Back home today. Made sure I walked one hour each day and water exercises for 45 min. Oops I ate too much but Iam back ontrack tomorrow.

My stretching program is really starting to pay off. I use to have to stretch out quads every ten minutes of walking but finally they are starting to stay stretched out better during exercise. It my dang hamstrings that are forever tight. Ugh can't win

35 min of slow walk in high heat. At least I was smart enough to wear a sunshirt even though I have a tan to protect me. One can not take to many chances! I got a bit of a walk so that's good

I went to the therapist and saw I gained 8 lbs! I guess my home scale is off by a bunch! Last week hubby and I went to the beach for a few days and walked every morning and evening. It felt great, so I get home and stood on the scale last night and was 8 lbs lighter. WTH???

2fun. How's it going anyway since surgery. thinking of u.

Homemom. Sounds like we own the same wacky doodle scale at home. I often work my butt off on vaca with swimming and hiking and come back heavier even though I'm not overindulging. Yet sometimes I come back a pound lighter even though I'm not slaving on the trails. Weird.

Last time on vaca I just went ahead and gave up and ate a piece of buttermilk coconut pound cake and I weighed less. (Still can taste it!)That's why I usually only weigh in a few times week otherwise I'll go nutty if I do it every day.

Wore out rower machine today. Well not really, I can only do 6 fast minutes at highest setting before my arms remind me I have Le. It was the elliptical that I wore out instead.

Come on girls. I know it's hot but we have to get healthier each day. Do something early or inside.

We had thunderstorms this afternoon but the rain had stopped by 7pm - so I emailed everyone that we WOULD have water aerobics. One lady emailed back that it would be cold. In Houston? Yes the air temps went down to 80 with the storm, but since we've had no rain in a week the pool water was almost 90 degrees. Class of 13. Four people showed. The rest will get teased unmercifully for being wimps.

Almost a personalized class with only 4 of us. Good work out.

    Hi Everyone!

I am starting to get into the flow since surgery. Best news is all my tissue samples were negative for any cancer! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

No thyroid cancer, and no additional breast cancer!

I did end up with a MASSIVE alergic reaction to something, so I have had what looks like poison ivy all over my body for the last 3 weeks. Its starting to clear, but I couldn't exercise or even walk. I couldn't even wear clothes that didn't make me itch to high heaven. When I get warm (hot flashes anyone?) I would break out in big hives.I just sat with a fan and ice packs on me!LOL

That is all behind me I hope. I have been walking .8 miles a day, and I feel like an old lady, but I will keep at it. I will need to get back to work and seeing patients in 4 weeks, so I had better get a move on. I am still on a 5-10 pound lift/push/pull restriction.

You guys are exercise warriors! I have to say I am considering becoming certified as an LE PT. I am not sure what kind of demand there is, and I dont know if I really should be thinking about this until I get a few more months under my belt!

2FUN - great news on the negative tissue results. Congrats. Walking is a good way to start. Just remember - 'just because you can doesn't mean you should'. Can't remember when you had your surgery but I'm assuming you still have lot of interior healing going on.

yes, I know, I'm not even 4 weeks post. So I'll stick with walking. I still have help at home for one week, and after that DS goes to college and I'll have to wait for DH to come home for the lefting, pushing and pulling.

Just curious how many lymph nodes you girls had removed? I had 3 (thought they took 2 one was hiding ) so I was wondering how common LE is with such a small number removed.

apparently I had one sentinel node removed. I also had multiple pelvis nodes removed when I had surgery for endometrial cancer. I don't have upper or lower extremity LE, but I hopped on here to become aware of what the initial symptoms are, and the nice folks here were so encouraging I stayed!LOL.

If it helps to know, many people get LE without an overt trauma or node excision. With node removal we are at higher risk.

2Fun- I didn't even know I had LE! I had an issue with cording. I had popped a few of the cords myself and had one bad one I couldn't get to pop so my RO ordered PT. I went to PT got the cord popped and was setup with PT 1×a week for 4 weeks. I assumed it was just to keep me "cord free". Next thing I know I'm getting a call to be fitted for a sleeve, glove and a night sleeve! The PT never told me I had LE or that I would be getting a call to be fitted! I have been going to PT since April 23! I am set up got 4 more weeks. So is this normal for 3 nodes???!?!

So much is not known about LE, I don't think there is a normal for any number of nodes!

I am a PT, and long ago, would see a few LE clients, but very little was known about best practices. Since I have had 3 cancer surgeries in 8 months, I took some of that time studying advanced PT cousework, focusing on LE. It is very different than what I learned in school. I'm so glad you found someone, even if by accident, that is helping you. Keep us posted of your progress!

minus lol on the cold pool story! Good for you going. I've limited my exercise to three times a week because half of our province is on fire and the smoke is not good. So it's indoor exercise at gym for me

2fun. Ohhh I can't imagine the hives when one mozzie bite drives me up the wall for three weeks. Glad your on the mend. Yup I think you should be a LE therapist because it's user friendly for the practitioner and your body probably needs a change up after all your surgeries plus it will make you so aware and you will know how to wrap, treat etc.if the le beast visits you. Plus we need more people to get the LE word out. Nice that your trying to walk. Kudos on .8 mile. Watch your lifting. After almost two yrs I'm up to 8 lbs three times a week with biceps.tricep and other upper body. I only do fifteen of each but the correct form and timing etc. Slow progress buts it's just right for my unique situation.

Varadoll with le it's so important to be educated so it's great your here asking questions. There is way more to it than popping on a sleeve with hand garment. Your pt should teach you how to look after yourself as in self massage, watching your skin for le changes, wound education, insect bite care etc Teaching you how to wrap for a emergency flare if you ever have one. My le is mild but I asked to learn how to wrap and when I overgarden if I feel i could benefit because my arm feels extra tired or maybe a bit more swell then I wrap. It also keeps my wrapping skill up because it's a steep learning curve and if I had to learn this during a flare up it would bring a lot of frustration and tears. Hey... knowledge is POWER!

Off to gym to kick Le into a manageable corner! Gradual exercise program usually makes our le happier. Me too

2Fun- I'm a COTA! I was embarrassed to admit I knew so little abut LE. Early intervention and pediatrics have alway been my area of expertise. When I went back to college we had 2 young girls and I said " NO PEDIATRICS!" Then I realized that's where I felt the most comfortable and it all just came naturally. I have Google'd myself crazy reading up on LE. I will definitely be doing a few on my CEU'S on a LE class!

Thank you girls for all the support! You make this rough patch in the road a little easier!

Vargadoll, I said I WOULD NEVER work in the schools, and guess what, after 32 years I am working in the schools!LOL I'm a bit concerned I will have a hard time lifting kids and facilitating gait. Some of my kids are mid to late teens, and are really more like adults. Here's hoping PS lets me lift more than 10 lbs when I see him next week!

2 fun. Wanting to congratulate you on good news of tests. Today is your day to walk or move again. Come on girl!

Vara. Yes knowledge is a powerful tool for lymphedema. We are our best advocates.

Going to gym tonight. After cardio their doing a 15 min session of relaxation and so I'm doing some of my weights at home so I can r e l a x at the gym. It's almost an oxymoron! The lights will be low with soft spa like music and a girl talking in a soft calming voice. Love it!

Sometimes they have a 15 min dance session. My gym is always mixing it up so it's not boring. Plus my gym is for older people with health issues. It's so encouraging seeing an ill person start and 6 months down the road their giving the treadmill a good workout killing it. Even running! Some have even lost over 80 pounds, off meds and improving after strokes and heart attacks.Every time someone has a win to share it's written on a bubble and posted on the wall for encouragement.

2fun. Lol we all need a push. Myself I'd rather not exercise so pls do give me a kick to! Once I'm out the door it becomes easier. For winter weather challenge on getting out there I've found that raingear in the winter makes walking more pleasant. Also I have an app that gives me rain prediction minute by minute up to two hours. Between checking out the clouds and the raincast it forces me out the door before it pours. I tell myself, it's cloudy and if I don't get get out NOW I'll have to pull out raingear. That usually is motivating. Now in the summer it's, ifI feel i don't get out early enough I could overheat! That's motivating to!

Hi everyone, Looking for some suggestions if you don't mind. My hand started aching today, and during the day the ache has spread up my arm to the shoulder. It feels like it does when it gets swollen, heavy and achy, but it is not swollen at all. I've checked it over very well, no scratches, bites or broken skin. I'm not dehydrated, no pitting, it looks good actually. The only other thing different about today is that I got hit by a wave of fatigue that had me laying on the kitchen floor, didn't have the energy to make it to a chair.

It's 4am and I can't sleep because of the arm. I'm normally very good at knowing what's going on and how to fix it, but this has me stumped. I wear a sleeve during the day and a night sleeve. I've done the lymph massage and have it elevated, don't know what else to try.

I am kind of excited, my professional journal came yesterday and one big section is entitled

Diagnosis of Upper Quadrant Lymphedema Secondary to Cancer: Clinical Practice Guideline From the Oncology Section of the American Physical Therapy Association

I am looking forward to reading it!

2fun, Hum... well come to think of it......yes your right! The maragaritas were good for me.....as they were made with fresh lime juice which has a lot of vitamin c. At least that's how my mom who is nearing a century old would reason.

Now I will have to walk it off today.

2fun. Lol I think you burn carrots and lettuce differently than alcohol AND bread!

Truthfully my homemade margarita is one of my sins. The other is coffee which I gave up in April but had about 10 cups this month.

Now that I've posted my confession. I now realize that I'm getting slowly hooked back on the coffee. Ok that's it. No more coffee but yes to margarita! Got to have one vice in life!

Just want to thank everyone here for inspiring me to lace up my tennis shoes every day. Between LE & anastrozole, I know how much I need to do this but I'd much rather be by the pool with one of Hugz's margaritas in my hand! Today I started with 45 minutes of stretches & strength exercises at home & then hit the gym for 45 minutes of weightlifting & 30 minutes on the elliptical. Tomorrow I'm going to skip the weights & power shop instead!

JKL well your inspiring me to! Works both ways. Welcome here and do check in. The more the merrier! Yes shopping to go with that new figure your carving out on the elliptical.

So guilty here about the lime juice fortified with tequila that I just finished five mile walk. Was so perfect with great temperature. Not hot

Hugz - no guilt!!! I came home from a 7pm water aerobics class and made a gin & tonic. That usually ends up being my "dessert" since I try to eat a main meal before 4pm. They have a good dose of lime too so I'm avoiding survey.
