Crazywabbit, I didn't start taking the B6 and L-glutamine until I started having some mild tingling in my hands and feet.  It worked for me; however, I stopped too soon after finishing chemo and I ended up getting a numb big toe which lasted for a few months.  My chemo nurse told me to continue with the supplements for at least 3 weeks after finishing taxol, but I had run out of the glutamine so stopped too soon.

Crazywabbit - 30 grams per day is the recommended dose for this purpose.  I did 15 grams in the morning and 15 grams in the evening.  15 grams is about a heaping tablespoon.  You mix it in the liquid of your choice.  It doesn't really dissolve, so it's a bit gritty going down.  You can get a big tub of the powder at GNC.  You can also buy it in 30-gram packets - the brand is called Gluta-Solv.  My chemo nurses gave me a bunch of the packets to try, but when I looked to buy them I couldn't find them at the pharmacy and would have had to order them, either from the pharmacy (Walgreen's) or from Amazon.  The minimum quantity of packets seemed excessive (and expensive) so I went with the GNC brand.

I ordered a big jar from Amazon, I hope it will last  the whole treatment time and a few weeks after.

mercedes good luck on #10 today!

Last Taxol yesterday went ok, uneventful. I will still be there at the
cancer center in the chemo chair every 3 weeks for the rest of the
Herceptin. I started that in Nov, near my BD so will be ending it this
coming November. Might be on BD week (haven't counted ahead yet) but
    that will be a celebration!

NoWhyToIt - my WBCs were completely normal throughout my weekly Taxol.  My hemoglobin went down below normal immediately, and remained in the 9 to 9.5 range throughout.  I was told that this is typical - Taxol affects hemoglobin much more so than WBC.   However, I did not have AC first, but only Taxol.  If you had AC first there may be some residual effects on WBC.  Good luck to you!

Thank you! I did have AC first with WBC issues (bad ones). What are the effects of Hemoglobin issues so I am prepared. Tx!

all my lab work got better after I started Taxol. But then again I did A&C first &  had very low counts, was quite anemic & very very fatigued for several weeks. So happy that it all improved on Taxol. (last one was yesterday)

NoWhyToIt - my hemoglobin issues were basically shortness of breath and difficulty climbing stairs.  Not really "fatigued", more a lack of energy.  I could walk OK, and walked on the treadmill at the gym for 30 minutes or more (slowly) several times a week.  There were a few times I felt a bit faint and had to sit down.  On the whole, though, I was very pleasantly surprised at how well I felt all during Taxol treatment.

Hi all.  I thought I would send out a quick update.  Starting my first Taxol tomorrow and Im super nervous and anxious.  I was placed on Celexa and Ativan to help keep me calm.  Im planning on taking them regularly through this process so that I can get through it.  They have been helping It does make me feel a little bit better that so many of you are doing great through this.  My Mom has offered to take my kids this weekend so I can sleep and get my rest.  Im still going to try to work through Taxol but will just have to wait and see how it goes.  I will update later to let you all know how I feel.  Keep it up girls!!!!!

Weekly taxol is my first IV chemo ... I've had low WBC, RBC, hemoglobin and HCT, but not low enough to hold the tx.  The lowest my wbc has gone was 2.4; but because the next week was my "off" week, I was allowed the infusion (cut off is usually at 3.0).  However, recently, my labs seem to be getting better.  Don't know why, but I'm not complaining.

Drats.  My counts are still down this week.  Was able to have Taxol however now I have to come back the next three days for a shot to help boost counts.   I received Neulasta shot with the AC however was told I wouldn't need them with Taxol.  But the Hemoglobin is too low......will go after work back to clinic each day.  That makes four days a week not counting my other misc visits that end me up there.  So am averaging five days out of seven.  I think I should get a benefit or gold star, something for being their number one customer.  Bahahaha.....:)

Hey Vintage your have to celebrate the short-term goals along the way.  Give yourself some credit for getting through another small step on the way to cancer free.

Mercedes and Denise! You guys are making progress with the Taxol!  You are both so close to being done! Being done...no better feeling!  Nothing like eating salad, berries, green grapes after months of only cooked veggies and thick-skinned fruits/vegetables.  So many more choices at mealtime!

I'm late to the party with B6 and Glutamine...I have taken both since August, when I found out that I would have to have chemo.  I never had any neuropathy through the whole process.  I was making jewelry this afternoon and had no fine motor issues, anything.  I have used a LOT of glutamine...at least a heaping teaspoonful a day, mixed in greek yogurt or pomegranate juice.

As for blood cell counts...I did Neupogen from week 3 of Taxol onward, and my counts were fairly low throughout, but I wasn't delayed once from late November onward.  My main problem with Taxol, I think, was sleep issues from the Decadron.  So glad to not have to mess with that stuff anymore!

Had Taxol #9 today.  Still waiting for the Benedryl to wear off.  My brain is fuzzy AND my head is fuzzy.  The scalp fuzz is difficult to see because it is so miniscule and it is white, but it IS there.  Can't keep my hands off it.  Hope I don't wear it out.  MO worried about neuropathy, but I have only occasional mild tingling.  So far, so good.

I'm starting to notice a pattern with day 4; not only bone pain, but the mood goes right into the toilet.  Think it's the decadron leaving my system causing the crash, making everything seems overwhelming.  Anyone else notice this?

warrior, thanks, but i do not look this when i wake up, no makeup yikes, scary, lol, yes almost there, ummmmh what do i wear to my last infusion, this calls for a shopping trip.........

Syrmom, yes day 4 from infusion usually the crash. All normal with the moods too, i've been snappy with everyone lately. Winter blahs too maybe,  and for me day after i fusion i'm  wired like yesterday, vacummed laundry, cleaned, today my legs are heavy and i'm tired. Of course i don't sleep well after treatment either. Its all the accum of chemo in our system. As i like to call taxol treatments its the "giddy-up and woooo" giddy- up for decadron and crash.  Woooo.

Yes i keep rubbing that white/brn fuzz on my head too.   Weird

    Hang in there

Syrmom - it seems to be day 4 for me, too. 5 isn't much better.  I take an antidepressant (for30 years) so my mood deteriorates some but not too bad.  Really looking forward to getting off of this stuff.
