I am dying to get back to aerobic exercise. Was supposed to do weights today, but I did another round of moving stuff in the house from second floor to first, to the car, and then carried into consignment store. So, given all the lifting and carrying, I decided not to press my luck. Weights tomorrow. More moving of stuff tomorrow, but only a couple of things. Lots of water today, wore sleeve and glove, and took breaks. I have night garments on, but too lazy for MLD. I am making major progress, ladies!

Making major progress sounds good, Tina!

    good for you.

So you wear the sleeve all day or just during exercise ? I was just fitted yesterday, and I am wondering what others do, as well as what to expect when I take the sleeve off.

I wear mine whenever I am working with my arms - for me that means my computer job, cooking, laundry and exercise... basically whenever I am going to pick up anything heavy or moving my arms alot...

purple32 - Are you wearing good, supportive shoes?  I know my back and knees hurt if I'm not wearing good shoes.  I'm sorry you're hurting!  Yell

Yes,  Purple, I wear mine to both jobs, my computer job (at home) and my fabric store job... Being both mine are beige, I have only had only 3 comments on them and all 3 were from people I have worked with... I don't have major swelling now but my "good" upper arm is still swollen, so LE therapist thinks that one I should wear most of the time...

Dawne - shoes are really a important thing when knees or hips are out of wack... I hope things feel better soon...

    Thx Dawne.

Yeah, the knee has been asking me to avoid the  exercise for a week now, and I've been listening, but I swear I'll be getting no blood flow at all if I dont do a  little something so I ignored it today, and now it's whining  :>)

    thx

purple - There are running shoe stores that will look at your old running shoes and tell you what kind of shoe will meet best meet your needs. You may need a stability shoe. Truly, a good supportive running shoe may be all you need.

P.S. when I ran x-country I needed to replace my shoes every three months. They CAN make a huge difference! :) I'll get off my shoe soapbox now. ;)

Purple, my therapist has given me the green light to experiment with how often I need to wear sleeve and glove during day. Definitely wear for weight lifting exercise and the kind of tasks I'm currently doing around the house. I almost always wear my compression tank. I have been wearing sleeve and glove at least several times a week. I do wear night garments almost every night. I have a vest and sleeve/glove combo. They do more for me than daytime compression IMO and are more comfortable.

Forgot to report that I have nothing to report. Ugh! Had another day of moving and transporting things, which is good, but then I had to grocery shop to stock up for the approaching storm. That meant canned and jarred goods since our range runs on propane and we can use stove without power. No oven though. Unfortunately (or stupidly), since I was also getting all laundry done today, I did delicates and threw my sleeves and gloves in before I remembered I still needed to shop. So, of course, even with all the canned goods I felt the need to buy two pumpkins! By the time I lugged everything in the house and then threw the wet towels from washer into dryer, I knew I had overdone it. Water, deep breathing, brief MLD and now in bed with night garments. I am frustrated and feel slightly derailed from exercise. I know I will get back to it, as I am really missing the walking.

Purple, I hope your knee feels better soon. I totally agree about the shoes being important. My back suffers when my shoes are not right.

Tina337 - Peace to you.  I understand the getting busy and overdoing it. Yesterday, I had an exterminator come and spray for bugs.  I needed to move my cats. In all the flurry, I didn't don my sleeves nor sleeves.  Paid for it last night.  Undecided

Peace to you.  Be safe all our NE sisters!  xk

    Dawne

You already HAD your exercise by the sounds of it ! Wink

OK, will look around for some new snekers, but it is the same knee that I broke. I used to wear a support brace on occassion when it hurt to exercise. Now I am concerned it may compress too much and bring LE into the leg- dont want to do anything stupid.  Who really knows ?

Bracing for the storm here too and hoping for the best.

RE: How often you wear your garments...when you do, its it all day , all exercise plus an hr . all exercise then take it off .  Can you be a little more specfiic ? Sorry to nitpick, but I am curious.... NOBODY was told about my BC.  Just wondering if LE is about to make me ' come out of the closet"   - sleeve and all!

purple - The answer to your question will vary. Do you have a therapist you can ask? Like others, I wear mine on days when I drive, do any lifting or reaching and when I exercise. I wear it all day.

    Thanks Dawne.

Well, if you  wear it all day it just sounds like " I wear it all day/ every day"!
SO FAR, I have been told this :

"You should only have to wear it while exercising or if you fly." I just sem to have little to no trust in anhyone to do with the ' medical world". I have always been that way- have had some very bad experiences in the past including  but not limited to the early death of my mother.

I trust the ppl. on this forum more- but I know, we are all individuals.

Wearing my garments - I haven't been wearing my compression sleeves much at all since the weather has cooled. I pace myself when doing things around the house and do my MLD daily. I do stretch my arms quite a bit, my version of modified Leded.

If needed, I add more MLD into my day. Yesterday, after doing some kitchen work, I sat in front of the TV for a few and did some MLD. Then I did some passive work before resuming the repetitive stuff.

I really haven't had pain or swelling for weeks - and I even had a cross-country trip with multiple flights! I know this may not last forever but is sure is nice break after the heat of summer. My arm really does not like heat but seems happy with the cooler weather. I haven't used my Flexi-Touch in a least two months - nice. I'm just enjoying the break.

There is a Lebed DVD that has good stretching exercises for the lymphatic system. It helps keep the fluid moving, etc. It's called The Lebed Methed Focus on Healing - you can even get it on Amazon. There is a whole series of exercises but I usually do the 15 minute opening session. Feels good and the lymph system likes it.

Flexi-Touch is a pneumatic system that massages the chest and arm. My insurance covered this equipment and I used it quite a bit this summer when my arm just wasn't happy in the heat. Here is the website: http://www.tactilesystems.com/flexitouch/index.html

A bonus of the Lebed exercises - I had lymph node dissection plus radiation to the axilla and those muscles get tight quickly. Stretching exercises have helped the whole radiated area to stay 'healthy' - even my RO is pleased.

    So much to learn...

Ohio, I too am celebrating cooler weather that has brought such amazing relief from my LE aches!  Somedays I can pretend I don't have it!

Today I hope to get some walking in, and I'll do Lebeds for sure. Surgery went well on Thursday. PS had to re-do a failed fipple in a way that raised it a bit, and then reshape the other side to make sure both fipples are at the same latitude, so to speak.  The more serious re-shaping was on my non-LE side, and drama to the LE side was truly minimal, with no LE repercussions so far, and I don't expect any.  I need to be wise about jostling and jiggling for a while, to give the new fiesta of stitches time to heal, so my exercise will be a bit tame for two weeks or so.

Carol - glad to hear surgery went well. Pamper yourself for awhile.

I started doing some Wii strengthening exercises in hopes of decreasing the knee pain so I can do more steps! Gonna experiment without anti-inflammatory med and see if there is a difference in the pain. I still think it's a combination of age and AI's. Darn both.

I took off the pounds I found in San Fran plus a few more so I'm doing something right. I'm gonna figure this out - I'm gonna get past this knee stuff - I'm gonna make it work somehow. It's so easy to wallow in self-pity and so counter-productive. I don't like the 'poor me' self - I like the 'I can do this' self.

Go, Diane, go!  Haha - that was my self-talk for the day.

It's miserable out so all I've done for my arm is MLD and sleeve it.  I'll have to pretend to go for my walk today since I don't have enough imagination to pretend I don't have LE.Tongue Out

Nice to see you back Carol.

Ohio, you're so right.  It's easy to get caught wallowing.

Ditto what Gma said.......I hope all stay safe from Sandy.

Purple, I had swelling in my arm and hand in February that required attention to get back to my normal measurements. That is why I am wearing sleeve and glove more often than exercise, housework or grocery shopping. Sometimes, I will notice a sense of fullness in my hand, and I always wear compression at these times. I might be able to get away with not wearing for three days if I am lucky. I am anticipating with the storm coming that my trunk, arm and hand will not be so happy tonight and tomorrow. Yes, we are definitely all different with our LE diagnosis and instructions to wear.

So I decided to try the couch to 5K thingy.  Boy have I got a long way to go.

Did the 5 minute walk. Ran 60 seconds, walked 90 seconds than ran about
30 seconds and said screw the last 6 and 3/4 repetitions and finished
with the 5 minute walk.  I suspect I'll be on day 1 for a while yet.  Of
course it would help if it wasn't so freaking cold. Oh, and the
neighbors dog tried to attack me. Fracking people.  Control your dogs!

OK, so I went on amazon to check out the Lebed video, and I got a little upset by the BC survivors Pilates DVD:

    http://www.amazon.com/Pilates-Pink-Workout-Mari-Winsor/product-reviews/B001DGZFEQ/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

Is this not inappropriate with resistance stretch bands ?!

    RE: Lebed video.

I was all set to buy and then I went here to see a  1 min. sample:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pywex7fVkb0

These ladies are doing more arm movements than I would think of!  And NONE are wearing sleeves !  Do you ladies do all this and it really helps ?
I am  very concerned about making this condition worse.

Please view the 1 min to see what I am referring to.

I have to say, I am not happy with the price.  Somehow it feels like " gouging" ... but I would still buy it .

    thx
