    Beautiful photos!

I'm glad you had good mothers days :) Me too- I visited mine with my daughter, then went to a cafe with my hubby, daughter & son.

Not so good was that the day before my elderly (nearly 89) father-in-law fell & broke his hip, so is now in hospital :(

I have instructions to not exercise this afternoon (& no sugar tomorrow am) as I have my PET-CT scan tomorrow. Just as well I got a bit of exercise this morning & at the weekend or I'd feel all blobby.

    Have a good afternoon..

    beautiful pictures Kruise.

KT good luck for tomorrow. Is the PET being done through the hospital or privately?

I have to have an ECG done at the beginning of each cycle as part of the trial. It has to be done exactly 1 hour after I have taken my tablets. It's a complete waste of time as there's nothing wrong with my heart and taxol doesn't cause heart problems like some chemos. Anyway I should have gone today but completely forgot. Slightly embarrassed when I got the where are you call. I was having a lovely unrushed morning. It was far to late by then so I will have to go tomorrow.

    Hi Shazza.

I'm getting the scan privately (at Mercy) as I have insurance. I suggested it last time I saw Reuben since the markers were going up (at first he said no, which I accepted, then he changed his mind). I kind of want to see how active the mets are looking, I'm tired from taxol all the time- if I keep having it I want to know that is actually working.

Forgetting all about your ECG is soo something I'd do. What a pain to have to be done at the start of each cycle- do you have to go to Ak hospital? Is it a separate trip to your assessments (every 3 weeks too?)

Well, I've had my breakfast- now nothing but water till after my scan :( I'll miss my mid morning coffee...

(Edited to fix 'Mets' changing to 'keys', stupid spellcheck)

Hi guys, I have to write everything down and I'm not going through anything like you guys. I don't know if it's because of the Tamoxifen or if I'm just a bit thick, I suspect it's the latter haha. I've even got Coffee written on my hand so I remember to buy coffee on the way home tonight!. Good luck with your tests KT. Kruise those photos are so beautiful. Hi Shazza :) Take care everyone, Donna xxx

Hoping for positive results from your scan KT, and I hope that your chemo goes well today.

Because I am such a control freak, I've been busying working like a demon to get things sorted before I go to Sydney on 24th. I can't wait to have a change of scene for a few days.

I saw my GP on Monday and we went through my CT scan results. Turns out that there is something called "ground glass allenuation" in my left lung. Rita didn't share this will me at my followup appointment. My GP thinks that it's radiation damage and probably the cause of my SOB. I am pleased that there looks to be a reason for it and that I am not going crazy.

On the subject of being forgetful - I went through a stage of forgetting my appointments, coffee with friends etc. I now have a weekly pad which I write things on. I tried to use my phone but I am a simple creature and couldn't work it out, much to the kids disgust.

    Have a good day everyone.

Hi Nikki, thanks for the well wishes :)

Chemo was good today, nicely on time. I'll get my scan results on Monday.

I'm glad your gp went thru things more thoroughly with you. I always ask for a copy of scan reports. That way you can read at your leisure. There's always things that get skipped over or that you forget...

Sydney will be great! Do t wear yourself out beforehand tho!

    Have a great day all

Oh my Nikki your poor sister. I hope things aren't worse after the weather last night. Hope you're ok Kruise and Terre it sounds like it was pretty wild down there.

KT good luck with your scan results on Monday.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. I'm off for my weekly bloods. My veins are so shot it's always a mission

Hi guys. Oh Nikki your poor sister and I hope everyone else down there is okay. It sounds like it got pretty rough last night. Can't believe how hot it is at the moment. I'm actually looking forward to winter as my hot flushes are really bad in the summer haha! Take care everyone, hope you all have a lovely weekend. Good luck for Monday KT. Donna xxx

    Morning :)

What a mess for your sister Nikki. I hope it's drying out now. Pretty windy last night!

Hubby's sister was meant to fly out last night to visit his dad over the weekend but the flight was cancelled (she's Wellington too). The flight was booked before his dad broke his hip. So I think she'll wait a while before coming up now.

I got my scan results in the post today, on a cd! I don't think I could interpret them or even get the cd to open, so I'll wait for my appt on Monday (tempting to try tho!)

Have a good weekend girls :)

Hi. I'm back from my appointment.

My results were a mixed bag- some areas of bone healed, some more active & some new areas of bone mets. Lungs are pretty much the same. Tumour markers are still going up. So....

I get to have a chemo/zometa holiday (yay!) for 3 months (scary!).... Then another CT scan and I'll probably be starting on weekly chemo again- this time vinorelbine (navelbine), hopefully I'll get a longer run on this one!!!

Thanks for thinking of me. I hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was ok- quiet, visited f-i-l in hospital & my dd came up on Sunday with her boyfriend. She's talking about moving home bcos it's so expensive flatting (she'll have to commute down to AUT each day!). DH was away most of the weekend on a motorcycle rally (my dad took his bike too!).

    Have a good week :)

Thanks for the update KT, I have been thinking about you today. I suppose a mixed bag is better than a complete s**t sandwich. Hopefully having a chemo holiday will give you a chance to recharge yourself before starting on the new stuff. When do you start your holiday?

  • kt1966
    kt1966 Member Posts: 1,021

My 'holiday' starts now :) And lasts till August, unless my symptoms increase, in which case I'll start chemo again sooner. It will be nice to have a break from putting poison in my body & not to have to drive to Ak so often.

I'm hoping I'll regain a lot of my energy :D

Not long till you go to Sydney now :)

As you say a bit of a mixed bag KT but I think a break will do you good. My 6 week breaks didn't have a negative effect on my cancer and I felt better for them. You will feel great after 12 weeks. A friend of mine had a year on vinorelbine and reckons it was his favourite chemo ever. Not one single side effect. I hope you get that too.

Thanks Shazza :) I'm looking forward to feeling rejuvenated!

Ugh. I didn't sleep last night tho...I hate that.

I'm so glad taxol is going so well for you & I'm kind of sad to say goodbye to it, while it's not easy being on chemo all the time, it was ok.

Hi KT, glad that you're getting the 'holiday', I hope you feel more energised from now on. Have a great break in Sydney Nikki, I lived there for a year in my 20s, it was great fun.

I went to my BS today to tell her my decision about remaining breast, have decided to keep on with the 6 monthly mammo plus US and MRI checkups for the near future anyway. Have agonised over this and so sick of thinking about it. She recommended I get genetic testing through the public system for BRCA1 and BRCA2, although with lobular BC these mutations are not likely. My mother had DCIS and IDC ER-/PR- so very different to mine. No one else in the family has had it. Anyway that probably won't happen for a while yet.

Hope everyone is doing well, bye, Michelle.

Glad you've made a decision to wait Michelle. It's tough when you're unsure about something that can't be undone.

It's getting dark out here in Howick today. I must admit that I am loving the cooler weather though - it makes the flushes easier to deal with and not quite so noticeable.

I saw Florence Foster Jenkins last night with a girlfriend. It was a lovely movie, although a bit sad.

Hi guys, sorry I haven't posted for a while. Just been really busy - looking for a new job, can't stand my boss any longer and the hard time she has given me about my medical appointments. I don't know if I believe in Karma but she has been sick in hospital and is worried about bowel cancer. Of course I hope it isn't, but maybe she will be a bit more understanding now? I got my results of my uterus biopsy in the mail the other day and it was benign, so relieved but I think if it had been sinister I would have heard a lot sooner, phew! Now I just have to learn to ignore all the other things that don't feel right because I think I am now a hypochondriac - thanks cancer you have turned me into my mother haha, I love my mother but she has always been one. Sounds like you guys are all doing well. KT it must be nice to have a holiday from treatment. Optimist you said your surgeon recommended genetic testing through the public system. I'd be very interested to hear if they let you have it because I was told a big fat no, only if you are really young or there is a strong family history? My lovely old (13 years) lab is having surgery today for a massive lump that came up on his shoulder, they hope it's an abscess but I am worried. There is always something to worry about isn't there! I am loving this cold weather, suits me much better with all these hot flushes haha! Take care every one, Donna xxx

    Hi girls.

Brrr it's cold today. I have to admit I hate winter, I really don't like being cold.

Michelle, I think you've made the right decision. I waited 10 years to get my prophy- by that time I was well and truly sick of being lopsided & couldn't wait for it to be gone! If you start to feel like that, then go for it ;)

I hope your dog is ok Donna. Good luck with the job hunt.

My brain is so flakey these days. I took one of my own books back to the library accidentally & didn't realise until days later when I found the one I thought I'd taken back under my bed. Luckily they have it (in another library now) and I'll get it back....

Thanks for all your comments. I'm certainly enjoying cooler weather, it's hard dealing with a 6 month long summer when you're having hot flashes! Donna, about the genetic testing, I was going to have a 22 gene test organised by the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, but apparently this is still in development and not available yet. So my BS at St Marks Breast Centre suggested going through the public system. I think because I first had BC at 40 and now have had it twice, and my mother has had it in both breasts, that makes me eligible for the test. It won't be for a while though and it's not urgent. I don't have daughters but males can be at greater risk of other cancers and can pass the mutated gene on to their daughters so it would be good to know.

I've also read about the genetic test through Color Genomics (mentioned in a few threads on this website) that you can send off for by yourself for about US$250. I might look into that.

Oh that's so interesting Optimist52. The only reason I'm so interested is my father and his brothers and a sister have all had cancer, mostly bowel. I have been estranged from my real dad for years until recently. He didn't think I needed to know because he believed only men got bowel cancer.? (yes I know, it's unbelievable) I member my brother getting a call from an uncle to say be careful because the family has a bowel cancer gene but I can't believe they didn't tell me. So I am wondering if there is a genetic link. I also know people with ILC have a greater risk of GI tract cancers. I just find it all quite interesting. I might look into that Color Genomics test as well. Take care, Donna xxx

hi lovelies...KT I know your results were a bit of a mixed bag but the chemo holiday will do you the world of good energy wise. And as Shazza said her 6 week break didn't negatively alter anything. Just concentrate on eating well (plenty of greens!) and doing all those things that are good for the mind and soul! Winter is a great time to make all those yummy soup recipes with anti cancer things like garlic, turmeric etc added. The more I read lately I am definitely keen to go sugar free - it's just starting!

Our garage is organised enough for me to have my gym equipment set up now so I'm prioritising exercise a bit more now too. I have to get fitter as am doing a trip over to Kapiti with friends on 11 June for the day - so plenty of walking etc involved.

Nikki - not long until your Sydney trip. Eeeeeek how exciting! Hope you have an absolute ball.

A bit grey and miserable here today. We are heading into Wellington city after lunch as going to stay the night in at the Amora hotel. We got given a voucher by the real estate agent when we sold the house and it's nearly expired so have to use it up. We even get a bottle of bubbles and snacks upon check in, a 5 course meal tonight and breakfast tomorrow. So a lovely treat!

Donna I also have bowel cancer quite extensively on my fathers side. When I did my genetic test for BRCA the doctor told me that there used to be considered a link between the two but for whatever reason that has changed. It is still linked to prostrate cancer - so for instance my brother has a higher chance of getting that, and yes males can carry genes for it.

Good luck with your testing Michelle. And good you made a decision about your remaining boob.

Hope your weekend goes well everyone. x

    Hi girls.

You're right, it has been quiet Donna. Hope you're having a good week. It's sunny here at the mo, after a big downpour. I think we've had enough rain for now thanks. I'd like to get outside for a walk.

Kruise, good idea having a gym set up inside- gets too cold & wet to get enough exercise in over winter. I hope you & Tim had a fantastic time in Wellington at the hotel- sounded wonderful!

Nikki, I have a feeling you left for Sydney yesterday- I hope you're having a blast!

We're signing on the dotted line tomorrow- contract for house to be built. Scary, but we need to get it moving. Can't wait to move in! (Prob not till next year...)

    Take care all

You certainly aren't missing anything here, It's persisting down as we speak in East Tamaki and it's gotten very cold, very quickly. Have a ball my friend, Donna xxx

Nikki it looks like you are having a fantastic time. Keep the photos coming.

I had a scan this week as I've been on the oral taxol for 12 weeks now. I'm pleased to report that I'm still stable so the meds are working their magic.

Hope everyone has a great weekend
