hi ladies, taxol #8 down, no particular side effects yet, except for the first night after treatment i always wake up at 3 am and cannotgo back to sleep, its the decadron takes 2 days to leave system. I get decadron first then benedryl and yes sleepy in the recliner, iguess the deca or asi liketo call it giddyup and go kicks in after.

Liver enzymes normal to be high, i was told lots of counts would be off until i finish treatment.

Warrior i am practicing my happy dance for you when you finish! It willbe your own personal touchdown!

My hair is growing like crazy almost an inch I'll have to post. But i will have to do my brows and makeup, havesome blotches on my face now too. Lol, unbelieveable the transitions we go thru, but we keep going right

Thinking of you all, have a gun day. Go shopping!

I don't post very often but I read most all of your posts. I just finished Taxol #8 and have had virtually no SE. I do have 2 ffingernails that hurt sometimes just hoping they don't end up getting any worse. I do Zofran, Benadryl and Zantac IV premeds before Taxol. My MO stopped the steroid after #5 so I am happy about that! I wiish everyone minimal SE and must say Taxol is pretty easy to get through. Are any of you taking L Glutamine? I also take B complex, B6 and B12 supplements.

I am doing the glutamine and the vitamin supps.  I think they are having an effect: only today did I have any tingling in fingertips...and it is subtle.  My hands are kind of cold too so that might have something to do with it also.  And I am on Taxol #11...last one THURSDAY!!!!!!!!! WOOT WOOT!

hi all, just had taxol no 20. Apart from fatigue which is partly caused I think because I'm working 5 days at the moment I've had no bad SEs. I have lost a few toe nails but my finger nails are fine. I think because I keep them painted with a dark polish. It's summer here now and I my toe nails were fine until I pulled out my sandles so I do believe sunlight has something to do with it.

I started my chemo with weekly taxol first and after 12 weeks I will begin FEC regimen.

I had 3 taxol infusions until now and virtually no severe side effects (No Alopecia, No Nausea, No fatigue, blood count is fine, etc). I´m  living basically a normal life without restriction until now, working, eating, taking public transportation, etc except the day of infusion.

I hope to have 2 or 3 months to prepare myself to anthracyclines drugs (FEC), but I do not know if  this choice will cause harder side effects when FEC comes.

I noted that vast majority of people posting started chemotherapy with
anthracyclines like AC first. My MO said that the efficacy of the treatment
is basically the same with Taxol as first or last drug.

Is there anyone here started your chemo with weekly taxol before anthracyclines (FAC, FEC, AC, etc) ? Could tell about the negative points choosing this option ?

Just happened to find this site desperate to find out the reason for these aches and pains I've been having since my chemo stopped in Apr 2012.  Now realise that taxol is the villain. Have been through two mastectomies and two sets of chemo over the past 4 years. In 2010 had the first operation left side followed by six cycles of FEC.No permanent side effects.   In 2012 had a fresh primary on the right side followed by the second mastectomy. This time had endoxan and Docetaxol for chemo. COuldnt take more than 3 cycles as it affected my heart and lungs (constant high heart rate and some minor scarring in the lungs which caused a constant dry cough). Though it wasnt identified as the main cause, it was decided that the chemos would stop. Now that I know its a common side effect of taxol, perhaps can do the needful.

Completed #13 weekly taxol yesterday.  Has anyone experienced night sweats on weekly taxol?  At first I thought it was having too many covers on, but now think it may be night sweats.  Only time I ever had night sweats before was when I was on aromasin inhibitors.  Also, does anyone know if taxol has an effect on estrogen?  If it does, that would explain it.

robsp. I had 4 rounds of AC first and 12 weekly taxols, i am doing #9 tommorrow. My onco decided it wad the best way to reduce my tumors before surgery. Personnally taxol has minimal side effects compared to AC which is a very strong chemo cocktail, so be prepared or ask your team what to expect. I suppose everyone's treatment pkan may vary dependent on type of cancer etc.,  the good news we are here for you.....

syrmom, since taking taxol, my hot flashes are back, at nite during the day. Didn't have them on AC. The weird thing is my head gets really hot, so needless to say when i'm out shopping and they strike. I take ,my scarf, hat whatever off and go topless. Lol.  Lots of stares too,.....especially with the strange down fuzzi have

As i receive more taxoli find that my energy is weakening, more tired, my nails hurt but no lifting. I stillhave skin problems, eyes are itchy, nosebleeds, did i miss something, oh yes the urge to ho south. LOL

Take care the chemo end is approaching......

Thanks, Mercedes  ... I'm post menopausal, so the night sweats reminds me of that time!  They don't really bother me, but just have been concerning me because I wasn't sure if it was a side effect or not.  From what I'm reading on these boards, looks like it is.

So far I've been able to keep my nails in check by icing during the infusion and using dark nail polish and nail strengthener ... hope it continues.  I have the dry mouth, dry eyes (use artificial tears and it helps), dry skin (think it's caused more lines & I look older), achy joints, pain zingers through the muscles & legs, minimal neuropathy of fingers/toes but B6 and L Glutamine make a difference and fatigue is a BIG ONE!!  Tired, tired.  Oh, well, as long as I show a positive response I'll hang in there with it!

syrmom, i too am postmenopausal, i believe the cancer i have is hormone receptive and is common in women my age, i turned 60 last july and a couple of weeks later i was diagnosed with BC. Happy birthday to me.

I have a lot of the side effects you mentioned, and before all this i looked pretty good for my age, hardly any gray hair, little wrinkles, in shape, but now holy crap i look like an old man, especially when i don't have my brows on. lol.

Oh well we will get through this, did you have surgery yet? I will at the end of march. Don't know exActly what yet.

Mercedes, thanks for the response; yes, I had surgery in 2010; requested a double mastectomy, but the surgeon would only do a single because of my stage iv status.  Because of the possibility of losing insurance due to the job phasing out our dept and not guaranteed a transfer at the time, I opted to do what I could get at the time.  A year later I had the second breast removed.  I made sure the surgeon knew the crap she put me through was wrong and it should have been my decision from the start as it's my body and my choice.  What I went through emotionally in that year was far worse than anything physical.  So, bottom line, double mastectomy with reconstruction.  I had the reconstruction done at the time of the mastectomy so I was clear for any scans with no metal.  I should mention, before the surgery I had a second opinion because some say don't bother once stage iv; however, the ans. I got at the time was there was some studies indicating the advantage of removing the cancer from the primary site, not a cure, but an advantage.  So I went forward.  The reason I wanted the double was to avoid having to deal with a second and/or possible diff. cancer on the other side.  Have read that too many times here.

    Syrmom,

That is horrible. If I had not done both at one time I'd have never done the other. The pain was horrible. I had direct to implant after the BMX. Once is enough.

    hello ladies,

I had my 3rd taxol on Friday and now have shingles :(

I am on antivirals and won't have my taxol #4 this Friday as planned. I am stressed that now my treatment is off track, not to mention all the pain with shingles.

Did this happen to anyone else? How does this effect my outcome if my taxol is halted?  I hope I can resume taxol next week.

sept om, hang in there. I would imagine once the meds kick in your pain should subside, however, reme, ber it effects nerve endings so yes very psinful, poor you. Don't be depressed just another hurdle to get over . If you've survived AC you can do this.  Sending you hugs}}}}}}}Nerdy

I did taxol #9 yesterday and again i woke up at 2am and could not het back to sleep, i was hyped from the decadron they give me, i was jittery all day also, i neec to sleep tonite all the way. Usually i crash on day 3 from treatment. I also feel more tired in the last week and shortness of breathis back not as bad as when i was on AC, my oncologist warned me this would happen as the chemo starts to accumulate. Lovely.

Bigt 16, sorry did not have surgery yet so have not heard of anyone else having this problem

same here. I had #5 today. Wide awake. I actually went and did a zumba class.  I had restless leg syndrome for the prior 4 treatments so my doc lowered the Benadryl and I had no occurrence of it this time around which was great.

Good morning ladies, it has been awhile since I posted here, I am a weekly Taxotere they did switch me to Taxol thinking that the bone/joint pain would be better but after my 2nd Taxol I ended up the next day in the ER with chest pain and SOB and is was determined to be a reaction to the Taxol. Back on Taxotere now I have 4 more to go, I just feels so tired all the time and I was reading through the post's and it sounds like fatigue is alive and well. Hope everyone has a blessed day.

my last Taxol #12 is tomorrow & the fatigue & shortness of breath has definitely increased the last 3 treatments. But compared to A&C side effects aren't bad.

taxol no 21 today. Cycle 8 starts next week. No neuropathy just dead tired. I have blood work done every 2 weeks and the nurse today commented that they haven't changed once in all this time which is good. Off to work now. I've arranged to drop down to 4 days a week and will have Thursdays off which is my lowest day. Hoping this will improve my energy levels.

question for those taking B6 and glutamine supplements, did you start them before the taxol and if so how long before the first Rx.  I start taxol next week and my MO said I could take them , but he said it may or may not help.  Just glad to finish the cursed AC.

I started the B6 around the first infusion.  Just recently started the L glutamine after having mild symptoms - saw difference in a week.  Good luck!
