The waiting is hard.  On bco there are threads for waiting too.  Please tell us what is dx with you.  Keep you chin up and do wonderful things for yourself to balance the alarm, including remembering that pain is not necessarily cancer either.  My sister's friend had the same type of pain as I did and she needed a duct aspirated.  I hope you havea medical team that really works with you, through it all.

My pain has been in my right arm, probably from the lymph nodes that are involved. It aches all the way to my fingers but no lymphedema. The side of my ribcage hurts ( the muscles) the muscles in my back on the right side all the way to my neck. It's like the muscles are angry and many inflammed from all the drama in my boob and nodes. It hurt bad enough I went to ER and got a pain shot. Ativan seems to help some of the pain - mine can get BAD when I'm upset and get tense. My underarm does ache, and just recently my breast is tender and I get stabbing pains in it. (lump located uppder right quadrant of breast)

Yes it can be painful and the referred pain can drive you nuts because your mind is thinking bad things, but referred pain is normal with this. If a node or lump pushes on a nerve - it's gonna hurt.  So finger to the docs on the no pain talk. LOL

Luvin, sorry for the pain but I found the pain in my boobie has calmed down as time has passed.  I know that is not likely comfort but I remember in the beginning, I was freaked that a gym session would mean I was achie in the boobie to have me reaching for a pain pill,.. Doc said it would calm down and it did.  No more achies after work out but I still have to be careful and do at times get pain in my arm if I overdo workout.  You will learn overtime what works for you. or that is how it has been for me.  Luck and love to be a survivor!

Hi, 34 year old mom of 2 and never breastfed. I have had a pinching pain and burning feeling in my left arm that radiates into the breast for 3-4 months. I feel something just in the curve of my armpit as it reaches the breast. I haven't worn a regular bra for months because it hurts I go braless unless I need to go out then I wear a sports bra. When my arm is down I feel like i'm holding a golfball, its very uncomfortable and when the burning is intense I am constantly moving to try and find a position I can handle. Mamm and u/s both clean. Surgeon doesn't feel a lump per se but a thickening. Occassionally I'll get a deep ache that shoots thru the breast. Now in the past couple days i've been having wierd arm pain. A severe cramp in the crease that caused my bicep and forearm to be sore. And an off and on tingling like my whole arm all the way to my hand is falling asleep. Surgeon isn't giving up yet I have another u/s on Monday to check basically the whole left side especially the armpit area. If thats negative next is antibiotics then MRI. Hoping they figure out what it is, the pain isn't debilitating just annoying for now but it is getting worse. I would just like it gone and the not knowing is stressful. I am so thankful for this site so I can read and post, I tell my husband very little so I don't worry him and I try not to complain too much. All you ladies are so great!

    MCurr,

So sorry you are having such discomfort.  Just keep hanging in there, listen to your body, get 2nd (even 3rd) opinion if necessary until you feel you have exhausted all diagnosis possibilities.

I hope they are able to identify the problem in your armpit area.

    Keep us posted...

Mcurr - ask the surgeon about lobular cancer symptoms - not saying you have it but its less common and can cause some of the things you describe but is hard to image......i would push for MRI in your shoes

Im 32. I was diagnosed w a 2.6cm complex fibroadenoma 9 months ago in my left breast. It has no definite lines and has calcification. I have three smaller ones on the same Breast. It is so painful that I can barely stand to touch it. I can barely wear a bra or lay on that side. The pain doesn't subside. I had a biopsy done 9 months ago that confirmed it to be a fibroadenoma. It made me feel better knowing what it was.

Recently I started having a brownish color sticky nipple discharge, more pain, and burning. I was worried and went in for my follow up ultrasound. They seemed to not be worried about it and said that everything looks normal. The pain is "hormonal". But why is it every day, not just around my period. I can't help but feel like something is wrong. The pain radiates into my breast bone and my left upper part of my back. Could the biopsy be wrong? I can't help but worry. I'm weak, tired, dizzy, I've lost 15 pounds in the past 6 months. I shouldn't feel like this. I feel like I need more answers and I need to speak up since I see other people having pain as well.

    Terry2,

I encourage you to keep after your medical team.  Insist on further testing be it US/MRI or what ever, until you feel satisfied with the results, and can put your mind at ease.....Even if you have to go to another doctor or facility...

Please keep us posted on what you find out,  we are in this together and will be pulling and praying for positive results for you...

I agree with Vickie, find a dif doctor if you are having this much pain.  Docs are not perfect and a second opinion is indeed something I would look for.

I would call the largest and best cancer center near me and ask for a breast surgeon or breast oncologist.   Good luck and do let us know if you have more questions.

Mcurr, have you had an MRI? It seems warranted and would make you feel better if it turns out clean.

I have dense breast tissues so they could never find anything on mammogram, at my October mammogram I was having pain and felt a large dense area. Still not a lump but a denser area. I told them I am very concerned once my mammogram showed what it had each year for the past several years - dense breast tissue. They did biopsies "because I was worried", and found cancer.

Yes it was painful. Just everyone kept telling me it was nothing, while it grew and spread to lymph nodes.

When I finally had the MRI they saw exactly what it was and how large - nine centimeters. Huge.

Press your medical team for an MRI- insurance should cover it. You need to rule it out if nothing else, so you can sleep soundly.

    Hi Ladies;)

I'm new here. Has anyone had breast pain only in one breast? I have had pain in my left breast only for about a year now. I did have a biopsy about 4 years ago in the same breast (fibroadenoma), but never had any discomfort until a year or so ago.

Recently I had my first mammo. Got the call for diagnostic and us follow up for left side. Results were indeterminate wether I have a cyst or dilated duct, however, its way off at the 9 o'clock position -which is not where I feel the soreness to touch. It also stated I have heterogeneouly dense tissue.

I have an appt with a BS next week. Should I ask about MRI? Just curious about the soreness?!? Ty

Welcome to the "club" that no one is anxious to join...

Most certainly, ask the BS for anything you think will help put your mind at ease.  It is always better to ask and be told nothing is wrong than it is to wait too long then wish you had mentioned it before....

Good luck.  Keep us posted as to what happens, please...We are here for you (even if it is just to rant/rave)

Michelle, Terry and Mcurr - please do push your doctor for an MRI. That will see exactly what is going on and help you feel SO much better if it is nothing.

And yes, only my left breast hurt, mine turned out to be cancer- but there are many other reasons that just one side can hurt.

Please be your own advocate and dont let them brush you off!!! I sure wish I had an MRI a few years sooner. I was always too polite to push.

Hi Mcurr- good to hear from you again. Great on the MRI but the lumpectomy? Did it turn out that you do have cancer? I am so sorry, if so.

Or are they doing removal of some tissue as a biopsy?

The doctor is baffled by the pain I am having so she wants to remove the lump with the hopes that its pressing on something. She seems pretty confident that I have nothing to worry about just wants to cover all the bases. I'll breathe easier once I know thats the case. :)

Oh good, I am glad that is the case. Yes, it makes sense to get the calcifications out, and you will feel so much better once pathology fine-tooth combs it to make sure that is all it is.

I will be sending out good vibes to you!!! Please let us know how you are doing. Happy Sunday.

While I agree with the doctors that sometimes the pain is caused by something other than the BC, I disagree with the doctors who say pain is not a BC symptom.  I had intermittent pain and tingling in the nipple.  Yes, it was BC.  No pain after the mast including needing almost no drugs after the mast.  My doc said I probably had become so accustomed to so much pain in the breast that the surgery wasn't a pain source for my body.

Hi all, new to here, just have questions:) Has anyone ever had problems with pains in back of arm when lifting it above head or when looking down? Have had sharp pains in back of left arm for three weeks...but only when i do those two things. For about 3 months i have had a tender left breast on the side top....and can feel something. Also ichy under arm on side by left breast. I am sceduled for a Mammo, untra sound and cspine xray on the 8th. I am driving myself completly crazy. One day i think its nothing...then an hour later im sure that it is!
