Lying on the machine??????? how much skin was missing????  Shocked yiiikes.  Oh that poor guy! Hope this doesn't sound horrible, but it doesn't make me feel such a chump hearing that others take a horizontal dive as well. Man these things are unforgiving.

I forgot to mention that I somehow injured my knee doing a one-legged chair sit without weight in the gym Friday. So I am walking but not anything long or speedy, just wearing knee compression and elevating the leg when I can. Frustrating! It's swollen and making me crazy!

Sorry Carol oh that must be very frustrating for a lady like you! Now, Im trying to picture in my mind a "one legged chair sit without weight"  :-/ .... I see I could get this very wrong lol. Care to extrapolate? Better still a picture perhaps?

Went to the doc today as when I did that horizontal nosedive in the garden and hit my shin on a brick, well yesterday I noticed  a lump there that wasnt before. So, thought, its probably a hematoma (sp). Doc thinks so and now Im to have a bit of physio on it o dispel it.

Ha ha o-lymph-ics no doubt about it  gotta love that. Now all I have to do is weight for some inspiration... lol

musical, the one legged chair sit works one leg at a time. You sit on a firm chair and then stand up using only one leg to push off. I had no trouble doing it ( well actually it 's kind of hard, so I was working) but I must have had my knee at a subtly bad angle. It didn't show any distress until an hour or so later so with no pain at the time, I'm not sure exactly what happened.

Sorry about your continued dread mill story. That's frustrating too!

Awwww Carol I just tried doing that and NOT a CHANCE!!! Shocked You must be one strong lady to pull that off. Hang on a minute, Im going to try again at the kitchen table chair... since I did try it on the "5 wheel drive". (Occiff chair) ...... Im back. OK so the trick is the higher the chair the better (unsurprisingly). Some more questions...

1/ How many of these do you do?

2/ Do you make sure the foot you're NOT using to stand up with is OFF the ground, and thus cannot help even slightly?

Outcome: I managed to wobble to some type of success, but hey, thats better than none.

OK assuming gardening counts in this thread as helping to kick butt, I might include the outcome of my Doc visit when I did that horizontal act. He said Ive got a hematoma and Ive now got to go to physio to break up the blood which apparently is a fertile source for bugs to grow. Yeah cellulitis. I thought these things just sorta went away on their own. PT said it was my GP erring o the side of caution knowing my medical history. My GP is great and watches over me. Just wondering if any of you active ladies have had hematomas and then had physio?

No hematoma/physio here, so I hope you'll hear more on that from others.  It does make sense that blood pooling would be fertile ground for cellulitis, though.

On the crazy chair exercise, yup, you raise one foot slightly to keep it from helping.  I did twelve of these on each side, with one side stronger than the other--it was easier on the leg that now is injured, so apparently it was not as easy as it felt at the time.  And also, my trainer was standing there with me and I was lightly holding his hands, to make sure he could spot me if I lost my balance.  Well, the theory was that this would prevent injury.  I think I just twisted in some small way that stretched something where it ought not to be stretched.  I'm giving it about another week to start healing on its own and if no progress, I'll see my doctor.  I do have some wonderful rehab exercises a friend sent me, and I'm doing that but very lightly, hoping to do more good than any potential harm.  Funny but I've no pain while walking so have done a fair bit of that while in my customary airports.  (I'm in Florida now and finally got a weather upgrade, so this afternoon was walking blissfully outside for a while!)

Ha ha I thought so. Even that slight bit of help from the other makes a HUGE difference, like being easy. Since none of this stuff is easy for me, I knew I had to be doing something wrong. (lol)

Hope your leg comes right real soon and noooo you don't want to harm it anymore.

BTW, yeah I admit Im still giving that Dreadmill sideways glances but Im improving...

Greetings butt kickers.  For some reason I've been posting my exercise on another thread but I thought I'd stop in.  Musical, I'm really sorry about your fall from the 'dreadmill'.  When I got mine last fall I thought oh phooey, who needs the safety catch hooked on?  Then I thought of all the falls on America's Funniest Videos and figured, yep, I will use it.  I hope your LE has suffered no lasting affects and the other injuries have healed.

Thanks Marple for your kind words. Yes Im sooo grateful I didnt hurt my arms in either fall. I could'nt believe how fast that TM spat me out. It was sooo quick. Was thinking of putting a sign right in front of my start button.... "THINK GIRL THINK" but since familiarity breeds contempt, that would only work for so long before I go on auto pilot and just put it aside without thinking. Cant win. (YET)

I do really like the TM but our "relationship" still needs improving lol. Hubby loves the incline and we all know what hubbys are like when they dont want to do something, but surprisingly mine has taken quite a shine to TM.

Hey I hope all you ladies are all Ok and keeping warm in these HORRIBLE freezing temperatures and massive snow storms a lot of you are getting. Gosh I see theres ANOTHER one getting ready to hit. You don't get much on the lamestream media so I just go to youtube and its great.

Carol57, just last night I was thinking what a great exercise it is you're doing (the crazy chair thing) and today I went to my other therapist (for arm movement) and she suggested the exact same thing :-) the only difference is she suggested I do it with a huge exercise ball-not a chair- and incorporated other balance exercises too. I tried it right then and there and sure it wasn't as easy as it may sound. I can see how the wrong angle can mess up with the knee... hope you feel better :-) I  also hope I don't end up rolling off that ball!

And yes, once I translate the articles I'll contact speakout-stepup, what a great idea!

Musical, I'm glad to hear you didn't hurt your arms :-)  when all is forgiven and forgot maybe you could give it another try? try another sign " GIRL YOU ROCK!"

To me something like that (the fall)  would be a solid reason to give up on the machine all together. I used to have a static bike, which I enthusiastically used once and then promptly converted to a clothes hanger....!

GMA, great news on your mamo :-) how is the lebed dvd? I hope it helps.

Marple, greetings to you too :-) what kind of exercise do you do?

On a side-note, I went to my first session with the LE specialist last week for MLD (it kind of hurt)  and they also put me on a pressure-something machine, and the result was good- I loved that machine! I thought I had found my gal, so to speak, but after reading all the comments/articles about MLD not hurting, I'll research a bit more and see how it goes.

Also got a prescription for a sleeve and the therapist told me in a lower voice it's the colour of the skin (so I didn't worry or be embarrassed I guess) - well, I'm treating myself to a lymphediva gorgeous set, I need more umph in my life...!

    Keep warm :-)

Lia, of course, NOT great you have LE, but welcome to the SWELL club and ask anything you like. The ladies here know heaps and if one doesn't know something then someone else is bound to. As for DreadMill, even a recalcitrant pig rooting horse can be trained to give more respect, DM  gives NONE, NADA lol. Nevertheless I already have and will sure continue getting back on this "horse". Smile

Thought about getting an exercycle which would be great but its not weight bearing, which for me is important to keep bone density up being on Arimidex. Ive found walking very helpful with the associated SideFX like aching joints and muscles.

People look at me quite strangely when i tell tell them I won't drive with music playing coz Im likely to go off the road. Not kidding!  LOL right now I have more confidence driving with music than trying that with DM.

Yes please be careful about MLD. As (I think it was) Kira said it should never never hurt. You need to be taught it.

yeah, I used to be big on cycling and got into spin (hense the name....) but after the AL was started, I switched my exercise to wait bearing . No idea if I am doing enough, but now do weights and the dreaded treadmill....hope it is helping!

bike is second on me now

Hey ladies, I see you are all particpating in the oLYMPHICs. I loved all your events. The one Carol and I like is  were you wrap all the docs"N" denial in old bandages and stuck them up on the seattle space needle for all to see. Isn't that were they belong anyways! The one collecting the most docs gets the "Gold Standard" metal.....That would be free wrapping lessons as it IS the gold standard for LE care.

I just can't imagine that chair exercise as a regular thing to do especially from off a ball....I tried in mychair and it is impossible to not topple. Carol I hope you are improving.

Tore up the pavement today with a powerwalk.

    YOU GO GIRLS!

For sure Id be in fits of laughter picturing anyone coming off one of those....Happy but at the same time going Sad.  You know how it is.  Lia please be careful, OK!!! Smile

The one collecting the most docs gets the "Gold Standard" metal.....

Let's not forget the Insurance Coverage Run-Around event!

I walked 3 miles coming and going to my work site today, but otherwise no exercise.  I'm babying my poor knee and starting to think I may need to see someone and ask for PT help.  Arrrgh!

Musical, I'm hoping to get an appointment for the week after next, because I have to travel again next week.  I'll finally be home for a few weeks so I'll be able to take care of this.  And 3 miles  was walking at a slow pace, nothing cardio about it.  Oddly, I have no discomfort with the injured knee when I walk. It's bending the knee beyond a certain little distance that tells me there's an injury, plus some swelling still.

I try my best to get 4 miles in each day, somehow or another. So I'm used to walking.  And I sure don't have to put up with peripheral neuropathy in my feet like you do.  I see my mother deal with that so I know that it's a major, major feat to do any walking at all. You're amazing with your commitment to keep moving, Musical.

Lia13 - I saw the LET yesterday and he measured. My measurements were up in the upper arms.. You think I did too much and need to slow down a bit on the lebed??  Beside that, I've been walking slow around the house. Nothing real strenuous.  I'm at a loss.. Why can some of you manage the LE and exercise and I can't even do the Lebed opening without swell.. This sucks...Sad

Edit: I posed that question to my LET and he answers with - "Why do some people get LE and some don't?"  I hate when people answer a question with a question.  But he is correct.  It's really no difference and "It is what it is" .  He did compliment me that I can now talk about LE without Crying about it.. Its been almost 2 years since DX of LE now..

Gma, I know when I started with my last personal trainer who understood us cancer folks, he started me real slow!  maybe you just tried too much the first day?  he started me at 1# weights and checked measurements before we upped it

I felt so dumb with the lite weights but now know he was dang right!

GMA, I'm really sorry to hear your arm measurements were up. It does suck... I cannot really say anything on the lebed (I haven't even received the dvd yet), but it could be that not all exercise works the same for everybody and lebed is by no means THE tool for LE, but, the way I see it, just that, a tool that appears to be working for some. There are other options, and it's very likely your body may need a different kind of exercise or sequence or speed. Maybe someone here with more experience will have more ideas and advice on this?

I think if it makes you feel good enough to continue, it may not have been lebed alone, or your body would alert you (pain, burning sensation, unpleasant feeling, higher temp etc), but as proudtospin says, less might be the trick.

How about housework? Could it be that your arms got tired from both exercise AND housework or something else? Just thinking out-loud here, as this happens to me constantly, so much so that if I, say, mop/fold bedsheets etc or even light crochet, I now know I shouldn't exercise.

Cudos for being more comfortable talking about LE, and it only goes to show that it is possible to eventually feel better about things. Thank you for sharing that. :-)

As for the (now infamous) exercise ball, it's a thing they use for pilates and, yes, it does look scary. I know my movement therapist doesn't know much about LE and, bless her heart, she is trying hard to help me get more confidence in my body. I'll try it, with the help of my husband and I'll have him take a picture if I fall off! :-) :-) :-)

hugz4u, nice to hear you're doing well :-)

carol57, I'm impressed with your walking!

musical, I'll sure be careful. Who 'd have thought using an exercise ball would be like living on the wild side???? :-) I feel like Indiana Jones embarking  on a mission! :-) :-)

proudtospin, how much weight did your trainer start you with? for now my movement therapist has told me to use 1/2 lt water bottles, 3-5 repetitions, a few times throughout the day. Do you use both arms?
