kk those ones on the right look beautiful and comfy with that nice wide band. What a pity they dont give a back view. I love the deep cut back at the shoulder like the sports bras do. I find that really helps with my sensitive shoulder inssues. If these had that they look like a real goer. The normal sports bras tend to have quite a sturdy band around the bottom part and thats not good. LE in the arms is bad enough. I'll give the truncal LE a bit fat miss.
In my thinking there no 100% peaceful decision with BC in the sense that its always the choice between the lesser of 2 evils. We dont get a choice about how life changing BC is in and of itself. I found once I looked at it like that it made my choices easier and more definite. Theres always going to be regrets no matter what we do and thats why it's important for everyone to choose whats right for them. All the best with that decision kt.
kk Im like you, I couldn't wait for mine to grow back. Had long hair all my life and Ibasically havent cut mine at all. It still has chemo curls at the bottom, buts its approx 18 inches long now. Some parts are down to my waist.

Hey Musical, Old Palmy Hospital in the poo, left an 82 year old man all night in the waiting room of the emergency dept and he was brought in by ambulance and it turns out he had a bleeding bladder. so it does not even mean going by ambo will get you in, he left after nine hours with out seeing a doc as he was so distressed. They saying they were monitoring him, by a nurse, and took his medical history, They need a good kick those night staff at the er dept, they are only human, but i know that when i was there that night with that filthy headache, i could of had a clot, but i waited for hours. I saw alot of goofing around as well between the Doctors and nurses and could tell they were not rushed off their feet all the time. That poor old man. nine hours in those terrible seats and he was serously ill. I don't know.

Annette I agree and it has been my experience to witness just what you described. Laxity and a "she'll be right" attitiude except when it meant they could laugh out loud and just fool around. That was more in the wards though. ER would not be too far behind I could imagine.. Ive seen them laughing right outside my bedroom door VERY LOUD for ages, with all the foul language and cursing under the sun. This was nurses! and this was after I'd come back from surgery and still groggy from Anesthesia and feeling dreadful. As for ER I remember I was there for 8 flippin hours when I had a seroma, and I was so livid by the time I got out I cried all the way home. 9hrs is DISGUSTING. Anyway I call it the bug factory and thats what both hubby and I got for our 8 hrs of trouble. That was after all my treatments and I have to tell you all through those wouldn't hold a candle to how sick we were through this STOOPID exercise. I SWORE to my DOC NEVER AGAIN and I like to say never say never.

The man who shares our sheep had a tripple heart bypass and he ended up with an infection in his wound and what should of been a operstion that he would be only in there for about seven to ten days, he ended up being an in patient for 2 months as it got infected in the wound and had to have numeous IV AB' to get rid of it and he remembers asking a nurse to change his dressing and it was male nurse who said, only twice a day, but he said, it is oozing puss, still they did not change it. In the end Elaine, his wife came up, looked at the dressing as it was saturated in green discharge and threw a real Hissy at the nurses and said, she was going to make a complaint, it got changed, but you could tell the nurse was p-----d as she was quite rough, the other male one had left at that time. He did not say whether the complaint was lodged, but he had all that time stuck there, he went home and it flared up again and he was back in there for another three weeks. He is good now. goes to the Gy, lost alot of weigh and feeling like a thirty year old, did the shearing ou alpacas and was pleasd as he said, it was going to be a challenge to him and he did the whole 40 in one day, that was easter. So they need to get there butts into gear as they are getting bad publicity. Alot of people do not like Palmy Hospital.

Gosh. Not good re Palm Hopsital...
That's kind of why I would have liked to have the prophy mx done privately.
Unfortunately only for the rich who can afford it
You take your chances in public with Drs & nurses etc
Hope you're having a good day.
I've done some more painting today- a real inside day as it was pouring & thunderstorms outside up here.
Take care,
kt
edited to add: altough having said that, I was very happy with my experience re Drs, nurses etc- it was the cleaners that let the side down- and the fact that there are never enough nurses (bare minimum) so they are rushed off their feet

kt I have to agree wiuth Annette ...PN is and has been for a while, getting a real bad name. I have just heard one story after another after another in the last few years. Now it's NOT all staff, of course, but my experience in the wards is that they are anything BUT rushed off their feet. Ive seen this too many times for it to be a one off. I think you would be MUCH better off in Auckland. It is true there are not enough nurses, but the rub is it is also true it has not made any difference to the speed some people work at. Just remembered, in one of my hosp stays, a couple of nurses were sitting on one of the office counters generally swinging and dangling their legs and laughing. etc. This is totally unacceptable. Hospitals used to be places where things were respectful, kept as quiet as possible, but now theyve become clamorous, noisy places where stress levels are worsened.
While Im at it I might as well have a moan about the latest thing on the agenda. PERISH the thought ....contract out all the food to what? 3 places in NZ.... it wont even be fit for pigs....and this is for people trying to get well. DoH. Rant over.

Have heard things about some of the hospitals. Must say on the whole can't complain about Auckland, both DH and I have had good treatment there. DD1 did have some problems when she had gallbladder troubles but they soon jumped to when I started - nothing like an enraged mother and one who knew the system. Sister did have problem with infection after bowel cancer op but they were great, not their fault just something that can happen. And KT DH had to be moved from private to Auckland after complications from heart surgery so it can happen anywhere. What I was unhappy about the private in that case was there were no doctors on duty during the night so when things went wrong the nurses had to race around and find someone who could sort it out. I have done the private thing for my mx and for the Fundoplication which they did for my hiatus hernia - fixed the hernia and tied the stomach down so it couldn't come back up into the chest cavity. (Annette this is why I can't understand why they won't do something about your troubles because I could have had the ops in the public) We had insurance so decided to go down that path.
Hope everyone has had a great day.

Just popped in and there are lots of posts, so apologies if I miss anyone.
Sorry Alyson to hear about your friend, I know that when I lost my friend last year it came as a real shock, especially as we were diagnosed at the same time. So my heart goes out to you and your friend.
KT it seems as if you have been painting heaps but also have been thinking alot about a profilatic MX. I am sorry to hear that your insurance wont come to the table on that. I can totally recommend the surgeon I had in the public system Mr Wayne Jones, although his registars are not as good (in my opinion).
Musical glad to see that you are still on the board. Sorry to hear that the LE has been flaring up. That must be really hard and so sorry to hear about your sister. That must have been devastating - cancer sucks big time.
Annette sorry to hear that you had such a c**p time at Palmy North. In a previous job I heard that there are some departments that are pretty poor. So sorry that you had to endure this. Glad you finally have a diagnosis of Diabetes I know that with a good diet this can be controlled. Lets hope your health begins to improve very soon.
KiwiKid glad to hear that your recon went well, hope that with all the rain your hair begins to grow as wildly as my garden which seems to be growing by the inch by the hour.
Apologies if I have missed anyone. I hope all of you have a fantastic Sunday either being treated to a fantastic Mothers Day or treating your Mom to a fantastic day. Big hugs to you all, stay well and away from the bugs with the winter germs just around the corner.

Hi Hils, haven't seen you for a while (mind you I only 'returned' to the boards last week!)
Hope everything is going well for you too. Actually I had Wayne Jones for my first mx. Unfortunately I have now moved & he's a different DHB to me now...
Alyson, good point about the complications.
Good news- I got my tumour marker test back from the surgeon. My Ca15-3 is now 38 ! down from 135 the last time (and the high of 387) Yay!
the drugs are obviously working, so I feel heaps better about that.
Funny, now I feel less urgent about a prophy mx- the drugs should protect me from recurrence there too- now if I could just quit the horrible mammograms....maybe a MRI every 2 years instead?
Anyhow, thats about it from me today- have a good weekend all.

Hi ladies
It's been a while since I popped in too. It's now 3 months since my tram recon and I'm doing really well. My scars look pretty horrific, but I'm feeling good!
KKid, I'm glad your MX and recon went well and you are on the path to healing.
Alyson, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Cancer certainly does suck! I lost a very young friend to BC while I was still having treatment and it really rocked me!
Hugs to you Muscial. I hope that LE gets under control.
KT - great news on your tumour markers!! It's always a relief to get good results.
It's a beautiful day here. I'm lying on the bed in the sun and feeling very relaxed. We're going to head out shortly to walk the dog. Got to make the most of the sunshine.
Happy Mothers Day for tomorrow.0 -
Hey all, its nice to see everyone dropping by and saying how youre doing.
Be back soon...hubbys doing the dishes so I better go and help.

Hi Hils Thx for you kind thoughts on my Siss. Yes it was devastating beyond words.
Hi Kiwimum, ..Im going throguh the joys of the steep learning curve of wrapping and other associated dramas of all that LE brings to the table, like measuring. UGGHH. I feel bad enough with all that hubby has to do already so I thought Id try measuring on my own. Well I must confess I had a MAJOR MELTDOWN. I got cranky with hubby because he was trying to help and wouldn't let him help, then I got angry with myself for getting cranky... then I got plain out determined and was prepared to sit up ALL NIGHT. RIDICULOUS FLIPPIN tape measure! It took me an HOUR to measure up grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Oh and I fully admit I cried too. Fortunately to save any semblance of sanity I had left, my wrapping didn't turn out so bad and my arm looked better.
Well looks like things have finally got cold enough down here for a fire. Yes our 1st fire today. Nice and cosy and warm.

Hi. What a beautiful day it has been today! I hope you all enjoyed mother's day.
We had a nice time chilling out & then visiting family.
Musical I feel for you with LE. It must be awful having to wrap. I hope the flare up settles down & you don't have to soon. Do you have times where its not there or do you have to wear sleeves etc all the time?
I've been wearing my sleeve while painting & pacing myself (only doing 1-2 hours/day) to help prevent mine & its worked, only a mild heaviness that I notice in bed. So I'll have a week off before I do the kitchen.
Kiwimum, good to see you. I'm glad your healing is going well. Have you tried the silicon strips for minimising the scars? I've noticed peopl talking about them on other threads & they sound good...
TTFN, kt

kt been a beauty day down here too. Theres a decided chill in the air now, and frosts won't be too far away.
It sounds like ytoure being very sensible about LE, and pacing yourself has got to be good. Also they say to put that sleeve on when youre doing stuff. Yes wrapping IS awful and hats off to any who can do it and measure (on their own). Here I am moaning about one arm. SOme have to do 2!!! UGGHH. Also theres the cost of all the bandages and so forth. One good thing, as Ive seen my wrapping improve with practise so has my arm improved. They say of all garments the gold standard for getting a flare under control is to wrap, and you definitely need to be taught by a qualified LEist.
Sometime last year LEist recommended I wear sleeves all day as I was getting issues with aching and a bit more swelling. To start with I had it fairly well under control and tried to be vigilant in doing the simple preventative things they say to do, like not doing enough, or doing too much. I do the MLD (Manual Lymph Drainage) procedure and I'm very careful about any scratch bite or burn etc. One very simple thing I keep forgetting is to do is a few basic exercises, which actually help with the aching and other pain.
I guess some of us are just more predisposed to gettting it than others. Heres hoping NONE of you ladies get it and if you do, that it is manageable. SOme poor ladies have to wrap every night. That must be truly AWFUL. They say if you catch LE early you can stop it getting really bad. There is much ongoing research into LE as many MANY professionals from BS's to GPs are absolutely CLUELESS about it. Theres horror stories right around the globe as to how this ignorance is everywhere including the US. I've heard many times of people not being told about it at all prior to BC treatments.
Hope everybodys had a great weekend. We've been really busy and got a lot done. Feels nice just to sit down and chill out.

Hi girls.
Just bumping it up for some new people who posted in the other kiwi thread.
Hope you've all had a good day. Had the vet out today to drench/vaccinate alpacas. Another lovely day, nice & warm.
Catch you later
kt0 -
kt can you give your alpacas a nice big hug from me ? lol, awww they are gorgeous.
Yesterday morning I had a double tooth out (OUCH) and he rocked and pushed and shoved for what seemed like about 5 minutes. When the anesthetic wore off OUCH OUCH!!! Painkillers were great. Fortunately I was still good to make myself useful and do some pooter jobs like change the battery on my brothers computer motherboard. This a.m. much better, but still feel like Ive been kicked in the face by a cow or something.
Hope everybody is keeping well.

Morning Musical, how's the jaw today. I feel for you.
Hio all hope you have a great day - intend to cut some patchwork squares this morning - just need 405 plus another 64!!
Big hugs.
0 -
Morning Alyson, WOW cutting all those squares! I hope you got a good pair of scissors and a strong wrist.
jaw OK but been a bit worried about a neighbouring tooth and hoping like crazy that isnt affected as well. THANKFULLY I think it's settled down. Everything a bit sore and tetchy, but Im holding off painkillers to see if it gets worse or better. Right nowit's do-able. Dentist took an xray and said the 2 neighbouring teeth had a bit of decay as well (UGGHHH) didn't want to hear that as at the very least it means another dentist appointment AND I HATE GOING TO THE DENTIST
I'm wondering how much, if anything, Arimidex has to do with this, cuz that affects the bones.
Looks like we have another nice fine and mild day here.

Hi Ladies
Very quiet here. Hopefully that means everyone is busy and enjoying life!
I'm just checking in. I'm great. My 3 month check up, post surgery, is next week. I have recovered well and very happy with the surgery.
Life is busy, with work and the children. All in all I can't complain.
I hope everyone is keeping warm around the country! It has certainly been cold in Auckland these past couple of days!

Hi KiwiMum
Yep, I think everyone is busy getting on with life...
Just a quick check-in before the news & cooking dinner.
Its great you're feeling good. I hope the appt goes well next week.
Everyone else, I hope you're all well....& that any LE has settled down now.
I have an appt in the public system for early August to discuss prophylactic mx- it will be interesting to see how that goes.
Keep warm,
kt

Hello girls.
Whoa, real weather change down here and fires been going for 2 days and nights pretty much non stop. Supposed to be warmer tonight though. Not grizzling here as we've been very fortunate to get plenty of rain and some warm weather to get the paddoclks back into growth before winter. Poor Taihape farmers are really copping it. drought barely over, about 20mls of rain = teeny tinge of green on the hills and now snow and ice. Really feel for them. Its so nice that other farmers from others areas are pitching in and helping knowing it could be them next year.
Kt well all the best for that appt and you get around 2 months to think things through, and process the necessary considerations and questions etc. It's a big decision.

Hi Girls, been quiet on here, i have not been on for awhile, had a cold, hubby still got his. but yea musical, we have been very cold, had gas fire going all day on low, keep the house warm, but i stay under the blankets, soon as the sun goes down.it starts to freeze, it feels warmer today. everybody unning late due to trucks trapped on dessert road, not ours, but the Auckland units that bring the freight for us to deliver. so has held the works up, they had a very light day wed and yesterday it was all on as the units all got in about 2 in arvo, and hamilton, which are the main ones. not much one can do about the weather, the powers to be still want it delivered in spite of it all. hubby said, na , it can wait, we are not over loading the trucks as if we caught, it is us that pays the penalty. alright for them. Bil tends to bow to the, ie the ones we contracted to, hubby says get stuffed, it comes off our wage and its not a small fine when it happens, we never have , but we know somebody who did and they got a grumpy cop anf if you get one of those they will find every excuse to do over the truck and fine the minimal thig wrong with it.. does not pay. Hope you ok, Musical, my fingers were too cold to type other day, glad to see you .
love to all

KT - good luck with your prophy appointment. Let us know how you get on. It's amazing to me that we can get turned down, both public and private, because it's seen as elective. I mean seriously, who wants a mx unecessarily?
Nice to hear from you too Midnight and Musical.
It's been a nice Queens Birthday weekend here! Wouldn't it be great to have a 3 day weekend every week!!0 -
Hi ladies,
Yes Ok thanks Midnight, other than still dealing with some flares with LE. It totally brassed me off a couple of weekends ago, as the sheep REALLY needed crutching... since we only have a few I generally do it with the scissors and its fine when they are "clean"... but with all the indian summer and late spurt of grass growth, their butts have gotten somewhat green so hubby had to help and do it because my arm became swollen. Grrrr . .... Oh yes you have to watch the plods. Get a particularly obnoxious one and they can make life VERY difficult. Especially with trucks.
Hi Kiwimum, LOL my hubby used to be 4 on 4 off for many years.... oh boy was that neat! Mind you it was 12hrs a day and you needed those 4 days off but man you could get stuff done, and it was like an 8 day week. You had lots of options for doing shopping instead of being stuck to the weekends or the lunch hour. We really miss that shift.
Weather hasn't been so cold this weekend, and has been quite nice...
0 -
our sheep need crutching too, and we were going to do them this weekend, but weather not too good, some of them need it badly. have a shearer with generator and he has yards and a couple of good dogs, trouble is we want them to go to works, alot of them and that only done during week. so they need to be loaded up into truck soon as possible as the shearer will want his yards. we are ment to get heavy rain today, i think we had enough for awhile, the darn ground is getting mushy. Yes, quite a mild weekend. well better go and do some stuff, i have mamo next tuesday and the the day before that, my first visit to the diabetic exersise class. will be an outlet for me, every two days for three months, you have somebody with you and its for type 2 diabetes and cancer, disabilties and stuff like that goverment funded, wellness clinic. Hope mamo is clear, as i would hate for me to have more BC and have to have surgery and then miss out going to this clinic. that would annoy me as i am looking forward to it, something for me, sounds selfish iknow, but i have no outlet for me, it is for others, the bussiness, the farm and looking after animals. so i do not feel like any hold ups. sorry for the me focus. i am not a selfish person, just now and again i feel like i need a break from the pain in the neck things that seem to come across. lol. Hope you all ok. sorry for painfu arms and limbs musical. being in pain all the time is very wearing down. love and hugs. xxxxxx

Hi all
Must be LE time Musical as I have had a bad arm the with an LE flare also my side has been really swollen. Thankfully it feels a bit better today.
Wet and cool here ar present though the sun tried to appear a few minutes ago.
Big hugs
0 -
Midnight Im sorry you have diabeties. Did you say you are type 11? Is that the one where you have to inject daily? My Dad had to injectx2 daily but I can't rmember what it was called. I hope it all goes well and you get things under control with what you have to do. There sure are some lifestyle changes one has to make. I hope your mammo goes well and all is well there. Yes we've had quite a patch of rain today, but it's supposed to clear Thurs and Fri. Might get a chance to get the sheep dpne then? I used to shear our own a long time ago, but not these days....and besides I'd dhudder to think what might happen from just a minimal sheep kick or something, let alone if a handpiece went flying. Never had that happen but Murphy's law....
Alyson, Oh Im sorry that youve been having issues with LE. It sounds like youve got truncal as well as arm? Have you ever tried to wrap? Man is that a drama and a half to learn that. Really tests your patience....especially if a bandage goes flying and you have to wind it up again. Once you get the hang of it it gets better but theres plenty of rants until you do lol.
Hope our kiwi contingent are keeping well.
0 -
Hi girls.
I hope the LE settles down soon Alyson & Musical.
Enjoy your exercise classes midnight. You deserve some time just for you.
How did your BS appt go KiwiMum? -hope all is well.
It was so nice to have a long weekend DH was home for 4 days! (usually just the weekend) & DD had an 18th b'day party.
Did you see RPA tonight? There was a 19 yr old girl who had bmx & recon due to DCIS, but it turned out she had IDC & cells in the lymph nodes as well....
So young
Keep warm
kt0 -
Hi kt, well that wouldve been nice to have hubby home for that time and certainly for your daughters bday. At 18 I would suppose you are looking at her and wondering where all the years went so quickly. Not sure what RPA is but such a young lass of 19yrs AND with lymph node involvement!...thats plain awful. Cancer is an epidemic and it seems nobodys exempt now....even little kids. It also seems everybody knows somebody who has or is dealing with this dreadful disease in some flavour of its insidious manifestation.
Hope you ladies up north arent getting drowned out with all this torrential rain.
