Yes I'm on my now. Hubby took children home.
I've just had the anesthetist here and now have a line in my arm. I'm waiting for the nurse to come back and finish her forms.
I'm starving too! I've only been allowed fluids today. My stomach is grumbling!0 -
Will be thinking of you KiwiMum :-)

Good luck for tomorrow, Kiwimum.I waited 3.5 years before my reconstructon and have never regretted it. It will be amazing when you wake up from the operation tomorrow. My thoughts will be with you.

Good luck Kiwimum!
patc yes you read it right. I want a mastectomy but I don't know if insurance will cover it, but stan and I will do our best to word the letter correctly, I think they'll do at least one. The recommendation is radiation, which I don't want. I would be able to get that publicly or privately I'm sure, but stan thinks the public system probably won't pick me up and do a bmx. Never mind, my second opinion about adding a taxol to my ac is not till the end of feb so I won't be seeing stan again till after that.
Yes he is a great man. We he arrived for my surgery he had blue reflector sunglasses inside, with his suit, like something from the matrix, then when the anaesthetist was trying to find a vein as I was lying in surgery, stan had the blue radiation goggles on for my snb, he was like a little kid with the goggles on blasting the blue rays at his hands. I had to laugh. He is an amazing surgeon and has excellent people skills. He has called me and reassured me a number of times and gone beyond the call of duty I believe. And he's pretty hot for a Bollywood star too! Definitely meets tall dark and handsome.

Thinking of you kiwimum. By the time you read this it will be all over and you will be all balanced again. Hope recovery is not too tricky. Mx arn't too bad and I wonder how putting them back compares. Pretty sure it's not the same..
Rest easy and let others look after you.

I finished my chemo mid July 2012. I have been having niggly pains in the back of my head. Did anyone else experience this after chemo or am I just being paranoid.
0 -
It's done and went well. Thanks for the well wishes. Today I'm very tired and sore. They are keeping the room very warm to help the flap take. Between the heat, the compression tights and layers of blankets, I am roasting!
My blood pressure has been very low, as are hemoglobin levels. I've had to have 2 bags of blood infusion.
I can say I'm happy now it's done and know that every day will be better than the last hopefully!
Kiwikid - Stan sounds hilarious. This morning my breast surgeon who did my mastectomy 2 years ago came to visit- Isaac Cranshaw. I didn't think he knew the date and was quite touched.
Suzette - I've not had that but if you are worried I'd get it checked out. It's certainly normal to be worried and have fear. I know I do!0 -
Hi Kiwimum, so glad you are all done and it went well, you will be tired and the heamoglobin being low won't help. but glad all went well for you, you would be wanting to have a good sleep today i guess. just really glad it went well for you. warm gentle hugs. xxxooo

Hi Kiwimum, glad that it is over. My blood pressure was very low as well for the first two days, and when I sat out of bed in the morning so that they could make my bed, I refused to get back into bed, and started walking around in the room, and then in the corridor. It brought my blood pressure up and made me feel better. I cant remember how many drips and drains I had in, but I had a name for each of them. I went back to bed at 5pm the first day, exhausted. I also remember the room being very warm as well. Isnt it amazing what they can do nowadays.

You are right Mandy. It is amazing.
Here's where I'm at...
I'm doing really well, but still have a pain drip.
What I've disliked the most
- wearing the surgical tights and leg pumps
- the heat the room was for the first 2 days to help the flap take, gosh I was hot
- the hourly checks which mean I got not a lot of sleep in those first 2 days
- trying to walk with the drains and hunched over like an old lady. I get halfway around the hospital hallway and have to stop due to back ache, not stomach pain.
- low blood pressure which need a blood transfusion on day 2
- constant nausea from the meds
On the positive side
- 3 of my drains have been removed. I have one remaining in my reconstructed breast. The other lifted breast had the drain out yesterday
- my flat tummy is going to be awesome. The surgeons also did some lipo on my hips for symmetry - anyone else have that? I was surprised when I came to about that. It had never been discussed. The nurses here tell me it's common with the plastics guys because they are all about symmetry. I wish I'd known so I could have said "do my thighs and butt" while you're there. LOL!
- I now have 2 breasts
- today I've managed to get myself in and out of bed to use the bathroom
- today I had a shower and got my hair washed - yay!!
Standing upright and feeling good seems distant still.0 -
KiwiMum, so glad it is going well! You sound just like me at the same stage. I ended up having to come home with 2 drains in (the abdominal ones) but they were gone quickly.
Stretching back to upright does take a lot longer than I thought it would. My surgery was the end of September and I still have to remind myself to stand straight. My physio has told me to stand in ballet position (can't remember which number) with one foot in front as this gives a nice stretch - but you are a ways off that yet...
Hoping for more healing for you :-)

Kiwimum, I am so glad that you are on the mend. It is a big operation, but definitely worth while. I am so jealous, as I did not get an offer of liposuction for my hips and I am big hipped.
FYI, when I came home after 8 days in hospital just over 2 years ago ( I think it was 8 days, but may have been 10 days), I still had 2 drains in and I was told not to drive etc. I was staying with my daughter who was due to have her baby a couple of weeks later and she lived on her own on acreage, when I accompanied her to her check up. I did suggest that she put her suitcase in the boot of the car just in case, but she said that she would do it when we got home from her checkup.
Well, her blood pressure was sky high and after 4 hours, she was told that she would have to be admitted and the baby will have to be brought on. There I was, with my drains that I had hidden in my shopping bag, and no one at her house to bring the suitcase. I drove her automatic car to her place, somehow shoved the suitcase along with my body and, yes, I did lift the case in to the boot. Hubby was over 2 hour drive away, and I phoned him to come over to feed the horses, etc. I then drove the car back to the hospital and asked someone to help me get the suitcase out of the car and they put it on a wheelchair for me so that I could push the wheelchair.
My daughter's waters were broken later that evening and she was in labour from 1030pm to 6.30am the next morning when my first grand daughter was born. I still dont know how I managed to stay awake all night encouraging my daughter and holding on to my shopping bag. I was the first one to see and cuddle my grand daughter as my daughter was taken straight to theatre due to severe tearing. I drove the car to my daughter's place later that day and I never told the visiting nurse any of that. (Sometimes rules have to be broken.)

Wow Mandy! What you did for your daughter is amazing!! Sometimes you do have to break the rules!

Kiwi Mum, how are you today? How many more days in Hospital. mind you as long as you getting looked after well, i would not rush it and how is the balance with the low BP, i do hope you ok, gets pretty boring, but when you sick or had surgery, its nice to be there and attention paid to you. Hope you getting better and feel better. thinking of you. warm hugs.00XX

Thanks midnight. I'm doing ok and hope to go home Friday.
All my drains are out - BIG celebration! I'm getting myself up and down to the bathroom with no help. This afternoon I did full loop of the ward. I was hunched over and it hurt my back terribly, but still worth it.
My hubby and children have just left, after bringing McDonalds in. The girls were determined to eat with me. I'm not a big Maccas fan but did quite enjoy it.
Yes definitely getting bored. Gosh daytime tv is terrible! And those horrible informerials!!0 -
Kiwimum, congratulations of having all your drains out. You must heal very well. Great to see you doing your exercise as well. It is hard not to hunch over, but you are doing great after such a big operation. xoxox

Just thought I'd drop by and say hi to all you NZ ladies. Hope you are all doing well. Weather in the manawatu seems to be getting a little cooler, for february but we're still very dry here. Hoping for some rain soon. DAys and nights are noticeably drawing in. Before we know it it will be winter. I love the autumn though. Such a lovely landscape with all the leaves turning....I even seen some turning now. Thats pretty early.
Have a good day all.

Glad to hear you're doing ok kiwi mum
I'm on day 4 of my third round of chemo, I feel like crap!
Less than two weeks to find out about whether ill be adding taxol, it seemed such a long wait but now its so soon, time is flying!
I have an appointment with a medical counsellor about decision making in a couple of weeks too, which I'm looking forward to. Have pretty much resolved to do the mx, it's just about one at a time, or both...
Looking forward to whatever comes next, it must be better than this.
I'm 3 months since diagnosis today, it's been a tough road but it's getting better.
How is your healing going kiwi mum?
Xx kk0 -
Hi kiwikid, I hope you're starting to feel better. Is it one more AC to go? I had 4 rounds of it when I was going thru it 9 years ago (about this time of year too). Hang in there!
I didn't have the option of Taxol, but see a lot of people seem to get it now as well as AC. So can't help you with SE's or anything...
I had a UMX, kind of wanted BMX, but surgeon said it wasn't necessary, but it would have given me more peace of mind... being lop-sided is a bit of a pain (I do wear a prosthetic, but that gets hot in summer). Only you can make that decision, everyone is different
Midnight, I hope you get to the bottom of your health problems at the mo. Not knowing what's up is so hard...once you know you can treat it & feel better. Hugs.
How are you going Kiwimum- hope you are having less pain & getting more mobile.
Hi Musical from up north!
& Hi to everyone else...
I have to collect my son from the school bus now- but wanted to say hi & hope you are all ok!

Hello Kt and all you lovely ladies. yes its certainly worrying, i was just getting used to the iron and thyroxine being low and now and he tells me i have swelling in my throat and he got me to swallow water and he felt my throat as it was going down and felt this swelling, so sending me to endocrine clinic. so all will be revealed. How are you, hope you ok.
Kiwi mum, hope you ok and feeling better. hope you are also relaxing. All you other ladies, hope you all fine.

Only one more AC to go Kiwikid! You are nearly there! After I did 4 AC, I went on to do 12 x Taxol weekly. By comparison Taxol was a breeze! I would have it on Tuesday afternoon and was back at work Wednesday. AC is the hard part! You've got this!
My healing is on track. I went for a check up yesterday and the surgeon was happy. Everything is healing nicely. I go back again in 4 weeks. In the meantime I need to rest and take it easy. I'm not yet walking upright but hopefully soon!0 -
Midnight, I hope you get that throat sorted. When is your appointment?
