc.) put in a baking dish, and pour salsa over. Use one of the ones with veggies in it. Bake until bubbly.
I used cod, and Trader Joe's bruschetta last night, so did an Italian version. It was super yum, and I have half left over. I usually make rice with it, but last night was roast baby potatoes. Then wonderful fresh sugar snap peas.
Zero work.
(I find it very funny that I eat very healthy food EXCEPT during cycling events when I eat for fuel and endurance. Agree that most of the time we don't need GU gel, but electrolyte replacement is important any time it is hot and doing anything outside. For example, mowing your lawn on a hot day.)
Need to get rolling. Have a fun "happy hour" breakfast planned with a friend. Suspect it will replace some of those calories I burned off last weekend. - Claire

One of my favorite ways to cook fish is to saute any fish you like. Season the fish with whatever you like then use soy flour to coat it and then saute in EVOO. The flour takes on a nutty flavor as it is sauted. Not overwhelming but you can taste it.

I'm in FL, too - Ft. Lauderdale. Has anyone here had any experience with gluten-free baking, without eggs? I am not gluten-free, but a lot of my Pink Kitchen fans are asking for more gluten-free recipes, so I'm trying to expand my skills

I skimmed over this thread, but your comments started me thinking about the ph balance of our bodies. Here is your comment that made me sit up and take note:
The theory regarding making the body more acidic or alkalinic from medications and supplements is total nonsense. Our bodies have a complex and efficient way of maintaining its own pH. No matter what alkalines or acids you take in in your diet, the mechanisms within our body adjust it to the pH necessary.
Is it true then, that no matter what we put into our bodies, the ph system will adjust to its necessary ph.
The reason I ask is that I was always a huge fruit eater. Hated sweet desserts and junk food but loved fruit and I considered it healthy living. When I was young my uric acid was always high. Nobody told me how to lower it,..they just said..its high, try to lower it.
Years later, after dx., I researched anti cancer foods and avoided acidic foods. I follow the anti cancer diet and liver loving foods...such as lots of green veg, and limiting fruit to 2 or 3 per day, and one being a lemon. The reason for the lemon is that it is an acidic fruit and the end result will be an alkaline result whereas sweet fruits will end up acidic. Foods like meat, processed foods will all end up acidic in the body.
I told my oncologist who is very health conscious and she nodded with approval with what I was doing ( I told her about testing my saliva with ph strips to ensure I was making my body more alkaline). She said "I wish all my patients were health conscious" then she added," but don't use the ph strips to test urine because the body is constantly going through elimination processes to adjust its ph balance" Exactly what you said.
I am a bit confused now and ask that you point me to research to learn more. Here's the reason.Now that I am focussed on a more alkaline diet, my uric acid is now in the normal range and has been for the last 3 tests, which means that the lemon added in my diet must be doing something. (Every morning I drink the juice of one lemon in warm water). Plus I increased the amount of green veg into my diet and limited the fruit intake.
I would like to learn more about this subject and hope that you can point me in the right direction.

pinkkitchen I do some baking gluten free but i do use eggs. I have purchased the powered egg substitute because some of my recipes call for it. I don't bake alot though and use a gluten free cookbook that I purchased. It has wonderful recipes in it.
painterly I hope someone knows more about Alkaline diet. I was just looking at a book on that at the health food store today. I was very interested in it and think I will probably go back and purchase it.
Ruthbru can't believe zucchinis are so expensive in ND. Maybe you need to plant a garden? I am already planning my fall garden as I have to start planting mid to late august. I have never done a fall garden so this will be an experiment for me.

ruthbru..can you grow your own zucchini? Seriously..you probably could grown them anywhere! They are a very hardy plant..
