Hugz, you're keeping us going here! I've been too busy to post lately, and I'm thinking that's what's keeping lots of us out of here. Yesterday was a travel day for me, so lots of airport walking, plus some city walking on arrival, so I got my 4 miles in no problem.  I'm missing a gym day today so that's frustrating, and I'll be in meetings all day, so steps will have to be squeezed in somehow. Be home in a few days and then back to a normal exercise routine.

How are the rest of you doing in the exercise department?

I did some cardio last night because my arm hurt and I thought it might help. I did 10 minutes on the elliptical, 10 minutes of hill intervals on the treadmill, and 8 minutes of speed intervals on the incumbent bike. Felt much better when I left.

Good to join in with my sisters fighting the battle! In the past week - chest infection 4.5 months post reconstruction. My chest was hard as a rock and oozing through the excision. Related to lymphedema? no one quite knows. I've been very good with my sleeve and with my self-massage. I have not been perfect but I am doing the right things more days than night. My weight is up right now which tends to kick things off a bit but it doesn't seem to have this time...yet. I am on a break from exercise while my chest closes back up again and until I finish my anti-biotics. I don't want to make this thing worse. Any injury that forms a scab on the radiated side requires patience.

Sorry for being AWOL again. Will explain later.

I have been doing my weights, and went on a shortish bike ride Saturday. Gotta get some more yoga in though.

My LiveStrong trainer graduated and there is no one available to train with me right now.  So I've gone back to Gold's Gym and one of the trainers/friends there is training me.  She's doing it 1/2 of what it normally costs.  It's tough breaking in a new trainer, though.  They just don't get us and our issues very well.

She killed me tonight on legs/but/thighs and core.  We didn't do any arms because I'm working at a camp this week and the heat is giving me issues ... so don't need the extra stress of arm weights this week.

I'm going to be sore tomorrow but it's the best kind of sore.  Smile

Dawne-Hope, kudos to you for finding a way to continue your training, and what a lovely trainer friend you have to make it affordable!  Has she seen the guidelines for training someone with LE? http://stepup-speakout.org/Trainer%20doc%20for%20SUSO-040113.pdf

I was a total washout on exercise yesterday, because of meetings all day and evening, and I just didn't get my act together in the early morning to work it in.  Today, more of same, but I fly home and therefore have lots of airport walking coming up.

Have a great exercise day, everyone!

well I went to the gym last night, could not believe how bad I was and blaming it on the dang cold and 2 weeks not really doing much cept the pool!  So figure 50 min at the gym was better than nothing, lots was stretching and then cardio.  They have a new model of eliptical that I like, easy on and off but mano, if I do 5 minutes on it, I feel like I really accomplished something.  Pushing back on plan, least I am not doing my hacking cough anymore

Good job everyong. Thanks for the inspiration! I have a PS appointment this morning as a hole has opened up on my chest incision. Not good. I believe lymph buildup may have blown out my stitches...although I'm doing everything I'm supposed to do most days. My arm was pretty swollen yesterday because I haven't been able to exercise. I really need to watch my diet now since I can't exericise at the moment. Great job proud and Dawne!

Mariasnow, bummer, Are you able to wear a shaper to help with the fluid or an under armour tight men's tee? Watch the salt, drink tons of water, elevate arm when resting on pillows. So sorry chest opened.

I see on your other threads you are quite an exerciser. We would love to have some tips on what you do to control swells while exercising. I am hoping you are wearing a glove or gauntlet to avoid pushing the fluid to the hand.

Maybe you need to wrap that arm too instead of a sleeve/glove. We have some excellent MLD therapists in Vancouver and can PM if you need names. I am thinking of 3 in a 50 miles radius. Keep us posted on your treatment.

Extra gentle hugs from us girls.

No walks but I did so many stairs taking pup to do pee that I am exhausted. I am thinking 20 flights at least and then bending over to pat pup and train her. Also lots of squats bending down to pick her up. This pup is like raising a busy toddler. So I am counting this as exercise.

Hugz, that exercise is the very, very best kind!  I did boring airport walking, er I mean running yesterday because of a crazy circumstance in the air that make my first flight really late and I ran for a connection. Farthest possible points between two gates at a very large airport, so I got my cardio in, that's for sure.  I'd rather be exercising with a puppy!!!!

Proud. Yah right on! This afternoon I am doning rain gear and pounding the pavement as I am puppyless at work. Out the door in 10 minutes! Did lebed openin on my break.

Carol, Puppy exercising is great until your puppy is pooped and puts on her breaks. Then it turns into arm exercise, carrying her!

Rats......... all that rain made my already thin hair from cancer therapy/adrenal issues look even  limper. I look like my wet puppy. I hope I don't smell like oneSurprised. Anyway... I got 45 minutes walking in wearing my bright pink raincoat in the dark cloudy sky.Wink Did a few fist pumps and bellybreaths on the way. Done for the day.Tongue Out

Hugz, Thanks for the thoughts. I always exercise with sleeve and gauntlet. I ride my spin bike and wear a not too tight sports bra. I also do a full regimen of upper body exercises with light dumbbells. This seems to keep the lymphedema in my arm, chest, and back in check with I can do it. I live in southeast Florida and have a good therapist. Unfortunately, she is not covered by insurance, nor is anyone other than to go to learn the self-massage. So it is pretty costly to go, but I'm doing my best to allocate some funds for at least one appt a month.

The hole in my chest has been stitched up. My PS removed some of the weakest radiated skin, put me on anti-biotics and sent me off with well-wishes. I seem to be doing OK the past couple of days. He said no exercise until July 4th.

Mariasnow. I thought you lived on the west coast. Dang you got the hot weather to boot alone with that nasty hole. Try some deep belly breaths to move your lymph. Wink Keep us posted. Your excercise routines keep us motivated!

Bah, humbug! I injured something in my hip when lifting weights with my trainer yesterday. New move and it did not feel quite right and a minute later, I knew I was in trouble. My trainer is excellent and cautious, but I suspect I had some weakness and that new lift just found the weak spot. Sigh...it is quite painful with certain movements and I will seek help on Monday if no improvement. Arghhh! I think this will set me back a while on my exercise program.

Hi All,  I have been away from here for awhile as life has been in the way.  I have kept up with my LE exercises, MLD, cardio, and weights.  Plus working on keeping the LE support group we started alive.  My brother is visiting me and on Sunday we went to a nearby state park--Panther Creek--that has a lot of walking trails.  We chose a moderately difficult trail of only 2.4 miles.  It was doable but with a lot of tree roots in the path.  A lot of uphill and downhill.  All good as 2.4 miles is not long but we got lost!  We ended up doing 5.5 miles as we ended up on another trail!   I am still sore.  Yesterday got in 45 min on elliptical in 15 minute spurts.  I need to go back and catch up on everyone else.  Keep moving!

Hugz, the pain in the butt is much improved, a dull ache instead of a sharp pain now.  I'm very cautious about moving or hefting any weight, lest I re-injure before it's really healed. No gym yesterday, and normally I should be in there this Thursday, but we shall see! Good for you to do such a long walk session, as I recall you're coming back from injury, too.

Becky, I know YOU can do 5.5 miles of rugged terrain. Was your brother able to keep up with you?

Carol - Grrrr on the hip/butt injury.  Yell  You know this ... but keep working those arms even though your limited right now with what you can do on lower body.  I know you know this ... Wink  Hope you heal up super quickly.  Taking some kind of anti-inflammatory can help you heal.  Hope you're back to your normal routine in a couple of weeks.

Becky - Good to see you checking in here!  You are our cardio beast!  Kiss

Ha, ha Carol.  My brother and nephew had to stop occasionally to wait for ME!  They hike all of the time.  So hot and humid here today that I again did 45 min on elliptical.  I am trying out an interval technique of 10 seconds as fast as I can go, 20 seconds cool down.  Read about it somewhere.

Take it easy Carol and let yourself heal.

    Thanks Dawne!

I have been lurking here for a while, tried reading from the beginning, but there are over 100 pages to try to catch up on, so I flipped to the end (I don't usually do that with books - would rather be surprised by the ending) but wanted to see who was still hanging out here and wondering if I could join in.

I developed LE about 6 or so weeks ago, first day I had actually felt GOOD in so long, the weather was great, I did a couple hours of gardening, and experienced my first bout with LE a couple days later. LE therapists left me with little hope of improving, little guidance as to activities. I LOVE to be active, crave to be active - mostly hiking, backpacking, yoga. Had planned to get into kayaking with DH, used to bike a lot and was hoping this would be the year to get back to it after BC. I have not really had a break in the BC journey since summer 2010, every time I feel better, some other complication or recurrence comes along and sets me back, and I have just about lost hope of ever enjoying those activities again, but you have all really inspired me.

Got a new battery for my pedometer. Watched a yoga for lymphedema on You Tube. Attended a yoga class today, being extremely mindful with poses, but not sure if some of them were forbidden, not sure how to adapt to some of them. Checked out the Lebed web site, but no classes offered in my area. Well, I have gone through the several stages needed to make life changes: first, the desire, now starting first steps toward committment.

By the way, many many thanks to the LE group for info on the other threads.

    Peace and Namaste.
