Hoping everything goes smoothly with your surgery, 2Fun, and recovery is speedy and trouble-free. :)

I've not been on here much. Sick chicks keeping me busy, now I'm getting sick, and I was foolish and wanted to act for a few days like nothing is wrong with me since I'm feeling pretty good compared to the last year. And they have given me a lot of exercise from PT - mobility exercises, strength exercises, and "lymphedema exercises" which my therapist doesn't like to call them that, I think, since they won't get rid of lymphedema. I'm falling behind my goals of keeping up with life, house, exercise, wrapping, and putting out those "little fires" of things I MUST do.

And I'm finding that skimping on exercise is not a good thing. I don't sleep as well, so I'm tired and can't do as much, and I GAIN weight even though I barely eat. I'm sure I'll get things sorted out, though.

It's great hearing what you all are doing. And how well things are going. And bread sounds wonderful (though I rarely eat it anymore). When I was doing my exercises at PT, I asked if I'd be able to make bread (knead dough) again anytime soon. She reminded me that my hand is wrapped. Oh well ... I also have a stack of hand-washable that need doing, but I can't get the wrapping wet, and I can't do it with one hand.

    Still a learning curve. :)

You'll be in my thoughts, 2Fun. Looking forward to hearing from you after your surgery. :)

Gee Hugz - I thought I was doing good to to make a one hour 5x a week. Don't think I can match your 2 hour stint.

Had 1/2 a turkey & Havarti in Rye for lunch after I got my Prolia shot. My first bread in awhile. Got home from water aerobics at 8:30pm so had a Gin & Tonic and two deviled egg halves. Might have some coleslaw, buy probably not necessary. Silver Sneakers class in the morning.

Minus. Heck no that cardio was not all at once. My balls of my feet would scream. I trailed one hour at 9am then after getting home from vaca I went to do dreadmill at the gym. Yah I try to clock in five times a week with cardio. So glad your still silver sneakering.

Your meal sounded delicious, gin and tonic is yummy. I'm craving fried chicken and I think it's because I have been dieting low fat and exercising like a mad man over last four days on vaca. Well I did have a half bottle of champagne every night but justified it to my extra exercise. I'm thinking I'll just go get the chicken and be done with it. It's been on my mind for days! One piece only and I'll pick off most of the crispy. I'm so hungry right now I could eat my knuckles. Each and every one. I'll turn out the light and suffer.

I did water exercises each day but truthfully I hated them this time. I rather just walk in the water and move arms around. My le loved it though.

    2fun. Are you ok?

Two hours in the garden this morning digging up & pulling weeds. I had to quit at 9:30am because it was already 95 degrees and i was wringing wet. And I didn't put on my sleeve since I only meant to work 30 minutes. Oh well - off to Silver Sneakers since I appear to be a glutton for punishment.

Yes 2FUN, please check in when you can.

minus. Yes it's the grease I want then I don't eat KFC for two more years. Probably because my gallbladder is in shock for two years.

Wow what a workout in the garden. Yup I know for sure if I say I'm going out to garden for ten minutes it usually means at least a hour. Must wear sleeve... must wear sleeve.. must wear sleeve. mantra Be kind to your arm fir the rest of the day. Elevate hydrate pump fist in air.

    65 min walk.cant budge scale.

Well, my Allbirds shoes finally arrived today. I've only worn them for a couple of hours and so far so good. Pretty comfortable. I ordered a half size up and my orthotics fit in them without removing the insoles. They seem to be more for wide feet which is what I need. So, I think I'll probably keep them but if I change my mind I'll let you all know what I thought after a week or two. First time I ever bought shoes sight unseen but these are pretty good and I think they'll be kinda cute with jeans.

Glad to have your comment about wide feet. That lets me out. I've always been a Triple A narrow. But I'll be interested to hear your continuing reviews.

I got home from surgery this am. My neck isn't too bad from the thyroid removal. A bit like Frankenstein's monster looked! Now I have no naturally occurring thyroid hormones, so I have to work on that with my dr. Masoplexy was minimal, but pretty bruised, exchange looks good, and he needed to cut around to my back to remove all the extra tissue that was flapping under my arm. I am wiped out. Drugs really did me in this time. Thanks for your thoughts/prayers. I now just want the pathology report!

Faith.regarding allbirds. How much cushion is in the insole. I need a ton.

2fun. Ah your a trooper and you made it out of surgery! Yeah. We were thinking about you. Try some deep breathing in bed. Wiggle toes. Squeeze fists. Fluids.

Me trying to break plateau again at gym. Broke one last week slightly but scale won't budge now and I've been giving it hard at gym. Ugh fed up but not beat!

hugz - funny about plateaus. I broke one on Monday, held it through Tuesday and thought I had it made. Oops - back up two pounds on Wednesday & still there this morning. I agree - not beat either so I'll try again.

minus. Ok girl. It's me and you together trying to kill the big plateau. Both of us are gonna stone it to death.

Told all to my trainee and she said try eating more on days I work out so it's 1500 cal on those days and 1350 on lazy days. She said I may be in starvation mode and body hanging on to fat.

We'll see if I can budge the plateau doing this. I've still not got my KFC moment over so this might be the time. Ha, I can't wait to eat the chicken and then say, why did I do that? I be good and only order the crispy breast. My sis said she gets to pick off most of the crispy for the garbage. I'm not sure if I want her to, she's so restrictive. I might not get my greasy fill if she comes near my chicken. I might have to guard it with a pitch fork and eat it under the bedcovers. Sorry I'm KFC consumed today

Well when I buy a rotisserie chicken at the grocery story, I take off the skin. And I cook only skinless chicken or take off the skin. But darn it, I'm going to eat every bit the skin on my KFC original greasy 2 piece meal. And the mashed potatoes. Or maybe mac & cheese. But luckily the road in front of my KFC is closed for construction for the weekend so I'll have to delay & sublimate until next week.

Interesting comments about 'starvation mode'. I hadn't thought of that.

2Fun, glad to hear from you! Getting cut around to the back is no fun. :(

I think the starvation mode can be a real issue. At one point, I wasn't much interested in food and ate between 350-700 cal a day, but did not lose any weight. Got frustrated with docs telling me I need to diet. Scale seems to stick, not gain or lose, no matter what I do (unless I try for a while, then I will gain a pound or two when I stop trying!). Nurse pulled me aside and said maybe I'm not eating enough - I managed to lose some after that by eating more, but the whole cancer thing has interrupted all of that. I need to start again. I'd like to lose before having any revision surgery. But I typically eat one or 1-1/2 meals a day (900-1000 cal total per day. I do like sweet tea though

    Hugz4u,

There is fairly good cushion in the heel but the rest is average. However, my orthotics fit so if you have acushioned insole you might be able to use that also. You could always order a pair and return if they don't work. Free ship both ways. Took about a week to receive.

faith thanks for review. Yup I could put in my orthotic with built in ball of foot lifter but I was hoping on the shoe having cushioning like sketchers so I wouldn't need my orthotics. Dang it because I really liked the wool concept. I hope you enjoy them they look great.

Minus you cook the same way I do with my chicken. Skin off no matter what except skin on with KFC which is once every two years. Wow your brave going with the two piece meal adding mashed potatoes or mac. I thought I was pushing the limit by breaking my diet for one breast and I'll need a club soda to settle my stomach after!

Itfinally. There is no way I could get out the door on 350-700 cal a day. My breakfast has to be between 250-400 alone or I can't function.i eat six meals a day which three are snacks. And it has to be dense fiber type foods with some fats. No fluff or sugar type stuff like I had today.

well I really overate today so we will see what happens over the next two days on the scale. I didn't exercise either today because my muscles needed a rest. They weren't sore but just felt tired.

    Back on the hamster wheel!

I went today to a new LE physical therapist. I hadn't been to one since before my recon surgeries. I didn't have any real issues until this past October when I flew to Cali to see my son. Anyway, long story short I can see and feel an obvious difference now. I'm going on Friday and she is going to wrap my arm and then I am going to start seeing her 2 x a week for 5 weeks. Lots to do, but I will work on this now to make sure the swelling stays down. UGH

Some of the things I was doing wrong was excersizing on the eliptical without my sleeve on and not drinking enough water. It's hot here in Florida now, so that doesn't help

yeah I have to develop something new with calories and exercise. My primary last year put me on a 1200cal/day "diet" and I would fall short unless I had a candy bar, juice, or soda, and I know that's not what I'm supposed to do.

But the more I move, the more I can eat, and the better I sleep. I just have to make it all work. It's hard to do in one leap.

I have news. MY SLEEVE CAME TODAY!!! I have sleeve and gauntlet, no glove. I finally got it on then realized my clean gardening gloves won't work - they are slippy-smooth rather than grabby like latex. But it's weird. I don't know if it's too big? It doesn't feel like compression compared to the wrapping. It's SO easy to wear! If this is "good enough" then I'm ecstatic! I can move my arm. I can bend it. It doesn't itch constantly under the wrapping. And the crease of my elbow was starting to turn purple and painful. I have to watch that my fingers don't swell, but basically i am SO happy! And sleeves on shirts fit again!

I have an appt tomorrow. Will see what they say. :)

homemom. Ok its great you've got it figured out. That's a step ahead. Now the hard part.... compliance.

Itfinally. Yeah! Moving forward! Remember if your inner elbow feels raw from sleeve rubbing put GLIDE product on it which is anti chafe. Love it! Also real thin scar therapy strips work pretty good. Get the reusable. Consider wearing sleeves, gloves, gauntlets only a couple hours a day for first few days.

    worked out today!

    thanks for the info!

I'll have to look for the glide and scar strips. My scar really isn't doing well, and they think that is really contributing to the LE. Which good news is, that contribution at least could be reversible? Scar is developing a ropey appearance above the skin where it was flat before. I have been massaging along and across as they advised to break adhesions.

I didn't think of not wearing it for too long. I got all approval from them, and actually cancelled my next appt, got more exercises. I'm going back in a few weeks but 2X a week not really necessary anymore.

Still wasn't bad really wearing sleeve. More comfortable 2nd day. The gauntlet seemed to be hurting my hand, so I took it off a couple hours before sleeve. It didn't swell my hand much. My fingers were a tiny bit swollen (2 up, 3 down) at appt. but then my fingers have always reacted a lot to many things pre-LE so I want to keep an eye on them of course, but it could even be unrelated.

I think it's going to go well. :) Got in a bit of walking today. I need to work out a good schedule and get more exercise but it may have to come in stages. The time/distance monitor on my exercise thing isn't working, but my phone will keep up with how far I walk outside. It's just so hot so early and I know my arm swells in heat so I'll have to see how things go. But I'll do SOMEthing(s)

Itfinally. Just watch those fingers for swelling. Sounds like you have them in check. You may need a glove down the road. We have to experiment to find out what works best for each of us.

Yes early morn walk before sun hits is a good thing.

Big workout today and muscles finally are fatigued but not sore. Will rest for four days with minimal walking. I'll see how I feel.

I've been following the posts here and now jumping in. I'm on the LE anti-inflammatory diet but I cheat on the no artificial sweeteners because of my diet cokes. I tried unsuccessfully to give them up. I need to do better, remember to take all my supplements and exercise more. My work schedule often makes it hard to get enough exercise.

Also I'm going to have to get fitted for sleeves as I'm flying cross-country in a few months. Uggh never had to worry before LE. Guess it's back to the LE therapist for me.

Gardening this morning and a yellow jacket nest was hiding behind some weeds. Luckily I only got one sting. Unfortunately it's on the side with the LE - half way between my wrist & my elbow. I washed and treated with 'after bite' but it sure still stings 2 hours later. Thank heavens I saw the red wasps further down the fence line and retreated from the field.

minustwo-oh! Thank goodness you only got one bite! Yellow jackets are little a$holes! I'm allergic and carry an epipen. Before the BC and Lymphedema I was like oh...a bee and would swat at it. Now I'm OH A BEE!!!! My DH has even got more proactive in keeping them away from me. I have made me a LE board on pintrest and plan to stay on top of this surgery aftermath. Today is a new day so I'm leaving the weekend behind!

Minus. I hope you dress bite with antibiotic also. Watch like a hawk for any signs of infection. Pesky wasp!

Well it looks like we are inthe same boat and we will all sink if we don't unload some pounds. Not sure but maybe I'm up 3 or so. Exercise...exercise....exercise I'm on vaca and at the pool and mountains. Will use outdoors to the max
