OMG guys, life sure is hard sometimes. Nikki I don't know what to say actually. Keeping everything crossed for you that all is okay!!! It seems that a lot of us have problems with our kids mental health. I suppose our diagnoses doesn't help either. My daughter has had to go on antidepressants too as she struggles with anxiety which can be completely debilitating. Nikki I will be keeping everything crossed for you. Keep busy, like KT said, lots of distractions. Optimist did you just have a hysteroscopy or did you have to have a hysterectomy? Nice to hear from you Shazza xxx

KT, Shazza and Donna thanks so much for your words of encouragement. It's surprising how common these issues are in young adults. I don't remember when I was that age hearing about it much, maybe people just didn't talk about mental health issues much then. I find this ongoing worry about my son harder to deal with than BC at the moment.

Donna, I had a large fibroid removed about seven years ago, I think it was a hysteroscopy, still have uterus. It was because of taking Tamoxifen for two years. When I stopped taking it, I felt a great relief because I had had many unpleasant side effects, however looking back I wish I had been offered an alternative i.e. ovarian suppression plus AI as I was premenopausal then. I can't believe how complacent I was back then, wish I had found this website years ago and researched more but I was sort of just living in blissful ignorance.

    Hi ladies

I hope you're keeping ok. Sorry I haven't posted in a long time but I've got an active thread and a scary situation. If anyone has any insight or can lend some words of support I would really appreciate it. Rather than repeat everything here I'll link a post to my thread.

But in brief, I'm halfway through my first pregnancy and my boob is playing nasty games which look scarily similar to inflammatory breast cancer. I had 6 biopsies today and am waiting on pathology.

KK. Firstly congratulations on being pregnant. Sorry to read that you are going through such an anxious wait. Fingers crossed for quick and clean path results, so that you can get on with the joys of pregnancy. Waiting is the worse isn't it?

    Hi kiwikid,

I hope they get the results back to you quickly & that all is ok. Ouch, the biopsy didn't sound nice.

I hope everything else is going well. I hope you are enjoying being pregnant despite this worry. Thinking of you- please let us know when you get the results x

Hey kiwikid I don't know if this will help but the same thing happened to me about 6 months or so ago. I had a red patch about the size of a 50 cent piece come up on my good boob directly above my nipple. I tried not to panic and it slowly turned purple over the next couple of days, it looked like a bruise. I went to the Breast Clinic at Manukau Super Centre and they did a biopsy and it came back Fibrocystic changes which was a huge relief. Just thought I would mention it. Never in my 55 years have I had a red patch like that come up on my boob and it was a bit worrying but it turned out to be nothing to worry about. Hopefully yours will be okay as well :)

Thank you kt nik and fizz! Yes waiting is horrid. Well was...

Good news, the specialist called and she'd spoken to the pathologist who said there is nothing dodgy going on in there at all! She reported some minor inflammation but definitely nothing sinister. She's putting it down to a hormonal response and wants to see me again if anything crazy happens but in the meantime I'm to finish the antibiotics and have an uneventful pregnancy. Hooray. I will sleep tonight.

Enjoy that baby :) It's lovely feeling them kick (so long as it's not too vigorous) and have fun getting all the paraphanalia you need. Great excuse to shop :D

Thanks for all the crossing of the fingers - it must have worked!

I saw Rita Sasidharan today - I get what you mean Donna. Not particularly empathetic. Rosalie is now not on the breast team so hopefully I get Sheridan next time.

The hot spots were caused by: Hip pain is caused from a bursitis, which is caused by my knee problem. I've now got severe osteoarthritis in right knee, and not so severe in my feet and shoulders. Before in my staging scan I just had osteoporosis in those places. She has referred me to Gyne to have my ovaries out (great, no more Zoladex). Also shes making an urgent request for me to see Orthopedics to get my knee sorted out.

So all in all a great day. I am off to Sydney with a girlfriend in a couple of weeks so I am glad that I only have arthritis.

Thank you for your support - it means lots to me.

Oh Nikki I am so happy! I've been checking on here all day and thought it must have been bad news. Wow what a big relief for you, a great day. PS - Glad you get what I mean about Rita, I've had gold fish with more personality :)

Great news Nikki. I'm so pleased for you. You will have a great time in Sydney without the worry.

I'm no Rita fan either. So glad I've only come across her a couple of times

    That's great Nikki :)

Better arthritis than mets. It'll be nice not to keep having zoladex injections too. Yay for a holiday in Sydney too!

Nikki and KK....catching up on reading the posts and so glad all is ok with you both. Happy happy news!

I was just at mental health services with my 22 year old daughter yesterday again...she's suffered anxiety and bouts of sadness for two or three years now...so that's another one to add to our small group. Do you think there is a connection between our health and theirs as it seems strange we are all bc patients and it seems most of our kids have had issues, or do you think it's just society these days? It's a worry that's for sure and I too find it hard to handle sometimes and be the totally supportive parent that I think she wants me to be. I don't burden her with any of my worries or concerns but feel like she expects me to deal with all hers miraculously and it's just not possible. Kids! :)

Glad all went well with your op Donna.

Our landscaping is finished now. Just waiting for the grass to grow ...thus week is a bit more showery and grey so haven't had to water it really.

Have slowly cleared out a bit more of the garage too so I now have access to my treadmill and cross trainer so have been trying to do some exercise past few days. So unfit! I'm determined to do something every day though now to try and help get my energy levels back up.

    K. x

Hi guys, hope everyone is doing well. Kruise I'm sorry to hear about your daughter suffering from anxiety also. My daughter got it a few years ago when doing a nursing degree, it was all just too much for her. I know my BC diagnoses added fuel to the fire which makes me feel guilty. Why do mums always blame themselves when things go wrong for our kids? Good luck with your exercising. I'm feeling a bit bummed at the moment because I'm sure I have put some weight on. I am on this special Mediterranean Diet which is going really well, but I'm wondering if I am eating too much of it because I feel like I've put on weight. Typical!!! I would be the only person I know who goes on a special diet run by Auckland University and puts weight on - I will be a laughed at I'm sure. Take care everyone, Donna xxx

Thanks for all your comments - including the verification on Rita's beside manner, or lack of. I laughed Donna about your goldfish comment! If she was the first Oncologist I met when I was diagnosed I think I would've headed for the hills. I did explain to her that if I couldn't walk without a stick (because of my osteoarthritis) then treating me for BC was pointless, and she did get that.

Interesting that many of you have mental health issues with your kids. My daughter (nearly 20) also suffers terribly from anxiety. To be fair, she was suffering before my BC diagnoses, but it worries me so. She tells me everything that goes on, has major panic attacks about (to me) the most unimportant things, and is sad a lot of the time. I think that it has a lot to do with society, and Louise does agree with me. Sometimes I think that because I have always worked at home, I have been too available. She's never had to carry herself on her own, I have always been there to prop her up. My son is completely independent. It's strange.

I hope everyone is having a good day.

So pleased you got good results Nikki, although it sounds as though the arthritis is pretty hard to deal with. It's strange that so many of us are having these problems with our similarly aged kids. My son has been quite a 'challenge' all along, but has been particularly depressed and angry since his girlfriend broke up with him a few months ago. He's starting a weekly mindfulness class tomorrow, so I'm hopeful that it will help. I've done some research and got him some 5HTP which is a supplement supposed to help with raising serotonin levels which are low in depressed people. It mustn't be taken with antidepressants, similar with St Johns Wort as they can cause serious interactions.

Hey Kruise. I hope your newly landscaped garden hasn't been wrecked by the rain down there today. The lower floor on my Mum's house is completely underwater, she's in Titahi Bay.

    kt1966 Member Posts: 1,021

Wow, that rain must be bad. Hope all is good Kruise.

It is interesting how we all have at least one kid going thru mental health issues. Let us know how the 5HTP helps Optimist. I hope they'll all work thru this & come out the other side better, more empathetic people.

Another grey day here. Would be nice to see the sun! Chemo again yesterday, had my mum for company & we went out for a cafe lunch with my sister afterwards. Very enjoyable (can recommend the Dutch pancakes at Zomer).

I was on 5HTP for a while a couple of years ago. It worked like a fairly mild version of Citalopram, no side effects, just cut off the big lows. Sadly I started getting worse, and increased my dose to max, then had to switch over to real Citalopram. Which then gave me the motivation to go to my GP about the lump in my breast.

And the rest, as they say, is history. Possibly because I delayed that GP visit (I was in total denial), I was DX'ed straight to Stage 4.

I would definitely recommend 5HTP to anyone who is not too badly depressed, but when it gets really bad, switch to the real thing.

hi everyone....we were all ok with the rain. I think the Porirua area was worst hit. Our new lawn got a good soaking well and truly but no damage at all and at least the rain didn't last too long.

Interesting about the kids that's for sure....it certainly seems very prevalent these days...scary. Nikki I can relate to how your daughter is as mine is the same, tells me everything, far too much info from what I would have talked to my Mum about! Lol. And just stresses and gets anxious over little things too. I gave her the book to read called "don't sweat the small stuff" to try and get her to put it into perspective. She has hyperventilation panic attacks too. My other daughter is fine. Very mature and sensible and just gets on with things.

Sun is just starting to come out here right now so hoping the weekend will be ok. Hope you all have a good weekend.

HI guys, I hope you all had a happy mother day too. Nice pic Kruise, which beach is that one? Hasn't this weather been amazing? I spent the day with my daughter and my elderly Mum. My son came home from Duck Shooting so I even got to see him - miracle! Lovely day here again in East Tamaki. Hope everyone is feeling good and happy on this beautiful day, Donna xxx
