    it is a circular problem....

    Drink

    Exercise to wear off calories

    Get warm and perspire

    Need to get a drink...

My desert tonight was an iced tea with a touch of sugar. You would have thought I ate a candy bar!

Walked 35 min today as I dragged butt after five miles yesterday. Tomarrow Ill hit the gym real good.

was reading a research article about aerobic exercise. This article finds that interval training is the best for longevity. Bare minimum is 15 min a day, with 2 min warm up, 2 min cool down and every minute shift from standard pace to fast pace. Just a good reminder to mix it up when it comes to speed!

I had such a good day that I just want to share it with everyone. Exercised for 2 hours & felt really strong. I have increased weights etc so gradually that I don't even need my sleeve & glove while working out! In addition, I've eaten healthy all day & enjoyed it. Stepped on the scale & had (finally!) lost another pound. And, as icing on this cake of a day, my stubborn seroma finally appears to be resorbing (it's not gone but it's definitely smaller.) Even my anastrozole seems to be cooperating - no dark thoughts or mood swings today! To celebrate, I booked a 60 minute MLD/massage for later this month at my hospital's therapeutic treatment center. I know that every day won't be this good but right now I'm just enjoying this one! Wishing all of you equally happy times ...

JKL - great to hear about your day. Way to go.

I'm still slogging along with water aerobics 3x a week and Silver Sneakers exercise class 2x a week. I don't need sleeves for the water, but I do wear my compression bra. (My LE is truncal & breast). And I've worked up gradually at the Silver Sneakers class so I don't need sleeves there either for weights or stretch bands. Again, just a compression bra.

If I keep doing this 5 days a week and have only one meal a day for at least 5 days a week, I can keep my weight stable. Oh & of course bread only once a week - my great weakness.

2fun. Thx for reminder on mixing it up. I can only do one fast min at 6 mph then two min. at 4 mph for half hour. Sometimes I go 7 mph for one min to mix it up but that's s bit fast for me!

JKL. Wow a day like that doesn't come around to often for me. Yes celebrate for sure! Be sure to keep an eye out while not wearing compression. When we exercise lymph fluid increases and has a hard time to drain out if your nodes are out.Be vigilant!

Minus. Your so dedicated with your classes. It encourages me. Are you intermittent fasting that you eat once a day? I need to eat 6 times a day but sometimes stop eating for 16 hours when I intermittent fast. I haven't done it much this summer and only started in the spring about once or twice a week. To many barbque and foody party's right now!

Hugz - no, not really fasting, but I guess it works out that way. I love breakfast food but not in the morning. Sometimes I'll have something like a banana at 11am, but usually I just have one coke & get moving. I like to eat my main meal between 2-4pm. Then at night I just have an apple or some popcorn. I'm sure this isn't approved by any nutritionists but it works for me. My Mother is probably turning over in her grave since she never let us leave the house w/o eating breakfast, but I'm retired now so I don't need immediate brain food that ends up on my belly or hips. Tomorrow I will ignore all my good works. No classes and I'm playing dominoes in the afternoon with 6 friends who are all bringing snacks. Then we're going out to dinner - probably pizza.

minus. Wow....I want to trade you food bills.

No exercise today but early tomorrow then off to vaca for a week.

Plenty of hiking but I'll have to watch swimming as I have a nasty wound on finger that I'm watching carefully. No cellulitis yet but it's itchy and has now little brown dots with white circles around each dot and in and around the wound.Has anyone had that before while healing

My MLD girl never seen before. I pinched my finger between two steel pipes two weeks ago and the bliste burst at the time and the pinch cut the flesh. Lots of blood. Yikes. I need someone to cut me a break on this one!

Hugz - sorry about your finger. Can you take some antibiotics with you in case you need them? Are you going someplace fun? Have a great time.

minus. Yes I got keflex yesterday.500mg. It says ten days but that's a long time. Is that normal time frame anyone?

I think the doctor just generalized the prescription as I asked for it to be proactive. I'm debating if I should start them as I have IBS from food poisoning years ago and it's so hard on my bowels even with probiotics taken.

I have no redness but only symptoms as stated above. Plus the blister has healed hard. It looks and behaves like when you get a wart burned off. Hummmmm...,

hugz - depending on the antibiotic, 7 to 10 days sounds normal. I have some Ampicillin that I toss in the suitcase when I go in vacation but I really try not to take them. I've never had the visual you described. Then again I've never had cellulitis. I did have a pretty virulent staph infection once from scratching a bite that got infected from the normal staph germs always on our skin.

Cellulitis usually begins as a small area of pain and redness on the skin. This area spreads to surrounding tissues, resulting in the typical signs of inflammation -- redness, swelling, warmth, and pain. A person with cellulitis can also develop fever and/or swollen lymph nodes in the area of the infection.

This link has some pictures of what it can look like.

Hugz - here's what Mayo Clinic says. I wasn't aware of the 'red spots'.

    • Red area of skin that tends to expand
    • Swelling
    • Tenderness
    • Pain
    • Warmth
    • Fever
    • Red spots
    • Blisters
    • Skin dimpling

minus. An thanks for links. I'm trying to posting pic so all can have heads up if this ever happens to them. It seems to be a bit better and not itchy as yesterday. I went for le session and girl worked on it for ten min. Will go twice next week when I get home from vaca as she says its best to come right away to look at and assess for injury. image

OK - I'm a wimp. I only walked 1/2 a mile delivering newsletters. But I did a full hour of water aerobics last night & an hour of Silver Sneakers exercise class this morning. I'll do both again this week.

    Glad you're having fun Hugz.

Hot? It was only 97 in the shade on my back porch today. But I will admit, it was 108 in the car when I came out of the gym. No need to sit in the sauna.

it is hard returning to my normal life. I worked out 5 days a week, lifted with a trainer & ran marathons. My arm is so uncomfortable... the sleeve helps. I walk/ jogged 3 miles today.

Jackie - I hope you'll start back at the beginning w/lifting. I think Hugz said she went back to 1 lb and gradually worked up over a long period of time. I know I started at 1lb after I was diagnosed with LE.

As for the walk/job - I often use trekking poles so I don't forget & just let my arm hang down at my sides. You can do it. Slow & steady.

I was told I could resume so I went back to training. Maybe the training caused the flare up? This is week two. I do normal weights for me..10-12lb sometimes 15. If I do legs, he gives me heavier kettle bells to hold 20-35. I wonder if this is too much. My OT said no. She said, do what I am used to...,

I worry.. because my arm aches. It only is from elbow to shoulder. But the fullness & tightness is bad too. I am calling a new place today that is Lana recommended. I don't think my hp is on top of the Lymphadema aspect of care.

Getting out the door to exercise is the hardest...

Jackie - You're right. Most docs don't know much about LE - if anything. They tend to pooh-pooh these problems. If this was a trained LE/PT who told you to resume that heavy, I'm really surprised. If you have swelling, I would back off. Hopefully Hugz will be by later today since she much more experienced with weights than I am.

Have you seen the site below? It was created with much input from several very knowledgeable ladies from BCO.

I definitely find cardio and movement has helped me feel better when my arm is bothering me. Inactivity makes it worse. Today I ran/ walked3 miles 💪🏻... I used to run 8 mi every day and long runs on the weekend. 10 marathons under my belt. It was part of my identity... I hope I can run again like I used to... but I do believe I have become more in tune with what's more important in life over miles. :

minus yes that's the thread thx!

Walked 3 1/2 miles on trail today. Of course out of the three of us no one got a bug bite but me! And on my le arm of all things. Dang it anyway! I can't see the bite to dress it but I did feel the pinch five min after I shoed the mozzie away so I know it's there somewhere. Life stinks! Well sometimes! I really should post this grrr on the grrr thread!

Jackie. Good job. Sounds like you could give us some pointers as your well seasoned. I need hints on breathing when jogging. At the gym my short legs walk at 4 mph for two min then 6mph for one min. I do this for up to half hour. Sometimes I just jog for a mile at 5 mph then walk the rest. But fast walking is my fav andbest friend. I try not to run too much because of knee and forefoot pain. Let us know how Monday goes

I've been trying to decide what to do when our neighborhood pool closes mid September and water aerobics ends for the season. Sigh. The closest indoor pool is too cold for me, even if I'm moving vigorously. I may try to drive to a further location, but knowing me - if it's not around the corner I probably won't fight traffic & road construction. I guess I'll go back to walking on a treadmill the 3 days I don't have Silver Sneakers exercise class.
