    Good Evening Ladies~

I've been able to read some of the recent posts via my phone but not all of them.  I def have some catching up to do here!

MargieC~ Thank you for the good wishes for my final weekend with my original "girls."  I've been doing a great job of letting my fam and bestie keeping me distracted.  The down side is that I haven't packed a single thing yet!

deniseday~ I know this all really sucks but I'm relieved to know that you have solid support and love surrounding you.  Very cool re: the shirts!

ILuv2Knit~ How are you feeling today?  I know that I'm going to feel equally frustrated with feeling tired and non-energetic but in the same breath, I'm also be happy if my meds knock me out for long periods of time until my pathology comes back.  That is naturally what I am most dreading... the excruciating wait for results.

AthabascanWP~ Oh no re: the allergic reaction!  As for the bra burning, I wanted to do the same; however, my bestie is very eager to take possession of my bra and bikini top collection! :)  At least they shall live on!

rachelvk~ Really like GrandmaV's suggestion re: your BF making up for the difference in rent. Ordinarily, I would have to pay those extra fees but these are indeeed extenuating circumstances.

TexasRose~ Sending warm thoughts to you.  Sorry you have to wait until the 25th for your appointment but glad that you were able to get a bit of a heads up.  Happy to hear that your right breast was clear :)

Ann~ ACKKK--- so sorry to hear about the TE fill pain :(  I wish I had insight re: TEs and rads--- hopefully someone with more experience can offer some info.

    *************

I'm surprisingly doing very well today thanks to my family keeping me super super super busy today.  Without these distractions, I'm quite sure I'd be falling apart.  At this point, I'm just ready to take this show on the road :)  Tonight, I'm prepping all of my food to pack in my cooler (as there's NO way I'll consciously agree to eat hospital food!)    I haven't even started packing my overnight bag yet, but food always takes precedence in my book :)

My Mom wants to take me to lunch tomorrow.  Does anyone know if having just ONE glass of wine the day before surgery would be detrimental to Monday's surgery?  I'd love to enjoy a glass with her but I'll of course abstain if needed :)

    Good night my Beautiful Friends!

    AJ

Dukes_up- I have read others post that they had a glass of wine the night before surgery so I would think that one at lunch should be fine.

My advice to my surgery sisters for this week is:

Take it easy. Let others take care of you. Take your pain meds before you need them. Drink a ton of water. Take your stool softener before you need it. Use an alcohol wipe to help you strip your drains. Find some mindless TV or something on netflix to take your mind off of everything related to the big C. I only went from the recliner in my bedroom to the bathroom and back for almost the whole first week. I dozed on and off all day.It will be a crappy couple of weeks but you are all fighters and you  can get through this! I am a wimp and if I made it through you will too!

I'm feeling ok. The anesthetic ball thing had to come out. It was leaking all ove the place! But it wS clearly doing it's job because the AND wound is starting to bother me. Nothing I can't handle. Although pulling I out was nasty...it just kept com in and coming. Didn't know my body could hold that much tubing! The lumpectomy wound is just fine. No pain or discomfort at all. CookieMonster - it was a breeze. No worrying! Just took a perc time to rest. GlD to hear everyone is doing well. I agree the waiting sucks. Pathnreports or surgery waiting is horrible. Ginger- have the wine. How bad could it be? Dukes - keeping busy is great. Less time to stress out.

    Hi Everyone,

I came home from hospital yesterday, there were some problems with myb blood pressure being too low - and trying to get the pain meds managed for me kept me in the hospital for 5 days but I'm home and happy to be!  I am exhausted and ache from head to toe, but I expected that I just have a quick question is anyone else fight heartburn like crazy? it's really getting to me any ideas on helping control it would be appreciated...

Praying for continued safe and speedy recoveries for all, as always Lisa

Kelleyod:  Sorry its been so long!  I had 200cc filled at time of surgery - just had 60 more filled yesterday and scheduled for my next one in a couple of weeks...the 60 didn't feel like much but I've still got a lot of swelling.

AnnAlive:  Are you planning on filling during radiation?  My ps says it's fine but I don't know about the radiation folks yet.  I've got my simulation on Monday so I guess I'll find out!

All the best to those who are recovering; and calming thoughts out to those who are pre-op...

    LisaWade,

So glad to hear you're home.  I've had heartburn all my life.  I should have bought stock in the company that makes Tums.  During my pregnancies (more than 30 years ago) I lived on them.  They've always helped me.  I think I remember reading somewhere on the chemo threads that chewing raw parsley helped their heartburn and acid reflux.  I haven't tried it though. Maybe someone else will have a better suggestion.

LisaWade-I am on a prescription strength of prilosec but you can buy it over the counter at a lesser strength. Also, tums work great for immediate relief.

LisaWade -if it is worse laying down, elevating the head of the bed several inches (with blocks, etc.) helps.  Also avoid eating just before bedtime.  And I highly concur with the Prilosec for long-term control. Pepcid and TUMS give more immediate relief.  My pharmacist says they can all be taken without interaction - check with yours to be safe for your medical history.

Oh and lastly avoid tomato-based products or juices that have lots of acid.

    Hi Ladies,

I'm getting nervous for Wednesday! I had to have an endometrial biopsy Wednesday in preparation for my ooph/hyst, then got a call I didnt want to hear. During a holy day where we are actually supposed to drink and feel happy, i had to haave a coloposcopy and cervical biopsy . My GYN found a spot on my cervix. She thinks it could be just vasculitis, but, she isn't sure, thus the biopsy. Poop. I'm so nervous.

Ok, going to sleep. Night, ladies.

LisaWade - I have been having bad heartburn ever since surgery too. I normally take prescription prilosec every day and it controls the heartburn just fine. But not last night or today So I have been popping tums like crazy all day. I'm hoping tomorrow will be better?

Eema - I'm sorry to hear about the colposcopy. I hope the results are nothing to worry about. I had a string of irregular pap smears last year - they finally cleared up, and then I got my bc dx!

LisaWade - Prilosec really works well (but you have to take it regularly). I hope that gets cleared up soon.

And to DukesUp, RK85, Eema, 9911, Ginger, Cookiemonster and Deniseday - Wishing you the best this week.

I'm really starting to feel the stress. Didn't get nearly as much done this weekend as I hoped. I got sidetracked by little things. I haven't even gotten a maid service lined up to clean my apartment before I come back, and it's too late to do it myself. The next 3 days are booked solid. But I'm thankful for all the tips everyone's left. Heading to Wal-Mart today for one of the front-close bras, a bed wedge and a few other items people have suggested.

Hi, all.  I am sorry I have missed so many posts.  I have been overwhelmed by the pace of posts...

I wanted to pop on and offer my wishes for everyone's upcoming surgeries.  For all of those with surgeries this week, I wish you strength, fortitude and luck.

Again, there is a cadre of folks that have been very silent.  I am thinking of you as well.  I hope that the setbacks are easing up,  or, if they are not, that you are finding new found strength to deal with them.

I am becoming dismayed at how long I am feeling tender and tired.  I am 2 weeks post op, umx with no recon.  I expected to be more in the groove by now.  I can't even tolerate a bra for more than a couple of hours.  Nor can I drive because I cannot really turn to look while backing up.  I am still improving and not too down and out...  Just want the pace to pick up...

I hope you are all doing as well as possible...:)

CLC - hang in there.  I saw a big jump in my improvement from week 2 to 3, then again from week 3 to 4.  I am now almost 5 wks post op - can lay on my side ~ 20 to 30 minutes (sore at first, then it passes).  Still quite tender to touch but tolerating the bra better.  Definitely could not lay on my stomach yet, though!   Driving fine now, seatbelt still slightly irritating but a lttle pillow makes it all the better.  Strength in arms continues to improve steadily.  It seems like it takes forever to get better, I know - I was quite weak and tired still at 2 wks post-op.  You will get there!

CLC- Just hang in there. 2 weeks is not that long for the kind of trauma your body has just gone through. The bra bothered me for a really long time. I read on one of these threads to try putting a cami on under it so give a barrier to the skin. Of course this was after I needed such info.I was laying tissues in between the bra and the sensitive areas.  You are at the point where your mind is ready to move on but your body is still healing. I could not drive for over 3 weeks. I was really impatient at the time but looking back I can see that I was not being realistic with my expectations. The tiredness hung around for quite some time. Soon enough you will be running around taking care of everyone else again. Let them take care of you.

Clc-- I am just short of 3 weeks post op and I know what you mean, but as the other said between week2-3 you will start to get more and more strength. I have been trying to sleep in the bed the last 4 nights, but last night I had to move back to the recliner I have learned to listen to my body and try not to get too depressed when I have small ser backs

    Have a good Sunday everyone.

iluv2knit - I was like that for the first two weeks, then just the other day I turned a corner and I can sleep all the way through the night and haven't had to nap these last couple of days.  I have no idea if it will last.

AnnAlive - I'm having a totally different problem with my TE.  Everything looked good until about day 12 then redness started creeping in on the right side.  I am not having fever but most of the right foob is red and doesn't seem to be going away. I'm on antibiotics and PS said willing to go as is for a little while but if it gets worse or doesn't start getting better, right side will have to come out and the start over after redness or infection is resolved.  Makes me want to cry just thinking about starting over but it's still better than having cancer in there.

Eema - sorry to hear about the biopsies. I hope everthing comes back clear. I thing once we are diagnosed with BC it makes us feel vulnerable everywhere.

Dukes_up - I enjoyed a glass of wine the day before my surgery with my husband.  Good luck tomorrow, I'll be thinking about you.

    Hugs for Texas,  Judy

Good luck to dukes_up, RK85, 9911, rachelvk, eema, ginger48, cookiemomster, Deniseday and any others out there that are having surgery this week. The anticipation is definitely worse than the procedure. It feels great to be in the healing part of this and you too will be there very soon.

Dukes_Up and Judy67 - my TE fills must be done before rads start, and they don't want to delay starting rads, so there is a slight urgency to get the fills in now, some each week until around Thanksgiving. I hope to find out this week when rads should start. Judy, Sorry to hear you're having trouble getting your TE to behave nicely. I'm at day 17 and it looks generally OK except for shape being weird and incisions looking ugly. I hope you can get it resolved without starting over.

Margie - I have a little more strength like you between 2-3 weeks. We went out to eat and while I felt a little spacey on meds and had to have DH cut my steak, it was so enjoyable to be out somewhere non-medical. I'm sleeping in bed with the wedge pillow, and sleep through the night. Trouble is I wake up around 7am in a lot of pain, having missed a dose.

One drain is out and I hope this is the week I can lose the other two! Praying we can all make it a week of progress!

MargieC-you posted that your node incision was tight making it difficult to raise your arm over your head....has that improved? What are you doing about it, if anything? I've had my post op appt and this wasn't a problem then and I don't go back for a week from tomorrow. I was given exercises to do three times per day but the tightness seems to be getting worse...any suggestions? Thanks!

Is Bed Bath and Beyond the best place for the wedge? Target, Kohl's and Wal-Mart didn't seem to have anything like it. Has anyone had any success with just a pile of pillows?
