STOP THE PRESSES NEWS FLASH: 9:44pm EST---8:44pm Colorado time(?)
Our dear fearless leader Chevy has a broken left hip. She crossed the road to avoid ice, she stated in the interview and this rock got under left foot. She turned her ankle and fell. This was early today 2/13/14. She's been in the hospital all day. She's on Morphine, but she has her wits about her. Her humor intact. Doesn't sound loopy at all. Her DD is at her side, as is DH.
Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow at 2 pm, 2/14/14. ORIF --Open reduction internal fixation(long rod and screws). She expects to be in the hospital for two days after surgery. Rehab in hospital for two days after surgery. May go to rehab facility. That will be decided later for sure.
She can't post here because the hospital keyboard is too complicated (shut-up Cami).
She wasn't happy that this stupid injury interfered with her planned casino trip.
She asks that Cami do the AM post reviews in the morning on each of her threads.(Thanks Cami).
Thinking of everyone and sends XOXO's
Will keep you updated---sassy

Chevy- so sorry to hear this. I hope you are resting comfortably and get good care in the hospital. I hope you are home soon too, you will recover quickly there!

Oh Chevy doesn't really come on this thread--she's no hermit that's for sure--I feel so bad I wish I lived by her I'd stay with her in the hospital at nite, it's always nice to have someone there for little things, That's the problem we all live away from each other and can't really get to each other if we need it. I know her family's there but given a break at nite is good for them. I'm sure it hurts more now that it's set in but talking to her she sounded like nothing was wrong. She's a trooper. I feel so bad. I will not write this on an thread she reads hahaha, or I'm in trrrrooubull.

Hi hermits- yes Chevy is on the Insomniacs thread, which many of us are also on. Broken hip is no little thing. Big set back for her, but hopefully she will heal and get better.
Off to the breast surgeon this afternoon to begin my 6 month follow up.
Happy Valentines Day to all here. May you have a day full of love and nice surprises!

11:am EST:Hello, update on Chevy. Surgery is still on at 2 pm. Sounds very good. She's thinking more in the direction of going to a rehab faciltity. It's a hairline fracture on the outer aspect of the hip, the ball joint is not affected. This is very good. It will make her recovery easier. The ball joint carries the weight.
She did get herself up and out of bed to use the bathroom by pushing a chair last night. The staff went into a tissy. They put a catheter in after that and explained about the call light.
Sends love to all. Told her she will reading for days. I'm supposed to call around 6 pm Colorado time. Okay someone tell me what time that is EST----8 pm? Sassy

Sassy...that would be 6:00 pm est.

Sas- 6 p.m. Mountain is 8 p.m. EST. Give her our love. The break on the outside not as bad as the femur/hip socket break. My mother had that. They pinned it, then later replaced it.
Went to see the breast surgeon today. Exam of the girls went well, but a different discussion came up. She wants to run more genetic testing on me, and we are running a comprehensive panel via GeneDX? Anyone had this? I know some of you have a much stronger history of cancer in the family than I do.
I already had the BRACA 1 & 2 because my sister and I were both diagnosed at the same time. I had one uncle on my fathers side of the family with prostate cancer (we reoccurred and took his life) along with my sisters bc. So between the bilateral bc, and that, she recommended we do this to see if there are any other concerns. She says that this is a newer test since I had my last genetic tests that gives people an idea of risks for other types of cancers including pancreatic, colon and melanoma.
I told them I want to be sure my insurance is going to cover it. Although both the BRACA and Oncotype tests were initial approved by my insurance, I had to work/fight through the the labs to appeal multiple times to insurance to pay for those tests (which they finally did!)
Should hear more on this in a month. Would love to know anyone else's experience with this?

Jazzy I don' know anything about this test--I had the Braca 1and 2 but it was strange, I remember cuz she said this test isn't as thorough as they think, but in a couple of yrs. they'll be something different which will tell a lot more. So that's all I got out of it. Good luck with this one and u have to tell us exactly what it does,

My daughter's MIL has breast cancer, got it at 53..still alive.....her brother died from Pancreatic cancer, and her mother......
My grandson has scoliosis, so they checked my grandaughter........at that time they also asked for pages of information........when they saw the medical family history they told my daughter that they wanted me, and her MIL to be tested for the Braca 1, and 2.......even though I had no history on my side.......it was for my GD's benefit..........they are doing genetic testing and studies at my BC Center, so I may talk to them.............

Hi hermits- this has been one kind of a crazy week and ready to get into a new one. Couple good/interesting things from the week to share though!
We finished the short story class on Tuesday, and I presented and read my final short story on The Red Canary in the Coal Mine. I think I told you my writing partner turned out to have family from PA, and his grandfather was also a coal miner! A native american woman in our class came up after my reading and said "would you e-mail me your story, my grandfather still works in the coal mines and would love to read it." Now how about that, what is the likihood that there would be three people in one small class that would have that kind of shared history? Pretty cool. Our instructor takes our short stories at the end of the class, reviews them, and mails them back to us with private feedback. Those came yesterday and the comments were good. I had taken this class before but my short story was more of an essay, and our instructor said I needed to take my family stories and turn them into a real story. He said I have made this transition into short story writing with this story, so I am on my way. Our class is going to form a writers group too!
Second thing to share with you was about the memorial dinner last night for my friends mom. Of all the passings this week, this is the one that went deep, as I am friends with the entire family and knew there mom well. She was always part of anything I did with my friend, and everyone loved her. The women that hosted it had the most lovely home and there was great food, wine, and conversation. We all shared stories about the mom, and it turns out, the honoree had a boyfriend 18 years her junior at one point before I knew her. A woman after my own heart!
Today it is going to be 70 degrees again (I know, be quiet Jazzy) and my friend with the big St Bernard and I are going for a walk/hike this afternoon.

duckyb1, like Lily I don't know what to say. Of course, I wish you many, many more healthy years. Your quote is very true and is making me think which is good. It sounds like you are able to forget your dx since your kids reminded you of the date. That is encouraging to me.
