Babs - I am glad they caught the UTI. I had terrible symptoms starting Ibrance. Thought this drug would be tough ... turned out to be a UTI. And dehydration is very serious as well. We're very susceptible to these things, but they can be treated. Hope that's the cause.

Waiting with you for scan results. Glad you are home.

Babs, so glad to hear the pain wasn't mbc-related! Please indulge yourself with plenty of TLC this weekend.

I just had a surprise call from Carol. The good news is, she's finally home from the hospital. The not-so-good news is, her liver is struggling to the point that they have had to take her off chemo and she is only on pain meds, hoping her liver will recover. She asked me to convey her love and appreciation for all your PMs, most of which she was not able to read or respond to while she was in the hospital, but hopes to get caught up with now that she's home. In the meantime, she specifically wanted me to ask you... If anyone can share any hope or ideas with her about getting her liver to regenerate, she very much needs to hear both positive experiences, as well as any treatment ideas, and of course prayer. She's already doing milk thistle, as well as looking into second opinions, including MDAnderson. I have her address somewhere and I'm going to look for it if anyone wants to send her a card. Readings emails and texts have been difficult for her, I think, from what Lynne reported after seeing her, because moving around exacerbates her pain too much. She truly needs a miracle.

    Mom -

Scans at end of April were good, possibly improved since December. NEAD except for persistent mildly hyper-metabolic area in my sternum. Considering local treatment, but I can't get rid of this feeling that the thing isn't cancer. There is a type of arthritis that can cause inflammation that mimics cancer in a scan in that area. Contemplating biopsy. I don't want to treat something that is not cancer.

Also one of my cancer markers hit the highest it has been last week, raising concerns that the cancer is on the move despite the good scans. I have my doubts about that because you know what I think of TM's, but sure would like a straightforward clean scan and blood work.

Basically doing well. Running my questions past 3 doctors next week. Thanks for asking.

Zar this thing takes hold and it has to learn to let go. It's very hard when leaving with this to negate something is there, ,maybe. So sorry you have to have this anxiety, but if you got those 3 docs lined up let's hope they come up with something good. Was the trip successful?

Deanna thanks for conveying dear Carol's messages. Hopefully someone will have a good idea. Being home is nice. Where is the pain mainly, on the side of the liver traveling up? How is the food intake? if she won't mind, yes, I would love to send her a card, oh I miss her so!!

Babs hopefully tomorrow's sunshine will bring you a fresh start.

Louis, don't feel pressured, but I can't stop thinking of what's going on with you guys. Hope for a peaceful evening.

Can bone mets cause such severe pain that you can hardly breath and almost pass out from the pain?? My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 March 30. We have been waiting for a second opinion so we had not started treatment yet. Today my mom was in so much pain that she went to the ER by ambulance. We were thinking broken rib or spine. She was in so much pain. After getting a CT scan they found nothing. No blood clot ( they thought that was what it was) no broken bones. She has several bone tumors and they have gotten bigger since her last CT scan the end of march. But she wasn't having any pain until about two weeks ago. It showed up in her back and This morning it was in her chest and back and she could hardley breath. She's not one to take pain medicine because it makes her sick. So right now she is feeling less pain but nauseous. How could this change happen so fast? Any suggestions for relief for her? I pray the ibrance and letrizole will shrink the tumors and give her relief. She almost passed out twice from the pain. And laying flat is like a ton of bricks on her chest. How can this be from bone mets

Jennmadd it's hard to just give you a quick advice in a moment, and with not much History. But make sure they check out she is not having a heart attack or had one. Women are often misdiagnosed, Just some of the symptoms are on target for this, back pain, feeling of ton of bricks on her chest? nausea? make sure they are looking at the CPK (enzymes could be elevated if it's something with the heart) they should not overlook it, maybe they could to an echo of the heart, this is just my opinion sitting in my home. And besides everything is possible. Speak to an attending, not just the resident. Make sure your doctors know what's going on. Don't let them just send you home.

dlb...I heard that beets help the liver heal. I don't care for straight beet juice, but I'll eat roasted beets with a little olive oil (orange and yellow beets don't taste as strong if one doesn't care for the taste).

They're also nice in a salad. There's also that borscht beet soup.

When my alt's were elevated, beets helped me.

    JennMadd, I agree with MomATT.

Being short of breath and nauseous sounds, along with the chest pain, like a possible cardiac event to me. Get it checked out to be safe.

Jenn, I agree 100% with MomATT & Lita. What you're describing does not sound like pain from bone mets, but has several hallmarks of a classic cardiac event. Did they check her out for that when she went to the ER? Also... on the pain meds... Don't assume all of them will make her sick just because some have in the past. Get her an appointment with a palliative care doc (palliative used in this broader context means comfort, not end-of-life). A good one should be able to come up with pain meds that do not make her sick. We're all different when it comes to how we react to them, and a palliative care doc can find one that agrees with her. But get her heart checked out first.

Lita, great idea on the beets! I'm going to relay that to Carol right away, hoping she or someone will read an email. Thanks.

    momallthetime and lita,

They did an EKG and her heart looked good. Blood work was good also. She could have stayed overnight to do more tests on her heart but opted not to cause he said insurance probably wouldn't cover it cause it would be exploratory? I think that was the word he used. She does have an irregular heartbeat and did just one chemo treatment before finding out it spread. Then all treatment stopped. She also has numerous nodules in her lungs. Has your pain from mets ever hurt so bad you thought you had a broken bone? Thank s for your your responses

Jenn, I was going to suggest a possible fracture, the pain from which can be excruciating, but it sounded like your Mom's pain has eased up since yesterday, which I'm not sure the pain from a fracture would, unless she's not moving around at all. Also, a fracture may not show up on a CT as well as it can on an MRI, so that might be the next test insist on if they can't find another reason for her pain.

My counts on Ibrance are low, but not so low as to stop treatment. I will continue on I25mg. Saw this downtown today and wanted to share it with all of you. The artist strung these umbrellas up on wires down the street just to make people smile. Hope these give you all a smile as well.

Being home is great. But I still have the pain and am now on oxycodon. Probably won't get scan results until Monday

Had a great dinner with DD and SIL. He's so sweet. He wanted to walk me home but I would by it so he called to check on me. Love him!

Babs - I am thinking of you. I hope the scan results show nothing, but then we still don't know what the pain is from. Do you have any ideas?

    Dlb,

The pain has gotten worse not better. It started as some pain in her back a couple weeks ago and a couple days ago it started in her chest as well. During the night it became almost unbearable and this morning she was in pretty bad shape from the pain. They gave her pain meds in a drip at the hospital that kept her comfortable. I wish we would have gotten an X-ray to check for fractures. I thought the CT scan would show something if it were a fracture. She is home now and taking pain meds and not moving around much at all. If she is still not able to move around by Monday I think we should check again for a fracture. If the pain is being caused by progression then we will look into palliative care doctor. My mom was pretty active and healthy before diagnosis in feb. On the CT it showed that at least one of her lesions grew by 2 mm. Enough to cause this much pain? Who knows. I definitely think we need to keep looking for answers after hearing from all of you. Thank you all so much. This is all new to us and we have no idea what we are doing. My mom has been strong throughout this whole diagnosis and seeing her today in so much pain was hard. I just want to make it all go away. She will take her first treatment pills in the morning. Hoping for no immediate side effects. Thank you all again for your support and knowledge. God bless you

For carol~. Is there no way they can use ablation? To attack the biggest liver mets that are causing the most difficulties?! It's so annoying all the things that are available that they either don't try or won't! I had a liver resection and it was a miracle to me. We all must have our miracles. Prayers being strongly sent for Carol. ~M~

Since I have had this new progression with the bone mets and now liver mets, one of my sisters little guys stays by my side at work and watches over me. I'm not sure if he knows I'm sick, but it is he cutest thing. He is cute, a little over weight basset hound, so I put him in a bed of blue pansies to make him feel like a king. I keep my mind off of all my problems by watering in the greenhouses and walking 7 acres everyday. Here are a few of the baskets I start in February to sell in May. Enjoy your weekend and if you live in the north east, pray for this weather to break. We certainly need some sunshine and warm weather.

Have a great weekend!! Anita "aka" Photogirl

Jennmadd - I know this is going to sound weird, but is the pain worse at night? Is it worse when she lasts down? Does she still have her gallbladder? The first thing I thought of with these symptoms. They mimic heat attack symptoms. I was rushed to Er twice before they realized what it was. The pain is horrible and it hurts to breathe. Try Gaviscon. And lying in a recliner instead of bed see if that brings her any relief.

    Babs - prayers for you

    Patty - yay! On twnhm.

Prayers for all of you! Love all things pics! Have bad colitis after rads . Met mo yesterday, g ping to be awhile till better.

Thank you LindaE54. Sometimes just watering in the greenhouses and taking in the beauty keeps my mind distracted. Playing with my pets too.

Prayers for all of you who are not feeling so good today. Try to enjoy the weekend and the beauty all around us!!

Wow been away for a bit and I can't believe how busy this thread is.

Babs I'm so glad you got everything sorted. I'm also dealing with the "alone factor" my husband is working right now in Southern Oregon and from Vancouver that's a seven hour drive. The stress of being separated is starting to get to both of us. Since this whole liver thing started Andreas has been very stressed . My children are grown and living their lives so I don't want them upset either. Andreas and I were supposed to go next week to Germany together to visit his family Andy friends. My trip was cancelled by my onc so Andreas is going to wish his mother happy 80th and I will remain behind with my chemo. He is petrified something will happen in that week and a half. So we spend our time cheering them up and telling them we will be fine.

Micmel I'm hoping your scans are amazing , crossing all my fingers and toes😊.

So my oncologist called me in for a blood test and then she called to,give results. Looks like the Taxol is working. My liver values were four times normal in March and now are almost back to normal. Some days I'm almost up to my old energy level. I guess I was pretty close to cashing it in first week of April. So that's one of nine I guess.

Wishing everyone a restful pain free weekend I really think we all deserve it.

Wendy - I am glad you got good bloodwork. I am quite sure the taxol is working. Nasty s@#t but it generally works. Hopefully resensitizing any remaining cancer to hormone suppression so you'll be ready for CDK 4/6 inhibitors when they become available.

    Hugs to everyone ...
