The SOB is about the same.  I'm gonna hang in as long as I can without having the pleural effusion drained.  Just finished the second cycle of Halaven and hoping the mets settle down so I can be more comfortable.  There is fluid in other places besides the lungs from the peritoneum mets.  I've found that if I eat a good size meal, I'm in trouble with increased SOB.  Pigeon portions for now.  Thanks for the kind words about my sister.  It's not good.  She has extensive small cell lung cancer.  She does not want to know the details but is going to take any treatment available.

Judy:  When I read on this thread that so many are doing well and stable with lung mets, it brings me hope.  I was stable for months on Abraxane and am  trying to be patient waiting for the Halaven to get me stable again.

Hoping you are all having a good week.  Jean

I find myself checking in on the board more often as "scanxiety" is setting in a bit.  Scans on Monday, results Tuesday late afternoon or more likely early evening.  CT with contrast of chest abdomen & pelvis and a full body bone scan.   Somehow hearing how others are doing - good and bad as well as just hearing news from the BC world calms and helps me to just accept and live.   The fact I went through 1/2 a package of Mallowmars each time I logged on the last few days doesn't hurt either.

Glenna, swimming sounds like very good exercise.  I suggested a swimming buddy to Carolben, but I guess even a swimming buddy can't help you with Jaws!

Jean, pigeon portions for SOB is a good idea and makes a lot of sense.  Sorry that your sister is going through very difficult times.  I have 2 brothers who died of lung cancer.  They also had the small cell, inoperable type.  But that was years ago, 1991 and 2005.

Chanah, good luck with your scans.  I will think of you on Monday!

    Hugs to everyone,

    Brenda

Gotta find ways to stay busy Tuesday until the call at night. Share some riddles brain teasers or jokes on Tuesday.

Chanah, Good luck with your scans and results next week.  I'm usually pretty calm for scans, but the time between them and those results phone calls seems to take f o r e v e r and is the hardest for me.  Do you like watching the Olympics?  It sounds like coverage is going on during the day on NBC affiliates, so that might be a good distraction.  How about a TV series marathon?  You can find almost every show that's ever been on TV on the internet, usually for free.   Hang in there, and know that your team here will be pulling for you!  (((HUGS)))

Chanah, it seems like forever til Tuesday.  That is a long, long time to wait.  I like the tv series idea.  I got Into a couple this winter and just couldn't stop watching til I was through.  Staying busy is a good plan.  We'll be waiting with you for good results!!

We're all here sending you good vibes, Chanah!! Yes- a marathon TV series might be in order. I did that with Netflix's "Orange is the New Black", and also with PBS's "Downton Abbey" (night and day difference as far as genres), and I watched one after the other for about 2 weeks solid each. Now - unfortunately - I'm all caught up and have to wait week to week for the new episode, and then wait 9 months for the new series to air. I don't have time for that!!! But watching a series like that is sure distracting! I'm with you on Jaws, Glenna. Obviously, by my avatar, I'm all about the salty waves, but I have a good healthy respect for the ocean and for sharks. Even more so (for the ocean) after reading your post Carolben!

Hugs, Padiddle. You and your family are in my thoughts!

Chanah:  I was sad to read about your brothers and the small cell lung cancer.  My sister is not in very good shape although young 55.  Her plan is still preliminary but they are moving fast.

Hoping your scans go well and are stable.  My husband and I just finished watching an old mini series "Rich Man, Poor Man."  I'll have to check out Orange is the New Black as we are always looking for something to watch at night.  We are trying to make it through Upstairs/Downstairs which is similar to Downton Abbey but older.  The distraction is most welcome!

Take care all.....weekend is upon us.

Padiddle - My sister had to have her lung collapsed too because of a carcinoid and she said it was extremely painful. The dr told her it had probably been there for 20 years. She never smoked and he said it was probably due to some bird virus that is prevalent in our part of the country. He said many people probably have it and don't know it. He wasn't alarmed because it was so small and hadn't grown but they had to remove it because she was dx with ILC and they were doing a MX. Diane

Lol Glenna, the guys who made Jaws have a lot to answer for! As a kid I'd swim in the sea with no thought of sharks, now I often have an eye out, sometimes I feel uncomfy & will get out of the water. We have a resident great white that is called The Robberg Express (Robberg being 1 of our beaches) & a big seal colony too!

Am thinking of trying to find a morning job, I think it'd be good for me, & I'm not feeling real bad.

Laura, hope the Ixempra settles into a doable chemo for you.  Love your lovingkindness meditation!

Hoping for a calm, symptom & se free weekend for all

I hit some kind of a time warp there!

Chana, holding thumbs for good scan results!

Jean, so sorry about your sister, that must be so hard - hugs

I loved Downton Abbey, also Chicago Fire. Must admit to also watching 2 & 1/2 Men, The Big Bang Theory, & anything that makes me laugh! Find that I cry at the drop if a hat these days with movies.

Carolben, I cry at movies at the drop of a hat now too - even TV shows and sometimes just upon seeing or hearing something that tugs at me - good or bad.

I am keeping busy with family visits and working to set up a program in my synagogue whereby we will cook meals for the local shelter the first Sunday of every month.  But, Netflix is going to be my best buddy every down moment to stave off this scanxiety.  Thank you all for the viewing suggestions and series reviews!

Results in:  All is stable and some spots in lung appear gone.

Wow.  Will stay on Herceptin and Letrozol and can go 6-8 months before next scan.

Yay Chana, great, great news - does that mean you are two timing the stable boy with a bit of reggie on the side?  Way to go, girl, so happy for you!

Congrats, Chanah! so happy for you.

I have my third treatment of Ixempra this Friday. It is kind of evil. Bone pain - yuck! This is first cycle (3 weeks on/one off) so I don't know if it's working yet. SOB seems stable, so that's a good sign.

Getting all of my info together to go to Sloan-Kettering for a consult and to look at their trials. Although I go to a NCI cancer center here in Buffalo, none of the trials they have open are right for me at this time. Hoping my insurance agrees to pay in-network for SK.

Hope you're all having a good day! It was below zero here this morning, but the sun is shining and the sky is blue!

WooHooooooo! That's great news! Hope you made a snow angel while you were looking at the stars.  Doing a happy dance for you and will try to take it outside later, if the snow and ice will allow!  Keep those good results coming!  (((hugs))))

That's wonderful news Chanah!  Happy dance!  Too soon for me to know how the Halaven is doing.  SOB is the same, but I'm glad it isn't worsening.  Hope all is well with everyone!  Jean

Enjoy your good news, Chanah! (I don't know about up there, but if you tried to make a snow angel on my lawn this morning, you'd sink down about a foot.)

A small part of me feels guilty.

And another part cries every time I get good news - relief, past regrets I don't know, but I do - every time there is the slightest good news since the day of diagnosis.

But on to the happy dance.  My daughter, who is getting married on May 17th just landed for a visit.

oh Chana, thanks for sharing that part of you feels guilty - me too!! What's that about??!  It's kinda like survivors guilt, I think.

Went to the saddest funeral yesterday -- another angel, she was dx about 6 months after me, & it just went berserk, was even in the lining of her bowels, it went everywhere in about 1 year. Her husband is broken, every time I looked at him I started to cry again. All this sadness was overwhelming, sad for Robin, her family, sad for all the amazing women this disease has taken, sad for me, just so so sad. I came home after the funeral & climbed into bed, pulled the duvet up & slept all afternoon. By the evening I was ready to talk to a friend, make supper, cry a bit more. And we go on, sometimes it just doesn't make sense.

Today the sun is shining & I'm going for a dip in the sea, because I can!!

Chanah, my daughter is also getting married May 17th!!  What a thrill for me.  She is 32 and I wasn't sure she would ever find the love of her life.  She has!  One son needing to still find someone to love and spend his life with.  Congratulations to your daughter!!

Glenna, how wonderful.  My daughter is 25, the young man is 30.  He is perfect for her - we love him.  My three oldest are married to wonderful spouses and they each withhave two little ones and one has a third on the way.  The six  little ones are ages 7, 4, 3, 3, 2 & 1  (and one expected July 31).  That will leave my "baby" the only unmarried one.  He is 20, a junior at Harvard, with a wonderful girlfriend, who, if they stay together, would be a wonderful wife.

oh my goodness, Chanah, how do you keep track of all the little ones!  How blessed you are to have such a growing family!!  Holidays must be fun with so many little ones around.  I only have 4 grandchildren (ages 9, 6, 6 and 2) though there may be more in the future. My daughter will have two step children so that adds two to the grandchildren list.  Life is good!

I am so blessed they all live locally.  Tomorrow will bring us under three month's to our daughters' weddings!  I spent today with her setting hair and nail appointments, recording shower gifts from yesterday's shower, etc.  It is fun having her here for the week.
