Thank you Minustwo! Great job to you!!! Just got back from strength training.... all legs and abs. Where did my ab strength go???? No body weight planks.... learned the hard way, way too early for that!

Off to run/ walk 30 min.

Gotta say ... just getting active is the goal! Make today GREAT!!!!

hugz4u I love my run/ walk right now. I jog a quarter to a half mile and then walk to recover... I keep that up until I hit my mileage. Do what you love! That is the best for u :) I used to be disappointed when I had to walk... now I just celebrate what my body can do and I need to be patient.

Looking forward to my Monday appt!!!

still exercising but my finger tip wound has blossomed into a mess as I now know the brown spots that you saw on pic I posted above was lymph fluid that now has bursted and is eating at my finger. Finger tip is huge. I put myself on antibiotic and am going to see if MLD therapist can help today. Doc has no clue what to do with me but I am showing her every other day. I suggested wound clinic but I think they will be a bit clueless to so I'm holding off until I see my MLD therapist today. I was right.... life is great but sometimes... it stinks! Ugh. Good one for grrr thread.

hugz - so sorry about your finger. Who would have thought. Maybe you can get a culture done on the fluid to see if a different antibiotic would be more useful?

As for exercise, I've spend the last 3-1/2 days riding my recliner. Occasionally I'd venture out to move branches that blocked the rising & racing water. I am safe & dry and the street in front of me has been draining well between rain bands. No water came in my house and I still have power. I'm VERY fortunate.

hugz4u are you getting any relief yet?? Be vigilant. It is sad how when we don't fit the perfect mold of complication free... drs become frustrated.

My md can't help and wound clinic only can dress it.this is latest pic. Rember how good it looked in older pic. Ugh.

Jackie thanks for thinking of me and my dang finger!

Oh no Hugz - I hope they can do something. One of our major hospitals here has an outpatient Wound Care center. Can you go somewhere like that? Otherwise sounds like they'd better get you on IV antibiotics.

minus thx yes we have wound care in big city nearby. My md doesn't know how to find right one for my rarecondition though. Trouble is ...99 percent no one has seen this before because it's le related. Yup I'm on oral antibiotic. I'll look at finger in morn to see what's happening. No signs of cellulitis yet as soon as it changes I'll check myself in to emergency for IV. I feel pretty good.

Binney is helping me with ideas. She's a true blessing here. Yeah we love Binney!

Are u all set to evacuate?Sounds like your near flood? Pack extra sleeve in waterproof bag, antibiotic. Bandaids. Etc. Take care

Dang have to stay up til 12:30 to take antibiotic then up at six to take again.

Hugz... that is crazy that they aren't able to help you! Are you on prednisone as well as antibiotics? I had a cellulitis once & the prednisone helped right away....

hugz - thank heavens the docs are recommending the wound care clinic. I expect it's a drive, but maybe you can treat yourself and spend the night in the big city.

As for Harvey, I'm one of the fortunate ones. 31" of rain through yesterday in my gauge but I never lost power and water never came into my house. That said, I haven't left my house. I see no reason to get in the way of attempts to rescue people or people working to try to repair the infrastructure - so I've only seen what you all are seeing on TV.

Hi, Ladies,,, sorry for the long absence,, so much to do, so little time! And wow, have you been active in my absence!! So many posts to catch up on. I moved house in May,, been really busy settling in,, but I did get back to my Aqua class in July!! Trying to make it there twice a week,,, I don't get there every time, but I am working on improving my attendance!! It's been SO HOT here that it is difficult to be motivated to wear my truncal compression. I really need to get to the pool more!

Minus: so glad to hear you are OK,,,, been worried about all the people I know in Houston. Unbelievable flooding. You are so smart to stay home.

Hugz: Sorry to see this finger wound. Would a consult with an infectious disease doctor be an idea? Is there fluid that could be cultured? Hoping you get some help STAT. Please keep us posted.

Glennie. I thought you got buried under boxes. Good to hear from you. They haven't taken a culture yet but so far no infection.

So wound dermy doc thinks I have antibiotic allergy to polysporin. I was putting on three times a day for a month. They say up to 20 percent are allergic to it. I'm not sure about diagnosis but I visit doc tues and will push for more answers if there is no improvement. I'm wrapped but top digit is two to three times big. I've signed off gym for a month but will try to do something at home. Maybe lift weight with other arm only and walking. I'll keep active but gentlybut lots of rest to. I'm on abx cortisone cream and abx oral.

    Everyone keep moving!

hugz, your dr may be correct about the alergy. I ended up with a massive alergy and my incisions opened up and became infected. I was traveljng, so I used neo sporin. I ended up with and even worse contact dermatitis ( they sent me to a dermatologist ). After steroids and 4x the usual dosage of antihistimes I was better in 4-6 weeks. I read in the wound care literature that if you are over 50 you have a 700% increased chance of polysporin alergy, and if you have been ex posed to more either by profession or as a patient you are even more susceptible. Good luck and keep us posted

I also think I may have had an allergic reaction to neosporin. I was using it for a very sore fingernail and put a bandaid over it. The next day I had several small blisters around the nail. The dermatologist said it looked like psoriasis and gave me a steroid cream. It is healing after two weeks of use but I was afraid it was becoming cellulitis as that's my LE arm. Still don't know why the nail was/is sore. There's a red mark on the nail, it's still tender and I can't remember any injury that would have caused it.

faith. Pm me a pic of your finger if you wish.It would be interesting to see if those blisters look like what I call lymph pustules. Thenwe might know if it's an allergy.

Finger slowly improving but I'm so careful and watchful. I'll keep all you posted. Thx all for concern.

hugz, a picture wouldn't show much now. It is almost completely healed but it didn't look like your finger and it wasn't swollen. I can't remember, did you see a dermatologist and get a steroid cream or anything to put on it?

Yes I rushed to emerg where three student dr dermys looked at it then called the top dermy of the emerg ward which had a wound area. I'm his patient now and will see him early this week.

Finger swelling is slowly going down. On abx onitment and oral abx. We weren't even sure to wrap but therapist said to try and dermy said to try also. I think it was a good idea. Even better I have practiced wrapping for emergency and so this proved to be a valuable tool.

FUN2 - I was one of the fortunate Houston residents - I did not get water in my house & I didn't lose power. Thanks for asking.

But as you can imagine, everything is discombobulated. The gym finally opened for a couple of hours yesterday & I was told that my Silver Sneaker class would start again today, but when I presented myself I found it won't be until Thursday. Many of the instructors have been flooded. So...I felt guilty enough about very little exercise in 10 days that I hit the treadmill for 30 minutes.

Sending vibes that Irma will veer off - even slightly - so the damage is minimal.

The gym finally reopened Silvers Sneakers class today. We had a 'guest' instructor who worked us until we dropped. Literally we all ended up sitting & panting with leg & arm muscles quivering. Not to mention water aerobics last night in an outdoor pool. We had to work our a$$es off just in order to stay warm. One more outdoor class Saturday morning. The water is warm enough, the sun should be out - we'll hope for no wind.

Saturday is the last water aerobics class for the season. During the 10 days since Harvey hit, we all quit exercising. I've managed to gain 3 lbs - and that's with only eating one meal a day. Obviously I'll have to figure out something to do the 3 days that I don't have Silver Sneakers classes.

I'm planning a flying trip for 8 days on the 16th - with a serious change in altitude. I need to get my heavy duty compression bra ready & be sure I have my current sleeves in my carry on bag.

Minus Two, when you say you make sure to put your sleeves in your carry on, does that mean you do that so you can put them on just before flying or are you using them at destination at high altitudes or both?

I'm still wondering what to do when flying to Italy with a layover of two hours in Zurich. I have mild LE and my therapist said to wear the sleeve when flying but she never recommended a glove and I don't have one. I've read a sleeve w/o a glove or gauntlet can cause bad hand swelling. We have 12 hours of travel time including the layover and I'm not sure I can keep that sleeve on that long. It really starts to itch after a few hours. I'm considering not wearing the sleeve while flying and just use it after we land to reduce any swelling after we land. As well, I am going to keep it moving as much as I can while flying. Probably not going to get much sleep on the overnight flight.
