I was not on Aromasin.  However, I was just diagnosed with neuropathy in my left arm and wrist - from Arimidex.  I was only on the drug for three weeks.  I am still waiting and hoping for my hand to heal - not much improvement since diagnosis in November.  I am now giving Tamoxifen a run.

BayouBabe, how was it diagnosed?  Nerve conduction studies?

No nerve study.  My MO does a lot of work with AI issues & side effects.  She said it is de Quervain's of the wrist with neuropathy.  She said it will take much longer to heal than typical wrist/hand issues.  Ugh.

willysuz,  Saying a prayer for you.  I had severe hip pain in one hip.  My MO ordered an x-ray and it showed mild arthritis, thankfully.  I was running around a loop that sloped.  I switched directions and now the hip and ankle pain has mostly disappeared.

After 18 months of AI, now on aromasin, I've developed trigger thumb.  It's really painful.  I wrap the joint to keep my thumb from bending and this helps.  I think it's spreading to other fingers.  So guess I'll be taping all of them.

Had the carpal tunnel before the Exemestane and it didn't aggravate it.  Femara did though, big time in addition to causing a huge Rheumatoid flare.  thankfully it's reduced once off Femara and Exemestane although still around.

Prayers for you willysuz..and for all of us on this drug that have to endure side effects that are beyond terrible. I was soooo hoping to be one of those who sailed through but no such luck. I have been told that aromasin is the mildest of all of the AI's...huh??? LOL

Next stop for me will likely be raloxifene if I can't tolerate the aromasin. I promised I would give the aromasin a year and  my MO said that is the cut off for when my body should adjust on  its own. Then, because tamoxifen is not a good choice with my family history, she will try the alternate which I understand is not as effective (Evista??) so we shall see. Happy New Year ladies.

Corky, I am not on any hormonals. Stopped Aromasin due to the very bad SEs.  Decided not to try another one although the onc disagreed.  I am now almost 78 and I read a Danish study of women over 70. It concluded that we did not get much benefit from the hormonals.  So that decided me.

If you want me to, I'll PM you my side effects. Although, I think it is better you don't know them ahead of time. The only thing the ONC said when he prescribed it was that he would start me on some samples "in case you can't tolerate it. That was kind of a red flag, but I did fine on it the first two months.

What a Happy New Year!  Starting it off with a sanctioned two-week "medication holiday" from this vile little pill.  Woo hoo!

I was wondering if any of you ladies currently taking or have taken Aromasin could tell me how long before any side effects started?  Just took first dose today and I'm very nervous!

Nettie, I think it was about 3 months until I started getting symptoms of carpal tunnel. The SEs for me have not been that bad. Well worth the insurance!

Nettie, I've been taking Aromasim since September. I've had mild depression at times, but nothing I can't deal with.  My knee joints are weak and hurt when I've been sitting for long periods and try to stand up. Still nothing I can't deal with.  Aromasim has worked much better for me than the Arimidex did. Arimidex had me debilitated. Everyone responds differently.

Nettie the gals are right, don't put it in u'r head, sometimes it's not so bad, it just depends and if u do get any SE's u'll know but it may be kind to you.

Corky  WOOT WOOT I hope it's enuff time let us know./

Corky, I am jealous! lol...Meeting with my MO on 1/21 and will ask about a vacation too. Enjoy it! I have heard that after going off, going back on can be a little easier on the joint pain. I am hoping that for you!

That's a problem with reading these boards in the beginning, they can scare people unnecessarily. Treatment is different for everyone, it runs the full spectrum. I hope newbies keep that in mind when they read the posts!

Linda I think of that too--we're going  on about misery and they are just starting-but like u said it is different for all who start this road, but even when I started I didn't expect a Cancer site to be all wonderful posts, but I didn't start til a few of yrs of this stuff. So I knew more about how we feel--so don't let us scare anyone away this is a wonderful place to be when u have to be somewhere for questions and just blowing off steam.

I actually avoided forums until I was done with surgery, chemo and rads. My chemo nurse suggested it, she felt it scarred people unnecessarily. So I stick the "article"/information sections of the cancer websites, and I'm glad I did. I also attended a local women's cancer support group. I had my chemos in a small cozy infusion room locally, the MO's come over weekly from the city, it was great, kind of like sitting around the living room with other infusion patients, it was like a weekly support group, the nurses were in the room with us and always joined the conversation, sharing their knowledge. I hated it when I'd have to go to the big center for treatments, it just wasn't even close to the same. The cozy chemo room was invaluable!!!

    Oops, meant scared not scarred!😜

Is it just me or any one tend to forget to take theirs every single day?  I'm horrible at taking night time meds and I know that's the best time to take it.  Guess I'll just have to adjust to taking it in the mornings, to be sure I do take it.

Galsal - No one told me there was a better time of day to take the Aromasin - what info do you have on night being the better time to  take it?  I take mine in the morning, but if there are compelling reasons, I may change that!

Question from the last page (once I flip the page can't remember whose post I'm responding to Nerdy Anyway - since the aromasin/exemestane stops our body from  producing estrogen, my theory is that anything that aging does naturally to our body as our estrogen levels continue to drop thoughout live, is done at mega speed by these lovely little white pills.  So our skin ages naturally, but I think that it ages faster on AI, also degeneration, everything that it causes, would or could happen as we age, but with the pill it does it today instead of tomorrow.  That's what at 58 I feel 90!

Linda, all I can say is that you definitely do not look 90. You do not even look 58. Not even close!
