summer70 - I never lost eyebrows; lost lower lashes on left eye, but by the time I noticed the new stubs were already there.

Thanks for all the input. I was wondering, does the nausea and taste problems decrease with taxol? I had terrible nausea on AC for 4 days and felt queasy the rest of the entire two weeks after that. I also have no appetite at all because of the taste changes, . ..I have a very hard time eating. Does anyone who experienced this on AC have a more positive experience on taxol, in regards to appetite, taste and eating?

mercedes60-I chose double, BS recommended lumpectomy but I chose skin spearing nipple sparring double mastectomy.  I don't every want to go through this again. I also didn't want to try to match one side to the other so I'm starting with a clean slate so to speak.

What about you? Have you made a decision yet?

Debic - My taste buds went away on A/C and have not come back yet.  I just had Taxol #10.  Eating is generally unpleasant.  I'm so happy to be nearing the end of chemo.  I want my brain back and my taste buds, too.

question for those taking L glutamine. Are you taking it daily or for just so many days after a taxol treatment?

sandra3, i don't know yet, it was supposed to be a mastectimy before treatment, then oncology wanted me to start chemo first before surgery due to the fact one of my lymph nodes was positive, everything is on my right side. The tumors have reduced, quite a bit, i will need another mri to determine what surgery will be, i meet with my surgeon on mar. 11th. I don't know wtf! To do, i like you would like to get them off so to speak, don't want to go thru chemo again. Anyway, this will all be discussed at the appointment, i have a list of questions for him.  Glad u brought up the matching one side to the other, never thought of that. How crazy is this journey we"re on eh?

Yes eating is also unpleasant for me, the more taxol, the more chemo, my buds are somewhat normal day before treatment which is next wednesday.  Last one, last one. And yes  want my brain back, my body back also, i am one scary beatch right now. LOL.......

Have a good sunday, happy thoughts spring, summer and beach, with or without boobies.......

Debic  - I had no nausea at all. During A/C I took Emend on the first three days. That plus the anti-nausea stuff in the premeds did the job for me.  And no nausea on Taxol, either.  Very lucky.

crazywabbit, I took L-Glutamine 4 days a week - the day of treatment and 3 subsequent days.  That's what my chemo nurses told me to do.  If I had had any neuropathy symptoms after the 4 days, I would have continued to take it the rest of the week, but that never happened during chemo.

By the way, the info sheet on L-Glutamine that my chemo nurses gave me said that the stuff is really good for the digestive system.  I never had any taste issues during chemo and maybe the L-Glutamine helped in that regard.  Maybe we should do an informal survey here - anyone having taste issues taking L-Glutamine?

I had my 7th taxol on Friday, 5 more to go.  Question: did anyone have itching on the hands and bottom of feet? It's driving me nuts.

lonnie, i am sitting here in my recliner watching tv and my feet and hands are itching and burning, as a matter of fact even my face is itchy ughhhhhhhhh! So all normal with taxol, before i go to bed i lotion my feet and hands with aveeno, seems to help a bit. Taxol sure does a number on our skin.

I've started with neuropathy over the weekend.  Anyone taking Glutamine?  What does are your taking?  Capsule or power?

BigT16 - the dosage of Glutamine for chemo-related neuropathy is 30 grams per day.  That's a lot, and it's just not practical to take it in capsule form.  The capsules I found were 500 mg each, so I would have had to take 60 capsules every day!  Get the powder form, and do 15 grams in the morning and 15 grams in the evening.  15 grams is about a heaping tablespoon.  Mix it in a liquid of your choice.  It doesn't dissolve, it just sort of "suspends" in the liquid.

I am supposed to get taxol #6 tomorrow. Had bloodwork done and my counts are good. The nurse thought I was warm when she drew my blood and took my temperature. It was 99.6 she told me to keep an eye on my temperature. This morning I took my temp and it is 101. Does this mean I won't be getting taxol tomorrow? I am so upset. I already missed one taxol due to getting shingles. Does anyone get chemo while having fever? I do plan on taking my steroids meds as I am supposed to on the day before taxol. Will the steroids help with the fever?

Had a bone scan (first one since 2012) and CT chest/pelvis (second CT since beginning taxol).  The bone scan showed progression, which was not a surprise, because I had had 18 months before the start of taxol with no response to tx.  However, the CT scan showed liver mets continuing to get smaller, no new areas anywhere. They then compared the prior CT  bone mets to this CT and it was determined to be "stable."  So, all and all I'm satisfied the taxol continues to do its work.  I was offered a schedule of two weeks on, two weeks off, but decided to stay the course.  I want those liver buggers snuffed out before I change anything.

Now, new question.  I have a new side effect and it's believed to be from the taxol, but I'm thinking it may have been a reaction to the bone scan, although the doc says not.  I have bilateral edema (swelling) of the calves and ankles.  It came on within hours following my bone scan and continued the next day.  Today is day 3 and so far it looks much better, seems to be going away by itself.  I was given a diuretic and plan to take it if it doesn't go away by tomorrow.  I have never, ever had any kind of swelling anywhere, so this freaked me out.  Has anyone here had this experience either with taxol or following a bone scan?

    SyrMom

every week during my Taxol treatment my MO checked my ankles for edema. But I also had Herceptin infusion, which can effect the heart so I kinda figured it was because of that (circulation). But could be a Taxol SE, there are so many, effect us differently.

    Hope the diuretic works!

Vintagegal, yes, they have checked me too, but I didn't think anything of it.  I've not ever had this issue and I don't find it on the list of side effects, but who knows - that's what they tell me!

    Hi everyone -

I'm new here, having my 4th AC next Thursday, then on to Taxol after that. Just wondering if anyone here opted for dose dense Taxol? I was originally going to do 12 weekly treatments, but my onc said I could do dose dense with fewer sessions. I'm inclined to do this because I want to get all of this crap behind me a little faster but now I'm worried about worse side effects. Did anyone else have a choice?

    Mercedes60 - congratulations - you look great!

I am planning to take a tray of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. The staff always shares treats with patients.  I like that!
